Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MissMummy1 · 30/05/2012 20:40

Silly question ladies, but just looking for a few opinions. Where do we all stand on dying hair whilst pregnant? I was blonde for ages and dyed mine really dark before we got pregnant. It's now fading to a horrible tinted ginger colour with light roots showing. I always said I wouldn't dye it while we were pregnant and figured the fact I'd gone dark it would be less maintenance etc. How wrong was I?! I always have it done in a salon as I'm too much of a wimp to dye it myself, but just wondered if anyone else did it during pregnancy? I'd much rather wait the next 6 ish months with dingy root-showing hair than risk doing any harm so might need to play it safe and go for a mumsy cut instead!

PS - got our first scan tomorrow at 14 weeks. Soooo excited/nervous!

MissMummy1 · 30/05/2012 20:41

Congrats Evil - how exciting?! V jealous you know already!

MissMummy1 · 30/05/2012 20:54

Oh and don't worry about the name thing, you're not alone - we're weeks off knowing and already I've dismissed all of DH's RIDICULOUS name suggestions!

FuckerSnailInYourHedgerow · 30/05/2012 21:00

Shell - Do you have to have to work tomorrow? With a twisted ankle...ouch:(

Apple -I am another scales avoider, I actualy lost weight with DS, but I was stressed and working 7 days a week, so that may have had something to do with it...No chance of that happening this time round, although I'm currently toilet training DS so running between the toilet and washing machine might have me drop a few pounds.

Evil - Congratulations! Boys are fantastic:) I had been sure that DS was a girl, and we didn't find out the sex at the scan, when he was born I had oooh, 10 seconds of shock, and then I fell in love with him:)

What's this I hear about a FB page? How can I join it?

Evilwater · 30/05/2012 21:05

Now for the names, I think we should have another thread for that alone!
I'm getting used to the idea of having a son. What am I going to teach him? I'm a women!

WestWinger · 30/05/2012 21:15

missmummy I think it's totally fine to dye your hair while pg. I think they warn you that sometimes the colour may come out a bit different but that never happened to me.

Thechick · 30/05/2012 21:16

You can teach him how to be a good man, with dp's help of course and he doesn't need to be anyone but himself and that all of the macho bull$hit is just bull$hit. I wouldn't know what to do with a girl. If I am having a girl there will be no pink or fluffy in my house, no sparkly and none of that screaming that girls seem to do when they get older!!

TheDetective · 30/05/2012 21:20

3 boys 0 girls so far... come on team pink, get a shift on!

TBH, doesn't surprise me. Its been a year for boys this year. Far outweighing the girls!

Congrats Evil I didn't pick up on your hint! Bit slow me!

It's lovely having a boy, honestly, it is. I was so upset first time around, because when they told me it was a boy, I was just like, what am I going to do with a boy?! I had imagined a little girl, to teach to dance, and sing, and to do all kinds of girly things with. As it happens, my boy is far more of a dancer than I could ever imagine! He's got real rhythm in him! I'm much more of a boys girl than a girls girl anyway, but just didn't realise it! I've loved having a son so much, I'm delighted to be having another!

It's just difficult to imagine until they are here what having a son will be like! But you will love it! Boys love their mums. And they answer back faaaaaaaaaaaaaar less Grin

Names wise... what kinda names do you like? We both like biblical names, so we have a little short list. I posted it on here in baby names!

Thechick · 30/05/2012 21:28

I would love another boy!! But the prob means I'm having a girl!

Cacacaz · 30/05/2012 21:29

We have 2 girls so far Detective one of the ladies who is having twins posted that they were both girls ( I can't for the life of me remember her name Blush). I think you were on nights when it was posted, so no doubt missed the announcement Wink

I bought a baby name book, some of the names on it are wacky to say the least, I wouldn't even attempt to pronounce some of the names!

Evilwater · 30/05/2012 21:30

Thanks for all the posts on sons. there is a few names but nothing that jumps up.

I've been reading my Scan report what is a centile?? I have a 5 and 95.

blonderthanred · 30/05/2012 21:32

What lovely positive things to hear about having boys, Det & Chick. I will be happy with either but I hope whichever gender it is I can teach it lots and bring it up with great values. And learn a lot too!

MissMummy1 · 30/05/2012 21:36

As a teacher I have that awful dilema re names of not associating them with horrible brats 'delightful children' I've had in my class in the past. Some of the names these days though are just down right cruel: I had triplets named Hayden, Jayden and Kayden.....

Thechick · 30/05/2012 21:42

All the names I like are quite old fashioned, i don't like like these new modern names and for me I would have to meet the baby before anything is finalised.

Evilwater · 30/05/2012 21:45

So far my DP has called it pepe Jesus. He loves winding me up on names.
Evil

blonderthanred · 30/05/2012 21:53

My brother calls mine Rodrigo.

Chunkychicken · 30/05/2012 21:54

MissMummy I had the exact same issue, but everyone I know who is a teacher has gone for slightly old fashioned names so definitely not ones for the kids we teach - think Ivy, Hattie, Eleanor etc. Come to think of it, we've all had girls. Weird!!!

I find the whole thing about gender fascinating. There was a preg thread about someone being disappointed to be having a boy & so many comments were relating to gender cliches. It made me examine how I feel about gender & try to recall how I felt during my DD's pg. We didn't find out until she was born, so there was no picturing a particular sex/baby in my arms. I guess it was all a bit abstract for me - I'm not really much of a baby person. So by the time she was born, I hadn't got any pre-conceived ideas about what she'd be like or what I would do with her as it were. I mean, she is not a girly girl, she's a tad scruffy & a bit rough & tumble and her favourite DVD at the mo is Toy Story. She isn't quiet or demure or any other girl cliche but then nor am I. I do wonder if, because in my job I see lots of different types of boys & girls, I don't generalize about how girls & boys will be. I mean, there are gentle boys & hard girls... They're all different. Boys often play with guns & girls tend to go for dollies & tea sets, but my nephew plays with a kitchen set & boys at toddler group push the buggies!! I suppose my Dad isn't your usual 'bloke' either so perhaps I didn't have the usual perspective there either?

Anyway, either way, we're not finding out & I'm struggling to imagine having 1 or the other. I kind of hope its a boy, as I have a girl, but equally, can't change it, so happy with a girl. It'll be one or the other though!! Grin

So congratulations Evil you will love your little baby, boy or otherwise, and you will get to know his little foibles & personality traits and you'll forget you ever wondered what you'd teach him :)

Thechick · 30/05/2012 21:56

The names that ds and dh keep coming up with are ridiculous. I'm a little fussy and they don't seem to be, lol. I think we are going to let ds decide on the middle name. Are you guys letting dc get involved with deciding names?

SwissArmyWife · 30/05/2012 22:00

Evil Congratulations!! I did see your pepe post, but for some reason it didn't sink in!

I really hope it's a year for boys, DP wants a boy and as he's the last to carry his family name I think it would mean the world to him.
I'd love one of each Grin Plus we've chosen a boy's name that we both adore yet can't decide on a girl's name.

Typically i'm probably having a girl :) Only a few weeks to go until I find out..!

TheDetective · 30/05/2012 22:10

D'oh! I did see the announcement. But I forgot. Baby brain. Definitely Grin

My favourite name so far (that me and DP agree on!) is Jonah Jacob. We have others in mind though! But I keep calling the bump JJ.... so. Um, it might stick!

Me and DP had a humdinger of a row at 1am last night. Over pillowcases. I was right. I just thought I would clarify that. DP has spent the day trying to win back my affections. I am, however, very hard to get. Hehe! Silly hormonal men ;)

Cacacaz · 30/05/2012 22:26

I'm suffering from baby brain too, I gave s complete inability to string together sentences at the minute Blush

We have 4 names for each sex so far, I do think we are having a boy too! I have a huge list of names that remind me of children I have cared for, in a negative manner. Also most of our friends have children, do there is another list of names that we either couldn't or wouldn't use.

TheDetective · 31/05/2012 00:06

Oh. My. God. This site is mental!

Was accused to of being a troll earlier. Because I posted a thread asking for advice on how to get DP's excessive sweat smell out my fucking new mattress...

Honestly!

Think its time for bed Hmm

Lilliana · 31/05/2012 07:19

Had our 16 wk app yesterday and got to hear the heartbeat which was fab :)

I also have the brats children I've taught problem but atm like Lily and Jacob. (We're not finding out so need to have an option for both)

I told my class yesterday, they are really excited and have been asking all sorts of questions. One child came and suggested in all seriousness that I call the baby Zeus! Grin Grin

DesperateHousewife21 · 31/05/2012 07:20

I think boys generally outweigh girls. At all the baby groups I've been to in the past 2 years it's always been more boys.

I'd love a boy or girl this time I honestly don't mid but I know my mum would love a girl. She's got one granddaughter and 4 grandsons!

Only 9 days til we find out :)

Also I've got a couple of names in mind for a girl but none for a boy yet, but we're keeping the name a secret, I can't even say on here just in case. Anyway we prob won't be able to decide on a name til it's born.

SwissArmyWife · 31/05/2012 08:19

Baby brain is definitely striking over here too, especially when it comes to math!
I feel such an idiot most of the time lol.

Detective Really? A troll? Clearly whoever said that has no idea what they're talking about Grin
How about febreze or something similar?

missmummy As for dying the hair, I think it's safe if you dye it with ammonia free dye after the 12 week mark :)

lilliana Zeus is a great name! Grin Wink

Today I will mostly be doing bugger all, as i'm feeling quite fragile today, with an added side order of getting really pissed off with the noisy and foul mouthed builders that have been outside my house for the last 7 months Angry
