Hi everyone, as we were close to the 1000 message limit i thought i should start a new thread so we could link this one (and we don't all end up wandering in cyberspace for a few days again Grin)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CakeBump · 23/06/2012 21:27

I'm planning on waiting until August to start realistically thinking about what we need - after our wedding and honeymoon so have got lots to occupy me until then!

I'm hoping to get most of it through donations (aside from the neighbour mentioned earlier my SIL and a friend have offered stuff) or second hand, as we don't have a lot of spare cash at the moment. My parents have offered to buy the pushchair though and I'm kind of hoping the IL's might stretch to a car seat.... :)

cod glad to hear your DS had a lovely day - now have an early night!!

SeymoreButts · 24/06/2012 01:24

COD sounds like DS had a lovely time! 6 year DD went to a party yesterday evening and got home at 8pm white as a sheet and ready to be sick. She'd been eating sweets for the full 3 hours! Now when I tell her to stop eating sweets I can say "remember the time you were nearly sick..."

I'm not sure when we will start to buy things. Maybe a few months before the due date. We gave our moses basket and M&P swing to a friend a couple of years ago. She won't be needing them by the time this baby is born, but since we're in Australia now and she's in the UK we won't be getting them back!

ItsMYNutella this thread moves so quickly I've missed which test you are having. Good luck on Monday, I hope it goes ok.

knottyhair · 24/06/2012 06:52

ItsMYNutella, good luck for Monday. COD, glad your DS had a great time.

We're not buying anything yet, want to wait for the next scan on 8th August to see if we can find out what flavour it is. Given that we hadn't planned on a second child and DS is 8, we've sold/given away everything baby-related, and I mean EVERYTHING. So we're starting from scratch again, but luckily various friends have offered us a cot, Moses basket, highchair & 2 bouncy chairs which we're really grateful for.

Well we're off to Surrey today for a supercar event, although the weather looks anything but super at the moment...

SpottyTeacakes · 24/06/2012 07:40

knotty that's when my scan is too Smile

Dd had us up all night because our idiot neighbours had their washing machine going at 2am, I'm so tired Sad

Hope everyone enjoys their Sunday!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 24/06/2012 09:03

My next scan is on the 27th July at 19+5 can't wait!

15 weeks today, feeling better most of the time which is nice!

We have most stuff but most was given/brought for a song second hand! Will need clothes if it's a pink 1 although won't know until it pops out!

Hope everyone's ok!

I'll be 20+5 on mine which is 30/7 and looking at what we have going on with school and sports day stuff that'll be here really quick. Smile

Queenofsiburbia · 24/06/2012 10:13

Cod sounds like you had an exhausting day but worth for the big smiles all round! I can still remember lots of my birthday parties so it's worth the exhaustion.

nutella hope you had lovely hols, Bonne chance tomorrow, hope all goes well and you dont need to worry. BTW you have given me my biggest craving yet. DH doesn't know it but he's getting me a French stick and big jar of nutella later ;-) mmmmmmmm

cakebump this time last yr I was up to neck in elderflower and gin cordial for cocktails for our wedding. Its Lots of fun planning and i do hope all going well!

We have bought literally nothing. MIL offered us a monster ancient Silver cross pram as big as my car about least practical present ever other than that I'm abit daunted by all the boring technical research ahead and just want to buy mini clothes not crsppy 'feeding systems' or even 'pooing systems'!

Clarella · 24/06/2012 11:35

queen I have just attempted said technical research and feel utterly hacked off! Logged into which thinking would help matters but still confused as ever! Really not going to buy anything for ages yet but I know I need to get my head round what I want to both budget and check with friends.

Clarella · 24/06/2012 11:58

And DH can't get his head round cosleeping.

CakeBump · 24/06/2012 12:30

Clarella I'm still waiting (and waiting...) for DH to give up smoking so we can co-sleep. We don't have a lot of choice as we've only got one bedroom, but he's still puffing away :( He keeps saying he'll give up "any day now"....

Queenofsiburbia · 24/06/2012 12:43

Co-sleeping not even an option for us! DH has such early start and looked terrified when I just mentioned it. He nearly had a heart attack yesterday when I let the dog on bed for first time and last time hes very hairy! yesterday (but think he actually quite liked it!)

I'm going to suggest it for Christmas eve so we can 'wake up as a family' and then carry on... maybe. I might not like it either! Perhaps it is nice to have some space for ourselves?

MyDaydream · 24/06/2012 12:43

Cake - ask him how comfy he finds the sofa. When you point out that's where he'll be sleeping if he doesn't quit he might feel better about it. DP is hoping baby will make some of his family quit since we're going to be very strict on our smoking and baby rules.
I don't know anything about what we want. I keep thinking I know then change my mind. I'm trying to do it as on the cheap as possible and avoid buying loads that'll never be used. I'm going to try buy some of the stuff we won't need in the first week or so in the sales.

SpottyTeacakes · 24/06/2012 12:46

I agree, tell him he can't sleep in the same room as the baby whilst he's still smoking. It's hard though unless he really wants to give up it won't happen. Dp still smokes a bit but only ever at work and not every day so I pretend I don't know about it Grin

Queenofsiburbia · 24/06/2012 12:48

...another thing, I'm reaching depressing conclusion that I'm more fun when I'm drunk! Went to a 30th last night in London and tried valiantly to be fun and interesting but certainly easier after a few g&ts. Not only is everyone else drunk and annoying but I'm sober and boring Sad

CakeBump · 24/06/2012 13:09

We've had the conversation, he IS trying to give up... he feels shit about it to be honest, but it's got to be done...

I've threatened the sofa :)

SpottyTeacakes · 24/06/2012 13:12

Maybe he will find it easier when you have a massive bump and he can 'feel' the baby Smile

CakeBump · 24/06/2012 13:12

I'm definitely less sociable Queen but its tiredness as well I think. I much prefer to chat a little bit early on and then retire with my book.

We're in an unusual situation here as we have a restaurant, and live in the flat above. So in the evening our social life comes to us rather than us going out. I tend to escape upstairs around 9pm...

CakeBump · 24/06/2012 13:14

He's so excited about the baby, and he wants to be as hands on as possible, so I know he'll really want to give up and I hope once the baby is here he won't be tempted by smoking.

However he's a really heavy smoker and everyone round here smokes. He's finding it so hard.

Queenofsiburbia · 24/06/2012 13:16

Gosh cake that sounds so tiring!
Do you get nice meals cooked for you? :)

So annoying for you about the smoking, why don't you mention NHS quit program? It's not like you can get away without being overloaded with helpful government health advice, only fair that he gets some too!

CakeBump · 24/06/2012 13:22

It is tiring Queen but the most annoying thing is the hours that DP has to put in. I can often go up at 9ish and he has to stay until the last person goes home. We have hardly any life outside the restaurant.

I do get nice meals cooked but I eat a hell of a lot of the same thing all the time!! Bloody pasta cos its the cheapest thing on the menu :)

MyDaydream · 24/06/2012 13:34

I don't drink often when I'm not pregnant but never feel boring, now though I really do feel like a pensioner. I went out on Friday since I'd organised an activity that didn't involve drinking but everyone fancied a pint after. Sat in the pub exhausted at 11pm nursing a cup of tea made me feel very old and boring!
I quit smoking maybe a month before I got my positive and being pregnant is probably the only thing that's stopped me smoking sometimes.

NaomiRuth · 24/06/2012 14:13

I've been looking at cots. The Stokke Sleepi has good reviews but I can't justify the price. Plus needs special oval mattress and covers. Having said that there are quite a few on eBay at more sensible prices.

One of my friends recommended getting a cot that fits next to our bed with a side that comes down so it's easier to feed in the night. But it all depends what kind of sleeper the baby is.

Fed up with researching now, maybe we'll just get quite simple stuff so we don't waste money! Aching from sitting at the computer for hours :-(
Just eaten some chocolate orange to cheer myself up.

Clarella · 24/06/2012 15:05

naomi A friend has offered hers which apparently has a side that goes up to go against the bed, however if we don't have that (she was drunk both times and is trying to complete a phd with 2 small boys) im sure there's one in IKEA that does similar for much less.

FriendofDorothy · 24/06/2012 15:06

I will be buying almost nothing new. I will be buying my sister's Phil and Ted's plus a car seat off her for £150 and she has a cot and almost everything else I need to give me. We re pretty fortunate really!

SpottyTeacakes · 24/06/2012 15:09

My local gumtree has loads of iCandy's for sale, with a look Smile
