Valium I know exactly what you mean. I've refused tests as I told them it would make no difference to me, and as you, my age would give me a high probability anyway. Also like you I've now read a lot of the threads about the poor families who have found chromosomal abnormalities and have looked them up so it does give you something to think about.

On the bright side my mum was 42 when she had my (older) younger sister and 44 when she had my youngest sister, the only problems were due to her being rhesus negative and both needing a blood transfusion, but obviously that was absolutely nothing to do with her age.

My hubby thinks I'm being melodramatic when I told him just yesterday that I'm not getting anything until after the 20 week scan, he wanted to buy the pram yesterday and he is more excited about this little baba than when I was pregnant with the other 3 :) He says I'm being miserable.

It's a worrying time for us mums, but we'll soon be glowing and very large :)

horseylady · 23/04/2012 11:43

Vallium my thoughts exactly! I think the mw was a bit shocked but she also said anything major would be picked up. To be honest my friend had the test came back really low and her boy had downs. Second Baby she didn't bother and I think her experience made my decision for me.

I've bought nothing so far!! I'm amazed my mother hasn't yet!!

Stuntnun · 23/04/2012 11:57

I think your reaction would depend on what was found. With Downs the child has every likelihood of a happy life whereas I think with Edwards the survival is measured in weeks. It has to come down to personal preference. I would like to know whether there was a high risk of Downs but I wouldn't take any further action e.g. Amniocentesis. On the other hand I would love to be able to know whether this one has ADHD or Aspergers like DS1 but we may not know for years.

We do the combined test in this trust, so its not age alone that gives the result, & I'm having it all!!! Friends of ours had to have a termination as a result of the NT test, & she was only early 20s at the time, as the life expectancy wasn't much beyond pg, if it got to 40wks, & the baby would suffer. I would rather know one way or the other in advance & make an informed (as informed as you can be) decision. Will cross the amnio bridge if we come to it...

Feeling much less sick again today so of course worrying now!!! Grrr. Ages until my scan too :(

GTbaby · 23/04/2012 13:06

Omg these grapes taste amazing.

LittleLolly · 23/04/2012 13:08

Had my scan and all is well! Baby was wriggling around for us, so cute. Got a fab picture, can see everything so clearly :)

I have chosen to have the NT test, nuchal fold measured 2.4 mm and had my bloods taken today. I think 2.4mm is classed as 'normal'.

Good luck to everyone else having scans this week :)

ShellyBobbs · 23/04/2012 13:11

Fantastic news LittleL

GT I've got some (more) really big fat juicy strawberries in the fridge, they are yummy. Can't buy any more grapes for a bit, I ate 2 full punnets to myself last time and gave myself the shits. Grin

ValiumQueen · 23/04/2012 13:18

Great news little!

I had my first at 37 and my second the day before my 41st and they are both fine.

My DB has just been diagnosed with Aspergers in his late 40s. Thankfully detection and help is better these days.

WelshSuprise · 23/04/2012 13:46

Hi ladies,

I have just come across your thread and wanted to say hello :)

I am 32 and pregnant with third lo ! Was an accident as we had NO plans for another baby but hey ho, these things happen and am thrilled now the panic has passed lol

I already have 2 DDs ( 9 and 3 )

I am 12+4 wks according to my dates and I am due around the 5th November but I am having a dating scan on Thursday to confirm and check everything is ok xx

I hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread but its always nice to be able to talk about things with other mums around the same stage in pregnancy :)

WestWinger · 23/04/2012 13:51

Great news LittleLolly!

Hello, WelshSuprise - congratulations! I'm due 5th Novemeber too!

Chunkychicken · 23/04/2012 13:53

Great news LittleL :)

applepieinthesky · 23/04/2012 14:01

Hi Welsh Welcome to the thread.

Well done Lolly that must have been lovely to see.

I went for the meal last night even though I felt awful, got home and chucked up everything I had just eaten. Thankfully feeling better today, no sickness but I've now got a rotten cold. When am I going to start glowing???

Stuntnun · 23/04/2012 14:31

Welcome Welsh we're all very friendly here so join on in!

Apple I want to start glowing too Angry I look like a ghost... a fat ghost!

Our trust does combined screening too which I am pleased about as it gives a more accurate reading. I would definetley go ahead with a CVS or amnio too but hopefully it won't come to that! blonder I was 35 when I gave birth to my DD and I had an extremley low risk of downs with her. So don't let me start panicing you! Anyway, I'll stop with the depressing talk. I just wanted to know if anyone was as nervous about it as me but I know we all have our various worries about pregnancy related things. Seems to be part and parcel of motherhood!

Congrats on your successful scan littlelolly and welcome to the thread welshsurprise

FatimaLovesBread · 23/04/2012 14:56

Afternoon everyone. I've got 190 posts to catch up on so thought i'd post first.

I managed to move the 12 weeks scan to Mon 14th May when i'll be 12+3. I'll add myself to the list shortly.
The midwife cancelled my appointment on friday so I'm just waiting to hear about another one.
DHs cricket season started this weekend so that's 6 months of me being a cricket widow started Grin

Is anyone else feeling really lazy/no energy? I have a day off today. Planned to potter around the house and do some jobs. I sorted all my drawers out on Saturday in to things I wont be able to wear for a while, and things I havent been able to fit in for a while despite wishful thinking. I planned to sort the things I don't want anymore but they're still sat in the spare room.
I have done a grand total of naff all! Well i've put a load of washing on and emptied and refilled the dishwasher but that's it. There's loads of jobs but I just don't have the energy/can't be arsed

I think I have the start of a proper bump, it's starting to bulge just above my pubic bone, especially when I need a wee or by the end of the day. My bloatiness seems to have gone down too

WelshSuprise · 23/04/2012 15:00

Thanks for the warm welcomes :)

Has anybody else got boobies like boils ??! They hardly changed with my 1st two until the end of the pregnancy but these have grown rather rapidly from day 1 Shock Not that I'm complaining as its nice to have something there as I am quite flat chested lol

I have been in maternity clothes ( bottoms ) for the last week....got some gorgeous jeans in the seraphine sale and a fab pair of bamboo wide leg trousers that were melba rrp £ 35 but found a lady on ebay selling them brand new for £8.00 ! They are high waisted aswell so will be perfect after I have the c-section x

The sickness is virtually gone for me now apart from the odd dry heave first thing in the morning ( normally when brushing my teeth ) ....I am sooo tired though and I'm already on 3 iron tablets a day so am being monitored to see if I need the dreaded bum injection !! Hope not x

Stuntnun · 23/04/2012 15:03

Does anyone know what week you're supposed to see the midwife between the 12 and 20 week scans? I have an appointment for week 13 which seems too early and will be before my 12 week scan (at 14 weeks) which seems like the wrong date to me.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 23/04/2012 15:11

Hello Welsh!

Stunt - I've been told to make an appointment to see midwife at 16 weeks. And then nothing until 28 weeks! Apparently because it's my second this is normal. Seems like a bloody long time to me!

Still feeling pretty rotten here, really fed up of this bit. I did get an maternity dress delivered today from seraphine, which has cheered me up because it is totally gorgeous. AND works with or without bump so will get my money's worth!

We're having all the screening tests. I wouldn't be happy not knowing as much as I can.

Quite tempted by the doppler now! Looked on ebay and I can't find them as cheap as £19 though!

WestWinger · 23/04/2012 15:14

Stuntnun - in my area it's 16 weeks.

Fatima - I hear you on the lack of energy front!! Currently horizontal on the sofa when I should be cleaning......

FatimaLovesBread · 23/04/2012 15:21

I've just eaten half a bag of chocolate raisins (can I count them as fruit) whilst watching A Cinderella Story Grin

Stuntnun · 23/04/2012 15:23

Thanks, I think they were supposed to put me in for the start of June but got May by mistake. I'll rearrange it then.

OP posts:
WelshSuprise · 23/04/2012 15:29

Stunt, I had a booking in appointment last week at 12 weeks, scan this week and a screening test at 16 weeks. Because I am part midwife / part consultant lead I have an appointment with the consultant at around 20 weeks aswell.

applepieinthesky · 23/04/2012 15:44

stuntnun - a fat ghost Grin that sums up how I feel perfectly!
My next midwife appointment is at 15 weeks and appointment with consultant is at 16 weeks.

I also opted not to have the nuchal tests but the midwife said any obvious abnormalities would be picked up at the 20 week scan anyway.

FruitSaladIsNotPudding · 23/04/2012 15:56

God, I'm such a sheep. Have just ordered a doppler after reading you lot posting about them! I'm a bit paranoid because a friend found at scan she had lost the baby, so I want to know it's in there at least, and my scan isn't for weeks. What's the betting I just pick up my own heartbeat!

horseylady · 23/04/2012 16:00

My energy levels def improving!! I must say being sick this morning totally shocked me!!! Welcome welsh great news little!! Great to see isn't it? My next mw appointment at 16 weeks so 3 weeks wed!!!
