Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Evilwater · 12/06/2012 15:43

for the pram yes.

Evilwater · 12/06/2012 15:44

and i forgot to add everything else, apart from the car seat.

applepieinthesky · 12/06/2012 15:46

That's what I meant. I wouldn't ever buy a second hand car seat.

Evilwater · 12/06/2012 15:48

in fact im checking gumtree.

applepieinthesky · 12/06/2012 15:49

I have seen some bargain second hand prams on gumtree. Check your local paper as well.

Thechick · 12/06/2012 16:38

EW it is all very confusing. We did go to John Lewis and Mothercare to see whats out there. DH found a graco evo in mothercare that was quite lightweight and below £300 if you don't get the car seat and its from birth. I read that its exclusive to mothercare but won't be from September so I think we are going to wait until then and see if it does reduce in price. And the car seat, i don't drive and neither does dh so we are just getting a basic one from argos.

Thechick · 12/06/2012 16:42

DH I have an obvious bump too and i'm not feeling anything. We'll get there, I'm sure of it.

applepieinthesky · 12/06/2012 16:49

Yes it is very confusing. I found the more I looked the more confused I got so I just made a decision and stuck with it. I'm not even going to bother looking at prams anymore. Mine is being delivered tomorrow Smile

daisychain76 · 12/06/2012 18:30

I think its a good idea to use Which, Evil, I did that for car seats for DS and DD and the ones I bought have been great (the group 2/3 ones). I got most kicks I've had today sat listening at my daughter's recorder club. Whether it was appreciation or an objection, I'm not too sure!

DesperateHousewife21 · 12/06/2012 18:42

Why wouldn't you buy a second hand car seat if it had no damage to it?

We've had two cars eats, both secondhand, both fine.

SwissArmyWife · 12/06/2012 19:01

Yeah I see no problem with getting a second hand car seat, as long as it isn't damaged.

Evil Have you had a look on ebay for just plain travel systems? You can get them really cheap, in fact the travel system I had for DD (a mothercare one) I got from a carboot for £30!

This time though, we have decided to go for the icandy pear twin, that you can also use as a single. You can get it with a car seat so it will have everything we need, but we're getting it off of ebay. I somehow think i'm going to very much need a double! Bit pricey but i'm not looking at any more bloody pushchairs!

Passmethecrisps · 12/06/2012 19:04

DH I think it's a precaution - you might not know the history and if it is quite old the plastic can start to breakdown. If it is a year or so old and you know its history then you should be fine.

How exciting about all the trips to the big smoke. DH used to live in London so that is where we 'dated'. We also got engaged there over summer so I have developed quite a fondness for the place.

Who talked about peeing? My goodness me I am like a one woman per machine. In bed I need to go every single time I change position. How much wee can there be on there?? I try everything - leaning forward etc but no. Still left with enough to make me get up AGAIN!

I wore heals today for the first time in weeks. Wasn't a great plan TBH. My left hip was very painful. Ah well, back to flats.

I keep my notes in the car. I work 40 miles away from home and about 60 from my hospital. Figured it was a good idea to keep them close by just in case. Not that mine says anything interesting.

Evilwater · 12/06/2012 19:18

DH - I'd love to have second hand one, but I dont know anyone that has one going. My DP found a car seat in the loft left by previous owners, the thing is we have been living in the house for 4-5 years.

Mumsnet jury said no to it. The line that was repeated was "you don't know the history, don't put your child at risk"

I found which best buy for £161. Ok, not cheap but halfords were saying it would cost £300!

I'm stuck on prams, but I'll get one second hand. So much cheaper.

GTbaby · 12/06/2012 20:18

stabiliser15 we have chosen the McLaren XLR.
the carry cot can be used, but is suitable from birth without as well. is under £300 so i think price wise the best i have seen.

QUESTION - McLaren XLR comes in black and cream, however i pref the navy with baby blue trim. we are not finding out if it is a girl or a boy BUT i want the blue regardless of gender. i wouldn't put a boy in the pink version, but ppl i have asked have all said i cant put a girl in a baby blue pram...

i didn't think it would be a big deal, but have asked a few ppl and they have all say go with black...

what is the threads thoughts?

Bluetinkerbell · 12/06/2012 20:23

Scan went fine today :) Baby was spot on for dates 17+2 weeks. Very active, the only thing the consultant noticed was that the stomach was a little on the small side and she noted down to check that out again in 3 weeks time. She also rescheduled my 20 week scan to 2 days earlier so she can do it instead of the normal scan department.
We got 3 lovely pics for DD1 free of charge :)

ShellyBobbs · 12/06/2012 20:37

GT My daughter had my son's old pram which was baby blue with navy, she also had a few of his clothes and hubby dressed her up in (Manchester) City clothes from the go poor thing :) How does it even matter?

Blue Great news, sounds like the sonographer just wants to be on the safe side but doesn't sound too worried. How nice that she wants to check personally, don't think they'd give a stuff at mine to be honest.

Evilwater · 12/06/2012 20:44

Blue I'm glad your scan went well.
Gtbaby- when I was a girl I loved the colour blue, I still do. it's really up to you, are you the kind of person that care what other people think?

Evil

blonderthanred · 12/06/2012 20:46

GT of course you can put a girl baby in a blue pram! Whatever you like most, it's you/DP who will be pushing it.

'Boy' colours/clothes are fairly unisex, it's sad that the other way round doesn't work but even I wouldn't put a boy in a pink sparkly outfit. Unless he requested it of course.

Passmethecrisps · 12/06/2012 20:49

The colour thing is odd isn't it? I am sure I read/heard somewhere that the pink/blue colours used to be the other way around.

Bluetinkerbell · 12/06/2012 20:50

GT when we had DD1 we bought a lot of blue/turquoise stuff as we didn't like all the pink, the people in the shop we're asking are you sure you're having a girl? Hmm
We bought a greyish/black pushchair which we are going to use again, just bought the carrycot on Ebay to go on top of it :)

FatimaLovesBread · 12/06/2012 20:50

We've already got the pushchair so that's one thing of the list. We've gone for the babystyle oyster. Still need to by the carrycot for it though so it can be used from birth.
We've picked the car seat, just waiting for the best offer (and some money)

I think blue is fine whichever sex. My friend got the Sola in the denim blue stripe and she didn't know the sex. Plus ours is purple do could be seen as more girly

Lilliana · 12/06/2012 21:02

I'm going to call the doctors tomorrow as hayfever is a nightmare atm, had a horrible day with it and can't keep on like this. Maybe I'll mention the pain in leg/back then too.

Evil I'm in Devon too but sadly no olympic tickets for us. My sister lives in London though and says they have little badges that people wear on the underground to tell people they are pg and loads give up their seats. (It avoids the whole is she/isn't she phase when people are embarrassed to offer in case they aren't!)

I would put a girl in blue! We love the vista in cream but wondering how practical that is!

Passmethecrisps · 12/06/2012 21:07

Ah, Lillliana, the dreaded nasals! I ended up taking yesterday off as my sinuses were so bad I could hardly lift my head. I had initially thought it was hayfever. Feel MUCH better today but crikey.

I think we are going to go for the vista probably in red/black. DH won't want anything else I reckon. Although I am so intimidated by the whole buying process I can see us just carrying the baby around for months.

blonderthanred · 12/06/2012 21:14

Passme, you are right about the pink/blue thing. I think it may have been on QI.

Elizadoesdolittle · 12/06/2012 21:15

Congrats on all the successful scans that I've missed. And to those that have found out the sex, whether you are having a girl or a boy congratulations!

Re pram colours etc, in my opinion it really doesn't matter what colour you go for. I have the quinny buzz in raccoon/turquise (sp) and a red pushchair. Her trike is yellow and am about to buy a purple scooter. I have never been into the whole pink for girls and blue for boys thing, and like somebody said it did use to be pink for boys and blue for girls. I can't remember how it got changed round.

I dress my DD in whatever colour I please! Mind you having said that she did get called a boy a lot when she was a baby as I used to put her in a lot of red and navy stuff. Although having said that when she was about 6 months someone called her a boy and she was wearing a pink and brown dress and wrapped in a pink blanket so you just can't win!

I'm currently torn as to whether to get a new pushchair. My quinny is fine but I have fallen for the baby jogger city. It's a lot of money for something I don't really need though!
