Put my skirt on this morning and forgot that a week (or 2) is a long time in the space of a baby bump. Think this may be a farewell wear for my skirt... :(

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 08:59

Oh yes MissLaughalot the spotty stage. I complained to DH the other day, saying I was covered in spots & he was like 'yeah, you had it with DD too...' I honestly hadn't remembered Confused

Evilwater · 04/05/2012 09:26

Has anyone's nipples got very sensitive and HUGE????
Omg getting into bed last night was awful, I couldn't get comfterable at all.
I'm still feeling very tired still.

I'm 16 weeks next week, and I havn't received any letters for my appointment ( everyone in the major hospital, and the other hospital send out letters) phoned the centre and the mums have to book a appointment. So I'm seeing a different midwife.

I've just had a thought, is this a cardnial sin??

Now I'm off to google to find the centre, the woman on the phone said do you know this school? No, we havn't had a child in my family for over 20years. Oh was the reply. Should have asked where the nearest pub is.

Congrats to all the scans,
Ew

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 10:05

EW yes, they look like raspberries Blush All 'normal' though.

Question about the combined screening.

I've been given all my blood forms and my scan is in the afternoon. From the look of the form, they need to put scan details about the NT on there, so I assume you have the scan then do the bloods. Anyone else have this?

Trying to check with midwife, but can't get through to the community team, there isn't a number on the hospital website for the antenatal ultrasound dept & I think you might have to book to have the bloods taken at that hospital's phlebotomy dept. Anyone have any experience of this? Don't want to do it the wrong way around iyswim...

kirrinIsland · 04/05/2012 10:09

Hi chunky yes, I have come across you on a loss thread before.

I have a small bump but I think it's mostly haribo. I also have the spottiest chin you've ever seen just occurred to me the two might be related

Could someone please add me to the list - I can't do it on the iPad:

kirrinIsland DC2 (34) EDD 7/11/12

Though I think I'll hold out til the 10th - 10/11/12 has a nice ring to it!

kirrinIsland · 04/05/2012 10:11

chunky at my hospital you have your scan and then go to the blood taking dept. You don't to book, just take a number and wait for hours

Evilwater · 04/05/2012 10:13

Chicken- my bloods were done first at my GP, and the scan was done at the hospital. Both were booked at my 8 week appointment.

My results for the combined scan came at the end of the scan. I have a print out of the results.

As for getting in touch with the hospital see if you can get to the switchboard, and they should be able to give you the local number.

NervousAt20 · 04/05/2012 10:18

Morning all :)

chunky I had my NT yday and I had the scan first and the midwife filled out the blood forms in the room and then gave them to the lady who took the bloods in the ultrasound/antenatal department and we just got called through when it was our turn and only had to wait about 20min or so. I thought id had to go and wait in the main hosp blood department but they have their own little room to do it there and then. Hope that helps

kirrin 10/11/12 does have a nice ring to it

Good luck to all the ladies with scans today, fingers crosse for more smiley faces!

ShellyBobbs · 04/05/2012 10:20

Evil I have to use a special microfibre towel because I can't even wrap a normal towel round me due to my sensitive nips :)

I've used my total fatigue well this week, have read the trilogy of Hunger Games to the absolute disgust of my eldest who thinks she should have read it first.

Whoever said they are always hungry, I'm the same. Last night I had my tea and luckily I had made a slow cooker full so went back and filled my plate up more than the first time. When I go out I also have to take a bag full of food with me, I'll be the size of a house soon :)

Good luck with any scans in the next couple of days.

ValiumQueen · 04/05/2012 11:13

I am so glad I am at the top of the list. With DD2 I was due late in the month and felt very alone towards the end as everyone else was on the post natal thread. Of course as I will be having an early section I may well find myself alone on the post-natal thread instead!

Been driving myself bonkers thinking about if I need a double. DD2 will be 2.5 when this one arrives, and I will be doing all the school runs once healed, so in Scotland it will be cold, wet, and possibly snowy. Not sure it would be fair to make a little tot be on her feet for 40 minutes twice a day in those conditions. I would only need a double for winter realistically.

Cacacaz · 04/05/2012 11:15

Could someone please add my stats (on phone so can't do it myself)

Cacacaz (29) DC1 EDD 04/11/12

My goodness hormones have a hell of a lot to answer for, I've just been blubbing because one of my friends sent me a picture of her little huge baby boy he was a whopping 10lb 5oz. I appear to have absolutely no control over my emotions this last week, So far I have cried while watching several programme on tv and once I start I can't seem to stop Blush

Good luck to everyone who has a scan today Smile

I have given up with my ordinary jeans and succumbed to the comfort of the maternity jeans I bought from Dorothy Perkins, they are amazingly comfortable Grin

I can empathise re spots, mine are huge, very red and angry looking and sadly not just limited to chin Sad. My concealer is my best friend right now!

NervousAt20 · 04/05/2012 11:17

valium would you consider one of them stand things on wheels that goes at the back of the push chair just in front of you or will your DD be too small for this?

Cacacaz · 04/05/2012 11:21

Valium of I were you I would invest in a double. At work I use a baby jogger double, which is suitable from birth and is very easy to push, the kids I look after were newborn and 2.5 and have to walk nearly 5 miles a day between school and nursery, it is also fantastic to fold so very easy! The other alternative is a buggy board which I have used in the past, the only complaint I have about it is that it can be awkward to manoeuvre.

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 11:36

I'm also sending myself mad about the double buggy thing Valium as my DD will be 2y6m possibly 7m if this baby arrives late... She wants to walk more and more now, but as we're moving, I'm not sure whether we'll be walking as far as we do currently. I walk a good 2 miles to a toddler group on Wed and its far too far for her to walk, but when we move, I won't be walking there (but I might be walking to slightly closer things...). If its nap time on the way home too, it might be awkward if we only have a single. Grrrrr. So hard to know!! In the summer, a buggy board might be ok, but a winter baby complicates matters!!!

And thanks everyone - I thought it must be a standard thing and assumed that I would find out when I turned up at antenatal, but with the way the NHS/my hospital can be, I didn't want to get moaned at by some grumpy old bitch biddy on reception and find out I should have had bloods done elsewhere/another day. Especially as they've fairly recently changed the policy for booking-in at the hospital phlebotomy department (it used to be drop in, and think some things are still drop-in) - my local minor injuries hospital has a lovely drop-in phlebotomy department, but they only do mornings, so if I had to have bloods taken there, it would be Thursday morning after the scan and I'd need to take time off work. I guess I'll have to try to ring antenatal - either through the switchboard or wait until I get home and can check the scan letter for the number. Just want to put my mind at rest.

Thanks everyone though!

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 11:38

Plus, I don't think we could get a buggy board on my current buggy, so I would need to buy a new one of those anyway, so a double might be a better investment until DD is grown-out of needing a buggy/buggy board and we can use our current pram with DC#2.

goldene · 04/05/2012 11:46

Had my scan this morning, all well! Initial risk for downs 1 in 47 but taking into account the measurements etc from the ultrasound and the bloods the risk is now low at 1 in 943! I am so relieved and happy. Baby looking very cute, as they do. Waved arms and legs around. Adding myself to the lists.

DesperateHousewife21 · 04/05/2012 12:00

Yay for good scans!

I'm also trying to decide on double buggy, ds will be 2.4 by then hmm.

Also I was watching a fab pair of jeans and jumper on eBay (maternity) and was outbid in the last 10 secs, I felt v v angry and emotional. Damn hormones!

ShellyBobbs · 04/05/2012 12:50

I'd definitely advise a double for anyone even pondering. I got one when my second was younger even though my eldest HATED going in a trolley. She didn't mind that one though as she was sat next to her brother who she adored. They still fit through doors and if the older one does want to walk for a bit, you've got extra space for shopping :) Would advise car boots / ebay to try if you're really not sure, you can get some right bargains for nearly new ones.

Not getting ahead of myself at all, but I've only got 25 weeks and 4 days until I finish work YAY! Haven't worked out what that is in shifts yet with all the holidays I've just shoved in for school holidays :)

ValiumQueen · 04/05/2012 13:02

Double it is then. Thank you for all your advice. Now which one? Anyone got a favourite? A buggy board would be cruel in the winter, plus if she is strapped in she is less likely to escape. I just fear for the poking so maybe a phil and ted? But they seem so plasticky and fragile. I am a regular at car boots and charity shops, and love ebay (mostly). Still buy a lottery ticket each week too.

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 13:19

I don't particularly like the baby underneath the toddler style of the phil and ted's from the brief looks I've had - my then 1yo DD refused to go in the bottom when a couple of friends of ours were trying their's out: they had a nearly 2yo DS and their DD had been born at 24+wks so definitely needed a double but didn't have a second to go in it quite yet iyswim. DD hated being underneath, but she wasn't a newborn, so maybe its easier if they're used to it?

Unfortunately, I think most doubles that aren't side by side are like that though. My friend has a Jane one that she got on the Preloved website, which seems pretty good, and has them in a line, rather on top of each other. Think that model is £500+ new though and you need a new car seat to use on it etc. so it all starts adding up. In an ideal world, I would keep my car seat, but the pram we have (a Britax, which I love!) has a britax car seat and isn't useful on others. Other ones you can obviously have the maxi cosi or whatever, which is transferrable.

My sister borrowed a friend's double buggy the other week to go shopping with her DS who's 4 and with my DD (2) so I guess it'll be useful for quite a while regardless. It is a bit of a pet peeve of mine though, when I see 2 parents pushing a nearly school age child around a shopping centre - I always think why aren't they walking?!!! Its not like you've got a gaggle of kids to handle - 1 pre-schooler is easy! Especially if they have a dummy in too!!! But's that probably just me...

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 13:27

Have been incredibly lazy this week. Just cannot be bothered to do any work at home and at school, doing the barest minimum (the advantage of free periods in an office, nobody notices the Mumsnet commentary... and in fact, the advtange of having a ppt frozen on the screen and half the class on a trip Wink ) and know that it will come back and bite me on the bum later, when deadlines approach. I have elected to invite my HOD/mate out for a hot choc at M&S instead of working this afternoon, as we have an early finish on Friday's, whilst my DSis looks after my DD. Lazy, selfish, irresponsible? Perhaps. Do I care?!! Grin

Chunkychicken · 04/05/2012 13:27

Great news Goldene btw :)

Cacacaz · 04/05/2012 13:45

Goldene that is wonderful news

I like the baby jogger city mini, personally, and if I needed a double that is the buggy I would buy. It is reasonably light, manoeuvres well, both children have plenty of space and don't looked cramped. I have a friend who uses a mountain buggy and she quite likes it too. I have never tried any other double, so can't comment.

I would recommend going to a pram shop and trying a few out, even just pushing them around the shop and fiddling about with them to give you an idea of what will suit you best.

goldene · 04/05/2012 13:58

Thanks everyone! Skiving completely today, took a while at the hospital and when my daughter comes home from school we are going to take her out for a special "big sister" bit of cake and coffee. I want to make her feel that she will have a very special role to play for the baby.
