Hi everyone. Hope all is well in PSEPP land
Cartoon that sounds similar to what happened to me with DS1. I should point out that I don't know why you've been offered an early scan so apologies if I'm barking up the wrong tree and you're not in the same situation as I was.
Basically before DS1 I had a miscarriage which was dealt with at the EPAU. At that time the lady said that in any subsequent pregnancy if I wanted to I could contact them directly for a reassurance scan. However I can't remember if they told me at that time, or when I tried to get a reassurance scan for my second pregnancy, that if I had a reassurance scan after 8 weeks it would then be instead of my 12 week scan.
The huge difference was though that at that time my pct didn't offer the nuchal fold business.
In the end when I was pg again (with DS1) my 12 week scan came through with a date at 15 weeks and I thought I would go mad if I had to wait until 15 weeks to check everything was okay so I phoned the EPAU and they got me in for a scan at about 12 weeks.
This time I didn't even bother phoning and just paid for a private scan at eight weeks. But then this was a different PCT and there was the nuchal fold stuff to consider as well.
I would also add though that it seems rarely do GPs speak the gospel as to what happens during pregnancy. Sometimes they know what they're talking about but very often GPs don't know the procedures like a midwife would so I would make sure you either speak to a midwife or directly to the hospital to see what the procedure should be. There are lots of examples, even just on MN, of people who get an 8 week scan on the NHS and a 12 week scan too so it is perfectly possible. I assume it just depends why they are giving you an eight-week scan and as I say I don't know your background (apologies
).
I hope that makes sense and when you speak to a nice sensible midwife they will see that you are a brooker and therefore completely deserve an 8 and a 12 week scan
.
