Just starting us off on a new thread Smile

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YompingJo · 28/05/2012 18:42

Kyyria, I felt like that, didn't feel mine move at all until 19 weeks and a few days. It'll happen soon!

Squid, several people who know what they're talking about have told me to be careful with running .,as your ligaments get very stretchy so it's easy to injure yourself. One very sporty friend who does marathons and stuff said she stopped at 5 months, and someone else in the know said that if you run too late into your pregnancy you risk affecting your pelvic floor muscles and possible later incontinence. I'm still jogging a the gym, sporadically, but not sure I'd go in for races at the moment as, at the gym, I can stop whenever I want. Sorry, this won't be what you wanted to hear, and obviously feel free to ignore it. Hiking and swimming is still great though. I'm finding it really hard not to do more running and especially missing climbing - DH is off climbing one day this week. I'm trying to be happy for him but secretly I want to make a plasticene model of him and jab it with pins, out of pure jealousy!! :(

I find M&S good for pants, I have to say, so can't offer any pant-related words of wisdom.

Ha ha ha, LoopyLa, you make me laugh! That's exactly the kind of thing I'd like to say to most of the teaching assistants at work, who are the ones who delight in offering me unsolicited, doom-mongering advice.

Haggis, that sounds like my (pre-pregnancy) dream weekend - Scotland and weddings. Sigh. I hope you enjoyed it even though it was tiring. Glad your scan was good.

Angelico, Wine, well done!

And thank you to everyone who gave belly-button reassurance, I will live in hope that mine stays firmly in.

Had a wicked weekend - Eurovision party on Saturday night at a friend's house (did anyone else watch it? What was with Estonia's eyebrows???). It was a good distance from our house and we didn't get to bed until 1am Shock and DH had to be up at 7 the next morning as he was working so I got up then too as I was awake. Then we went to a late afternoon gathering on the local Common yesterday - frisbeeing and chatting, and DH taught me to longboard (like skateboarding but the board is longer so it rolls more easily and it's more chilled out). I'm proud of myself as it was with DH's friends, who I'm a bit paranoid about, I'm a good few years older than them and I never think they like me, but I went, and made conversation, and joined in, and had fun. But the downside of all the socialising is that I've been so so tired today, and I'm off to Pilates in a minute and all I want to do is sleep!

Tired Yomping, 21 + 3, DC1

squidkid · 28/05/2012 18:45

Loopyla Ha. I am glad I'm not alone. I've also noticed I get all the most doom-and-gloom comments from girls who didn't work through their pregnancies, well yeah I'm sure having a newborn is harder than doing nothing.

Zoe hmm, I'm not in new pants as yet (is this an inevitability? christ so much stuff to buy), though I am wearing my comfier ones. I have a bump band that I was wearing under my scrubs just cause like Beeblebear it made me feel more comfortable and contained, but with the heat I can't bear to. Can you not just try a size up, normal cotton ones?

I had an ok day at work but the hospital is SO HOT I just feel like I'm going to keel over the whole time. I am not lifting patients any more (to listen to their chests if they are too ill themselves, etc) and I feel like I'm being an arse when I ask someone else to do it for me - most people don't know I'm pregnant. My scrubs are baggy and though they are reasonably comfy I feel fat and horrible in them. Blah.

A girl at work who knows I'm pregnant took me aside deliberately today to tell me with barely-contained glee that her neighbour's waters just broke and she lost her baby at 20 weeks. I have no idea what goes through people's heads when they do things like this. I don't think I replied.

lisbethsopposite · 28/05/2012 19:35

Hi all - nothing to say. Just marking spot.
In the name thing, DS is Robert.
We have Paul, Luke, Stephen in the pot for now. Oh yes and Tom.

lisbethsopposite · 28/05/2012 19:37

Shock to loopy colleague Squidkid
Thought diarrhea

Angelico · 28/05/2012 19:40

Evening ladies! Still sunny here!

Thanks Midget and Yomping - it's a lifelong ambition fulfilled. If we're all still on the board next year will give all the details (once we've all stopped discussing constipation, bloating, cankles etc and have moved onto sleepless nights :o)

And Midget I know I have never felt less motivated at work - counting the weeks now tbh and thinking, "Thank God! A year off!" Good luck with applications - and try and find a few mins to stroke your belly and grin x

Pants people - Zoe, Huffle, Beeble, Squid - am absorbing any words of wisdom! I bought some cheapies a couple of weeks ago, I always wear the high leg ones (come to low abdomen) BUT they are now really tight just above pubes - where section scar will be Hmm Had to take to cutting the tops down an inch and now they are v comfy :o Just going to buy loads of cheapies, slice 'em up and dump when bean arrives! Beeble yours sound good, where did you get them?

Haggis sympathy on the wedding tiredness! They're a bit of a marathon even when you're not pregnant. We left wedding last week at 11.30, normally I'd only be getting started then!

Kyrria you might have already felt bean move and not even noticed it if movements were tiny - but you will feel it soon.

Yomping :o at images of voodoo husband doll and pregnant lady whizzing through park on a long board :o

Squid people are mental with their 'stories'. I told one of my best friends about being pregnant when I was 11 weeks and said we'd waited to see what if first few months were okay. Her first words were, "Oh I know, a girl in work just lost her baby at 22 weeks." Confused Well thank you. Take your anecdote and shove it up your... Wink I don't know why people do it!

Mad DH moment of the day: DH decided to clean the oven, sprayed it with gunk this morning and left it, didn't leave note etc even though I always make dinner. I turned oven on blissfully unaware, returned a few minutes later to find vile black smoke belching through door. Flung open windows and patio door and fled choking. Throat still burning and paranoid that bean is turning into Binky the fish from poisonous fumes...

Sheepish DH has just arrived home with Chinese as oven is a hazard zone Hmm :o

Midgetm · 28/05/2012 21:39

Evening all. I am weighing in on the pants. I find m&s cotton bikinis in a size up do the trick nicely. I still have mine left from DD and they did the whole pregnancy. I have black and white but the more errrr Blush moist you get through the pregnancy white is more practical if you know what I mean...Grin.

Anyway I am totally shagged. Been at work since 8, the went to an exhibition and I am now ready to collapse. I thought I was more energetic but going out straight after work is still killing me.

Bump is now huge and getting seats regularly on the tube. Good to see manners aren't dead yet. Sometimes feel bad taking them....but then I get over it and rest my big arse.

milk · 29/05/2012 08:12

Just came on to say I've been enjoying the sunshine and I (and bean) am still alive :) Will be back on here when the sun disappears which I'm sure it will soon considering we live in UK :P

22weeks, DS2.

CWest30 · 29/05/2012 08:50

Hi just wanted to add to the movement discussion, I'm 17 wks 2 days with baby no 2 and not feeling it yet :-( I started to feel the whole "bubbles" thing but that was a few wks ago and there's been nothing to speak of since. Slightly panicking as wen I had the bleed last wk the Dr couldn't find the heartbeat, even tho the midwife found it when I was only 13 wks!! Got midwife again Fri so will see, just hate all this stress and worry :-( x

LoopyLa · 29/05/2012 09:15

CWest I was exactly the same!! Had flutterings about 10 days ago but nothing since! I keep wobbling my belly (hope to God I haven't caused 'shaken baby syndrone' before the lil bear is born??!! Confused) to try & encourage movement but am waiting very impatiently for proper movement Envy

I also need to getting more pants and was thinking bikini low rise types. I was just going to go up a size and I really dislike things on my bump, especially with the heat.

Midget I must get me a 'baby on board' placard & t-shirt badge particularly as the Olympics will be here soon enough Shock

LoopyLa · 29/05/2012 09:18

gah! And I always forget my stats - but the age of my bump is the same as Kyrria's & she's very good at posting hers!! Smile

Londonmrss · 29/05/2012 09:58

Sorry to hear about your panic CWest. From what I've read, movement is generally sporadic for the first few weeks. I felt a few proper movements about a week ago, including a proper squirm that made me feel very strange. Then I didn't feel anything for almost a week, then have just started feeling tiny pops and punches again yesterday. Maybe the tiny thing was just sleepy because of the weather? I suspect it's more likely that it just moved into a different position which I couldn't feel as strongly.
I haven't bought any new pants. These are my favourite knickers: www.marksandspencer.com/Cut-Out-Lace-Trim-Brazilian-[Knickers/dp/B004BIPX9U?ie=UTF8&ref=sr_1_31&nodeId=62805031&sr=1-31&qid=1338281515 ].
Not maternity, and won't be everyone's cup of tea but they're really nice material.
Squid, your colleague sounds insane! She would probably tell you on your wedding day that 1 in 3 marriages end in divorce and plenty of others end in sudden accidental death. None of us need those kinds of stories, and giving what she thinks is a 'dose of reality' so someone who works in a hospital seems stupid and selfish.

Londonmrss · 29/05/2012 09:58

Oh and I'm 18 + 4 with #1

MickeyTheShortOne · 29/05/2012 10:19

hey everyone, hope you are all OK. Nothing much to say other than I have a shitty day at work ahead of me. Joy of joys. No fun. Whatsoever.

I am also experiencing sporadic movement, wouldn't worry too much!

Love to you all, hope you have a better day than i expect to!

Londonmrss they're pretty without being Grannyish - I like!! Grin

Zoeplankton · 29/05/2012 11:34

Hi all,

Ta for pants advice - I don't think I need mat pants, but I've gained 8 kilos (that's 1.25 stone!) (!) and... well, my old pants just don't fit. (Also I realised that I've had some of my pants since I moved to the UK... in 2007! Shock) The best pants in the world in my humble opinion are Bonds (www.bonds.com.au) but the so-and-sos won't ship outside Australia. RARGH.

I had a cervical length test yesterday, because I've had a chunk of cervix removed before (CIN 3 cells - that'll show me for letting my pap smears go out of date) and having cervical cells removed makes your cervix shorter (in retrospect: duh).

It was the funniest medical experience of my life. The (female!) sonographer kept saying 'gosh, will you look at that... oh my... that is just beautiful. What a fantastic cervix. My my my. That is just... well that is just lovely.'

Apparently, I have a cervix to be proud of Wink

Upper back pain is a right... well, pain at the moment. Have managed to get it controlled by rolling a small hard ball between the muscle knots in my back and the wall. Very effective, but I'd rather everything just worked! Like it used to!

Last words on the horrible fissure stuff - fjordmor ta for healthy perspective re. birth injury to the behind. Dame if it was a fissure, you'd feel the awful spasming pain after moving your bowels, so you may be in the clear. (Feels like a knife/piece of glass while moving them, too - that's the symptom to watch for). Some of us might develop one of these after birth, so if you do, heal it up ASAP! The faster you let it heal, the less likely it is to get chronic (again: duh). I've had pretty gosh darn good results from eating this 'orrible stuff before meals - www.lepicol.com/. It's dry husky fibres in the jar, add water and it turns to a translucent gelantinous goo. (For this reason I eat it dry and wash it down with loads of water.)

Mmmmmmm, delicious.

Hope we all enjoyed the sunshine while it lasted! And now, back to work ;)

Zoeplankton · 29/05/2012 11:37

Oh about wriggles - my placenta is right at the front, which actually insulates me from most of the kicks even though the boybe (that's what I've started calling him - I know, it's dreadful) is apparently a right wriggler. If you're not feeling many kicks, that might be why...

...also I read that, to the extent that they can be said to be 'asleep' and 'awake', they're now on the same cycle they will be on/are SUPPOSED to be on when they're born - about 18 hours asleep and 6 awake each day. Which would also explain a low wriggle rate.

Zoeplankton · 29/05/2012 11:48

Ach! One last thing -

Buttonhole + button + hair elastic = jeans you can still wear!

(if your shirt is long enough, that is... Wink)

DameFlatYouLent · 29/05/2012 12:29

Hello all! Anyone else suffering with hayfever? Itchy eyes, sore throat, running nose....argh, nightmare.

On the great pant debate, I'm in the same pants I wore pre-DS. Wore them right through my 1st pg and, unless I pile on some serious poundage (which is highly possible) I plan to wear them through this one! They're the M&S low rise short things. Don't work for everyone though I suppose. I bought a load of larger size granny pants from M&S for post-birth, and still have them (bar a few which needed chucking Blush) to use this time as well! Nice, old pants.... Depends on the size of my rear at the end. Yikes.

Just got a pregnancy pilates DVD. Trying to do it whilst DS naps, I'm terrible at the postures. I can get half my body right, and the other half forgets what it's doing. My posture is appalling Sad I was told by a physio after DS that I have bugger all core strength - that's probably why.

Zoe congrats on the wonderful cervix! That's hilarious!

Squid that woman is officially a twat Angry Hope you don't have to work too closely with her

Midget glad to hear people are giving up their seats for you. Enjoy it when it happens!!

Angelico the oven sounds horrendous!! Have you managed to sort it out?

Re. names, I find it so so so hard. I still wonder if we called DS the right thing. For this one, we're thinking Emilia for a girl and Charles (Charlie) for a boy. I love Emilia but I find it so hard to think of boys' names I like - there are none I love Sad. The other boys option is Benedict. But we still have a while to go yet!!

Ah bugger, DS is awake an hour early. Little pickle. He seems to have a Mumsnet-radar and wakes up whenever I post Hmm

Kyyria · 29/05/2012 16:09

I must admit I prefer over the flab bump pants/trousers but am struggling in the heat the last few days! It does make it a bit too toasty!

Popped into the local supermarket on my lunchbreak - I could've camped out in the refrigerated foods aisle...it was bliss! :0)

On the Great Pants Debate, I?m still in the same ones as I?ve been wearing ? mixture of M&S bikini ones, M&S short-type ones and the odd thong one.
Zoe that made me laugh re your gorgeous cervix!
Mickey I hope your day wasn?t as bad as feared.
I?ve not had any of the ?just you wait til it?s here? type doommongers, but LOADS of the ?OMG giving birth is the WORST THING EVER. You?ll be RIPPED APART. I had 38 hours of agony? type comments. Which is really helpful. I think there?s a certain amount you can do in terms of antenatal classes / preparation / hypobirthing etc but on the day, a certain amount comes down to luck of the draw and frankly being terrified cos friends and colleagues won?t stop telling you horror stories doesn?t seem to be a good idea!
Still not felt pepe yet but am only 16+5 so perhaps too early.
Names-wise we?re still in negotiations...

dosomethingmutley · 29/05/2012 16:59

I too am a fan of the M&S Brazilian pants that Londondmrs recommended; the material's nice and stretchy and the side seams aren't too prominent (I find I get numb hips otherwise Confused). Also, no vpl which is great under jersey skirts and the like, but they can tend to get a bit wedged...

I've also missed out on the horror stories so far, but this could because I'm not showing enormously yet. Although one of the first things dh did when we first found out about the samling was to sit me down and watch Aliens with me (y'know, with the Alien bursting out of some guy's stomach...) just so that I was fully prepped about what childbirth is actually going to be like Grin He could be very disappointed come October!

As far as names go, obviously I've got a shortlist, but really getting dh to have a sensible discussion about it is like getting blood out of a stone. Hopefully we'll find out the flavour at the scan next week and then he might be more amenable!

Londonmrss · 29/05/2012 17:00

Well I'm getting fatter, and I'm feeling regular prods and wriggles now etc, but I've just realised I still find it all a bit hard to believe / relate too.
Don't get me wrong, I'm ridiculously excited and happy to be pregnant and absolutely can't wait to me a mummy. But when I feel a little kick, or when I talk to the baby or even when I see it on an ultrasound screen... I find it hard to believe that it's actually a baby and it's there in my tummy. When I talk to it, I don't feel like I'm really talking to another person- more like I'm talking to myself.
Does that sound a bit mental? My 20 week scan is on Fri (actually I'l be 19 weeks then) so maybe it'll help? I think being able to refer to it as a 'he' or a 'she' rather than 'it' might help me to relate to it too...
Zoe congrats on your beautiful cervix- your other half is a lucky lucky fella!

Beeblebear · 29/05/2012 18:20

Quick question, does anyone elses DH/DP NOT want to feel the baby move? Like thinks it's gross or "like the alien movie" and is just not interested to sit and wait to feel a little kick?

willowtreee · 29/05/2012 20:06

Hi everyone, feel free to ignore me but having a real down day and need to get it all out, finding all this pregnancy lark a bit hard, I don't look pregnant, I don't feel pregnant, I can't feel it moving yet, my boobs haven't grown a jot and someone actually told me I was looking slimmer earlier this week. In my ideal world I would be blooming by now floating around on a cloud of happiness but reality's a bit harder to swallow unfortunatley and I just can't help fearing the worst.
I'm 19 weeks today and have my scan next Friday which should hopefully make it seem real again to me and from reading your messages it seems I'm not alone not feeling anything at this stage especially with it being my first. Anyways like I said not looking for sympathy but I do feel a bit better for getting it all out.

P.S really enjoy reading how you are all getting along and read the funny birth stories tread over the weekend, genius! Actually looking forward to a bit of G&A now lol

Angelico · 29/05/2012 20:15

Hey CWest try not to worry about the not moving thing - bean's movements are very erratic. I felt bean at 14 weeks once, then didn't feel again for 2 weeks. Also go through patches where feel bean every day, then might have a few days where nothing at all. Used to feel movements at night in bed, now it's more likely to happen after lunch and dinner.

Zoe your cervix deserves a photoshoot! :o Must be a huge relief. Loving that sonographer - Thanks for her!

Dame - on hayfever front, yes just today! We took kids to this big sports field this morning and think there was just too much grass. Haven't had symptoms so far this year but eyes got really scratchy today so phoned GP to ask for the eye drops. Not sure what else they would give me. And as for oven - it is slowly recovering... :o

London know what you mean about talking to the bump although it is becoming more real since big scan. I tend to burble and sing to her in the car in the morning and sometimes at teatime. DH laughs at my little songs for her :) Keep finding myself singing that White Stripes song, "Something tells me we are gonna be friends." :o

Beeble I'm not at stage yet where DH could feel bean through my flab but think he will be half fascinated and half freaked. He is a bit squeamish about things, he's gonna love standing beside me during section... heh heh! Wink

Willow - sending sympathy Thanks In another few weeks you'll be lying in bed thinking, "Aaaarrggghh bean, lie still so I can sleep!!!" Wink

DH away tonight so planning on catching up on some phone chats and generally chilling. Have a good evening all x
