Loopy Good luck today my lovely, thinking of you Smile

clickingtock · 05/09/2012 08:12

Loopy - really hope that all goes well for you and you get your VBAC. That would be so fantastic.

Fluff - I hope Bartlett might help with the medical side of things because I really don't know about thyroid/pregnancy combo. But I still feel like 'booking you in' for induction is not morale boosting at this stage. Your pregnancy seems to be going well apart from hip troubles etc and they can check the baby with regular scans rather than induce you early. Everything I've heard about induction sounds really tough and if the baby is not distressed and you are still not 2 weeks overdue I don't really understand why it is absolutely necessary. You could ask for second opinions?

I also recommend you start taking red raspberry leaf tablets - better than the tea. This way you might get to go into labour before they get to induce you on your due date. Of course, it's worth asking a doctor about taking this herb if you are on Thyroxine. RRLeaf was recommended to me by a midwife so it's not just one of my hippy things. Smile

Love to all you others.

x

Ooohhooh how exciting Loopy! Hope everything goes well for you! X

Princesslovelyboo · 05/09/2012 08:23

Thinking of you loop

Fluff I also have an under active thyroid, and when I was pg with DS they never mentioned a sweep or making sure he was delivered early, they seemed happy just to let him stay where he was until he was ready. Though saying that, my gp didn't even know she had to increase my drug's until I told her last week Hmm I do know that appointments are made as standard for 1-2 weeks past due date in my hospital.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 05/09/2012 08:41

It was a bit demoralising tock and they're not even bothered enough to do extra scans, so I'm not sure what the rush is. I got the impression the +10 was standard though, in case the ward is full and it gets postponed a day or two iyswim? I'd be more than happy to wait til I'm 40w for a sweep and I'd much rather try RLT/sex/curries

Thanks for the reassurance boo, biscuits and little - I think I was just a bit Shock more than anything! Don't say that cakes Shock :o

boo my GP didn't know much about my thyroid condition in pregnancy either - well done for getting her to increase your thyroxine :)

Loopy!! Good luck today!

loopy good luck today, I'm so excited for you SmileSmile

RubberBullets · 05/09/2012 09:39

Inductions are usually done at 40+10, booking it in now gives the hospital an idea how many people they are likely to have I guess but that is totally normal and nothing to do with you personally.

I had 4 sweeps in total, the first one was at 39 weeks

Raspberry leaf doesn't help start labour, it simply makes the second stage easier.

Good luck today Loopy we are looking forward to you joining us in post grad

clickingtock · 05/09/2012 10:15

Nothing helps start the labour, apparently Rubber; quite often sweeps and even sometimes first attempts at induction are pretty futile. RLT tones the uterus and if you carry on taking it then helps in the first weeks beyond labour to return the uterus to good non-pg conditions. But all these things seem poorly researched. Acupuncture and reflexology are supposed to be a great help in preparing for labour and they say they can bring on the birth but I'm not entirely convinced. I was having regular acupuncture at the end of my 1st pregnancy but DS was still 9 days late by my cycle and 14 days late by their scan date. I didn't have any pressure from anyone to be induced because I was with an independent midwife and had v little to do with the NHS (and their targets and traffic problems in hospital). I made a choice to wait but we were getting close to considering a sweep or scan.

Inductions start from 40+10 in a low risk pg. They can easily be delayed beyond this point, especially if you insist, and the baby can be checked with scans. This is to ensure that there's enough amniotic fluid to support the last days of the pregnancy.

Fluff - have they explained this recommendation as linked to your thyroid condition or is this how they treat all pgs where you are?

Can't wait to hear about the baby Loops - pics please.

farfallarocks · 05/09/2012 11:14

Hello brookers, lots going on here!
Good luck loopy, thinking of you today!
bartlett good luck with the scan, you are getting there and ticking off the days!
fluff that does sound very odd indeed, I doubt a sweep at 38 weeks would do anything at all, not sure they would even be able to get up there if you weren't ready! Induction is something I am thinking about a lot, especially as I KNOW when we conceived and their due date is 4 days out so I might be pushed for induction earlier. Its a shame they don't offer scans etc to check what is going on in there, our hospital has a 50% cs rate for inductions, some of those babies are surely just not ready to come out but equally, then you worry about still birth. Gah, such a minefield.
I would definitely ask the midwife why 38/39 weeks was being mentioned.
I also have friends that swear by acupuncture to get things going.
boo I found liquorice really helped with the sickness as well, got through bags of the stuff!

Can I have a mini rant, just got my physio referral though for over a month's time. Referral made at 29 weeks and first appointment would be 3 weeks before the baby is due, hopeless. So I am going to shell out to be seen privately but I think its awful to make pregnant women wait so long, my back and pelvis are killing me, ther eis no way I can hang on another 4 weeks to get some tips!

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 05/09/2012 12:16

tock the induction date is for all pregnant women, I think - I think she just booked me in because I was sitting there iyswim?? Don't think it would have been done yet if I were midwife-led. I'm not sure about the sweep, but they don't seem too concerned about my thyroid (it is well controlled and I was actually discharged from the consultant). I'm pretty big though, maybe she just thought I'd like baby out sooner rather than later? I know a lot of women would love a 38w sweep... Blush

far my DD is out by 3 days as well - I know it can't be their date because we'd not dtd for about 10 days or so at that point Blush by my dates I should be due 9th of Oct not 6th. I'm just not thinking about it, as there's nothing I can do about it!

That's awful about your physio referral! I was referred at 30 weeks and seen by 33. It didn't revolutionise my life but I'd recommend seeing one if you can afford it; the most useful bit for me was correcting my posture tbh, which has made a big difference when I remember to do it.

musicalmrs · 05/09/2012 13:42

Loopy, I hope you're having lovely newborn snuggles! How exciting, a new brooking baby, yay!

Fluffy, I was booked in for an induction date at my 12 week scan. That's how they work around here. I found it incredibly depressing - especially as I went further past my due date and it loomed ever closer :(

Far, that's rubbish about your physio referral. Going private makes sense, but it's ridiculous that you should have to shell out so much money :(

scarletfingernail · 05/09/2012 14:14

Just wanted to say I'm brooking for Loopy and looking forward to hearing about DS2's arrival.

No morning sickness whatsoever here for either pg and I have 1 DS and 1 DD. In fact both of my pregnancies were pretty much identical with all symptoms hence me being shocked for about 3 weeks after DD's arrival that she wasn't a DS2.

whimsicalname · 05/09/2012 14:39

Howdy y'all (just practising). I packed my boys off to school on a yellow bus today! poor DS3 has added 'where my brothers?' to his endless liturgy of 'where my daddy'.

Good luck to loopy.

Today's horror at Americans is not only do they dub Bob the Builder into American, but what are clearly hedgehogs are being persistently referred to as porcupines. Dear oh dear.

Hope you won't come to induction fluff. I've always had the baby the day before I'm due to be induced. I think it's psychological.

Hello everyone else. Hope all is well.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 05/09/2012 15:40

Shock they dub Bob the Builder? Shock Shock Shock

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2012 16:06

How else would they possibly understand it Fluff? Subtitles? HmmWink

It's not even as if BTB has a strong accent or anything. It's hardly Rab C Nesbit, or Trainspotting is it!

scarletfingernail · 05/09/2012 16:32

Grin at the dubbing of Bob. I'm going to have to go back through this thread now to find out the previous horrors.

clickingtock · 05/09/2012 21:14

Tho we do subtitle Big fat Gypsy wedding etc. I wish someone would subtitle CBeebies Waybuloo - and use real English words instead of the pile of crap that they insist on the characters using.

Sorry. I seem to be rather angry these last few weeks. Can I put it down to hormones or just being a pain in the arse? I have so much lovely stuff going on; I really should just be extremely happy. Must be hormones, eh?

Fluff - I second Whims - just don't plan to get to your induction date and you'll be fine.

Far - how useless for you. Hope there's something that can be done privately but v annoying for you.

xxx

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2012 21:18

I don't get that either tock re Waybuloo - why do they have to say plomato instead of tomato? And yogo instead of yoga?

Mind you I always hated the teletubbies with all that 'eh oh' crap Hmm

scarletfingernail · 05/09/2012 22:02

I was so relieved the other day when DS said he didn't like Waybuloo anymore because it's boring Grin. Did either of you see that one off episode that was narrated by Dave Lamb from Come Dine With Me? It was surreal, I was like this Confused all the way through. I hate the fact that it's really badly dubbed but apparently that's because all the children on it have really heavy Glaswegian accents.

Biscuitsandtea · 05/09/2012 22:07

Oh yes I saw that Dave Lamb one.I actually watched it in the iplayer because I was so intrigued by it. It was truly one of the oddest things I've ever seen on CBeebies. And that's saying something! Thankfully ds1 also seems to have gone off it a bit these days.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 06/09/2012 10:01

tock DH's eyes lit up when I told him the antenatal teacher had said that semen has the same chemical in it that the induction pessaries are made of :o Blush I'm definitely not planning on making it to induction

I

Biscuitsandtea · 06/09/2012 10:23

I love DL on CDWM - total genius! Didn't fully translate to Waybuloo though as he had the same sarcastic tone / comment style. V odd Confused

farfallarocks · 06/09/2012 11:49

I think the curry and sex induction theory was invented by a MAN!

Any news from loop?

fluff I can;t believe you only have a month to go, wow!
whim bob the builder with dubbing, blimey, I have now heard everything.
tock hope you are feeling a bit better, its normal to have mood swings and feel a bit down in pregnancy, I get it too and then feel horribly guilty and remind myself how lucky I am and how much i waited and wanted this. Sometimes, its just a case of letting it pass and I feel better in the morning usually!

I have physio booked for Monday (privately), no one has called me back ffrom the hospital, I think I might complain, more for the sake of other women who don;t have the option of being seen privately.
My friend who is having a baby at the other local hossie was seen in a week, there should be some sort of fast track for preggos!I must say, I can see the effects of these cuts starting, they are stopping post natal visits if you are fit and well and ask you to come to the hospital (with a one day old baby!), tours of the hospital have been cancelled due to staff shortages and until further notice (not a bigie I suppose) and then there is all this talk of limiting epidurals. Eeek.

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 06/09/2012 12:13

Oh if Bartlet is lurking, I was told yesterday that our hospital only offers pethidine, not the other one she suggested that I can't remember the name of and tbh the NHS midwife didn't say anything that would change my mind about trying to go without it, it sounded thoroughly horrid Shock :(

Omg, it's a month today far I hadn't realised Shock (I think I'm still Shock that I'm 'full term' in a week and a half... Shock Shock Shock ). Yes do complain, that's pretty poor service. Our hospital doesn't do tours either - apparently they stopped them when Swine Flu was doing the rounds and found it was better for the very tired news mothers, so they have a YouTube tour instead which I thought was quite innovative :o

I had a google, and for some reason this totally isn't how I pictured Dave Lamb looking!

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 06/09/2012 12:26

Gosh me either for Dave lamb. I was thinking dark hair, full beard Hmm
