Yes definately get funny looks when people find out about the pregnancy - most think i am completely bonkers or we must be catholic or ignorant re contraception.
Truth is, had oldest 3 with my first husband. Got divorced, met lovely DH and we decided to have one child together and then once he was born aware that nest oldest child in house nearly 10 years older so have taken the plunge again so he has someone closer in age. Plus I have really enjoyed having a little one around again. Very refreshing after teenage hormones, demands for money and lifts etc.
Older children in theory fairly self reliant so not as hard work as I imagine say 5 under 10yrs would be. Do a lot of washing though and feel like a school dinner lady at meal time !

mabel1973 · 26/02/2006 11:28

Angeliz _ I can totally relate to what you're saying.
I found out I pg just after DS 1st birthday and we have had comments such as ' so are you pleased then?' which I actually find quite rude and 'small gap isn't it'.
When you have one all people do is ask you when you're having the next one and then when you get pg they question it!
Some people seem to have this thing in their heads that you have one, then you wait 2 years and then have another then that's it.
Life isn't like though though is it - I'm with you and lexy - quite happily keep going and have a few more.
(Just need to buy lots of bunk beds!!)

curlygirl · 26/02/2006 12:37

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted for ages. I am having my nuchal scan on tuesday, 12 weeks approx. I have suddenly feltpanicy about the whole thing. My dd has been quite demanding lately, she is 15 mnths and teething, alsdo started having tantrums. I keep thinking how the hell am I going to cope? Also worrying that there will be something wrong with the beanie, dreading the scan in case it is bad news. Anyone else feel similarly?

calvemjoe · 26/02/2006 14:58

I'm really worried about the scan aswell, even though I had one at 7 weeks that showed a heartbeat and my little bump wriggles all day. I think it's natural to worry so just try to relax and enjoy it x

HellKat · 26/02/2006 15:36

Lexy- Fully understand regarding teenage hormones! My ds1 is 13 (will be 14 in May). Most of the time he's great but sometimes he truly is "Kevin the teen" .
Curly- Good luck for your scan hun, I'm sure everything will be fine.
I've got to make an appt tomorrow for Friday to have the heartbeat done and we're going to ask if we can have another scan (I miss seeing little one).

TopBanana · 26/02/2006 16:17

Someone just asked if I was pg!!!

Curly - try not to worry. Everything will be fine and I'm sure you'll cope just fine with 2

Can't believe everyone can feel their los moving, I can't

HellKat · 26/02/2006 17:19

Awww Top that's great!!!!
to me I look it but as dp pointed out, to the non suspecting public I could just have a beer guy
I have'nt felt proper kicks by no means just the occasional fluttery/bubbly feelings.

compo · 26/02/2006 18:31

My stomach is definitely sticking out and It's really hard trying to disguise it. None of my trousers fit but the maternity ones are too baggy! I'm very nervous about the 12 week scan ( a week tomorrow!!) but just want it over with so I can hopefully tell everyone I'm pregnant and perhaps, maybe, not worry so much!!

compo · 26/02/2006 18:32

P.S. We had to tell MIL as she is staying this weekend and I'm still feeling awful. Unfortunately she is talking about pushchairs etc already when really I didn't want to talk about anything to do with the pregnancy/baby until after the scan (in real life that is!!).

calvemjoe · 26/02/2006 18:45

Compo, my inlaws are completely the opposite. My sil is trying and they have taken me getting pg as a personal insult. It wld be nice if my nearest and dearest could be happy for me and dh but they won't even mention it. Had to tell them incase I needed help with ds when the migraines hit.
Was made to feel guilty when pg with ds as well. Was warned by mil that she wld 'f*cking kill me' if I ruined sil wedding day by telling everyone (was 11 weeks, had no intention of telling a soul), and then she kept telling everyone we were trying to make the best of a big mistake
But having said that, inlaws always seem to do the opposite to what you want them to do!

Princessemma · 26/02/2006 21:21

Symptoms- always tired, sore/huge breasts
Cravings- dark chocolate, rice crispies

Had Booking appointment with GP, according to her scales I've put on no weight. I love those scales because all my clothes feel tight.
Told everyone about baby no 2 including DD (is that short for first child?) she's happy but keeps asking when she can play with the baby. Who is going to find out the sex? I am not I didn't with my daughter.

bramblina · 26/02/2006 21:47

Sorry, am not pregnant (anymore!) but just wanted to say hi to bella23 and have finally found you, good to hear everything's going well for you. After I jumped in last time I found you I went over to the thread I'd started in order to find you but you didn't come with me! Anyway, good luck.

HellKat · 27/02/2006 08:16

Morning all.
Cal- My parents are odd to say the least about my pg's. My mum actually seemed to be worse. They were'nt to pleased about ds2 ( even though the y love him to bits now)and my dad will probably be less than happy about this one. But hey ho, at least my in laws are over the moon lol.
How's everyone feeling today?
I was really hoping this tiredness would be shifting by now but this morning I feel like I've not slept at all. Ohhh I'm looking forward to crashing out for an hour or so later

puppy · 27/02/2006 09:47

Morning all, hope you all had a good weekend!
Welcome lysettes, lexyb and princessemma and congratulations, and congratulations to all that are over 12 weeks and had good scans Smile
lysettes I put a link to the jeans further down page.
kk hope your feeling better.
Not been on all weekend as DS and I started with a stomach bug on friday evening, all well now. Nothing much to report but I feel so unpregnant at the moment hardly any symptoms so can't wait to see the midwife in a couple of weeks and get a dating scan booked, feels like ages away. 10+3 weeks today.

Bella23 · 27/02/2006 09:52

Morning all

Bramblina - arh, thanks for the good thought. Sorry didn't see another thread where you were looking for me, I'm a rude cow aren't I Smile!

Well mangaged to spend most of the weekend.....SLEEPING! Woke up on Saturday and was up for a max of 2 hours before I had to go and lie down and went straight back to sleep for another 2 hours. Its really weird, its like having a hangover with none of the joy of any booze the night before!

Well a week today is my scan and the count down begins.......hoorah!!

Hope eveyone is having a good Monday so far...

mabel1973 · 27/02/2006 10:26

Hi all

Hope evryones having a good morning morning :)
Managed to finally get my Nando's last night - delicious! and a trip to the cinema to see 'Walk the Line'.
Calvemjoe am Shock at your MIL attitude towards your pg!!! I know my MIL drives me nuts - but at least I know she's pleased. Sorry to be so blunt but she sounds like a right cow!

I have got a midwife app this afternoon - not sure why as I have had booking in, bloods etc done and I am sure I didn't start ante natal checks till I was 20 weeks or so with DS.
Am hoping she'll have a listen for the heartbeat though. I will give me sme reassurance and get me through this ' not feeling pg' phase

curlygirl · 27/02/2006 10:33

Thanks for the positive vibes, I just can't wait for the scan to be done tomorrow and fingers crossed everything will be OK. It is my MIL birthday tomorrow so we are going to pop in to visit her after the scan and hopefully have some good news to tell her. She absolutely dotes on DD so it will be really exciting to give her the news of baby no2. Everyone in my family will be shocked as they think dd was going to be an only child. Actually so did we because we took ages to concieve dd and everyone had given up hope of us having a family at all. It is really great to hear some of you have had scans already with good news, hugs to those that haven't been so fortunate.

Normsnockers · 27/02/2006 11:20

LexyB

Can I ask which medication you are on for sickness as I have been on valoid (a.k.a. cyclizine) since week 4 but it does not appear to be working very well.

Had the same drug injected into my bum muscles (somewhat surprised that they found those muscles under the layer of fat) in hospital and it seemed to work better but I can't stay in a hospital bed ad infinitum and they discharged me with tablet form again on Thurs afternoon.

Am feeling very nauseous again today and could easliy throw up if I coughed or yawned or exerted myself too much. The hospital consultant on the ward mentioned another drug to try if the valoid didn't work (something they give to chemotherapy patients to stop them being sick) and I'm thinking of giving it a try as I don't seem to have the ability to cope with cooking proper food for my ds (food smells make me throw up) and my dh is moaning that I should be getting better due to the drugs and the hospital stay.

No sign of Homemama yet, please say hello on this thread if you are out of hospital and stop us worrying about you.

Hello to everyone else.

compo · 27/02/2006 11:47

calvemjoe - you poor thing, what an awful MIL!!
Normsnockers - sorry to hear you're still suffering.
Bella - I'm counting down the days til next Monday too Smile

calvemjoe · 27/02/2006 12:23

Mabel, yes she is a cow, but ds hates her too and I trust his instincts!

Hope everyone is having a good monday, not feeling sick, and blooming! x

mabel1973 · 27/02/2006 16:00

Hi all,

I saw my midwife today, she actually rang me and came over to the house. All she wanted to talk about was the screening tests for Downs and Spina bifida. I had the blood tests done last time and came back low risk, although I found he anxiety of waiting for the results quite hard.
I notice quite a few people are opting for the nuechal scan - can I ask what prompted you to get a scan done as well?
is it purely on your age? (not wanting to be too nosey...)
She aslo gave me a leaflet on bresatfeeding, as alsthough I bf DS, she said things had changed with regards to breastfeeding since then - which I found a little strange...surely you either do or you don't? Am I being thick?!!

LexyB · 27/02/2006 16:02

Normsknockers

I have been on Maxolon ( also called Metachlopromide ) 15mg twice a day ( the slow release tablets ) since about 5 weeks in this pregnancy and the previous one. In my first 3 pregs had HG, hospitalised and had fluids several times and treated with Avomine ( an antihistimine similar to Phenergan )which worked a bit.
Last time very understanding female GP (and a mum of 5 ) gave me Maxolon and i was only sick approx 1-2 times a day, so for me a pretty good result. Similar this time, maybe slightly better as I have been of work for last 7 weeks so less tired than last time. The advice is " care in pregnancy " but to be honest i was not prepared to put up with such awful sickness again and it was my decision to take it. I am a midwife and have seen it used many times in early preg and it is commonly prescribed in hospital units. Hope this helps.

First day back at work - it was so nice to begin to feel i'm getting my life back again

Coriander73 · 27/02/2006 16:42

Scan tommorrow :)

Started the day feeling ok but am feeling really sick again...on & up eh

Normsnockers · 27/02/2006 16:53

LexyB

Thanks for the info.

Does Maxalon still leave you feeling very queasy all day ?

Does your sickness get a bit better after the first trimester. Mine didn't go away but was more manageable after the first trimester.

Woodelf · 27/02/2006 17:36

Hi all,

Don't feel so sicky today but the last time I said that it came back with a vengeance. Was able to cook roast chicken last night but I can't seem to get the smell out of the house!!
Scan again tomorrow when nearly 11 weeks. Seems my nuchal fold scan and booking in appt are not till the 20th March - seems a long way off but hey, so far so good. Have never got this far with pg before so can't help but get a bit excited. No 'bubbles' or movement of the beanie yet but ever hopeful.

Welcome to all newcomers, there's gonna be a bumper crop this september Grin
