Well, mark one down for team blue! Everything was as it should be with the scan, and we saw some very obvious boy bits, baby had no shame with legs wide open.

Still a bit sad it's not a girl, even though I have thought all along it was a boy. Oh well, there is always next time.

Although to be entirely honest, my mom is goung to be terribly dissapointed as she really wanted a granddaughter, as already has 2 grandsons. I just think I have dissapointed her. And yhis may seem really childish, but with my brother having another ine in december, now I hope it's not a girl either so they don't "steal my thunder" by giving mom what she really wanted.

Oh well give me a day or two and i'll get over it.. I hope

Morning all, it's so bloody hot here we slept with all the windows open and I was consequently awoken by the dawn chorus at 4:45am Shock Grin. I don't mind though as after a very hectic week at school, I am on a conference today, with nice lunch, and tea and cakes !

So I think I'm getting used to being pregnant, and not totally hating the bump (most of the time anyway Hmm), but is my belly button definitely going to pop out? Bizarrely, this is the thing that's bothering me most - even more than pooing in the birthing pool Blush. I don't want a poppy outy belly button :(

I have been stupidly busy and have lost track a bit with who is doing what, so forgive the general mesages, but congratulations to all who have had recent scan results, hello new joiners and congratulations to yoiu too, commiserations for anyone going through difficult times whether health, existing child or work related, and good luck for any approaching scans.

21 weeks today! Over half way Shock Oh my god, where has the time gone?

We're off to see "What to Expect" on Sunday night - anyone else planning to go?

Aslo, if you're feeling a bit doom and gloom, this thread lists all the lovely things about having a newborn baby and it's so sweet it made me cry

Yomping, 37, 21 weeks today, DC1

Midgetm · 25/05/2012 06:39

Yomping my belly button didn't pop out last time, you may be saved.

DameFlatYouLent · 25/05/2012 07:32

Yomping, another one with a non-popping belly button on my last pg. It went kind of flat, which felt very strange. I didn't like it either. I reckon this time it might pop

I slept half-decently last night! Only up once for a wee Shock, woken by dawn chorus at 4 and dozed til 6. Larvely. Got up at 6.30 to have shower before DH left to avoid the awful DS shower melt-down yesterday, and of course DS is still sparko and I could still be in bed Angry Weirdly after a "good" (it's all relative, hey) night's sleep, I feel crap. Typical.

I'm also another with an incredible expanding bump. In the morning it's very neat, and could just be (as a work colleague described it) "sandwich bloat" Hmm. By the evening it's enormous and I feel like a whale.

Oh hurry up and wake up DS, i'm hungry!!

Midgetm · 25/05/2012 07:56

Dame now you say that it reminds me that is what mine did. Sort of long and flat and a but weird.

Kyyria · 25/05/2012 08:10

Yomping I too am dreading the "outy" bellybutton - have never been able to stomach (pardon the pun) other people's outies anyway and the thought of having one myself just makes me want to hurl! Blush

Am feeling a bit brighter today. Still suffering with sore boobs but nowhere near as bad as yesterday. More like sore nipples than boobs today (sorry if TMI). Can't wait for the point where I start "glowing" and feel fantastic!! Haven't had a day this week where I've been in bed later than 9:15pm - I'm absolutely shattered.

Am pleased It's Friday Grin - looking forward to a lie in tomorrow, bladder permitting!

OP posts:
dosomethingmutley · 25/05/2012 11:59

Ahaha. On the subject of belly buttons, mine has been 'out' since about week 8! I've always had an outy anyway but this is ridiculous; you can see it through three layers of clothes (I kid you not). It's like my bump sticks out, and then my button sticks out nearly as much again (or so it seems to me) on top of that Blush

My niece used to think that pressing her belly button in made her run faster (like a turbo boost I guess!). I've tried it: It doesn't work. (Or maybe mine's defective?).

I like to think of it as the cherry on top of the iced bun :)

Congrats Beeble - typical boy then, sitting with his legs wide open Grin

Nearly the weekend!

DameFlatYouLent · 25/05/2012 14:02

LOVE the idea of a turbo boost button!! Maybe it does other stuff when you press it, mutley, rather than make you run fast? Press, and observe your surroundings Wink Grin

Kyyria · 25/05/2012 18:49

Have developed cankles Sad

OP posts:
WantAnOrange · 25/05/2012 18:59

Oh no Kyyria! I have developed a cankle. Just one Hmm Grin. It is my ow silly fault though for getting sunburnt on my foot and ankle.

Make sure you get your feet up as much as possible.

squidkid · 25/05/2012 19:12

I read this most nights but never seem to summon enough energy to write! I love hearing about all you lovely ladies' joys and concerns though, and think about you all often.

Stormingly busy day but managed to leave nearly on time, oh the sunshine! Had an awesome quickie on my return home, stripped of scrubs and attacked .... Blush now boyfriend is out picking up beers and my best mate from the station. We're going to eat tuna and then find a riverside beer garden. Rock! Tomorrow I have a pregnancy massage Grin and then I'm making a picnic to take to the park where we can spend the whole day drinking beer (them) or soda water (me) and eating ice cream and sandwiches. I might go (window)shopping in the cute boutiques at some point because the boys will want to go to the pub and it is hard not to drink beer with the weather like this.

I have such the loveliest proper-ist bump now. Just bump, nowt else, can't really complain. It's probably still a bit on the small side, but I'm not worried about it any more. I can feel my uterus above my bellybutton and babysquid kicks me about 20 or 30 times a day, so. I thought I had cankles the other day, but I've always had kinda chunky legs really, can't blame that on pregnancy :)

Sorry if this sounds overly smug/happy/delirious, have had such a hard week at work and the weeknights are full of worries and tears, but managed it all ok, and have never been happier to be signed off working weekends!!!!

squid, 22+3

squidkid · 25/05/2012 19:23

Angelico so glad your consultant was understanding and you can have the birth you need.

Beeblebear aw, I think the disappointment is quite natural (and heightened by the emotions caused by having a scan in the first place - am seriously thinking I might not have any scans with no 2 if/when I have no 2). But all the slightly-disappointed boy reveals are making me want a boy more than ever! I'm sure it will be a girl, just to teach me a lesson for having a preference. It is funny how we have such a vision before the mites are even born.

Yomping oh my god, hadn't even considered the belly button issue... mine is VERY much an innie, you can't even reach the bottom of it I swear! Hmm, that will be a major adjustment if it happens. I'm not sure I hate the idea of it, it's just odd!

eh, too tired... need to have 10 min power nap before the boys arrive back... just waving feebly at everyone else... happy all is well with the scans gender aside and welcome new people... oh and whoever it was that was impressed I went to the theatre after work... well it was a 1hr20min play and I almost cried before and after because I was so tired! Was good though, we get freebie theatre tickets (and lots of other things) cause boyfriend writes for mags in his free time and reviews things and they think he's a real journalist and we sit next to snooty real journalist types from london, giggling at the ridiculousness of it all

snooze

lisbethsopposite · 25/05/2012 20:23

Angelico Baby using your bladder as a pillow - I think I can relate. I get this urgent need to pee, almost wet myself and then produce a tiny amount by the time I get to the loo.
So the upside of a placenta at the back seems to be feeling movement early - very good for the anxious brain. But the downside seems to be, how vigorous will these kicks be as we go along? And I wouldn't mind my baldder not to be in the firing line. I don't remember this with DS.

Thinking of having a picnic here tomorrow - just in the garden with DS, DH is away. Thanks for idea Squid.

Night all

Beccus · 26/05/2012 09:33

So, how are everyone's baby brains this morning? I only had to pee once last nite, result! I am a nude sleeper and wrap a towel around myself to preserve my modesty when i go for my frequent nightly toilet trips. However, it seems i forgot my towel and left it in the bathroom and wondered back, up the stairs starkers. I dont actually remember doing this and only discovered this this morning when i found my towel in the bathroom. We are staying in a flatshare while our rennovations are being done. How lucky no-one busted me! :)

Angelico · 26/05/2012 12:14

Hey all! This sunshine is BRILLIANT!!! Especially in Ireland where it's positively rare! Had to go and buy a parasol this morning, awesome :o

Beeble I think the whole gender thing is really common - I know there was a whole thread about it the other day. The funny thing is I keep seeing boy babies everywhere in their cute little clothes and think, "Aahhhhhhh!" Don't be worried about feeling sad, feelings are just feelings and they pass. Your mum will love your DS - and more importantly so will you :) x

Yomping that was a really sweet thread, thanks for linking :) Why do people only delight in telling us the awful stuff?

Loving the popped out belly buttons stuff. Is it strange that I don't mind if mine pops out?! I think it would look quite cool, especially if it comes with turbo functions... Wink

Squid so happy you are off weekends - you deserve it after heroics all bloody week! Enjoy the sunshine! x Wine

Lisbeth sounds like your bean likes getting comfy too... Hmm

:o at Beccus and the nudie midnight prowl.

Sympathies to the cankle club! Mine get worse as the day goes on. So glad I was off work last couple of days because I do feel quite a bit better in myself and the heat would have killed me - kept falling asleep just being at home Blush

Also some excitement - incredibly slow book contract finally came through, bit of bouncing back and forth still to do but that's what agents are for thank God! Also... I saw my first draft book cover - and it's AWESOME!!! I LOVE IT! :o Feel like a real, proper writer somehow, rather than some obsessive loon who sits at the computer making up stories (although not recently - too hot, tired and braindead Blush ). Won't be out till next year but seeing it I can kindof picture the book on a shelf... :o

Enjoy the sunshine peeps, going to go and doze under parasol, bar-b-q for tea (oh for a beer!) x

Beeblebear · 26/05/2012 14:02

Beccus. - my baby brain struck again yesterday. Lwft my sun roof wide open while I went shopping even though I saw an impending rain shower. Inside of my car got soaked!

WantAnOrange · 26/05/2012 21:08

Wow Angelico! A book? That's very grown up, and unbelievably cool.

AKMD · 26/05/2012 23:04

Hi everyone, haven't been on for ages but I had to tell someone - had a scan today and it's a girl! Yay! DH and I aren't telling anyone else (family politics issues) but we are both really pleased. DS (2yo) is not impressed. The proper scan is next week but the sonographer today said that everything looks fine at a quick glance.

Beeble I had been telling myself (and everyone else) all along that I thought and hoped it was a boy, trying to talk myself into it so that I wouldn't get excited about a girl and then be hugely disappointed. I have to admit that I would have been disappointed if the scan today had shown that we were expecting a boy, which is one of the reasons that we wanted a gender scan. I did not want to feel disappointment when my little boy was born, if that was going to be the case. I am also feeling rather bitchy this evening as there are 5 cousins already on one side and SIL is really smug about having the only girl. So now I'm rather guiltily pleased but I know she will have a major sulk (drama queen) Blush

squidkid · 27/05/2012 10:29

It's so sunny and I'm having a lovely weekend, picnics and massages and parks and kids and cheering the marathon runners.

This is a very minor gripe: but has anyone else noticed how people insist on telling you your life will be hell when your child arrives? I'm really REALLY looking forward to it and don't appreciate the negativity. I have found work really tough the last couple of years and honestly think it will be wonderful having a complete change of direction and pace. Yesterday I was chasing my boyfriend around the park rather childishly and my friend said ominously, "enjoy it while it lasts..." ... enjoy WHAT, playing in the park? Isn't that what you can do every single day if you have a child and are off work?? It's not like we were out in a club at 4am necking vodka...

I can't wait to have a squidkid and I don't care what the grumps say. I was planning to take him/her to the park all the time! Is this really so unrealistic?

ps. I have bought tickets for a gig two days before my due date - was this a bit stupid or just awesome
pps. marathon runners today have inspired me to look for a race to sign up to... not sure if this is a bit stupid too... was running 5-10k fairly regularly before pregnancy but haven't done much running during it... I'll wear a very fitted top so I get some sympathy-cheers for obviously being pregnant!

squidkid · 27/05/2012 10:34

I mean a 5k race or something, not a marathon(!!!), just to clarify!

Kyyria · 27/05/2012 11:59

Squid I've found the same reaction too - every conversation is 95% negative with a "oh, but it'll all be worth it" stuck on the end.
I too have had a horrendous 18months/2years at work and am very much looking forward to having something in my life that is so much more important Smile

OP posts:
Beccus · 27/05/2012 12:55

Squid, that's awesome u r going to a gig 2 days before your due date, who r u seeing? Be careful with the running and your extra flexible ligaments, especally if u r out of practice. I had to be talked into giving up bikram yoga at the beginning of pregnancy, but am now thinking pregnancy is a good time to try some different exercise. Am starting antenatal yoga next week and have been really enjoying swimming, which i normally find really boring. Yay to playing in the park everyday with junior - i am seriously considering taking the whole yr as mat leave, even thought the cash situation will be quite traumatic, just because i so want to have a full summer in the park with my almost 1 yr old in 2013 :)

lisbethsopposite · 27/05/2012 13:51

Tee hee hee at annoyance at unsolicited advice Grin
A friend of mine is a midwife, a public health nurse and a mother of 2 (2 master on top of her basic training). She received advice on managing her children, apparently she was fussing too much, from a childless aunt at a family function. Same friend is actually quite a calm person.

I adore motherhood - yes there are times when you are knackered but father is there too. Babies also sleep a lot, so you can nap. I remember with DS having Susan Boyle's CD in the car. Perfect Day will always be our song 'Oh what a perfect day - I'm glad I spent it with you'.
That does not mean I don't love a few hours to myself to meet a friend or shop or go for a swim.
It's different if a child is ill, or a partner not contributing, or twins - then I think motherhood would be very hard.
Motherhood is fabulous. I count that and meeting my DH as the 2 best things to have happened in my life.

Zara1984 · 27/05/2012 14:47

Hi everyone - hope you're all enjoying this very lovely sunshine!!! We're having a BBQ this evening - have left a note for our neighbours to join us, hopefully they can come as we haven't caught up with them in ages!

DH had a bit of a fright this morning - when I went to the loo upon waking I had quite a bit of clear watery liquid gush out of me. my panicked thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1481677-18-weeks-leaking-amniotic-fluid-or-just-discharge-TMI-alert Called the maternity hospital who told me to have a shower, dry myself well and monitor further discharge. A few hours later I was still having excess liquid come out of me and some cramps so I called again, and they told us to come in to the emergency room.

Anyway after a rather uncomfortable internal examination it was all fine - not amniotic fluid leaking or (worse) my waters breaking as was suspected over the phone by them. Just very very wet Blush

Was quite frightening for both of us BUT the hospital staff were very nice, and said it was the right thing to be cautious and come in. And there was a silver lining.... the doctor did an ultrasound to check on baby and she asked us if we knew the sex... which raised our suspicions! Anyway she did a bit more scanning for us and she said she could make an educated guess that baby is......

A BOY! Grin

She showed us on the screen and we both think we saw boy bits too! Anyway she told us not to go and buy anything, and not to be surprised/upset if she's wrong and the 21 week scan shows differently... not that we would be, but we feel pretty confident she was right!

So that was a nice ending to a bit of a shit morning. :)

squid running should be fine BUT take care on your ligaments. I too have stopped running since preg (mainly cos I was feeling sick) but when cycling I've noticed my knee ligaments/muscles strain and hurt quite easily when I push myself a bit. See how you go with a few light jogs perhaps before signing up - but I'm sure you'll be fine! :)
