Jenbird - fantastic news! So pleased for you! Yay!

Horseylady - hope tomorrow isn't too upsetting. Hug.

DonnaDoon · 16/04/2012 19:51

Luckily I wont need to buy anything except some brand new vests, grows and muslin squares.

Evilwater · 16/04/2012 19:54

Wow we can post.
I'm now week 13 and in maternity trousers! They are very comfortable!! My due date is 20/10. Not feeling so sick, but still having nausea.

This weekend I have finished my level 2 work, (thank fuck!) the tutor has been very slow marking and it has been a struggle. My dad has eye surgery this weekend so I helped my mum with him.

I picked up my new car too!!!!!!!!!!
It's fan-bloody tasic!!!!!! Best buy ever!!!

Tomorrows agenda, well the power will be out all day. So I'm going to look in charity shops for baby stuff. I don't want to buy anything just incase I jinx it.
Now to read all your posts.

FatimaLovesBread · 16/04/2012 20:04

I've picked most of my things but don't want to buy anything too early.

We've picked the pushchair and we're getting the lie flat carrycot so will be using that downstairs instead of a carrycot. I'd rather the baby be laid flat than scrunched in a car seat, and I know recommendations are no longer than 2 hours at the most in a car seat so the carrycot would be a lot better for us. We've shopped around and found the cheapest/best deal, just need to order it.

Car seat and base we'll be getting from boots as it's the best price and you get extra points.

Bouncy/vibrating chair

Play mat...I want a certain one from mamas and papas but we've seen it on offer

Cot is being made for us

Bedding, will buy some sheets but mainly going to use grobags

Just going to get some drawers and shelves from ikea, not going to bother with a baby wardrobe, I won't be hanging anything up

Have also joined plenty of mother and baby clubs to get some freebies. And the company I work for makes nappy rash cream so think i might stock up on some supplies Grin

NervousAt20 · 16/04/2012 21:11

Congratulations jenbird Grin

Little9 · 16/04/2012 22:21

Sorry to lose you Kat. Fingers crossed there'll be good news soon.

Yay, great news, Jen.

Horsey Hope you get through tomorrow ok. My thoughts will be with you.

Not much to report from this end. Won't have to buy too much as my sister has saved all her stuff and got a few friends who will be donating baby stuff, so probably only new mattress for cot and moses basket, and some bedroom furniture as nursery is currently being used as a study. Won't be changing it until after 20 weeks though just in case there are any complications.

blonderthanred · 16/04/2012 22:33

Couldn't sleep at all last night, read the whole of Salmon Fishing In The Yemen. Shattered at work and couldn't wait for my bed which is where I am now.

Today my dear lodger's gf has come back from Australia after several months. You can imagine I was a bit concerned about my sleep being disturbed tonight for various reasons...

Anyway she seemed v jetlagged so I was hoping they might go straight to sleep but now my DBro (who also lives here & is lodger's best friend) has brought a female friend back and they are all having a super time chatting and laughing. With DH.

I am VERY grumpy now. Just go away and let me sleep!

Just needed to have a whinge...

applepieinthesky · 16/04/2012 22:34

chunkychicken - I was told to avoid peanuts by my midwife because I have asthma and there is someone in the family with a nut allergy.

Horsey - I'll be thinking of you tomorrow x

ItalaItala · 16/04/2012 22:50

Evening All

jen Hooray for the good news

Horsey hope you can hold it together and it all goes ok for you tomorrow - I am sure nobody will mind if you don't

We wwill not be buying anything either as have lots of neutral stuff (we didn't find out for either DDs). Who is making the cot for you Fatima, we have a cradle DH's father made for his first grandchild (we just had the disscussion about where/how to store it until grandchildren when we BFP Blush ) It is lovely to have somethin g like that - only one of the next generation has not been in it (the nephew who was born 10 days after DD1).

nappy cream - I still have the lrge pot I bought for DD1 - neither DD needed it, DH has used more of it than they have for sweat rash on his feet!

grobags - I didn't see the point with DD1 (although I used them as we given them) but they have been SOOOOO useful with DD2 who just wriggles and squirms around the cot all night and with an average room temp of 9 over winter at least she kept some covers on her!

Thankyou for the advice (sorry I cannot remember who said it) but I called the hosp and have been able to bring my scan forward to thurs 11.25. So hopefully I will have an EDD by the end of the week Grin

Stuntnun · 16/04/2012 22:52

Applepie the current consensus is that there is no evidence to support avoiding peanuts in pregnancy. At one point all pregnant women were told to avoid peanuts if there was any family history of allergies. Despite this advice being given for years there was no clear statistical effect on the prevalence of allergies. So the current advice is that peanuts are fine. However I will avoid peanuts in pregnancy and breastfeeding (apart from one slip up with hot nuts at five weeks!) because lack of statistical evidence does not necessarily mean there isn't a causal effect.

DesperateHousewife21 · 17/04/2012 07:56

Morning all, I've taken to feeling my tummy everyday now to see if it's grown anymore, I can feel where my uterus is its quite exciting!

Chunkychicken · 17/04/2012 08:03

I don't know of anyone in my family that has a nut allergy, so with DD I avoided them like the plague just in the hope she wouldn't get the debilitating asthma I had as a child & my niece has. My sis avoided peanuts too, & yet her eldest has hayfever & her middle child has the asthma. DD has taken it upon herself to eat nuts on occassion, so, so far, so good there, no allergies or choking!!

Just not sure if I want to do the whole 'check the ingredients like mad' thing again. Also, a friend's children has severe allergies (peanuts & milk) and they were invited to take part in a study where they would get exposure to small amounts of the allergen, which was appearing to have success a little while ago. I mean, I expect my friend avoided peanuts like mad, when pg with the youngest as her eldest has the peanut allergy, and she had anaphalactic shock from formula at 9wks, due to her milk allergy... Sometimes, you can't odds it.

ItalaItala · 17/04/2012 08:09

DH21 how exciting - wish I was thin enough to do that, I am all podge (tho yesterday eve DH said I looked properly pg for the first time)

I feel sick today - DD2 came in with us at 2.30/3am and so haven't had much sleep. I am dreading the school run as it is raining and we live on a very steep hill (it takes about 45mins round trip)..... moan moan moan sorry

blonderthanred · 17/04/2012 09:01

Oh dear, I've been happily enjoying PB on toast as it is one of the few things I can stomach when I'm feeling sick.

I hope I haven't done any harm...

Elizadoesdolittle · 17/04/2012 09:23

I've been having the odd piece of toast with peanut butter. I probably shouldn't really as dh has a peanut allergy, not a serious one. They just make him sick. I did avoid them in my first pregnancy and dd at 2.3 has only just started having them and she's been fine.

Re grobags, I absolutely love them. DD has been so happy in hers and they are so easy. Hopefully the next one will like them too but I know not all babies get on with them.

I'm not even at the thinking of buying anything stage let alone buying anything! Im impressed how organised some of you are. Mind you I think I was too when pregnant with DD. Once I've had my 12 wk scan and DD's new room is sorted I'll get everything out of the loft and see what I actually need.

I'm afraid I have no advice re bad back. I had a really bad one when I was around 6 wks. I could hardly move and did nothing about it so I'm not a very good example.

itlia glad you managed to get your scan date moved.

TheDetective · 17/04/2012 09:44

I did the school run this morning.

I feel dead.

I agree chunky I have decided not to read ingredients labels every five minutes. I stay away from the obvious runny cheeses and alcohol but other than that I am eating peanut butter and still really enjoying it.

Thanks fruit for your experience with the sling. My SIL had one and it looked brilliant. I think the school run would be infinitely esier with one.

Going back to work on thursday and dreading it. Work is not great anyway but nausea, tiredness and the stress of having to tell them I am preggers makes it ten times worse. I have just changed roles and offices and currently have two bosses. I don't think they are going to be thrilled.

Roll an mat leave..

TheDetective · 17/04/2012 10:13

Oh FFS.

Vomited. And a horrible stabbing through the stomach one where you can't stop retching after for aaaaages. It was so painful.

And I emailed the Matron last night telling her how I was feeling much better and hoped to be back to work at the end of my sick note.

Spoke too early. Serves me right.

On a more amusing note. The dog is currently running in her sleep. Tis very funny to watch Grin

NervousAt20 · 17/04/2012 10:14

morning :)

detective lie back and relax sounds like the best plan to me Grin

Does anyone else suddenly look so pale? No matter how much sleep I have alot or how much fruit I eat I still look too pale!

Passmethecrisps · 17/04/2012 11:11

morning all,

well, history appointment was not bad this morning. Midwife reckons I am low risk so home birth may be a possibility.

However, taking blood was impossible so I have to go to triage later for them to have a go. Two different midwives tried and I am aching now. Anyway, I have contacted work and told them that I won't be in until much later - I figure one badly interrupted day is better than two half days.

I am chuffed to have had the appointment though - one step closer to getting a scan date. She told me it would be in the next two weeks.

In other news, I have been eating peanut butter and finding it delicious. I read somewhere that exposure during the developmental phase can make allergies much less likely. In all honesty, a wee spread on toast is unlikely to cause issues surely. I think you could turn yourself in knots trying to work out what is okay and what isn't.

nervous I haven't noticed being any paler than usual but I shall go and look at myself now . . .

ShellyBobbs · 17/04/2012 11:25

Good morning my ever expanding 'virtual' preggers friends :)

Got up this morning, looked in the mirror and jumped in fright, I had mistaken my reflection for a tramp that had a passion for sleeping in full olive oil barrels, oh the shame! I know you are supposed to have a glow about you when pregnant, but it seems to have by-passed me and just left a 'slick'.

Today's craving seems to be very buttery current tea-cakes, twas' the first thing that popped into my little bird brain when I woke up. I was queuing up with the old dears at Morrison's cafe straight after the school run this morning and I delighted with the licking of butter of my even more greasy hands, I think the lady that brought my food thought there was a couple of us, but behold my surprised food maker, it is all just for me and the growing bean, keep it coming tea-cake toaster!

I'm off for a very large bubble bath, I have bought the roughest exfoliating sponge I could find, some body scrub and will be filling that tub with the cheapest, nastiest bubble bath that I could find to try to dry out this oleaginous skin of mine.

TTFN Grin

GTbaby · 17/04/2012 12:36

Good afternoon folks. So glad I had a easy day at work today. Only 2 out of 6 lessonsGrin

Was very proud of myself last night. In bed by 9.30. Lights out at 11 after a bit of MN reading.

Untill DH woke me at 12.30. Was so angry. And he is out with his friends tonight so can expect the same again Sad

So tiered this morning. Felt like Envy by time I got to work. But my best friend salt and vinegar crisps managed to (just) settle my stomach.

Really looking forward to my scan tomorrow. But wish it was a little later in the day so I could have a Lay in.

Off to canteen to find some food. As all I bought in my lunch box are a choc moose, pear n baby bell lol

Starting to feel a bit less Envy all the time though still get waves now and then. Have gained 4 lbs already but apparently you should expect to gain between 2-5 lbs in first trimester so not worrying too much.

Am really nervous about getting my scan. Dont remember feeling this nervous first time round but just praying everything will be ok on scan day and there will really be a heartbeat and a baby there. I know rationally with the spots, sickness, tiredness etc its probably ok as the symptoms are showing but still until you see that image its hard not to worry! Good luck to everyone on scan day!
