Hi Ladies, we have nursery furniture at last, just the boarder, blind and curtains to go up brother in law coming tomorrow to do they diy bits for me.

What do you all think of ten's machines are they worth buying/hiring? Also need advice on baby carrier/sling looked at today and totally confused to many really like the idea off as have dog and would love to walk dog while carrying baby!!

I am 32 weeks today and feels like for ever to go but know its not and seem to keep finding things haven't got.

Ordered the fisher price baby bath today the one with the sling inside to use from birth looks good but thought expensive for a bath £36.99.

susiegrapevine · 17/06/2012 21:59

Hey everyone am still suffering with this cold. Lying in bed now sneezing away

fairtrade one of the reasons to wash the clothes is because of some of the unsanitary conditions they are made in. A lot are made in 3rd world countries without the same regulations as here so even if they look and smell clean this is not nessecerily the case in fact someone told me we should all wash our clothes before we wear them really but who can be bothered with that!!

Can't believe ds will be 2 next sat and start nursery next week then I can start being organised like you ladies as have done nothing yet!! No proper hospital bag for me as home birth. My mum lives round the corner and is coming to get ds if I labour in the day but it could all be over by the time he wakes if its at night. 1st labour was less than 5hrs so I don't expect this one to be long!! Hopefully!!

susiegrapevine · 17/06/2012 22:03

Oh eighties would highly recommend a tens machine bought mine as was only 40 quid and I knew I would be having more than one baby and its nearly as expensive to hire plus sil has also used it and thought it was great I have the obi care tens. Think its still a simliar price now. Is very small as well unlike others so hangs off a lanyarn around your neck so it does not get in the way.

frillylemons · 17/06/2012 22:06

Vino I've not read them yet but sounds like DH might benefit Wink Nothing like a raunchy story to get the blood pumping! WinkWinkWinkWinkWinkWinkWink

sc0ttishlass · 17/06/2012 22:39

i went out and bought teh 50 shades of Grey book! I'm not sure whether to start it yet or wait to have some good books in the last few weeks ( I will be off work 4 weeks before due date).. mums out there, I'm envisaging chilling out and reading those last few weeks - and possibly even at times after when feeding etc - am I being too keen?? :) xx

ishopthereforeiam · 17/06/2012 22:55

Hi everyone waves

Busy weekend here but the good news is (touch wood it continues) I'm actually getting some zzzzs!!!!

Re cellular blankets still have the ones from dd, they were q useful to use in the car, and also rolled up as bumpers for the Moses basket. Not too expensive either, although to sleep she was swaddled in smaller blankets.

ham fab news on seeing something you liked, will you put an offer in?

poppy thx for the tip on electric toothbrush! Mine broke two days ago so will make sure I get a new one pre 27 July.

book recommendations I optimistically took magazines in hospital bag for labour (!) needless to say they didn't get read.... No books to recommend but would suggest no-one reads let's talk about Kevin soon! Made the mistake of reading it a few months ago Sad great read but awful at same time! Was also thinking of reading 50 shades...

Welcome back war zone

Sweet dreams all Grin

Ps Scottish in the first two months I had loads of free time while dd slept so sure you'll fit some reading In post feeds and naps.

sc0ttishlass · 17/06/2012 23:05

Thanks Ishop :) ps i read the kevin book a while back.. definately wont be reading anything like that again soon!! :)

Night all (just watched the BBC thing true love - not sure it was as good as I was hoping for.. but anyway - sleep time!)

xx

PictureThis · 17/06/2012 23:12

I've just watched My Sister's Keeper on ch4 and I am blubbing, snotty hormonal puddle who is off to bed via DD's room for a big squeeze.

ImissMiniPop · 17/06/2012 23:16

Just posted a pic of MiniPop on the FB group taken yesterday, when he should have been 33 weeks, instead of nearly 3 weeks old (tomorrow).

Night everyone :)

therumoursaretrue · 18/06/2012 00:02

Just checking in after weekend from hell Sad hope everyone else is doing better than we are here. Thank you all for your kind messages, I really appreciated them all. The funeral was yesterday, bump and I didn't do too well, I ended up back up at hospital on Friday as I'd severe pains in my chest. Stress was all getting a bit much I think. I'm trying to be calm for bump and DP but in private I've been a wreck! His mum was only just 50 so leaves behind a young family, hard to comprehend.

Anyway have been cheered up reading about baby baths and hospital bag plans! I really must get a move on! Anyone got an opinion on sterilisers, not sure where to start!?

therumoursaretrue · 18/06/2012 00:04

Also DPs dad told us last night after we got home from the funeral to expect the baby in 4 weeks! I laughed but secretly terrified as he knew I was pregnant before DP and I did, so he has form for getting these things right.

ishopthereforeiam · 18/06/2012 00:14

Hope you're doing ok rumours I know it's tough but please please try to destress a bit for you and bump. 4 weeks ... Shock !

We have the tommee tip pee sterilizer kit which came with bottles etc and worked well. Not sure how much it is at the mo but we picked it up (for dd two years ago) half price in boots (about 35-40 pounds).

OP posts:
ImissMiniPop · 18/06/2012 01:44

rumours really hope you have some people around you for support. It's a very tough time for everyone, sending you best wishes. :(

I have the phillips avent microwave steamer, purely because premature babies need their bottles heat sterilised. I have just ordered the Milton cold water steriliser as well though, for other stuff (bottle brush etc...).

I am actually using Medela bottles though, as these are what they use in the hospital.

frillylemons · 18/06/2012 07:28

Oh Rumours. I'm so sorry that you had such a difficult weekend Sad Are you still working or can you take time off to try and rest/relax?

Well, it's Monday and I don't mind Grin Unusual, yes. But it could be because the end is in sight and the rest of the admin team come back from annual leave today donut won't be just me...huuuuge stress last few weeks! 4 more full weeks to go, then 2 weeks of half days and that's it!!! Woop!

Maybe we should all read 50 Shades now and have our own little book group?!

hamncheese · 18/06/2012 08:13

My Mum keeps on going on and on about how all the newborn bits I buy won't fit the baby for quite a while if it's anything like I was when born... I was 7 5... so got some tiny stuff as really do expect a wee one based on all my and DH's family being small

I've got one cellular blanket bears but only one as was surprised how expensive they were compared to others. Hoping that having quite a few blankets of different thicknesses will be useful and muslins are really thin for if we ever have a hot spell!!

eighties I can help on the sling front after going to a sling meet! If you are really keen on a sling going to a meet is really good they will let you test all the different ones and show you their babies in them and how to tie them etc. Are you interested in a carrier - like with buckles - or a stretchy wrap type one??

Ugh hope the cold goes away soon susie :(

Can't put an offer in yet ishop as we have yet to sell the flat. The one we want has been on the market for a year though and I don't think the seller's estate agent is very good as the pictures online don't do it justice. Seriously I only looked at it as I was in the village anyway and had time to kill! But it is far far better than it looks! And it's only on some websites not others.. so I think we've found a hidden gem. So frustrating still need to sell before can offer though!!!

Sounds like a hard time rumors you are being very tough. Feel free to come and talk about nice normal baby things! I've been lent a steraliser from a friend but haven't even looked at it Blush as planning to BF and just had got milton for if expressing into bottles. Better take a look at it before august though!

NCT tonight for me... really loving it so looking forward :) have a great Monday all

MrsMigginslovespies · 18/06/2012 09:41

Hello all on tube heading for King's Cross and home to DH and DDog. Yay! Love going away but love being at home too!

Hope you manage to destress a bit Rumours and sorry to hear you've all had a tough tough time. 4 weeks!? Eek!

I think I am going to get one cellular blanket but am waiting first to see what pressies I get, as people are now asking what they can kindly buy. So sweet.
Re sterilisers, we've bought self-sterilising Mam bottles whose bases clean in the microwave. And I also may go all retro and boil in a pan/use Milton. Not much more room for more kit alas!

Hope everyone has a nice day. Can't wait for my own bed now Smile x

The3Bears · 18/06/2012 10:17

Rumours Hope your okay, make sure you relax and take your mind off things with all things baby x I have the avent microwave steriliser I only paid £7.50 for it from boots as it was half price and I had a parenting club voucher :) I used a microwave one with ds for all his bottles and the breast pump and all the weaning bits and it was great and at least you can hide it in the microwave if short on space.
Miggins Glad you had a nice trip :)
Ham ds was 7lb 6oz and fitted into newborn things for weeks even tiny baby clothes 0-3 just swamped him so i've got quite a few newborn bits :) Hope you have fun at nct tonight.
Frilly Glad your having a nice Monday, I had a rubbish night sleep due to ds climbing in bed at 12 saying he was scared and me being squashed all night but supprisingly upbeat this morning, think it might be because its SUNNY Grin Ive ordered 50 shades of amazon, it says delivery 5-6 days though :(
Scottish I read loads during the newborn stage and also watched plenty of boxsets while bfeeding so I would stock up on a few books :)
Going to sort all baby clothes out today and ds1s wardrobe so will be busy washing and ironing all day and then park after school :) Hope everyone has a lovely day

MrsMigginslovespies · 18/06/2012 12:25

Meant to say think i had my first proper BH earlier. Felt like a very strong sore stitch like after running down one side. Would that sound correct? Then went away after 30 secs or so.

geekette · 18/06/2012 12:45

Came on for a moan. Sorry ladies.

After my last few weeks of blissful, rose tinted, pregnancy, I have now spent the weekend feeling under pressure to have the PERFECT pregnancy.

Went to my first NCT class and somehow came out with the impression I do not do much activity and need to get cracking. And we got the, "make every bite count" advice repeated.

Now there is some new pregnancy eating book. Just knowing someone wrote that makes me feel I am eating too much or not the right thing or whatever. And I have stayed well away from any books to do with pregnancy!

And the last scan showed large abdominal circumference but the consultant isn't worried. But I am left wondering if I have eaten my baby into some form of diabetes. Thanks Dr Google, my fault for checking what that could mean anyway

I hate the media when it comes to women's bodies but right now I seem to feel the pressure more than before. I was a flipping size 10/12 before pregnancy and my thighs have shrunk since! I wish I could isolate myself but now all I want to scream is GO AWAY!

Rant over.

Carry on.

ishopthereforeiam · 18/06/2012 13:00

ham hopefully the house will be around for a while then and you get an offer in on your place soon. Ours is still "progressing" in the sense that the lawyers are working it all out but vendor not replied to questions from MAY!?!? Angry. On babyclothes dd was 6'13 and very small so newborn to 3 months didn't fit her but mamas and papas petite range did. We just rolled the sleeves up etc on the newborn size til we had a chance to get petite stuff.

Geekete hug? Ignore thes b*ards... they all lie about eating anyways. I also feel humungous - was a size 8-10 pre pg but the good news is lost even more weight post pg1 (ended up a 6-8) although my bum and boobs went a bit flat I didn't mind being a bit leaner elsewhere! I am eating a healthy diet of pizza, percie pigs, cornettos, galaxy and m&ms.

Us Brits are good at having a moan... bit annoyed with MiL who decided to ignore me and give dd cookies at the weekend when dd has a nut allergy as she doesn't listen to a word I say, poor dd all sneezy, runnry nosed and eyed all day long. Family eh, can't live with em... can't live without 'em.

OP posts:
geekette · 18/06/2012 13:05

Thanks for the hug iShop. I really needed one.

re family Grin Grin Grin They always know better

Lovemarmite · 18/06/2012 13:06

Rumours sorry to hear you've been having a lot of stress, and that you had to go to hospital, hope it all improves soon x

I feel your pain geekette!
I have bought a couple of books about what to eat in pregnancy and tbh, I'm eating what I can and fancy as everything seems to bloat me and the iron supps have definitely contributed to the glamorous constipation. And so when it comes to advice, paaa poo!
In fact, I think I've actually dropped weight from the first trimester as I'd really piled on the pounds and now I think I'm back to size 8-10 but with a bump that needs maternity clothes! Ohh that sounds bad but I'm definitely not starving myself, gone onto mung beans and rice to get the proteins in but the bowels active - TMI!

As for activity - ha ha! I can't walk fast at all and am baffled at things on the floor that need picking up. Although I did manage an amazing weekend of gardening on all fours and today, woke up feeling a bit better for it, and so I s'pose that counts for being more active?!

MrsMiggins am intrigued about the BHs. I don't think I've had any yet although I did have a really big pain like a period pain but was still Confused about it!

Hmm, is 50 shades of grey a naughty book? I couldn't quite tell from the reviews on amazon Blush

Off to look at cellular blankets and that book!...

hamncheese · 18/06/2012 13:22

I just ate supernoodles for lunch geekette. I wouldn't feel too bad about any of that stuff Wink

Right now I've stopped gaining as much weight as I am too busy to gorge... for some reason I went through a fatty period at the end of the 2nd, now though if I eat a full meal I am in agony for hours after due to rib expansion. Last night was in so much pain... considering taking pain killers for it sometimes it's so sore. Just have to try and control myself but no time for having 6 small meals a day plus all the washing up argh!

That's so annoying ishop are you selling too or just buying? Just called the estate agent and we are now on a fixed price and badgered them for free premium listing and better window space..bring on the sale!! Also your MIL sounds really grrrrr giving your allergic DD nuts!!

nice weather in glasgow town today Grin

Oh and i've managed to burst both my maternity leggings. So so bad. Will have to go buy more now. I guess it's not ALL bump then eh? Blush

ontheedgeofwhatever · 18/06/2012 13:48

Hello everyone. Rumours sorry to hear you've been having such a bad time

Has anyone else developed obstetric cholestasis? I had it in my last pregnancy so they've been checking for it this time. They did a blood test last Monday and said if I heard nothing by Wednesday I didn't have it. I heard nothing but went in on Saturday afternoon to go on monitors because baby seemed not be moving (it was just couldn't feel it) and I asked them to do another blood test as was itching really badly. Midwife checked Monday's results and said no need as I already have it. Now on two more kinds of meds plus up to weekly appointments and will be induced at 38 possibly even 37 weeks. I'm miserable and itchy and have already got blood oozing out of the worst scratches. The medicine they gave me to stop itching sends me to sleep so can't take it in the day as need to do school runs and try to work.

Moan, moan, moan that's all I ever do. Grin Baby so close now and still NO pram and no hospital bag. Seriously need to go and spend some money
