18 weeks, leaking amniotic fluid or just discharge??? TMI alert

Just woke up and went to the loo - beforeI started to pee there was a small gush of liquid out of my vagina that dripped into the loo. I touched some of it and it's watery, clear and odourless. After that dribble/little gush it stopped.

Could it be amniotic fluid?!?! Or is it likely to be just discharge. I'm quite a moist person anyway, and throughout preg have needed 2 panty liners a day.

Am 18 weeks and am lying here terrified it could be amnio fluid :(

It could be, yes, but that's not necessarily a massive problem. My water levels dipped a couple of times during pregnancy although I never felt the trickle. Call your midwife or maternity unit first thing and go get checked out, but don't panic!

Thank you peeling!! I called the maternity hospital and the midwife said it could just be discharge backed up in my vagina, but it could also be amniotic fluid (altho unlikely at 18 weeks). She said I should have a shower, dry myself thoroughly and put on clean undies. Then she said I should monitor my discharge for the next few hours - if there is more of this clear watery discharge I should come in.

A bit less worried now but am defo not going back to sleep...

I had this last Saturday at 15+5 (twins). NHS direct told me to go to Triage. They did an internal examination and found that the cervix was closed. I had an emergency scan on the Sunday morning and both the amniotic sacs measured a normal size so they said it could very well be discharge and to keep an eye on it. I haven't had any since.

Even if you only have a few trickles, phone Triage, they will tell you what do do.

Not quite as far on as you (15wks tomorrow), so it didn't even cross my mind to think 'amniotic fluid' but I had a gush of fluid a couple of weeks back. I had just had a bath so maybe that contributed but I too am quite 'moist' normally & pg just increases it. I'll be standing, minding my own business, & suddenly I'll feel a lot more wet down there, a bit of a gush/might of wee'd myself slightly feeling... Fingers crossed it is a rather yucky side effect & nothing more serious :)

Thank you all!! Did manage to doze off Blush and have now woken up with no further gushing/clear discharge (aside from my usual levels).

So I presume it must have been discharge backed up from lying down as midwife suggested? If I have more gushing will go into hospital though...

Ok so then I DID have more liquid come out later on. Called hospital, went to emergency dept. Internal exam and ultrasound - all fine! Was just very very wet Blush BUT they said it was the right thing to come in as they were concerned my waters could have broken.

Alls well that ends well!
