Mamma and McKayz's thread!

It's the home run ladies Grin

Hi ladies! Some jolly lovely squidgy babies you have -17lbs?! J was 17lb 3 at 24 weeks, which put her on the 75th (it does slow down a lot!) but then started crawling and put on no weight at all in the next two weeks. I think she may be around 18lbs now. You're all doing so well!

Hope weaning goes well. DD didn't crack it at all until 6 months, but she's really making progress now - we're BLW and doing three meals a day, but she doesn't actually consume much yet.

She eats what we eat - good foods so far are porridge fingers, spaghetti, yoghurt, chicken (holds shape, retains bite for a while, but doesn't come off in big lumps), vegetable nuggets, those carrot puff crisp things from Organix etc. fruit and veg are enjoyed for taste and flavour but she doesn't consume much yet.

Good luck and enjoy your meet up!

foolserrand · 29/07/2012 19:20

What? No! Don't blame me! If you follow the advice of a person who sticks her fingers to frying pans (making quesadillas. It hurt. A lot. Still does actually), you deserve everything you get Grin.

Hi Epic! Sounds like you and Odie are doing fantastically well. Sorry you're still waiting to hear about your mil. Can only imagine how hard that must be for you all.

So, those of you with decent human beings for a dp/dh, anyone want to swap? He never wakes up, moans if I wake him up 'early' at the weekend while dealing with the kids and heaven forbid I ask him to help in the night! We had a few nights with ds having an accident and waking up while Flissy was eating.

McKayz, your health visitor sounds fab! Oh the fun you can have winding her up Grin! Please mess with her!

So, I have forgotten lots. Am blaming the pain in my finger. Twas terrible having to pull my finger free and it's still agonisingly painful hours later. We did have a huge success last night though, 9-5.30 she slept people! This was blatantly a one off and she did make up for it by shitting on the new sofa. SadGrin

Right, I'm off to get some beauty sleep so I don't scare the folks of tunbridge wells tomorrow! Grin

AnchorBun · 29/07/2012 19:40

Lilly's started to love food now too, favourites are banana, toast, cauliflower, carrot, yoghurt, chicken and rice pudding. She's definitely not consuming enough to replace milk feeds either, just having fun with it. Smile

What are porridge fingers Ghost?

Grin Fools! I can assure you, another night like last night and I'll be looking like death tomorrow!

AnchorBun · 29/07/2012 19:46

Oh oh! Lilly's sitting up unaided!

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 29/07/2012 19:49

Just an easy way to eat porridge; it's a BLW recipe. Use 3 tbsps of porridge and 3 of milk (expressed/formula/cow's as desired), mix together and let them soak for a bit.

Microwave for about 1-2 mins and alice in to fingers. Serve when cooled a bit. Porridge you can pick up!

ghosteditor · 29/07/2012 19:50

Nice work Lilly!

TroubleAndFyfe · 29/07/2012 20:16

Ooh, well done lily!
Porridge fingers sound great! Any other good recipes please let us know.Smile

TroubleAndFyfe · 29/07/2012 20:21

Oops, sorry, Lilly!

ghosteditor · 29/07/2012 23:32

The vegetable nuggets ( here ) went down very well and they freeze really well too.

Strawberries are really fun once they can dig their fingers in to hold them (ooo! We had pincer grip yesterday!)

My advice? Don't go on a diet at the same time you start weaning - we've quite frequently had three different meals to contend with. I've lost 10lbs though, finally back at pre-pg weight, so relieved Grin

AnchorBun · 30/07/2012 00:01

Ooh they both look great! Thanks Ghost Smile
Wow for the weight loss!! I've plateaued at my pre-preg weight/size. Need to go down a size to be healthy for me (I'm a size 16 at the mo).

DS has had his first bed wetting tonight (he's had dry nights with no nappies the last 3 nights, woohoo!), it was my fault though, I forgot to remind him to go to the toilet before bed. Poor little sod was so tired he just wanted to sleep in it Grin

McKayz · 30/07/2012 06:52

I'm shattered. Rosalie has a blocked nose and has been crying most of the night unless we held her sitting up.

ghosteditor · 30/07/2012 08:34

Poor Rosalie Sad. Do you have saline drops for her nose and olbas oil for her room? Helped J a bit with the two rotten colds she's had.

bun, the veggie low carb diet I've been doing has been amazing - 10lbs in less than a month, just dropped off. Has levelled a bit now but I'm still losing a pound every few days and it doesn't seem to have affected breastfeeding at all, plus I've rarely been hungry.

McKayz · 30/07/2012 09:21

We have a saline nose spray thing but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I might try the olbas oil too. I have ordered one of those aspirator things from amazon as nowhere sells them here.

DH is out this morning driving trains and has forgotten to take the pram out of the car so I might try out the sling again today.

I love the Olympics. So many various sports to watch. I watched the gymnastics yesterday. Beth Tweddle was super.

EpicOde · 30/07/2012 09:29

morning all! Odie is asleep in his cot!! Whilst i'm really pleased, I need to leave in 5 minutes for the meet - think i'm going to be late folks - sorry!

His trips out with Daddy went really well yesterday - no tears at all! Came home happy and sat in his bouncy chair for ages! We had an awesome evening around our friends (while Odie stared at the olympics coverage on the TV in teh background - he was so into it!) then sadly a MASSIVE meltdown when we got home. (as in nearly 2 hours of unstoppable crying... was awful). Think it was partly his routine being completely ignored for a day, partly being overtired, partly teething (he's chewing things so hard around his front teeth area) and partly wind; we'd decided to stop the infacol as we thought he was coping ok without it (having had some daytimes without it and no problems) but last night he really suffered with wind again - was horrid! Was just like when we first brought him home. So he's going back on it today - will try getting him off it again in a few weeks time.

Oh! he's awake! (but not crying!!!)

trouble yep - we can talk weaning! I'm no expert, but have been doing some reading - will be good to chat about it! :)

OK - off to feed the boy then to Tunbridge Wells! Excitement! Grin

MammaInTheMaking · 30/07/2012 10:17

We're on our way, Violet's hanging out in the sling. The ticket man at Bromley tried to scupper our plans though by selling me tickets to Tonbridge rather than Tunbridge Wells!! Thankfully I noticed and got them switched at Orpington. Smile

I hope the aspirator works for rosalie mck. It has been very useful for Violet with her snot this week. Poor thing has really struggled breast feeding so have been doing a lot of expressing and bottle feeding. Dare I say it....I prefer bottle feeding Blush

McKayz · 30/07/2012 21:20

I've just had a go at expressing and got 2oz in about 10 minutes. DH is going to try and give it to her and see how we go.

Hope you've all had nice days.

Davinaaddict · 31/07/2012 10:10

Morning ladies - how was the meet up? Smile

I'm with you McKayz - fools will definitely get the blame if I pop it Grin

It sounds like you've got an extra child as a DP fools Sad I'm sure he must have some redeeming qualities though Smile Hope the finger's better today, and the sofa's clean Grin

I'm really looking forward to starting weaning and so is Lauren I think Grin She watches us all like a hawk as soon as we eat or drink anything, to the point that I can't eat anything when I'm feeding her now as she stops to watch and grin madly at me Grin Those veg nuggets sound amazing, although I may have to make double the amount, in case I eat them all! And did you chop off an arm ghost? You didn't look like you had a spare 10lbs to lose when we met up! Tell us more about the diet though Grin

How's Rosalie's cold McKayz? Hope she's feeling better. Well done for the expressing! I just express 2 oz a day and stick it in the freezer for when I go back to work. If I manage to express that every day between now and then, I should have enough for 22 bottles. But I probably won't be able to fit anything else in the freezer Grin

We've got Lauren's 3rd jabs today and I'm dreading it Sad Hopefully she'll settle like last time with a feed in the waiting room, but we'll see. I'm undecided on whether to walk down or take the car. It's about a mile so not far at all, I just don't know if I can face 20 mins of uphill screaming Sad So I might take the car just to get us home quickly. Lauren is now 4months & 2 days and no sign of the 4 month regression yet (although no doubt I've just jinxed us!) She wakes about every 3 hours anyway, and feeds so frequently during the day still, I'm hoping we don't notice it too much! Although she's now decided sleeping on an evening is for wimps and goes to bed around 10 with us Confused

Right time to get a quick shower whilst she's napping!

ghosteditor · 31/07/2012 14:29

davina the weaning is really fun once you've cracked it! J had fruit and veg sticks for a few weeks before turning 6 months, but there was lots of gagging and stress - she's ace at eating now and demolished sweet potato wedges for lunch today Grin. And yes, I ate half the nuggets for my dinner!

How did her jabs go?

The diet - still going ok, am under my pre-pg weight now and will ideally lose another 9lbs ish to get to fighting weight(makes fitness training and hockey a lot easier!) it's low carb but as I'm veggie we do protein and fat, not just protein.

It's a bit tedious - lots of egg, dairy, and courgette it seems! But I can have things like Thai curry with no rice and actually it's the curry that's the tasty bit! It also works as the only convenient snack is a piece of cheese, which I'm not too fussed about, but you're just about full enough from all the fat and protein that you don't feel too hungry. DH is now doing it too!

In other news, DD has 4 new teeth through today! She has the bottom too already so will be proper toothy now Sad. I hope she has left the biting behind though - bottom teeth rarely cause damage but she's made me bleed twice before and I hate to think what she can do with 6. She's so upset and grumbly today, poor poppet. I've just given her bonjela and Calpol so am hoping for an improvement.

TroubleAndFyfe · 31/07/2012 14:55

The meet up was great thanks!
I'm looking forward to weaning too! Will be fun.
Fyfe has his second tooth through today...4 at once? Goodness, poor J! Sad

ghosteditor · 31/07/2012 15:05

Calpol is magic Grin

AnchorBun · 31/07/2012 16:22

Bloody hell, J is going great guns Ghost! It's crazy to think she's only a day older than Lilly! How different they all are Smile A Bear for the little superstar on the condition that she stops biting! Ouch!

I've been cutting down a lot on carbs recently, they don't love me as much as I love them. I've seen a huge improvement in my eczema, energy levels, heart burn and more since cutting down. Any weight loss will be rather welcome too! Grin I agree about the lack of hunger, high (good) fat and protein diets rock! Grin

We're going through the fun process of getting rid of Lilly's dummies. She's been waking up so much during the night because her dummy's come out and we've entered the territory of it being a habit/comfort thing rather than a physical 'sucky-baby-need' thing now, so we're biting the bullet!
First night was awful; second night (last night) was an improvement - she was ok(ish) until 4am and then would not settle until 5.30 - so we shall see what tonight brings...

Right, must go and find the source of the smell in our fridge Blush Envy I suspect the Greek yoghurt Hmm [classy bird]

OP posts:
ghosteditor · 31/07/2012 17:55

bun sometimes I daren't go in our fridge; I'm not the most scrupulous cleaner at the best of times and now is not the best of times Wink.

Isn't it funny how different they are! I met a 10.5 mo boy who only started crawling this weekend. He's already better at it than J as he's so much stronger and more sensible! J is shit at sleeping and not cracking at eating so I think it's all horses for courses really.

MammaInTheMaking · 31/07/2012 20:09

Wowee all these teeth! I hope they don't nibble you all too much.

Weening does sound fun, I'll look forward to it when we get there. For now I'll continue to debate the best way to feed V. We're both still preferring the bottle although today I've BF a lot more than I have done recently. Poor bubba is still so snotty. She's been like this for a week now. Im sucking the snot out with an aspirator and using saline drops. Today she's been worse than ever so got some olbas oil. Should only be for 3 months plus, but I can't see the harm in using it now. It's def helped but before I know it she's blocked up again. What to do....? Sad

Wow watching the swimming. The Chinese are amazing. When did they get so good??

Meet up was great yesterday. Really enjoyed meeting fools, trope and trouble Grin. I fancy another pizza Wink

ghosteditor · 31/07/2012 20:30

mamma, when DD and I had dreadful colds, I used to bring her in the bathroom while I had a shower and fill a sink with hot water, Olbas Oil, and menthol crystals (from the chemist). It gets a bit minty in there but helped her quite a bit.

Then I'd leave a muslin with Olbas oil draped over the end of her cot. Miserable, isn't it. Worth remembering that while you're bfeeding she is getting good immunity which also helps Smile.

Davinaaddict · 31/07/2012 22:14

Ooh - just seen we've got a new smileyTorch Grin

The jabs were actually not that bad today, despite us having an extra injection today. I'm not sure whether it's because I gave her a dose of paracetamol before we went, or whether she's just toughened up Grin But we had a good feed and change whilst we were still there and she was fine so we went for a ridiculously long walk. I'm so going to ache tomorrow Confused But that should help me lose another 1.5lbs this week again! We have had a bit of a funny old day though. Lauren's fed LOADS and been back to her brief naps rather than good sleep then a good play. And that started before the jabs so I know its not them causing it Confused Oh well - just another change in the routine. Its the only thing that's constant!

4 teeth ghostShock DS had his first 8 come through 2 at a time, and I thought that was good going!

Gosh Bun you're very brave Smile DS still has his dummy as I'm too cowardly to take it off him yet Blush But he only has it when he's in bed and it will be gone before he's 3.

I echo ghost's advice on the cold solutions. Also, have you tried raising the head of her bed up a bit so it's not flat? A couple of books or something should do the trick - for some reason it seems to help.
