I've just taken the plunge and bought some maternity stuff - was sick of just looking fat! I've found JoJo Maman Bebe and Topshop Maternity to be good, have got size ten stuff which has been a little big but not too bad.

Clarella I am wearing that Topshop dress as I type this! I think it's great and very comfy....it's been super for work. I just wish they did it in more colours!

Queenofsiburbia · 07/06/2012 13:35

spottyteacakes feel for you right now. I felt shocking on tues, had to do lunch with in laws and it was torture. Feeling lots better now.. Am 14 weeks so hopefuwillies over hang in there, it'll be behind u soon!

cod congrats for scan. Mine was last week and very wriggly, too wiggly for neck check, despite trying 3 times! Gotta rely on a blood test instead.

nutella am absolutely LOL at your posts about monkey babies and studs! My puppy was brown and furry & v.cute (that's not a euphemism btw!) so maybe say you got a spaniel?! Also any large studs you have no use for in future, do let me know...

clarella I've discovered if you eat enough strawbs in one go it has the same effect as prunes Wink one punnet minimum.

Btw all, I went to docs and I have shingles. Bizarre! Anyway sounds much much worse than it is and fine for baby.
Pregnancy is "lak a box o' chocolates, you niver know what you're gonna git" (sorry Forrest for dodgy impression)

Queenofsiburbia · 07/06/2012 13:39

hopefuwillies ?????! Meant to be 'hopefully will be'

jojo i am very envious of you being in Shrops, the most lovely county in England and where I pine for stupid suburban south east

mwahmwah · 07/06/2012 14:10

Ooh ladies, wait for this....
My best friend saw a psychic last night. In amongst the normal guff she pipes up: "I see two babies in your life next yr, not your own, but you will see them lots. Their names are Lillia and Noah".
Hmm, you might say - So what???
Well, I am flipping terrified I'm having twins, my friend never told the psychic she knew anyone preg, and, get this, both those names are on my current list of possibles for DC. Lillia is pretty unusual, so it is a big guess.
I am literally bricking it that my scan next week is going to show two little heartbeats instad of a nice manageable one... No way I'd cope with 4 kids! 3 will be a push as it is!

Bought a new buggy for my DS yesterday, micralite superlite, it is too bloody cool. Hoping for some nice buggy-envy on the school run this afternoon!!! This is buggy no. 4 for a 20 month old Blush, I should be highly embarrassed but I'm notWink

minipie · 07/06/2012 14:14

welcome jojo

I think I have a mental block with maternity clothes, just can't get my head round the idea of buying baggy/empire line stuff, I've always worn fitted-waist style outfits! I look at all the maternity gear and think "can't buy that, it'll make me look pregnant"... Confused Grin

kateand2boys · 07/06/2012 14:30

Queen Poor you!! My mom had shingles when ds1 was a baby, do you have the rash that goes around half of your body? Make sure you take care of yourself, lots of resting and being waited on hand and foot by your DH.

Sorry to debunk the myth, but I had horrendous heartburn with ds2 and he was bald as an egg. So maybe your fears for monkey babies are unfounded and you will able to leave the house in the first month Grin

Glad that all the scans are going well Smile I feel very anxious abut mine again.

Congrats to those who've given up smoking, I never have, but it's a real achievment to have quit completely. My dad smoked for 40 years before he quit and found it really hard going.

I'm 35 next week, which feels more like the 'average' age in our area. I was just 26 when I had ds1 and was always the youngest mom. For this one I think I'll be a bit older, but not much. I would have liked to have a third sooner, but sometimes things don't pan out the way you thought. What is handy this time is that when I had ds1 no one I knew had had kids, whereas this time people are offering me all sorts of good stuff at bargain prices.

I'm not ready for maternity clothes yet, still feel like I would be jinxing it somehow. I didn't feel like this before, I bought a whole maternity wardrobe at 9 weeks with ds1. Remember, there's a thriving market for maternity clothes on ebay, so you can pick up bits there and get some of your money back when you're done.

livismum · 07/06/2012 14:38

I'm quite lucky when it comes to maternity stuff, I work for Next and get a uniform allowance to be in current stuff, and I can order maternity range in, got old stuff from previous 2, and my new allowance kicks in at the start of august! Grin

kateand2boys · 07/06/2012 14:38

mwahmwah the chances are someone on this thread will have twins. Maybe you're the one Grin

JoJo welcome to the thread.

Minipie you're supposed to look pregnant because you are!!!!

Clarella · 07/06/2012 14:51

Welcome jojo!

FABULOUS news Cod!

Have bought dress eek - resisted buying wet look leggings. ( it was hard!) ( I don't ever wear anything like that!) (probably will end up getting them 'for womad' !!) Good to hear you like weejo!

I know exactly what you mean about fitted waist stuff. A friend recommended those bump band things so you can undo your trousers and it keeps them up - not tried though.

lol think gut all back to normal thanks! Was worried it was my thyroid again but probably just crap eating. But any excuse to eat strawberries!

Very weird dream I felt baby move - it felt like bubbles but I also had a weird tennis ball like bump coming out to the left if my tummy! Sadly was probably night time wind.

Clarella · 07/06/2012 14:53

Ps am finding charity shops round me very good too - two cheap little flared dresses and feels less naughty!

JoJoB77 · 07/06/2012 15:23

Thanks for the welcomes Smile

Ive just made the fatal mistake of having a 'quick' look on eBay & ive just bid on a maternity dress & ive only gone and won it!

I daren't tell DH as he'll think this will become a common occurance (he's prob right to be fair). Its so easy tho!

Shropshire is indeed a beautiful place Queen, doesnt look very nice out there today tho!

minipie · 07/06/2012 15:32

I know I know kate! just hard to get my head around Smile

Clarella didn't realise the bump band is supposed to keep trousers up. I might give that a go. charity shops a good idea too, I live in a very mummy area so there must be loads of maternity stuff in them!

beccabubbless · 07/06/2012 15:40

brooke i know, ive been getting that quiet often. its just sad because although the preganacy wasnt planned, we were talking about maybe starting to try. its disheartening when people reply to 'im pregnant!!' with 'are you keeping it?' instead of 'congratulations' which would obvs be the first reply if i was 35?!

cookies and cream/ ellie i was a bit worried about the whole meeting other mums thing, becauase although you guys are all lovley, and i havent been judged once in any forum on MN, im aware that real life is different! i actually dont have any 'friends' as such because im a full time carer for my disabled mother, so dont really have a chance to do the things that other people my age do. im going to make a massive effort to make friends before the baby comes, because i dont think its fair on DC!

where did your sis go to meet other mums her age clarella?
minipie living in things with stretchy waist bands! pj's

is anyone else finding that their bellys are feeling really.. tight?! like your horrifically bloated all of the time? is this the start of my bump?!?!?!

welcome jojo!

wejo do you buy maternity clothes in your normal size and they are just bigger or....?

sorry for horribly long post!!

itsMYNutella · 07/06/2012 16:38

Clarella thanks for the bump band tip! My favourite jeans are too tight to sit down in now... perhaps I'll try a bump band.

Although I will take a picture of the sales assistant's face as I walk back into the shop for a refund when if my trousers fall down

itsMYNutella · 07/06/2012 16:39

and hello JoJo!!

itsMYNutella · 07/06/2012 16:42

Damn wish I could edit my posts!
Queen ha ha ha ha hopefuwillies that's brilliant, but I'm not hoping for any more! That's what got me into this state!! (budum tish... )

Now I have to go and ring my Mum to find out just how hairy / bald egg like we were as babies!

SpottyTeacakes · 07/06/2012 17:29

I made it home after a nine and a half hour day in the office with no breaks! Thought I was going to be sick at one point. Will put dinner in (pizza and chipsBlush) and get into bed to wait for dp to come back with dd.

I want to get maternity clothes but know I probably won't need them for at least another two months! By the time november comes I reckon I will be a hermit living in comfy tracksuit bottoms Grin

I think everyone will be getting amazon vouchers for Christmas this year, can anyone actually imagine having the brain power to think of an actual present for someone this year?!

minipie · 07/06/2012 17:37

Ooh good point about christmas presents Spotty! Luckily my family have had a "charity gifts only" policy for the past few years so that should be fairly easy. Anyway, I think our real present to everyone this year is going to be a new small relative Smile whether they wanted one or not Grin.

blackcurrants · 07/06/2012 17:38

Hello everyone - I can't keep up with you chatty lot :)

I have a bunch of maternity clothes left over from 2010, and have worn a few of the shorts and t shirts already - bliss! I have bought two skirts and one shirt ('for work') and will probably not get a lot more. I've got a coat and two pairs of jeans, and as I'm job hunting at the moment I'm pretty much re-using! I haven't tried the jeans on yet - I'm a size smaller than I was last time but I'm not sure it'll make much difference - we'll see if they stay up, I suppose!

I don't exactly need 'maternity' shirts yet, but trousers are getting uncomfortable. That's okay at 11 weeks, right? eek. I wasn't in maternity clothes until nearer 16 weeks last time, but a friend (trying to be comforting!) said "Think about blowing up a balloon for the first time, and then how much easier it is to blow up the second time. That's your uterus."
Erm... okay? :)

WeeJo08 · 07/06/2012 17:43

beccabubbles I have just been buying in my normal size (but in maternity) and it has been fine. They have been a little more roomy but I guess that is to accommodate for when you have a big bump?? I'm not sure really! I was a bit nervous about buying them as I was quite superstitious about it (and am nervous that I've done so before the 12 week scan) but I have to say I feel much more comfy now.

SpottyTeacakes I am going with Amazon wish lists for my nearest and dearest again this year. We did it last year and it worked really well! We set a limit to be spent and then everyone made their own list with a good selection of stuff and then everyone went on and bought. We all got stuff we actually wanted and it didn't cost a fortune because we'd set the limit! :) Also, as we did it quite far in advance it meant that everyone had sort of forgotten what they'd put on their list so it was a surprise anyway! Wink

JoJo Hiya! So what's the dress like? :)

kateand2boys · 07/06/2012 17:47

Becca Your maternity unit will probably run a young mums antenatal class and there might be a young mum's group in your area. Another mum I know who had a baby at 17 runs one now there may be one near you. Don't let people get you down about your age, there shouldn't be a stigma against young parents, just crap ones and there are plenty of those in their thirties.

You buy maternity clothes in your existing size, they have room for the bump to grow into.

Spotty I can't believe you're thinking about Christmas! I usually get ready early and I know I will really have to this year, but I like to wait until after the summer holiday are over. I think I'll have to go with the policy of, if you haven't told me what you want by October, you'll be getting a card.

SpottyTeacakes · 07/06/2012 17:52

Haha sorry kate! It must be the weather, it feels so autumnal!

HoneyMum21 · 07/06/2012 18:04

Minipie / Spotty we were thinking our christmas present to family this year is going to be the new arrival too - i don't think we'll have the cash or inclination for anything else by that point. Who wouldn't want to cuddle lovely warm sicky, pooey, crying little baby?!

We went back for our second go at the nuchal scan this morning. Bump was still uncooperative but she eventually managed to get the measurement she needed after getting me to jump up and down and prodding my tummy around.
COD glad scan went well for you :)

As far as maternity clothes go i found a nice dress in the maternity range at gap for a friends wedding in the summer when i guess i'll need it. I can still get into my jeans as i always wear them really low slung anyway but i have decided i'm going to have to get over my 20 year old hatred of leggings (was forced to wear them far too much as a child) and go with them and long jumpers/tunics for as long as poss. I want to avoid spending too much on stuff that will be no good after bump comes.

I'm getting really worried about how to meet other new mums. After a hideous experience at booking appointment we're considering an independant midwife and i'm not sure if we'll still be able to attend classes if we do that. Also we're moving in a couple of months so will be starting fresh. Little bit worried!

Sorry for mammoth post!

SpottyTeacakes · 07/06/2012 18:06

honey why don't you look into NCT classes? I know lots of people who have made loads of friends through them, I wish I had gone!

You can ask for a different midwife and remember its highly unlikely she will deliver your baby Smile

HoneyMum21 · 07/06/2012 18:14

Thanks Spotty - i'm not worried about her delivering the baby (she told us very firmly she only works 2 days a week and is unlikely to be around much) but she was rude, condescending and tactless, to say the least, at our booking. We've spoken to the supervisor midwife who said to give her another go and if it doesn't work out we can change, but in the meantime we've spoken to an independant who is lovely so if we're trying to work out which way to go.

I have come to the firm conclusion that when it comes to pregnancy people who have been there before LIE. While i was suffering with horrific nausea (no actual sickness but just wishing i could be sick as i thought i'd feel better) and crippling tiredness i was told repeatedly 'it'll all be fine after 12 weeks, you'll feel wonderful'. They LIED!
