justine please don't keep schtum! I just tried to buy Spatone in boots and when I told the chemist I had been prescribed ferrous too she freaked out like I was trying to buy crack cocaine!!
X

woopsidaisy · 03/08/2012 07:27

justine09x, keep posting!
And WelshLadyCDF that made me laugh-they do indeed act like you are trying to buy crack over the simplest of things sometimes!Grin

Think I will ask about the Spatone justine, as I was prescribed Galfer a month or so ago, but never took it, due to yukky side effects.

capecath · 03/08/2012 08:27

Thanks for the recommendation, justine. I've actually been enjoying Spatone for about a month now, but hb even after taking this was still 10.0. Realise not that low (needs to be 10.5 for our birthing centre) like yours ishop but guess would have expected higher given supplements.... So just checked and I have ferrous sulphate 200mg 3 times daily (??) so hopefully stronger supplement will get me up there, even if have to suffer the side effects!!!

susie hah, yes true, we have come a long way. My mom was forced to stop work when 6 months pregnant (in South Africa)!!

fairtradelu · 03/08/2012 08:35

Congratulations ham!

rumours, I'm pretty sure the midwife told me the difference between BH and contractions is that BH aren't painful so I'd say if yours are painful they are the real thing. Having said that, I am the very opposite of an expert so maybe our thread midwife can confirm!

On a personal note, I found out yesterday that my Group B Strep swab was clear so I can have a normal labour (if baby complies!) and don't need a drip!!! I am sooooo happy. I was stressing out more at the thought of having a cannula put in than giving birth itself. Yes I am a wuss, but I just want it to be as natural as possible. So, yay, despite feeling bloody uncomfortable in every other respect, I am over the moon!

36+3

geekette · 03/08/2012 09:53

My BH always hurt. I only know they are BH because they are not particularly wave like and go away after an hour or less... that said they do have to strap me onto a monitor to be sure...

Still having trouble charging my devices but actually doing OK entertainment wise.

Whiteangel · 03/08/2012 09:55

Don't mention the moon! Was hoping she would do something to encourage this little one to come out but she just sat there looking pretty! Did wake up in the night needing the loo and bump was hard and painful. Felt dizzy and sick. Went back to sleep and woke up a couple of hours later feeling completely normal. Grrr! Very sunny this morning. Nursery and our bedroom 25 degrees so trying out the thermal blind to see if it has any impact at all. Oh I unpacked, repacked and zipped up my hospital bags before bed last night and took DH on another tour of the nursery. We are as ready as we will ever be. Come on baby! 40+1!

MrGeresHamster · 03/08/2012 09:57

(changed my name... I'm the poster formally known as WestCountry)

Geekette, are you still in hospital? Are you there now till due date? How are you doing?

My BH's kind of hurt, not like I imagine proper contractions do, but it does take my breathe away and it feels like a strong pull.

Full moon did nothing, grrrr.

Lovemarmite · 03/08/2012 10:05

Morning, hope the sun is out where you are Smile

rumours I was having strong BHs, back pain and felt really woosy like odd in the head when my home mw came round on Tuesday and she said these were early signs. I was getting pains in the pelvis too and what seemed to be period type pains and they seemed to come and go, thicker discharge and breathless. Now Friday and they seem to have come and gone like a few false alarms every day. Strangely though I keep getting these odd waves of flushing which seem to come from the uterus to my face and makes me look very warm but maybe it's a hormone?
I feel as though I'm back on the waiting list again and my body is just preparing. I know that when LO was conceived I was really flushed, no sleep and I just knew I was pregnant and so now wonder if I am super-sensitive and am feeling every little change in hormones, body etc which is making me wonder all the time 'is this it?!' but I would rather my body would just get on and do it !!!
Let us know how you get on!

On the spatone discussion - I know that I should be on the doctor's tablets but naughty me stopped taking them a few weeks ago as I got constipated badly and after a bit of a period of taking nothing, have now gone a little mad and bought spatone and taking two sachets per day, an iron supplement from neals yard that's meant to not constipate and is meant to get into the system better but is only 20 mg and there's another natural supplement in reserve. Feeling a little naughty as I think I might be low in iron but trying in vain to up my levels! Oops!

Lovemarmite · 03/08/2012 10:10

Ah hello MrGeresHamster formerly Westcountry, like your name! Making my imagination run wild now though!

Grrr to the full moon, I was hoping for a little wave of 'this is it' but alas, nada too!

justine09x · 03/08/2012 10:39

Lol I was very hormonal last night u couldn't tell could u ? Lol

Spatone is fabulous, but I might go back to the ferrous sulphate give myself the same effect as castor oil or a curry and go into labour?? I doubt it will work :)

All these pains and symptoms sound good ladies cone on get these babies out please!! I'm end of August so I'm back of the que and I need to pass the time by reading lots of lovely birth stories so come on team August get to pushing!

Vinolover · 03/08/2012 10:45

The full moon made no difference to me too. Back to the ball bouncing, nipple tweaking and you know what Wink. My dh is going to have to pull out the stops now seeing as we've both had a cold and let it slip some what.

A warning about RLT... You need to drink the loose tea and not from the tea bags as according to my midwife, they won't work! I didn't think they were having any effect on my braxton hicks!

All sounds very promising Rumours :) Keep us informed.

MrGeresHamster · 03/08/2012 10:51

Vino we tried to tweaking and the other last night during the full moon and I'm still sat waiting... nada. Sad

I am drinking the loose RLT as advised by yoga teacher, I found it at Neal's Yard. It actually tastes nicer than the tea bags I think.

Whiteangel · 03/08/2012 11:05

Hm, I've got both clipper and Whittard tea bags and def notice more BH after drinking them. Surely a bit of paper(or whatever tea bags are made of) makes no difference? Also taking the capsules. Pelvis so sore I can hardly move at all today, never mind long walks or getting jiggy! Trying to alternate between my chair and ball but it hurts! I'm itching to Hoover the lounge but think I'll let DH do it when he gets back from B&Q with more paint.

frillylemons · 03/08/2012 11:36

Hamster how'd you do a big blank one???

ishopthereforeiam · 03/08/2012 12:40

west aka mrsg and frilly am curious why your naughty posts were deleted!? Wink

rumours soooo exciting but is there any way DH could get back sooner just in case? My 1st labour started with broken waters but the contractions were like minor tummy cramps that gor progressively worse. Once they started they didn't stop but I have heard of people have intermittent contractions for days so hopefully your baby will wait til your DH is back!

Also for iron - floradix or floradex is meant to be quite good, it's herbal I think? I had it post dd for iron. Yep the side effects of all the supplements are not nice!

MrGeresHamster · 03/08/2012 13:24

Ishop we were both part of a naughty hilarious thread where someone worked out how to do a blank post.

Then today someone worked out how to do a long blank post.... only one other person bothered worked it out too. Grin

'twas slightly childish. But fun.

Frilly, you need to copy and paste the original symbols lots of times, with a space between each. Wink

Baby needs to come soon to give me something worthwhile to do with my time.

MrGeresHamster · 03/08/2012 13:29

Whiteangel I first used the Heath and Heather bags, the tea was red in colour. The loose leaves are just the leaves. It sounds like yours might be strong enough though, although the RLT doesn't give me BH's, is it meant to? I do have them but haven't noticed any correlation.

frillylemons · 03/08/2012 13:55

Thanks Hamster!

I'm really sorry to do this, I know it's incredibly selfish, but I'm feeling really down Sad

The baby is pressing on a nerve at the top inside of my left leg which causes occasional (but happens very often) excruciating pain which makes me cry out in pain and cry actual tears. It's really debilitating because I can't walk anywhere, it's that bad Sad I'm so fe up. Especially as baby isn't due until 28th so I've got ages to go.

MW said its not sciatic but nothing to worry about. Does anyone have any advice?

hamncheese · 03/08/2012 14:05

Greetings from the ward. Alexander's doing brilliantly, totally healthy and well only a little head bruising to complain of which makes him fractious when changing or undressing poor wee soul. He has blonde hair and his nickname is going to be sandy :) can't tell you how perfect he is, it's incredible!

Phone packed in so on DHs iPad briefly using his work mobile as a wifi hotspot ha so this won't be long. Will go into more detail once home hopefully that will be tomorrow, depends on breast feeding which is getting better so all should be ok.

To those worried about back to back alexander wasnt back to back until I went into labour, had mw a few days before and he wasn't so yours may turn. Not wanting to worry anyone especially as I have no other labour pain to compare to but I needed as epidural, couldn't have not had it as the back pain meant I couldn't push it was so sore, but with the epidural I could managed it. JUST managed to get him out without forceps so it was I imagine a lot harder than if no epi for pushing IYSWIM but necessary. And this from someone excessively anti epidural before!

Almost visiting time now so will go but catch up on all posts once at home with the wee guy. One thing though I am amazed at how much he responds to me already, I can calm him just with my voice and it is amazing. So in love with him hehe Grin

geekette · 03/08/2012 14:26

Oh Ham! So sweet. Lovely he responds to you already !

Yes I am still in hospital. A new date for the section has been given and my babe should be born on the 8th if all goes well :)

I am hospital bound till then mostly in case of an emergency

Whiteangel · 03/08/2012 14:27

Oh ham I'm so jealous. I want mine now! RLT is supposed to prepare the muscles for labour so BH made sense to me. Anyway off to bounce on my ball before curry for tea!

geekette · 03/08/2012 14:41

Hmm my keyboard stopped working...

Was just going to add: doing OK. Loving sudokus and novels and the Olympics with lots of walking. Althouh the walking won't help my labour, it keeps me sane!

PictureThis · 03/08/2012 16:19

I've never heard that the RLT has to be in leaf and not bag form, interesting. Anyhow, I'm on three cups a day of the bag stuff and it's working fine on my BH's. Speaking of them they can be uncomfortable. They key is that contractions become progressively more painful, regular and closer together and don't ease regardless of what you do. I think that towards the end of pregnancy BH' can become more uncomfortable and there is some thought that it's all part of preparing the cervix for labour. When I get mine which incidentally seems to be in the evening I'll go for a soak on the bath which usually stops them, certainly while I'm in there. When in labour they don't stop. I remember when I was in labour with DD I was definitely aware of the difference between BH and contractions as I had to really focus on getting through them (3 cylinders of entonox helpedWink).

Frilly have you tried painkillers for the pain. It's all very well your mw saying it's nothing to worry about but if you can't walk because of it then it's obviously a problem so I would go back and see your GP. Yes there probably is very little that can be done but you can be prescribed appropriate painkillers and an obstetric physio referral if necessary.

Ham you sound head over heels with your boy, wonderful. Enjoy being a Mummy, he'll make you smile everyday.

Geekette I bet you're getting a bit of cabin fever. Just enjoy your last few days of putting your feet up and not having to cook, although I do realise meals on the NHS can be a bit ropey. Not long now.

Nightfall1983 · 03/08/2012 16:44

Friday! Always gets a massive Grin from me - 3 more weeks at work :-)

Got BIL and SIL round for dinner tonight which is nice, I've just made some rocky-road cupcakes, took so much will power not the lick the bowl!! They smell yummy though, so looking forwards to sampling.

I've been quite sore today, can definately start to tell baby is engaging, was 1/5 on weds but would imagine that it's more than that now. Bending down at all is nearly impossible, used to just be uncomfortable but now physically cant, feel like my pelvis is fixed in position. I can feel a slightly painful kind of pressure in my pelvic region too, and a hard to decribe pain that's in the same region as the cervix pain that I was getting previously but more all over and not quite as sharp. Hmm, difficult to explain. Am sure it's all just my body getting itself ready slowly...

Whoop 36 + 6 - from tomorrow will officially be allowed into the birthing pool!!

Weekipper · 03/08/2012 16:49

Geekette are you in a room to yourself or a ward with others to chat to?

I had my 2nd monitoring for high BP and 'passed' so am now allowed to continue just letting mother nature do her thing. I perhaps need to get onto the RLT but have been bouncing and enjoyed a lovely long walk along the beach in the sun yesterday but wow did I pay for it last night. Moving between sitting and standing was agony! Luckily it's worn off while asleep.

Olympics- I'm following cycling as DH is an avid cyclist but I like the BBC as Cav is on Blush

Was wondering if the full moon would have encouraged more babies out but is seems not!
