Dammit here is the correct link

Zara1984 · 27/05/2012 14:53

I always forget to do this...
27, 18+2, first baby (boy, we think!)

hufflepuffle · 27/05/2012 15:43

Hello all! Hope everyone enjoying some lovely sunshine! Nice to get all the windows and doors open!!! I am having a niggly worry which might sound silly to some but wondering if anyone else having same problem? I am not really gaining weight much. Bump certainly growing and chest expanding greatly. Pre preg I was 70kg but was so unwell for first 14 wks that I dropped down to 66. Now at 20 wks I'm about 68.5. I am eating normally, still unable to stuff myself or anything mad, eating good food to get most out of it. I am 6ft tall and any online calculators say total weight gain will be 11-16 kg!!! Am sure I am fretting unnecessarily, but worrying. Have 20 wk scan tomorrow so hoping to hear that baba and placenta etc growing well. Sorry if anyone gaining madly thinks I'm odd!!!! Blush

Beeblebear · 27/05/2012 17:18

Ahhh, nice quiet morning... Time for a proper catch up.

Yomping , took dh to go see what to expect last night. I thought it had a few really good meaningful parts, and a few good laughs, but iverall lacking in story line. Amd seriously how old is cameron diaz! Or is it just all that plasic surgery makes her look more like 50 than 40?

Weighing in on belly butyons. Mine is definately getting shallower, and oddly streatching sideways so that it looks like a squashed doughnut. I'm interested to find out if I get a super bellybutton power when it pops. It.s liely to be something useless like turning invisible when nobody else is around.

Squid- good to book the shpw ! You can always change your mind later if you are not up to it, or have had ur baby! I admire your gusto. I walk 10 min to work every day, and I can already feel myself getting a bit more winded each week, and I don't even walk fast. Could be minute changes in my mild asthma though, or this semi-lingering cold.

Akmd. I.m glad I.m not tne only one with a drama queen sil. I.m sure she is going to gloat big time if she is having a girl, or sulk if it.s a third boy. And she is a person who posts every little fight she has on facebook, but rarely says anything nice about my bro. Drives me crazy!

Zara , glad you got checked out! Best not to stress!

Oh and a bit if an update on the gender thing... Finally wrappec my head around it. I wanted a girl for selfish reasons. I never had a sister or any girl cousins, so I wanted a girl to have that special girl-girl relationship. I guess that is what I have with my mom now that i'm not a rotten teenager

Besides I grew up with all boys, and hated boing the only girl (so far all grandbabis boys so that's what "she" would have been getting into. Then I thought I didn't know what to do with boys, but I babysat all my little boy cousins... So I guess I do. PLUS I went for a bit of shopping therapy, and bought 3 little boy things that are super cute! So overall, getting excited for our little boy.

Now the name fun begins. I'm not sure my dh should hold that responsibility based on his suggestions so far. He is picking mostly pet or movie names!

#1 Maximus (max is my aunts dog)
#2 Hawk (from hawkeye on the avengers)
#3 Hunter (our friends dogs name)
#4 Shadow (my old cats name)
#5 Lukas aka Luke (as in skywalker)
#6 Markus (not sue where this came from, but not bad)

My list
#1 Alexander aka Alex (vetoed by dh)
#2 Elliott
#3 Arthur
#4 Cole ( this one jums off and on my list depending on the week)#
#5 Jasper
#6 Simon
#7 Grayson

Anyone care to weigh in on names?

Beeblebear · 27/05/2012 17:23

Oh and huffle puffle. I gained about 10 lb in the first 17 weeks, and have lost 3-4 of those in the last 2 weeks, but everything checked out fine with baby, and bump as still growing oddly.

Kyyria · 27/05/2012 18:55

Well, have had a busy day. Box room emptied, painted (cool green colour) and cot built so feel like we've achieved a fair bit. Still a final clear up and finishing touches needed but it looks decent Grin

Now I need to find a home for all the crap we've emptied out if there to be able to turn it into a nursery (DH had to climb over it to get into bed last night) Confused [embarrassed]

I know we're probably jumping the gun (only 18 wks today) but wanted to make a start whilst I was still able to help DH. I don't advise the constant bending over to dip your brush though - I did have a few lightheaded moments from doing that too much!

Congrats Zara on your boy!!:) & also to Angelico for your grown up proper book taking shape :) Wine all round!! Let us know when it's going to be released for the rest of us to buy in a shop & everything!!

I am having cankle trouble too & it is quite hideous had a busy few days with work & other things that have been booked in the diary & they are constantly puffed up even if I've only been on them for a couple of hours. Is anyone else noticing how quickly they blow up?

Lot's more movement which is nice but will be lovely for DP when all the shuffling round can be felt on the outside, dont they miss out on lots really?? Have also decided to defo find out if we'll have a pink or blue come scan day this Thurs so think that will be great to know as really struggling to find non specific clothes it's either too girly or too boyish so looking forward to being able to go out & shop!!!

WantAnOrange · 27/05/2012 19:25

Beeblebear I like Alexander and Arthur from your list. I like Marcus too but tell DH to spell it properly! Unless you don't live in UK of course, in which ignore me!

Kyyria that sounds very productive for a Sunday.

I've been to my cousin's 7th birthday party today. Had a lovely time apart from one hairy moment where my 13 week old goddaughter was being fed chocolate Angry. I had to really bite my tongue! Sad thing is, offending relative has offered to babysit for me when back at college and now I'm thinking NO WAY! Maybe that's OTT?

squidkid · 27/05/2012 20:39

Heh, I like Beeblebear's husband's computer-games names, that's really funny. My nephew's name is Arthur - a lovely strong old-fashioned name. I also like Alex, but boyfriend has shouted me down on that one. I'm not so keen on Jasper or Grayson - a little precious for my liking.

Names are really tricky! Personally I don't like posh names or complicated names or middle names or unusual/made up names. And I really don't like what I consider "girly" names - Annabelle, Olivia, delicate princessy names. I like strong, punchy, preferably one-syllable names.

Boys are so much easier and am still hoping for a boy really... it will definitely be

Robert (love the name Rob)
or James (we will call him Jamie)

Girls, impossible:

Jess (will almost definitely call baby this if it's a girl and if my midwife mate Jess makes it to the birth which she is hoping to do, also love the name, but probably won't if she's not there, obviously haven't told her this!!!)
Jaime (I like this, but I worry it sounds a bit american?)
Cat/Caty (Catherine) (Also my mum's name so she will be touched - Catherine is a great all-purpose name with lots of excellent nicknames - Cat, Caty, Cathy, Cath - my mum goes by Tat!)
Meg (originally a forerunner, now I've gone off it)

Also just started to consider:
Hannah
Natalie

Boyfriend's surname is James but baby will have my surname so that is why we quite like James/Jamie/Jaime as a first name, to shut up all the people who think kid should have his name :)

I wanted to call a girl Lucy after my friend Lucy who very sadly died when we were 26, but my best friend who is due 2 months before me is calling her daughter this (she knows it's a girl) and it would just be confusing...

Generally I don't like unusual girls names... but I like the name Scout... but I'm sure everyone would hate it. Basically as a kid I looked exactly like <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.com/search?www.google.com/search?hl=en&qe=c2NvdXQgdG8g&qesig=gbbc4A_j_XMHV9alaZWmAw&pkc=AFgZ2tlZ7_ftGtl15l5prcM2573k40oEct-Ns_KlPmfSGyFRTf2bLPjOhFnBI08UleSJ8mbtYsp5ztNaFiUCqhdi0XNX6eU8wA&cp=9&gs_id=y&xhr=t&q=scout+to+kill+a+mockingbird&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&biw=1278&bih=601&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=-oDCT-zxJKKX0QWM-uibCg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Scout from To Kill a Mockingbird and it's totally un-girly, but yeah, I've dismissed it now as too weird. Possibly if I had already had two kids with dead normal names I would consider it for a third child!

Ooh, I feel a bit vulnerable telling people about names - we've kept pretty quiet about them. Thankfully me and boyfriend like quite similar names.

squidkid · 27/05/2012 20:51

Zara very glad to hear all is ok. I've had quite a bit more discharge during pregnancy but nothing as scary as a "gush". It can be pretty normal though I think! And huge congratulations on having a boy, how cool.

Thanks for the running advice everyone! I'll try a couple of short runs before I sign up. And yeah I'm excited about the gig - it's a seated one and only 15 mins walk from home so should be fine really. I'm sure if I go into labour early I'll be far to delighted about that than upset about missing it!

hufflepuffle Your weight doesn't really bear much relation to what's going on with the baby - don't worry about it. I'm not as tall/slim as you but I am still quite "neat" for nearly 23 weeks and have only got bigger in the bump area. I don't look pregnant at all unless my clothes are closely fitted. I think this is mostly a good thing. Means keeping active is a lot easier! I don't know how much weight I've put on, I don't think it's very relevant. Good luck with your scan - sure it will be fine - I felt I was too small a few weeks back and did worry a bit but I've felt fine since babysquid started kicking loads. I think I'm incubating a boxer.

MickeyTheShortOne · 27/05/2012 21:01

Hi everyone. Promise I have read all your posts, but they've all flown in and out of my head without leaving the slightest trace of memory behind... but congratulations to all those with scan results, hello to newcomers, and sympathy to those having a hard time.
The weather is absolutely incredible here and I've had a lovely (rare) day off with DP and its been wonderful.. have also dtd three nights in a row, hooray for new found energy!!!
Agreeing with the complaints about unwanted advice. Everyone acts as if its going to kill you off but really and truly i am so looking forward to it, yes I know it will be hard work but it really really will be worth it!! Whats the most hilarious piece of advice you have been given? My "boss" told me I should be drinking two pints of milk a day. Two pints a day?! I am either woefully ignorant (and shall remain so, I can't drink milk and I never have been able too) or she really is, full of shit.

Joining in the name conversation... Beeblebear we have Cole, and Jasper on our list too. It will almost definately be Jasper though as it really has taken hold of us and all our family and friends too. DP really did want to call it Max after his pet dog (that died suddenly four years ago) which I totally understand, but we already have a Max in the family who is really quite a close relative and is only 2yo, so we compromised and are giving it Max as a middle name if its a boy, and Maxie as a middle name for a girl. I know other people might not understand but it was important to him (and also means i get dibs on the first name) and so therefore important to me. For a girl we are thinking Lola or Esme... or Lily but that is becoming very common now and it changes every week!!

Had 16wk appointment with the midwife and heard bubba's very strong heartbeat, it was so lovely. I am also feeling it moving more and more (especiallly when I'm eating, anyone else?) and its great. Everything under my bely button is uterus now and it feels so wierd!!!
love and hugs and glorius sun tans to you all !! xx

squidkid · 27/05/2012 21:22

lisbethsopposite Thanks for your post. That's everything I'm looking forward to and it's so lovely to hear. Except I prefer the Lou Reed version Grin

squidkid · 27/05/2012 21:27

Beccus I hope you manage to take the whole year off too. I am very lucky and can probably manage it financially. I get a lot of negative comments about my career, but people have different priorities. I love the idea of the summer of 2013 too. When baby squid is a little older and can play.

Also I started antenatal yoga at 15 weeks and it's been really useful, relaxing and strengthening, I've got much better at it in just 7 weeks and feel it's really helped my mental state and my feelings towards labour and birth, if not necessarily my fitness. I did a lot of swimming in the first trimester, doing more hiking in the second. I do miss weights and running, but I am a lot more tired than I used to be and there's only so many hours in a week.

Right I am really going to stop writing now before you pelt me off the forum with tomatoes Grin

hufflepuffle · 27/05/2012 21:36

Thank you beeblebear and squidkid for reassurance. I know that i am really only winding myself up unneccessarily! Should listen to my own advice and stop googling things! Not feeling any moving yet, but midwife said that is ok for first baby, especially as having a tall torso gives it lots of room! So i shall be content and hopefully scan tmrw reassures me more. Oh and i will add to everyone else about the annoying advice! I love to sleep. And for first 3 mnths i had to sleep about 10 hrs at least to function, and i did. And everyone finds this hilarious! "oh enjoy it while you can because you'll know all about it when baby comes!" Yes. We are v aware that babies do not sleep all night, but hello!! We are looking forward to having a child and all it brings!! And i am self employed and work long hours, do not start me on advice i am getting about that!!
Keep well all, xx

Evening peeps! Another fab, sunny day - quite groggy with heat here so bed soon. Is anyone else loving all things icy? Iced water, ice lollies, slush puppies etc etc. Can't get enough!

Thanks WantanOrange and Gucci - I don't feel grown up at all but do feel less insane knowing it will be a proper book, not just drivel on my computer :o

Congrats AKMD and Zara on scans - sorry you had such a scare Zara but at least the unofficial gender scan hopefully softened the blow :) Thanks

Squid I think it's great you're feeling so active and energetic and if you can go to the gig then more power to you and the squidlet - start 'em young I say! :o The yoga sounds good, I've been trying to find out about a pre-natal yoga or pilates class as apparently they're very good if you're having a section for helping everything stay strong and flexible.

Beccus taking a year maternity leave sounds great - that's what I'm planning tbh, even though I will miss the money. Book advance will help but tbh main savings will be transport and also being able to buy / cook more and not waste food / eat out / throw food out etc. Looking forward to having some domestic time and bean time. Just want to go to park, go swimming, mum and baby groups etc :)

Kyyria - I am in awe of your nursery related activities! :) While you painted and did useful stuff I lay on a sunbed under a parasol like Jabba the Hutt all afternoon Blush - although Gucci - the lying thing really does help the cankles, that and wearing flipflops rather than strappy shoes.

Huffle you sound grand, especially with the tall torso thing. I have the world's shortest torso, hence feeling movements so early on and I still feel them very low down - think the bean just loves that bladder as a pillow Confused

Lisbeth and Mickey - on unsolicited advice - got my first bit on Friday and was SO PLEASED!!! lol It was a nice elderly lady who saw me enjoying a cup of tea in the sun and told me to watch I didn't get too much on the back of my head. Thanked her very politely, thrilled at her recognition of my pregnantness! Not sure why I was so thrilled as was wearing a maternity vest which made bump look like a beachball, so hardly a secret... :)

Must collapse into bed here, night all x

Midgetm · 27/05/2012 22:45

Just wanted to pop on and say...

Huffle I've not put on much and was a little worried about it but the midwife said it was totally fine when I asked her last week. She said what had gone on was in the right places. Just mention it to your midwife next time you see them. I seem to be making up for lost time though and I am now eating like a monster.

Angelico Hooray for your proper grown up book. Feel all proud of you just through this thread - almost like I am clever and creative by default. I feel for any cankle sufferers. I had hideous cankles with DD. Seriously huge and eventually painful too. Really hoping that they stay away this time. I was so swollen all I could wear was Birkenstocks because they were adjustable. Oh the pain and the shame!

Not got as much sun today as I would have liked because of stinking work and job applications. Another tough week ahead and all I really want to do is sit and stroke my belly and think about being up the duff. Life is a bitch sometimes. How the hell am I going to focus for the next 20 weeks?

Night night all.

Beeblebear · 28/05/2012 01:38

Mickey, how funny that we have a few of the same names in our lists. I'm also resigning Maximus to the middle name...thought I might ask him if he would want to save that as an option for possible dc#2.

Zoeplankton · 28/05/2012 09:16

Hi all,

Haven't had the chance to read the back catalogue, just popping in with a question - can anyone recommend decent pants?!?

I'm looking for pants that DON'T come up to my belly button, but DO cover my bum. Properly. Enough fabric to cover the full 'round' of the thing, if you like. But not those annoying square shorts.

It seems that every pants maker in the world (yes, you too M&S) thinks ladies actively want their pants to ride up along their bum cheek... ARGH!

(and btw if you ever thought pants did this because you're carrying too much weight on your backside, just know this - they do it to me and I've only recently graduated from size six-eight. Stupid pants.)

HaggisNeepsTatties · 28/05/2012 11:24

Hi All,

I have read everyone's posts, but it has all gone completely out of my head!
Welcome new comers, congratulations everyone who has had scans and love to anyone who's having, pain, concerns on generally just feeling under the weather.

We had a fantastic weekend up in Scotland but was exhausting with a wedding and an engagement party on consecutive days. I did my first very hormonal pregnant thing. At the engagement party I was exhausted by about 11pm and had been saying to DH for about the last 30 minutes that I wanted to go soon. I felt like he was ignoring me (and taking forever to finish his pint that he'd said we could go when he finished) and I burst into exhausted tears in front of everyone. Was so embarrassing!

In better news we had our scan this morning! All okay (though baby is "generally on the big side"! Shock ). We've not found out the flavour...want to keep that a surprise for when he or she arrives. Saw little haggis yawning and rubbing its eyes, and generally wriggling around, made me very emotional!

Hope everyone is well x

Ha ha Zoeplankton! I too would love an answer th the pants question! And not even just for pregnancy, altho i now find every pair is pushing up where pants should not have been and DH is laughing at me poking my bum again.....! I hate (no, despise) thongs but marvel at how the heck you are supposed to have no VPL without them (I refuse to wear and thus rarely wear tight trousers) I have succummed to wearing M&S low rise shorts all the time, they are best compromise. I am a size 10-12 but buy pants in 14+ so they dont stick in to any flesh I might have, but still not great. Bought a pack of maternity pants in 14 from last Next directory sale. Must say, not bad. Well under belybutton and reasonable cheek coverage, but still i'm a poking!!

Anyone's discovery welcome here too please!

hufflepuffle · 28/05/2012 14:59

Oh and apologies, i cannot see how to make name of person I am replying to stand out in BOLD! And thank you again for any further comments on the weight issue. I really am just being a noonoo.

re: Pants - I have some mat pants that are under bump, and some that have the band that go way up PAST my belly button... and I have to say I like the belly band ones way better. they stay up and don't go all baggy bottom on me. It took about 3 days to get used to the fabric on my mid section , but now it feels oddly comforting.
