Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ShellyBobbs · 07/06/2012 23:00

Just looked up that SPD, it fits everything for me and I started with the first signs about 4 weeks ago. Also during my second pregnancy I can remember crossing the road and nearly crying because it hurt so much to walk. It really hurts in bed at night when I move.

No aqua-natal classes anywhere near me, nearest one is about 15 miles away! Think I'll make my own stuff up.

Lilliana · 07/06/2012 23:14

Some of the SPD stuff definately fits :( think I will have a chat with the mw about it when I see her next. Thanks so much for the link notatschool. Until then will do my pg pilates dvd and try to swim regularly and see if that helps. Will cross fingers and hope it has vanised by the time I see her.

Shelly sorry to hear you're suffering, it hurts if I move in bed too which is a pita as I move alot and am not sleeping too well so really not helping.

Izzy the vista is expensive but we live in the middle of nowhere so need something that I can take around town but will also manage the tracks around where we live. If only everyone could agree on which is the best it would make things much easier!

kirrinIsland · 08/06/2012 03:47

horsey I used a sling for ages with DD for walking the dogs and down the yard. We also have a microlite fastfold which is good for offroad - it has large air tyres on the back only, so when the going gets tough you just tilt it. I've found it really good but we don't use it that much, and tbh it is a bit flimsy - fine for what we use it for but perhaps not up to you active lifestyle!? Also, no good as your only pram - doesn't lie flat etc. Other people I know have Phil and teds and love them - that's probably what I'd go for if I was allowed to buy a new pram!

StuntNun · 08/06/2012 06:44

Anyone that thinks they have SPD there are a lot of things you can do to stop it from getting worse. I'm sure there's advice on the Internet but basically you need to keep your knees together as much as possible. When you go upstairs lead with your good leg and put both feet on each step. When you go downstairs lead with your sore leg and put both feet on each step. When getting in and out of bed or the car keep your knees together and swing your legs round together. If you're bending down don't bend over or squat but bend with your knees together at the front.

MissMummy1 where is the house? Your DH should see the place we just bought in Edinburgh. It can be a nice family home but needs EVERYTHING done and a lot of imagination. It also has it's flaws but we think we can be happy there. It's really hard to find the perfect place. I mean if you had infinate money it might be easier or you'd build it but otherwise it;s worth taking the risk sometimes and making it your own and learning to love it!
The flat we are in now is less than perfect and I thought I'd made a mistake buying it, but I love it now and finding it hard to let go already!

mrswee · 08/06/2012 07:11

stuntnun that's very good advise - everyone with PGP or SPD symtoms listen to stuntnun!

I had SPD the last time and it was pretty bad. could not really walk at all in the last few weeks and had crutches which I couldn't use as my upper back was also fecked.
I ended up having to give birth in stirrups too which is a complete no for SPD sufferers but they had to get that baby out somehow... I have lasting damage becuase of that.

If you do Yoga or aqua natal it is very good but be sure to tell the teacher about SPD because some positions are not good and can do damages. Generally wide hip positions but your teacher should know.

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/06/2012 07:24

I haven't even started looking at prams yet, I don't know what I'm going to need, ds will be 2.4 when baby is born. Atm I use a mothercare stroller for him and I've got an enormous graco lie flat pram with big basket for when he was smaller and needed more support.
I want to just use that again but everyone keeps telling me I'll need a double.

notatschool · 08/06/2012 08:30

I'm glad the SPD link was useful, but gutted for you both too - was hoping I was wrong! There are things you can do to help in terms of what StuntNun said, and also physio and belts/girdles that can make it better. I didn't do anything as was only the last few weeks, and it disappeared the straight after baby was born, thank God. MW said to wait a couple of years before ttc again, to give your body a chance to repair itself. No symptoms so far (fingers crossed).

DesperateHousewife I think it depends on the child. DC1 and 2 were still in a buggy at that age, but DC3 has been my best walker by far - she's 2 1/2 and I haven't used a buggy for months. Could you keep your buggy and get a scooter for him? DD2 has been brilliant on hers (but then I pulled DD1 along for a year, she was 4 before she was happy doing it herself! Hmm ).

horseylady · 08/06/2012 08:52

Kirrin thanks!! Yes looking at the slings a girl at work has one I can borrow I think they look brill!! It's just while handling the horses I'd rather not have baby attached for the first few attempts. Yet I think dog walking will be easier in a sling than a buggy to start.

Dh felt the baby move last night. I'm not entirely sure what he was expecting lol but he was a bit like 'is that it? Or you?'

Friday today, I'd like a rain reprieve!!

WestWinger · 08/06/2012 08:52

Hello all! Am away on hols but am trying to keep up with thread as and when I can get on the net.

Just a quick one re the Mothercare My3. That was my first pram with my DD1 and I really liked it apart from one thing that I didn't discover until she was a few months old - they may have changed the design by now (this was 2.5 yrs ago) - but when you adjust the buggy bit to sit upright/recline etc, you push in two side discs and then swivel the seat to the right position which in theory was fab, apart from the fact that with the weight of a child in there it was difficult to control the swing and I trapped my hands and fingers in there almost every time and in the end I had to get rid of it. I was probably just doing it wrong/basically useless but wanted to mention it so anyone thinking of getting one can check it out before they take the plunge.

Hope everyone is well - it's great to read all your news. I am hardy feeling any movements at all and my Doppler is at home - have been very encouraged to read that I'm not alone about the lack of movement sometimes. Something is going on in there, just not very often - could be my extra padding on the tummy area!

Also I definitely feel very preggers now too. Almost waddling around, great big bump sticking out the front, exhausted, walking very slowly everywhere and can barely get my breath most of the time. Not even halfway yet Blush !!

MissMummy1 · 08/06/2012 09:36

mrswee It's in Dalgety Bay so this side of the river. I think he's just put off by the fact it's not new and shiny like our apartment, but compared with a lot of places we've looked at (and most of the flats/houses I lived in whilst at uni!) it's immaculate.

Thanks for the heads up WestWinger will have a look next time we go looking - I never think of the practical things like that lol!

mrswee · 08/06/2012 10:04

I'm a bit jealous of all you pram buyers!

I have a bugaboo bee and I do love it, it's the lightest thing and so easy to swish around town. It's totally rubbish off road though! ok on the grass in the park but that it.

So we also bought a second hand phil and teds sport2 during the bad snow and though it is good off road I am not a fan of it at all.
I think I am spoilt with the light Bee so i find the Sport2 so heavy and clunky. I have the doubles kit with the baby cocoon so was always going to use it as a double but i have had to use it a couple of times recently and with a heavy toddler in it's just not as easy and my DD is small for her age.
I am starting to loath it and thinking of selling it to be honest. But then I won't have a double but DD will be 3..
She may not cope so well with long walks even if she is 3 and I remember going on VERY long walks every day when she was tiny just to get her to sleep.... oh what to do!!?

mrswee · 08/06/2012 10:07

missmummy my DH is very picky normally so I was surprised he wanted to take on this place but I guess he also sees the urgency as soon we will have two kids with nowhere for one of then to sleep beyond our own bedroom.
It's probably why we didn't do it sooner as we are comfortable where we are so we we would have been looking for our dream rather than a place with potential because we have to to do it now not later.

Lilliana · 08/06/2012 10:12

Thanks for the advice stuntnun and mrswee. Will try out all those ideas - it's not too bad yet, just a bit uncomfortable, but don't want it to get worse if I can help it. Still not sure I have it for definate but will be careful until I see the MW. Notatschool hope you escape it this time.

I never think of the practical things either! Has anyone had a vista? Any advice?

DH would a buggy board be an option? Then your DS can walk a bit and ride if he gets tired.

Lilliana · 08/06/2012 10:16

Sorry Mrswee x post but maybe a buggy board could work for you too? Never actually used one but know friends used one when the gap was big enough that they were not sure if they would need a double for long/at all.

daisychain76 · 08/06/2012 10:26

I used a buggy board with DS when DD was born and it was great - got really good use of it too as he still used it when walking to school in reception (all his friends used to want a go too!). I had a double buggy for the 1st 9 months and really hated it - not sure if it was the make (fairly cheap off ebay) but I found it really hard to get in and out of shops and into the house.

Got my pram from my friend last night - it is a Mamma and Pappas sola with car seat and carry cot. Looks really easy to switch from carry cot to push chair and so on. I basically spent all evening drooling over it!

kirrinIsland · 08/06/2012 10:27

DH and mrswee - maybe consider a sling to start with? Then you can buy a double if you find you need one, but haven't wasted a ton of money if you find you don't?

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/06/2012 10:31

I could get a buggy board but not sure he'd stay on it, I mean I won't exactly be going on long walks in nov/ dec time so I think I'm going to wait and see what I need as and when. I've got a pram so if it comes to it either the baby can go in it or ds can and I've got a sling I'm sure ill be ok in the end!

Double buggies are expensive and I'd really like to get away with not using one.
I saw a really good buggy board the other day it had a little seat on it because even standing can make your legs ache which is why I was a bit reluctant to get one because I think ds would want to sit down still.

Iheartpasties · 08/06/2012 11:23

Hi ladies,

I was so keen to go and buy a double pram, but now I'm wondering if I should wait and see and play it by ear? or will I regret that when I want toget out the door and don't have a proper pram?! It will be summer here so we'll want to get out and about no doubt.

we have a long weekend this weekend, because of the queens birthday! I am hoping we get out and about in the car. I am getting my hair cut tomorrow, it's been a long time coming and I can't wait.

ShellyBobbs · 08/06/2012 11:27

Thanks for the info stuntnun and mrswee, sounds awflul Notatschool and like you Lilliana I'm not sure what it is, but when I do climb stairs/steps, get in the car anything that involves weight on one leg (putting pants on, keks etc.) it really hurts, but I thought that was all part and parcel, I put up with it in the last 3 pregnancies which makes me think it's not that because I'm sure I'd be a lot worse. Also there is a joke in there somewhere about keeping your legs closed as much as poss...........Blush

Trying to amuse my 3 today, looks like I'll have to rob a bank and take them to see Men In Black 3 (I want to see it anyway), there goes £30 Shock

Oooh and my lovely hubby cleaned the entire downstairs for me last night, when I got home from work it looked like a show house (I am disgustingly untidy and just don't see mess), put all the folded up clothes away, cleaned and scrubbed all the kitchen even hoovered the settees and my tea was in the oven, the kids were all clean. Wonder what he wants bless him :)

ShellyBobbs · 08/06/2012 11:29

pasties where are you? I presumed you were just in Cornwall, Devon or lived near Greggs with that name :)

Chunkychicken · 08/06/2012 11:39

I've missed loads I'm sure, but I'm probably going to get a double buggy. DD will be 2.7 2 days after the due date and loves walking & would do it more if I let her, but often we're walking too far to let her walk the whole way & holding her hand & pushing the empty buggy is too much like hard work!! I think in the winter I'll want to just bung her in the buggy with the baby, put the blankets/cosy toes on, rain cover on & go. I'll probably be walking less distance overall than I did with DD at first & now, in fact, in the new house, but poor little mite stuck on the back of the buggy on a board in the rain??!! Can't do that... I think I will try to get a cheap and/or eBay bargain and then switch back to ny Britax B-smart buggy & make DD walk as the weather warms up and she approaches 3yo. That's just my idea at the mo though, it'll prob change multiple times!!

I've got the beginnings of SPD. Pain in my right groin/inner hip area. Gets very stiff overnight or walking a long way. It started the other day after lifting & shifting boxes. I had the same with DD but not as early on, but then I wasn't moving house and lifting a toddler... I found that my Dream Genii pillow kept my legs the right distance apart (it hurts a little when my top leg drops to have ny knee resting on the other iyswim, but keeping them parallel helped) and seeing through chiropractor stopped it getting bad. Will try to find a space amongst the boxes to do some gentle stretches and start NCT 'yoga' nxt wk, so that should help. Wish I could just take an ibuprofen though - feel sure that would help with this level of pain but obviously can't...

Have a gd day all :)

Lilliana · 08/06/2012 11:41

Can I borrow your husband Shelly? Mine has been on the isle of man all week drinking and drooling over bikes! He is due home tomorrow but guessing he will be shattered after travelling not sleeping for a week so not much use for anything.

I feel exactly the same as you, putting on pants is my morning torture (OK bit of an exaggeration Grin) You said it was the same for your other pregnancies, does that mean it didn't get worse?

Not much help with the merits of double buggies I'm afraid but a sit down board does sound good - I want one for me!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 08/06/2012 13:02

I am defo going with a double buggy DS will be 2 and 3 months, exactly the same gap as between DD1&2. I found that I needed somewhere where I could make sure DD1 was strapped in and safe if we were out and about and I needed to do something with DD2 like a random feed or nappy change. Or that I could have hands free and not have to have eyes in the back of my head ifi needed to pay for something. I had a Phil and Teds last time and loved it except kept getting punctures because I did actually use it off road. DH would like to go for a Bugaboo Donkey this time as we love our Bugaboo and use it incessantly. I am going to leave the decision in the Engineering corner! As he does trip off out to town with the push chair frequently and he invariably makes good decisions I trust him on this one. (only this one mind!)

Sorry for all of you with the first signs of SPD it must be awful. Luckily so far I have escaped it. Here's hoping........

SwissArmyWife · 08/06/2012 13:17

Think I may have SPD too, it's been getting worse as the weeks go by and this morning when I got out of bed my hips hurt so much I almost crumpled to the floor!
Must talk to MW about it, seeing her on Wednesday.

I am so so so excited about my 20 week scan, 2 weeks and 4 days to go!
It cannot go quick enough, I hate waiting!
Anyone want to place bets on the gender? Grin
Can't believe how quickly it's going this time round too, although i'm sure the last month or so will drag!
Definitely been feeling baba move which has put my mind at rest, am also tempted to order a count the kicks bracelet as my memory is rubbish, anyone else had/have one?
