popinda that is appalling, I would complain. Angry

GummiberryJuice · 16/07/2012 20:21

Popinda that is awful, I would purposely stay away from her.
On the other hand to give you some comfort I'm only 4/5 weeks and have put on weight already, but I did read recently it is ok to diet sensibly while pregnant so I intend to be very careful this time round.

Popinda · 16/07/2012 20:37

Forgot to say, that when I told her I think everything is fine as I haven't had any bleed or pain and my hpt is still positive, she told me of course is positive, because it will be positive two weeks after you mc! I told that I dont think I have miscarried and she told me: well we will see, it's possible you did! It's in hands of god now! That's what she said! I think she was having prejudice about me because I'm not english born! But it's not like I'm 16 and not working! I'm 29 and been working full time ever since I came to uk and I'm only going to take about 3 months maternity leave!

GummiberryJuice · 16/07/2012 20:55

Popinda, that's a disgrace, but I do hope she just has bad bedside manners and it is not because of who are, I think Ethel is right and you should complainAngry

mandasand · 16/07/2012 21:03

oh dear popinda, that is awful. I do hope you find another caring and compassionate doctor, or at least one who isn't horrible and upsetting! Hopefully you will have a wonderful midwife too. :-)

About dieting whilst pregnant, I'm not an expert, but I don't think it's advisable to take in less than the recommended number of calories. But as you've got to be extra careful that you eat healthily in order to look after the growing bean then, so I've read, this is a good opportunity to eat really well - so maybe a salad rather than chips, sometimes?

That said, the fact I'm not drinking any cider means that I am definitely taking in fewer calories than normal! ;-)

any other vegetarians on the list? I did think I'd eat a bit of meat whilst preg but so far the urge hasn't taken me.

ethelred ? 10lbs!!! Cor! :-)

I second the request from tiddley for your manuscript, rosi! We could be a focus group for your book as it comes together! I am liking that idea the more I think about it!

The Joys of Working form Home no.133: being able to spend a good ten minutes in the bathroom with mirror and torch trying (and utterly failing) to take a peek at my cervix to see if it's bluey purple like they say it should be during pregnancy.

Another weirdo symptom: the right and left side of my stomach (bit below belly button) has gone really hard, as if I'm growing new muscles. Anyone else have this?!

Hitchingal · 16/07/2012 21:23

posy so glad to hear your good news! Agree that it's also great to be surrounded by so many inspirational ladies - authors, academics -wow!

KF your manager sounds awful, glad your doctor was supportive
popinda that's awful - can you complain about your doctor, or not see her again?

WithNailandI · 16/07/2012 22:00

Hi, just wanted to apologise for complete lack of involvement on this thread since joining. Work has been busy and my DD does not go to sleep or stay asleep at the moment so no time to mumsnet. Wah, not fair. Anyway I'll catch up on thread now (it's a miracle DD is asleep!) and post later hopefully. Hope everyone is hanging in there.

Hitchingal · 16/07/2012 22:43

Oh and manda I had a serious caffeine habit - quit the diet coke & espresso but still having tea most days, 1 or 2 Smile

Sunnymeadows · 16/07/2012 22:48

mandasand my tummy feels like I've been doing lots and lots of sit ups but is not hard. I lost 70lbs before getting pregnant as i wanted the best chance and didn't want to be told i was too big to conceive. I don't want to put the weight back on and Im still going to the gym. Im not on a diet, just eating healthy (i get my recommend calories) and at the gym I've toned it down to just cycling and swimming and aqua. I've got a session wed to discuss what i can do in the gym. Im a large 14 or 16 now and want to be healthy for DC, I've heard it helps but just don't go mad.

My boobs have settled too nowhere near as sore as they were. This has been making me worry tbh. I've also got upset tummy. I got my scan letter today, exciting! Im booked in for post 30th august, exactly 12 weeks.

Sunnymeadows · 16/07/2012 22:50

Not sure what "post" has to do with it, blames predictive text!

tedmundo · 16/07/2012 22:58

tiddley .. I am glad you like my posts. That made me feel good, thank you!

I am actually from a family of failed writers .. And by that I mean journalists! Father, sister and brother in law all work (or worked as dad is retired) for a major daily newspaper. And yes they have all attempted novels at some point. My niece writes short stories that astound me with their maturity .. She is eleven. I am so proud of her.

popinda .. I am sorry you have had such a tough time with your doctor. Make a huge point of refusing any appointment times with them from now on, ask if there is any other doctor free. That will soon get back to the practice manager, I am sure.

ThreeForTea · 16/07/2012 22:58

manda i'm guessing the results of that 'exploration' won't end up in your published works! Grin

Leftwingharpie · 17/07/2012 06:31

mandasand I'm vegetarian and had similarly planned to eat a bit of meat in pg. Mainly to allay DH and MIL's concerns. In the end I concluded I don't want to eat meat, I don't like it and I don't even slightly believe I need it as part of a healthy diet. So I packed it in to everyone's horror and now every time I feel tired or have a bit of nausea I get told it's because I'm not eating meat. MIL keeps asking when the doctor is going to put me on supplements to "give me energy"... Er never?

Popinda that doctor sounds terrible - I would definitely avoid seeing her again.

Well, I have probably been very stupid but I did another clearblue digital test this morning, which is still saying I am 3 weeks +. I know that the hormones can hang around for a while but I am hoping that this is a good sign... Don't know if I am just giving myself more false hope.

Hope you are all well.

tiddleypompom · 17/07/2012 07:42

Morning all - just stuffing myself with a humongous bowl of cereal in the hope that it takes the nausea away any excuse

woody I don't think hope is a bad thing. There is a chance that all is well & they will find a heartbeat tomorrow - it was too early last time wasn't it? Thinking positively will get you through the next 24 hours. Hoping it passes fast for you.

A family of 'failed' writers - even that sounds romantic ted! Perhaps you should write a script - there must be done scope on mumsnet for a pretty decent comedy drama?!

I have stomach gripes today. Ho hum - fun isn't it? Woke at 5.30 in a panic as I'd forgotten my supplement yesterday. Convinced myself in 5 mind flat that all was lost... Seriously, how are we going to make it till out scans in August?? I'll be a babbling wreck by then.

Re: weight. I think I've put on a couple of lb but more worrying is the bump. I look like I did last time at around 15-20weeks. It is quite clear I'm pregnant (or was unable to shift baby bulge from last time). My stomach muscles must be totally screwed.

Really sorry to hear about vile Dr pops - unbelievably unpleasant let alone rude. I do hope you can ignore the doom they spouted & keep positive about your pregnancy - yes it is a miracle but not so very rare...

What's going on with these none sleeping baby girls then? How old? Is the no sleep a new thing or were they always difficult sleepers?

tiddleypompom · 17/07/2012 07:49

Sorry for the multitude of typos (again). Also, woody I meant to say that there is every chance of it all bring fine tomorrow. The cb test certainly isn't a bad sign! Hoping with you.

tiddleypompom · 17/07/2012 07:49

*being. Gah, I give up!!

mandasand · 17/07/2012 08:05

Glad I'm not the only one having the odd cup of caffeine, hitchin!

Cor sunnymeadows, I'm deeply impressed with the gym and weight loss. I had about a stone or so to lose (a hangover from a 10-month stay in America), but because I came back and started working from home I didn't get my usual cycling commute and somehow jogging didn't really help long term. I'm not too bothered about the excess weight now pregnant, but I'm really keen to be as fit as poss for the labour, thinking that if you've got strong muscles then it might go quicker and/or be less time recovering and/or take less time to get back into some sort of shape. Thus the pre-natal yoga and pilates DVDs which I'll hoping to sample later on today - I shall report back!

And sunny, also, my boobs too settled down a few days ago. Still a tiny bit sore when not wearing a bra but nothing like what they were and I'm having a little panic about that too!

threefortea - hehe, NO!!! but you lot might get a mention in my Acknowledgements for keeping me company during these tricky early days of pregnancy! Flowers

good to hear about the vegetarianism, leftwing!! My meat-and-two-veg-is-the-only-meal MIL used to make an effort, cooking a separate veggie pasta dish for me, when we visited, but the last few times she hasn't bothered and I've had to cook something myself or go get a ready meal which is fine but I'd never treat a guest like that. Be interested to see if that changes now I'm carrying her grandchild!

On the meat front, I decided it may be a good idea to eat meat, to make sure of a full complement of nutrients etc, whilst pregnant and so over the past 18 months of so she we've been talking about starting a family once every few months I've tasted the odd flake of meat from DH's plate when we go out to eat of get a takeaway (I cook at home and it's always veggie -- apart from ham sarnies for DH's lunch and when we have guests when I might do sausages!) But it leaves me a bit cold. Like you, leftwing, I just really don't want to eat meat. DH is fine with whatever I choose, but I know he wants kids to eat meat. I would bring them up veggie, but I think a workable compromise is what we do now for him. I think (and sorry if I offend anyone) that as a nation we eat too much meat anyway, so a diet with a small amount of (organic, locally reared, ideally if budgets and meat industry allow!) meat should be more than enough.

Hang on in there, popinda. Thinking of you this morning.

mandasand · 17/07/2012 08:07

crossposts, tiddley! morning! hope your cereal settles your stomache gripes :-)

woody17 · 17/07/2012 08:11

tiddleypompom yes they saw the heartbeat on friday but on Sunday they couldn't see it although baby had grown. It was a less sensitive scanner so that might have explained it as everything is still so small.

mandasand I totally agree with you about eating too much meat.

ThreeForTea · 17/07/2012 08:48

Ugghh I feel sick. Waiting in Starbucks for a caff yes a caff latte before my training at nine. Dd was up fro two till six, I might die :(

Carikube · 17/07/2012 09:06

Yet once again I have managed to get completely behind with all the posts. Huge sympathies to all those going through a traumatic/worrying time at the moment. I've been lucky enough to breeze through my first two pg without a problem so I have had no idea what it must be like. BUT I had a bleed yesterday which scared the life out of me. Fortunately it was only a small one and there hasn't been anything since so I'm hoping it's nothing sinister. However I am now getting fairly regular pains on my left hand side so I'm getting a bit concerned about ectopic. I've managed to convince myself that this pg is going to be ending one way or another some time soon but can't do much other than wait. If I'm still having the pains in my side in 24 hours DH and I have said I'll get in touch with GP but as I'm only 5+3 I don't know if there's too much anyone could see/look at in the meantime.

As for caffeine, I drank it through both previous pg and have been drinking tea this time time round. I go off coffee each time but will still have 2-3 cups of tea a day. I ended up giving up tea at about 7 months last time round as DD2 had an irregular heartbeat when I went to see the MW one time and she said that caffeine could be a cause - heartbeat went back to normal on subsequent visits. I hate decaffeinated tea and got really fed up those last 2 months drinking hot ribena/peppermint tea and not much else so this time decided to cut back on the caffeine early in the hope that I wouldn't have to cut it out entirely.

Was woken up this morning by the girls to be informed that DD2 had managed to get poo on DD1's bed. no idea how as she was in a nappy but not the nicest way to wake up in the morning!

Hope everyone has a good day....

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 17/07/2012 09:23

Morning all, hope those of you waiting for news today get good outcomes, I've got everything crossed for you (and us all, for that matter!)

Off work again today, normally work tues, wed, thurs, but DH is off on some work
Golfing jolly, so us easier for me to stop at home with DD rather than faffing about with trains and taxis to pick DD up from nursery (we both commute about 40mins in opposite directions and have one car...) not sure what we might do, you'd never believe this, but I think it might rain...Grin. So might just stop at home and see neighbours this aft for a brew. On that subject, still having coffee, couple of cups per day.

Definitely got slightly tender boobage this morning, not very painful, but def slightly different to usual. Also feeling a bit nauseous every now and again. Hope I'm nit imagining it, but also apprehensive as if feeling like this now, and not even 5 weeks, am I going to end up with full blown MS?! I had none with DD so don't know how I will cope Grin
Need to go and wash my hair anyway, I look like worzel gummage.

IWantAYeti · 17/07/2012 09:48

Its so hard to keep up with this thread!
I got my scan booked for the end of august so not too long to wait, I will only be 11 weeks then though hopefully it won't make much difference.

I don't eat much meat either, my BIL told me I would HAVE to eat red meat when pregnant hmm yes because no vegetarians or vegans ever have babies!

Oh and I was going to ask does anyone know what happens at your booking in appointment?

Hope you everyone is feeling good today and not too sick!

roseandroli · 17/07/2012 10:17

Good morning everyone. Thinking of those of you who are going through a worrying time, fingers crossed for positive outcomes.

mandy and tiddly, it is so kind of you to want to read my manuscript I won't torture you with it unless it's much improved. I just swatted a giant fly with the first 50 pages, which seemed like a good use for it. Joking aside, mandy let's motivate each other to get our books done before March. I can't imagine turning my PhD thesis into a manuscript (I studied Anthropology but I am a lapsed academic)such a difficult task. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Popinda your doc sounds truly horrid. It's shocking how insensitive medical professionals can be--I had some bad experiences with my last mc which have left me traumatized, and the next time I get a scan, I'm going to close my eyes and make my dh whisper the (hopefully not bad) news in my ear.

Are you all planning to do NCT classes? Last time I signed up as soon as I got my BFP, but then I had to write to them and tell them I'd miscarried, etc etc and I don't want to go through all of that again. On the other hand, I live in Hackney and apparently the classes get booked up really fast. Any thoughts?
