Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YompingJo · 18/07/2012 20:24

I did not turn the word eBay into a link, and these are appearing everywhere at the moment. Grr Angry

squidkid · 18/07/2012 20:30

I've tried to catch up but I'm sure I've missed lots of people, apologies if that's you...

Yomping my thoughts with your friend, that's very sad... I know what you mean about it really knocking you when it's a friend, your own age... I lost a mate at 26 to skin cancer, it took me a long time to come to terms with that. I hope your friend does very well, though it is sad to hear she doesn't have the option of pregnancy any more.

hufflepuffle does he snore on his front as well? I know someone who used to tie a sharp pokey object to her husband's back so if he rolled on his back he rolled straight back...

elpis ha, I like the swimming pool comment! And my due date is very nearly the same as yours, 25 sept! Am sure will not be the first to deliver though! Boyfriend thinks 10 weeks is scarily soon, it feels endless to me!

smorgs and others - am very sympathetic to you moving house! A lady in my pregnancy yoga class is 39 weeks and moving at the weekend Confused

WantanORange So sorry to hear about the school. It does sound like they're not giving him the support he needs.. it sounds like you do so much, but parents can't do everything.

Loopyla i like my nookie, and I like boy on top too, we are still managing that fine with a pillow under the hips and a few giggles, him kneeling more than missionary I guess. I feel hefty on top. i dunno how long this will last though.. i do creative things with cushions and stay comfy! (lazy squid!)

Other things - I didn't realise I was having braxton hicks but thinking about it I have been having times when things go very tight - doesn't hurt though. hmmm, perhaps. were people talking about lady-gardens the other day... I am still managing to trim mine (I like some hair down there) but I have booked myself a leg & bikini-line wax for the weekend so they can sort it out properly. Has anyone else noticed the hair on their legs has actually got softer/finer? I am pale skinned/dark haired so it's quite strange for me! I normally wax my legs about every 4-5 weeks but it's been a couple of months and you could see it if you looked closely but it feels very soft and inoffensive. Possibly the great british summer has contributed to me not caring though! Wow this whole thread is TMI isn't it.

Today at work was extremely busy but I managed. Felt a bit faint and exhausted by 4pm but managed till then. SIX. DAYS. LEFT.

OH and one more thing, is anyone having problems eating, like the food doesn't fit in their stomach any more? I am hungry but can only manage small salads and the like. It's not heartburn I'm getting, there's just not enough space! Only 10 weeks to go and not too unhappy with pregnant body (actually rather like it naked) so hoping the last stretch doesn't completely ruin my self-esteem! we'll see. Everyone I've met lately who's had kids seems skinnier post-pregnancy than pre-pregnancy, I can't decide if this is hopeful or irritating. Wink

Zoeplankton · 18/07/2012 22:57

squid, the day you get out of that dreadful place, I will drink a toast to you.

Cherrychopsticks · 19/07/2012 03:28

Phew, got back last night from a few days holiday in Hong Kong and it's taken me ages to catch up - You've all been very busy!

Had a fantastic time, hotel was great (Hotel Icon, would totally recommend if anyone's thinking of going), lots of sightseeing and walking, way too much eating, stocked up on Heinz baked beans and bought some baby basics from M&S, neither of which we have here in Japan.

It was really hot and humid there, but luckily we hardly had any rain even though it was supposed to be rainy season. Back in Japan, our rainy season seems to have ended while we were away and now it's just burning hot.

Unfortunately, have come back with a bit of a tummy bug/possible food poisoning, so have had to call in sick to work today for the first time in forever, definitely since being pregnant. Had no choice, can't stray too far from the toilet! Blush

Yomping, so sorry about your friend, I can't imagine much worse. But you really do sound like a great friend to help her through this. Take care of yourself through it all too. And others are right - hopefully new, previously unthought of family options will arise in the future. Thanks

Crazypaving, love the new nn, will take a while to get used to though. And thanks for filling me in re. letting-down reflex.

Zara, v Envy about Sardinia, enjoy!

Squid, my MIL is similar in failing to appreciate my actual taste and will no doubt be buying all sorts of glamorous, glitzy, overpriced stuff. She means well, but sometimes I worry about losing "me", IYSWIM? Oh well, I'll just do my best to use it when only she can see! Wink
Good on your parents for offering practical help rather than material goods. Thankfully MIL has done this too, so I can't complain.
Oh, and I hope the last 2 weeks at work pass quickly and painlessly. Grin

Wantan, sorry about your son's school situation, sounds rubbish. I have no experience and therefore no practical advice, just hope you find a suitable solution soon. Thanks

Angelico, with you on the heartburn! It's my only pregnancy symptom really, but when it's bad it's awful! My parents sent me some Gaviscon Double Action, which seems to do the trick for a while, but I don't have much so I'm rationing it. Just brought a bottle back from Hong Kong, not double-action though, so hoping it'll still work.

I actually really like the "swimming pool" analogy with respect to baby's movements. I seem to have a very active one and often think it feels and looks like it's swimming around in there! So definitely not going to start worrying about position just yet, but no idea when they start getting too big to move around much, so not really any help to those that are further along, sorry.

If anyone's still looking for good maternity bras, I bought an amazing one from H&M the other day, which I swear is the most comfortable bra I've ever worn, yet still supportive. Please note, though I've had significant pregnancy growth, I'll never be considered huge in that department, so not sure how you more generously-proportioned women will fare!
Also, I managed to cut up customise my Elle McPherson ones to make them far more comfortable and less irritating. So all good in the bra hood these days Grin

My brain is going to explode if I write anymore, and I'm sure your ears/eyes are bleeding by now. Sorry if I missed you out, "hi" to all those not mentioned.

hufflepuffle · 19/07/2012 07:53

Squid Front, back, side, sitting up. Think he would still snore if head in bucket of water.......... Hmmmm perhaps I should try that...... X
Ps, so glad u nearly finished work!!!!!!! 11 weeks for moi. Sad

isheisnthe · 19/07/2012 08:03

Hi all, not been on here for such a long time, hope everyone is well? I have been told I'm having a girl, after 3 boys I don't really believe them but will wait and see, I wasn't bothered either way! Diabetes check for me today, just drank the disgusting fluid and now fell v v v sick :0(

CWest30 · 19/07/2012 08:12

OMG can life get any more crazy for someone who is 6 months pregnant??!!

Demanded I had a days holiday today as tomorrow iv got a 6 hr all round trip to Norwich and back. My after school club was granted some funding from Children in Need, so me and the senior fundraising manager have got to go and pick up the cheque. I wasn't overly keen at first, but management basically said there was no one else, since I know the most about the childcare side of it all. So iv agreed to go, hopefully ill be ok as ill be sitting on my backside all day, just not looking forward to being at the train station at 5.45 in the morning, and not arriving back til 10pm!
Plus when DS goes to bed tonight, I won't see him until sat morning. :-(
Well, had an offer accepted on another house on Tuesday, hopefully the survey won't throw up any nasties this time! On the face of it it looks fine, been kept in good condition, great size bedrooms and garden, and there's a huge workshop at the end of the garden for DH to store his fishing kit and man toys. The guy that already lives there had a tv, fridge and everything out there, I thought DH was going to combust when he saw it! We are just praying nothing goes wrong this time, we are both completely in love with it. We are moving out of our flat and in with my parents next week, and the sellers are moving into rented accomadation so hopefully we will be in before baby arrives!
Had a letter yesterday, got a growth scan on 14 August, I get to see bean again yay!
Souch going on phew! Hope everyone else is well Xx

hufflepuffle · 19/07/2012 08:46

Holy moly! Not having so much movements this morning as massive lurching! Feels enough force to make me fall over!!! Is this the stage where we start to feel like there's an alien in there????! Oh had thadistort of shaky jumpy baby thing for about 3 mins before I got up, glad I read some of u having a week or 2 back. Oomph! Another lurch!! Flip. Shock

LoopyLa · 19/07/2012 09:24

Zoe/squid I also think we should have a party in honour of squid, she's been a trooper!! Lots of Biscuit and maybe a cheeky drop of Wine?!?

huffle I also have 11 looooooooong weeks, sort of counting down but also shit scared of the fact there's a baby coming approximately 3 weeks afterwards Shock

Are there any general 'childbirth/newborn' books out there worth getting? Not just focused on one thing?

LoopyLa · 19/07/2012 09:26

And forgot to mention squid I also have a tight feeling after eating too much now, need to eat smaller portions for me I think!! and step away from the puddings at work, you lard arse (me, not squid, obviously) Grin

35, 25+4, dc#1

Angelico · 19/07/2012 11:13

Hey ladies. I need a few lines to gripe about the un-glamour that is my life. Was I schmozzling about at a swanky partay last night looking all cool and writerly, sipping champagne? Oh no! I was standing for hours in new house agonising over a floor colour, then came home about nine and ate a fish supper while nursing my fat, swollen feet Confused If we all end up with a post-natal thread and I mention doing renovations in like 5 years time - threaten me with violence! DON'T LET ME DO IT!!!

Crazy def change MW if you can - my sister did it as she had a real bitch in first pregnancy and got landed with her this time round. Che changed. Life is too short :o

Wantan sorry about your school probs :( Have you tried posting over in Primary Education or even the special needs threads? There are some amazingly knowledgeable and supportive ladies who will be able to give you brill advice (I've seen some of the threads when they pop up in 'most active'). Think a lot of the ladies on this board are first timers or have kids younger than your DS so we probably aren't much practical help. Some Thanks for you though - it sounds like they suck :(

Squid - you are so nearly there... You can do it! :)

Zara have major holiday envy! Enjoy! :o

Beccus I must try and find out about the yoga. I do worry it might be too much for me as sometimes I swear I can feel my pubic bones kind of moving apart (going left and right). I have visions of me doing some pose and just splitting in half! Confused

Yomping really glad your friend has had her surgery - some Thanks and positive vibes for her recovery!

Elpis like the swimming pool description! :) Bean has been madly active for the last few days, hammering away at me at times, occasionally painfully! I have quite a short torso so hoping she doesn't run out of room too soon. She's bobbling and punching away at the minute...!

Huffle how is the house stuff going? And try not to smother your DH however tempting not sure they accept pregnancy hormones as an excuse... Wink

Smorgs the ligament pains are crap aren't they? Mine are like yours - wildly unpredictable. Supposed to be going to one of those 'Peace Camp' art installation things tomorrow night and had to pick the one on a flat beach rather than one down a cliff path to a different beach - had visions of me crawling back up on hands and knees!

I am interrupting this mammoth post for a loo stop. I shall return! :o (We really do talk FAR too much on this board :o :o :o)

Cherrychopsticks · 19/07/2012 11:55

Good luck with the house CWest, it sounds perfect! Got my fingers crossed for you.

Londonmrss · 19/07/2012 11:57

Is everyone still feeling uncomfortable after eating? If I have a big evening meal, I get terrible pains in my back, just underneath my shoulder blade. Was in agony last night so ended up having a bath to ease it at about 1am. That'll teach me for being a piggy. Small meals for me from now on- a bit difficult when I'm so greedy hungry.

Zoeplankton · 19/07/2012 12:50

londonmrs - yes, totally. My brain is hungrier than my tummy can cope with - I get conflicting signals! :S

I end up getting exhausted during the day, eating a very big dinner, and then I'm all chipper and full of energy but also full & uncomfortable for bed time...

I haven't booked for yoga classes, haven't started NCT, gym membership has lapsed so no swimming, can't remember how to do a pelvic floor exercise, I'm behind with the midwife (like a muppet, forgot my last appointment), don't have a buggy or a change table or an anything... sigh.

Starting to feel a weensy bit overwhelmed. As long as I don't think about how much there is to do, I don't need to do it, right?

Right?

Angelico - I REALLY feel for you, missing all the fun stuff. Really I do. I've perhaps been pushing it a bit much recently - I skipped last weekend completely to do a half-work-half-fun event, which was great but totally wiped me out for the whole week. I think 'taking it easy on yourself SUCKS because it's easy to picture the thing you missed out on, but really hard to picture the thing you gained - i.e. not being completely wiped out (and only being normal level, i.e. very, wiped out instead!)

If I were you I would feel super-grumpy. The fact that you made the right call doesn't make it any less engrumpenating.

And we just finished our downstairs bathroom and had the kitchen retiled - I FEEL YOUR PAIN. When you're feeling glum, thing of me and my un-flat-kitchen-tiles-that-I-can't-get-fixed and you should feel a little better.

Now we just need to get the phone line rewired, loft insulation installed, the carpets replaced, and three rooms painted before the baby arrives... yeah no problem...

In other news I backed the car into a deceptively large and stationary pole.

It looks like a normal dent, but the boot won't open properly any more and aapparently, it's sufficiently bad that it will cost more to fix than the car is actually worth.

Shock

Great timing, hey?

Londonmrss · 19/07/2012 14:30

Just found this book on the tinterweb. Am quite tempted...

LoopyLa · 19/07/2012 16:26

Oh *LondonMrss this is the kind of thing I'm after.I've spotted it @£8.16 on ebay (secondhand bookseller).

Tempted too... Smile

LoopyLa · 19/07/2012 16:31

I'm also wondering if the Mumsnet books (pregnancy & babies) books could be worth getting also?

Londonmrss · 19/07/2012 16:50

Right, I've bought that book- I'm fed up of attempting to be rational amidst pregnancy paranoia, so having some scientific evidence to stop the paranoia seems to be the way forward. I shall report back, ladies!

Zara1984 · 19/07/2012 17:15

Mumsnet pregnancy book is hilarious and full of straightforward useful info!! It's the only one I've been reading really. Am going to get the baby one too.

Felt a bit lightheaded when I read that 70% of women tear during childbirth though Confused

Yeah I'm starting to get silly paranoia too.... have been worrying about the most stupid things.

lisbethsopposite · 19/07/2012 20:03

The Mumsnet books are great - they are actually how I came across MN. I've gotten them from the library. They are SO sensible but full of humour. I currently have the pregnancy one and the toddler one checked out. They are really good for a 5 min read before sleep.

I think we are near the end of this thread capacity, could one of you technophiles start a new one and post a link? I am not capable.

Beccus · 19/07/2012 22:13

Hi All, v. reassuring i am not the only one who can't stuff themselves silly anymore. Saw mw today and had to gobble down the lucozade and struggled not to burp and belch loudly in the busy waiting room. Apparently my uterus is all the way up to where my ribs join in the middle at the front - no wonder there is no room for 3 courses any more!!! God knows where the rest of my organs are. Baby is apparently head down, so it seems what i thought were kicks low down must be punches... b/f will be disappointed that there's not a premiership player in there after all :)

Had the yoga teacher to myself last nite! It was so good, we spent the class focusing on opening my chest so it can accomodate all those squished up organs and to compensate for my crappy hunched posture, and relaxing after a stressful day at work. Angelico, as long as you listen to your body and take the class easy, you're very unlikey to 'split' :)

zoe and angelico, aren't rennovcations just the best...not!!! I cooked my 1st meal in my new kitchen today after 7 weeks of miscrowave meals and takeouts.... i do love my new kitchen, but we still have a shell of a room that will one day be a bathroom, a tempoarly floor of cardboard throughout the flat that I will be competely suprised if i dont trip over at some point, half a painted job and various other random, unfinsished jobs. No chance of it being done in time for bean.

I too have had bean spasms - thanks for the heads up about them. They are very odd!!

Is squid our first mat leave mummy? How exciting!! Agree with Loopy, we should have a party everytime someone finshes work :)

I vote for yomping to start us off on a new thread, she is a mn guru, and i bet she knows how to do it. . Thinking of you and your friend

YompingJo · 20/07/2012 06:34

I can still stuff myself silly (I've always been a late developer!) but I did overdo it a bit last night, DH made Jamie Oliver's meatballs and they are gorgeous! Had double what I needed to, oops...

ZoePlankton, sounds like you really need a Wine or a large Brew. Commiserations on the car and on the house stuff. It will all get done, just probably doesn't feel like it today.

New thread is here, I tried to give it a funky name as I think our threads might be feeling a bit left out amongst all the other ante-natal threads with their jazzy names, but it's 23 minutes past 6 in the morning so my imagination was somewhat limited. Hmm

My news: Today is the last day of term! Squeeaaalllll! OMFG, I'm so ready for the summer holiday. This has been such a hard year, with a totally new curriculum we were writing as we went along, and a really, really difficult class who had made so little progress last year, not to mention the pregnancy bit Confused - it has felt like climbing a particularly large and unforgiving mountain - but today I've reached the summit! Grin Smile Biscuit Wine Brew Bear Hurray!

Hoping everyone has a great Friday - party at mine tonight to celebrate end of term?

LoopyLa · 20/07/2012 07:45

Just adding the link to our new thread that Yomping kindly created for us... Smile
