Hi! Marking place

londonlivvy · 20/05/2012 20:12

Goodness! Happy part 5 to us chatterboxes. Hope you all had good weekends. I'm pretty tired after being on a course all weekend so early night ahoy.

Angelico · 20/05/2012 20:56

Hey peeps, away all weekend so missed the partay - but great idea :o

After my 'not so worried about spotting' had LOTS of brown blood yesterday, had to go to hospital in Dublin as maternity unit here told me to go and get checked out when I phoned for advice. No sign of polyp bleeding, cervix closed, all utterly baffling. Where is it coming from?! Was quite crampy too. Am really considering going for private care now, just to regularly see consultant who might be able to shed light or at least say, "Oh yes, I've had dozens of ladies with these symptoms, they've all been fine."

Got quite upset, thought, "We've only known it's a girl for 24 hours and now this happens!" :(

No more bleeding today and in a fit of defiance we stopped at a Mamas and Papas outlet and got lots of cute baby bedding etc. Pretty unisex though in case there is a surprise waiting for us...!

On a happy note my friend is only 2 weeks away from popping and is feeling great, she has had NO pregnancy symptoms AT ALL during her pregnancy, apart from expanding tum and boobs and is still feeling fab at 38 weeks - so there's hope for all.

We were at a wedding yesterday (nipped to hospital between service and reception! Confused) and lovely lady across table was talking about hypnobirthing. She has 4 kids and is now a granny (she's in early 40's). She said her daughter used that Gentle Birthing book / CD and found it AMAZING. She said you do need to buy into it but she is a total convert after seeing how calm and happy her daughter was during labour and birth. Obviously you need luck on your side too with baby position etc but she really sold it to me. Apparently about now is a good time to start reading / listening to CD if anyone is interested. My sister is using a different one but it's really helped bring her blood pressure down if nothing else!

Hope you all had a good weekend and Beeble hope the pain thing has settled down. I got really bad stabbing pain lower right side yesterday and doc did US, said bean had her feet dancing about over there which may have caused pain, so don't despair, it might not be gall bladder Thanks

MickeyTheShortOne · 20/05/2012 21:18

Hi all, I'm so late for the party, is it still going on?!
I will bring my wotsits, milkybar buttons, apples and snickers bar. My music of choice is similar to Beccus (? sorry i can't remember!!)- 90s dance music all the way. "ITS LIKE THAT.. " and all that jazz.
Topic of conversation is also baby names, Zoe I nearly died reading your post, Anal Joy?!!!! Thats horrendous, so horrible but oh so funny. I gave my uncle a book of the most ridiculous names since time began for his birthday one year, and a poor lady was named Fanny Gush. True Story!
angelico hope you are feeling alright, you must be going through hell. Thanks for the tip on hypnobirthing though, I'm really interested in that kind of thing but I was put off at the price of an instructor. Maybe I'll look at the book instead!

RE thoughts on gender preference. Zoe I'm so glad you were honest about it. I am personally praying for a boy, as much as it would be nice to have a girl- only because I was never a girly girl, still not really, the girl world is still relatively new to me!!!
If i wasn't pregnant I'd have been sitting outside the pub with a pint of stella/fosters and a fag today and chatting to all the boys. Most of my friends are boys and I find them alot easier to confide in than girls. Although I do have a few girlfriends and they are all wonderful- boys seem to be more chilled out though and there doesn't seem to be such bitchyness about.. I think thats why I fit in with lads better!

Saying this though I have fallen in love with the girls names Lola and Esme, so would be so happy if I actually got to use one, just which one should we choose!!!!

And also (sorry im so bad with catching up, I have missed you all though!!) I am with those on the dog like parenting conversation. That doesn't make any sense but I'm sure you'll all understand what I meant! Wink :o

congratulations to all those that have had their scans and that know if they are team blue or pink! Its all so exciting!!!
I still have forever to go, june 19th!!! I must nearly be the last one to have my 20 wk, although Cwest I seem to remember was the same as me.. Hope you are Ok as we have not seen you in a while. Wine

I am going on holiday with my mummy in a week and four days, so excited. Any tips on being pregnant in Corfu? Am slightly worried about the state of Greece at the moment.. but am sure we will be ok.

CWest30 · 20/05/2012 21:20

Hi all, sorry been so busy haven't posted for ages!
The good news is, blood pressure is coming down and the side effects of the tablets have worn off. Have also been thinking I'm feeling flutters although I'm.only just 16 wks so.not entirely sure....
Now the not so good news, me and hubby dtd this morning, sorry tmi and after I had watery bloody discharge. It stopped after a while but been feeling crampy and rubbish all day. Back to the drs again in the morning I think.
That's the first negative post in the new thread out the way!

Midgetm · 20/05/2012 21:21

Marking my place so I don't loose you when I get back from Spanish Spain.

orange I have spent the whole time on holiday rubbing my belly so people realise I am pregnant not fat. Feel particularly huge in my bikini but like a tan too much to cover it up. So do lots of stage gestures to ensure people aren't mistaken. And my wardrobe is so limited now and seems so vile in comparison. Small price to pay for a bambino but it is a pain in the arse when you are as vain as me. Anyway I know what you mean.

Angelico so sorry you are still spotting. It is as worrying as hell. Doesn't matter how many people tell you there is no good reason for it. Mine has stopped for a bit but get paranoid every time I wipe. Anyway, hope you get to the bottom of it so you can put your mind at rest.

best go before the data roaming bitch catches me and slaps me with a surcharge. One more whole day in the sun for me. Night night bean bakers.

bella2012 · 20/05/2012 22:20

Just marking my place and want to thank everyone for support re unexpected landlord visit. Had lush day with my boys today so feeling much more human. Dreading work tomorrow but hey ho it has got to be done.

angelico you are a hero for fitting in a wedding in amongst all your bleeding stress and hospital visits. I really hope it settles for you soon, it must be so upsetting and frustrating for you.

midgetm and mickey enjoy your hols! Xx

gigglewizz · 20/05/2012 22:36

Hi all, thanks for the posts, feeling much better and am happily picking boys names....

YompingJo · 21/05/2012 06:44

I am stubbornly still posting in the old thread until it runs out, lol.

Have a good day all x

LoopyLa · 21/05/2012 07:56

Yomping I beat you to it Wink I like things tidy so finished it off Blush

I really need to post a bit more often as I tend to lose track and then have to read a novel's worth of posts to catch up!! Not that I'm saying we should post less - no sirree - it's just harder to do as on phone, rather than a PC...

Anyhoo, wading into gender debate (albeit later than most!!). I'm generally confused/unsure about how I'm going to look after/deal with a tiny person so genuinely not fussed either way Confused Grin I just hope I do ok!! Dont get me wrong, this baby is desperately wanted after 2 years TTC so either flavour is welcome! At this point, I'm thinking about not finding out at the scan.

And 2 awesome things happened last week 1) My Bessie in the whole wide world told me she is also upduffed and she's just 8 wks behind - very happy that I get to share these experiences with someone close!! And 2) felt our ikkle baby for the first time on Friday night as DH was rubbing my tummy and saying hello Grin Was a fluttery feeling and just felt amazing, went all teary with happiness Smile

WantAnOrange · 21/05/2012 08:20

LoopyLa you will do fine I'm sure, and whispers we all drop the baby at least once....there are plenty of threads on mumsnet of parents letting the baby roll off the bed etc, most make it to adulthood. Grin

Zoeplankton · 21/05/2012 11:59

So tired today. I keep assuming that I'm fine to do my normal stuff, pushing it without realising, and then BLAUGH. Exhaustion & incapacity. (On the upside, I have finally replaced the lightshades downstairs and planted out the honeysuckle and clematis I bought a week ago! Grin)

And I have to travel for work tomorrow...

Desperately worried about this stupid anal fissure. If you don't know what that is, count yourself lucky. Basically it's a little tear just inside your bum, usually caused by (TMI!) doing a poo that is too hard, but it doesn't heal properly because it re-tears every time you do another poo (so, every day! Shock) The re-tear makes the muscles in your bum spasm, it hurts like hell, and can go on for HOURS. I've basically got mine mostly under control and possibly healing (it's been there five or six months), but I know that the strain & pressure of birth can cause the tear to go from little to huge and frankly, I'm really scared about that. Birth pain, not that worried. Fissure pain after birth, gosh-darn terrified. I have a specialist appointment with the NHS but it's AGES away and I'm only getting pregnanter - might try to go private, for speed's sake.

I found out at 20 week scan that I've gained 8 kilos! That's one-and-a-bit stone! Have been rejoicing - following bereavement in 2005 (sister), I lost loads of weight and never could out it back on, even eating two hot meals a day and desert. So while my heart goes out to those struggling with the changing shape, I have to admit I am doing little happy-dances. If I knew earlier I would have done this years ago Wink (nah, not really!)

Can I say, though - I have never seen a pregnant woman who I thought looked un-lovely. Not ever. I am sure we all look far better in other people's eyes than you do in your own - especially our DPs/DHs! Ask yours, and if he says anything less than 'this is the most beautiful you have ever been and I love you more every day' then hit him on the bonce with a frying pan and have a bounty bar ;)

Zoeplankton · 21/05/2012 12:06

Yay for our boy babies, gigglewizz! So glad you're feeling better - I know I am!

HaggisNeepsTatties · 21/05/2012 13:52

Just marking my place x

FjordMor · 21/05/2012 13:54

Well, it's my 20 wk scan tomorrow and I'm really quite excited to see the baby again! :) Thinking of Yomping and Dame today and looking forward to news later!

Angelico - I do hope things sort themselves out soon. It is worrying for you! I'm glad you're thinking positively though. At least if they can't find any cause and the baby's fine that's one good thing? I hear all these stories of people who bled all the way through their pregnancies and had healthy babies. It's frustrating but fingers crossed for you that it's nothing significant. The hypno-birthing stuff is really interesting. I learned a lot in the early days of my pregnancy about the effects of anxiety on labour (lengthening it etc.) so I'm well up for giving something like that a try (even though I'm one who is likely to end up with a caesarean).

Mickey - Corfu? How exciting! :) DP and I talked about what holiday we could afford with the DSDs/manage with me heavily pregnant and looks like we'll end up in Denmark or near Oslo (a bit like a Brit going to Scotland or London for a holiday - or perhaps Brittany at a stretch) but hey, on the upside, I'm unlikely to get fed up in the heat (just a little Envy of you & Midget sunning yourselves).

CWest30 - gosh! Sorry to hear that just as one thing got better something else came up. You could really do without the worry. Fingers crossed that it turns out to be nothing significant; thinking of you!

LoopyLa - how lovely to be going through it with your best friend! I used to dream about scenarios like that as a kid!

Zoe\gigglewizz - glad you're feeling happier about your boys! I'll have to wait until tomorrow night to see whether I'll have relief or shock and how I'll feel once the news sinks in.

Zoe - I hear you about the fissure. Mine seems ok as long as I'm regular and 'TMI ALERT' - 'soft'. Keeping my fibre/liquid levels up seems to keep everything soft & 'easy' enough to not re-open. Can you take Duclo-lax (or whatever it's called) and see if that helps to not have a daily re-open? I guess I'm just not thinking about the damage labour might do to anything - being a bit que sera sera - not much I can do about anything now! I do empathise as I know how they feel though and in the 1st trim I had a few heavy bleeds from mine. I must admit - in terms of specialist appts, I'm rather tempted to go private when time and high anxiety is a factor. I can't remotely afford it but I always think 'what price peace of mind?'. Hope you get some relief from it soon.

Londonmrss · 21/05/2012 15:55

Hello Part 5!
Angelico I really hope you get some answers. It just seems like in the future you'll be one of those reassuring women posting on other peoples worried threads and saying 'Yes, I had that symptom all the way through my pregnancy, and everything was absolutely fine.' You too CWest.
I've also been reading the hypnobirthing stuff. I'm very cynical about 'alternative' therapies and medicines (If they were scientifically proven, wouldn't we just call them 'medicine' rather than 'alternative medicine'?) BUT if you can get past that stuff, the philosophy is actually really interesting- there are diagrams of the muscles in the uterus explaining exactly how these muscles work to give birth- and how this shouldn't technically hurt. I think just believing that could go a long way to helping avoid the tension which causes the pain (placebo effect? Probably, but there's power in that). For example, most mammals, if under attack during labour, have a release of adrenalin prompting a 'fight or flight' reaction which essentially can stop their labour until they can get to safety. Therefore it's safe to assume that intense fear experienced in a human labour can do the same thing and actually work against you. So without a culture of fear, the whole process shouldn't hurt (obviously this is a bit black and white and doesn't account for complications and just personal preferences).
Anyway, I'm waffling- but I'd say it's worth a bit of research even if not full commitment (I won't be doing classes or anything).
In other news, I think I might be feeling a bit of movement. But it could just be wind.

dosomethingmutley · 21/05/2012 16:25

Just wanting to introduce myself and say hello /waves/ - Mickey and CWest you've made me feel slightly better about my 20 week scan which isn't until the 8th June - I feel like it's never going to get here so it's good to know there are others getting impatient out there too!

Londonmrss I managed to get DH to feel movements for the first time this morning and he said 'are you sure that isn't just you?' so now I'm paranoid that I got him all misty-eyed over feeling my trapped wind Hmm Pretty sure it was the bean having a good old rumpus though :)

dosomethingmutley · 21/05/2012 16:27

Oh, should probably have said I'm due 21st October! brain like a seive

FjordMor · 21/05/2012 16:28

LondonMrs & dosomethingmutley (welcome! btw Thanks - my DP always says to me, everytime I doubt something I'm feeling is the baby, "have you ever had a wind feeling like that before?" and usually I have to acknowledge that no, I haven't and therefore, he deduces, it must be the baby :).

DameFlatYouLent · 21/05/2012 17:33

Hi all, and welcome dosomething (great name!)

Scan was lovely this afternoon, very mobile baby (it's funny watching it bounce and feeling it simultaneously!) and all absolutely fine. It's funny, they put various measurements on centile lines, and most of the measurements were pretty much bang on 50th except for abdominal circumference, which was basically on the 95th line! I'm incubating a weeble!! Saw it do a big yawn and its lovely arms and legs...just all lovely. Then went with DH and DS and had a cream tea! Perfect afternoon.

Fjord & Zoe I was very interested to read about fissures. I tend to suffer with constipation and regularly get agonising spasms, but had never been to the doctor about it. I wonder if I have a fissure? Confused Nothing changed after DS's birth, so maybe it's not a fissure? Total horror at the prospect of how they might diagnose a fissure so maybe I'll live in blissful ignorance, or is that stupid?!

Beeblebear · 21/05/2012 17:38

Well, no painful gallbladder attacks last night after my overly bland bland rice carrots toast and watermellon diet yesterday. Having a bit of pb toast this morning as a bit of a test.

Little bean kicking away this norning too, so that's a big relief! Was able to feel a couple of them from the outside too so pretty soon if dh is patient enough, he should be able too.

30/18+3/#1

FjordMor · 21/05/2012 18:15

Beeblebear - I'm so sorry - what with the thread changeover I forgot to ask you about that. Did you go and get checked out? I'm glad the symptoms haven't persisted. Must have been reassuring that the LO is still kicking away :)

Dame - no gender then? Wink TMI warning for the anally-sensistive (look away now) Fissure (in my case) was diagnosed on anecdotal symptomatic evidence, doctor with glove on Shock Blush and, had I wanted it, Colonoscopy (I haven't got to that stage yet). For me the pain is as I pass a movement - it's like the movement is a knife cutting me just before it comes out is the only way I can describe it - followed by lots of cherry red blood in the loo. V painful & uncomfortable afterwards as well. Agonising spasms while not actually having movements and with no blood could well be IBS. I know a few family members who have suffered terribly with that. Seems ironic that we were discussing 'Anal joy' a few posts back! Wink Grin.

FjordMor · 21/05/2012 18:17

By the way of nothing...am just having my first try at making traditional Norwegian reindeer stew 'Finbiff'. It'll be a first taste and cook of reindeer for me. Wish me luck! :)
