Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bunsouttheoven · 14/04/2012 07:38

fliss definitely sounds like it is it. I think most people have quite a few I'm not sure events but when it is the real thing deep down you know.

Get DD go her granny's & try to relax. Maybe your baby is just as eager as you not to listen to the consultant spout on about induction. Could be a chip off the old block heyGrin

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 07:43

Possibly buns Grin

In the bath now. Lovely Smile

Do we think it's time I buggered off and got my own live labour thread? Confused

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 07:44

Glad your BP is back down spannermary Grin

HollyPockett · 14/04/2012 08:41

Oh Fliss sounds exciting! Fingers crossed!

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 08:41

Bah, everything has stopped. Got out of the bath. Not sure if it's the bath or DD getting up which had halted things. Going to sit in the bedroom in the quiet and dark for a bit, if things start up DD is getting packed off to Nanny's house.

spannermary · 14/04/2012 09:02

Bah!

Cutelittlecatlover · 14/04/2012 09:25

Go Fliss! Your body has been working hard and just needs a little rest before it carries on. It's so exciting (although I'm very Envy ) !

Hayley I hope you're snuggling a squidgy newborn very soon. My first labour started with waters breaking suddenly and things happened very fast after that.

Spanner it always makes me a bit Hmm that they expect your bp to come down when you're in a strange environment listening to other women in pain! I hope you manage to escape soon.

40+10 here ffs! I had another crampy night, had to get up for a while as it was getting quite uncomfortable and as soon as I dared get my hopes up it all stopped. I was convinced I would wake up in labour but nothing, I'm really starting to think this baby is never coming out!

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 09:46

cute you'll not be far off.

Have had a lie down and listened to my margaret howells cd and have had 2 more ctx. Nothing since getting up Hmm. Really don't know what to do about DD, seems pointless to send her off if nothing's happening again, but then her presence may be what's slowing things down because I'm stuck watching Nick Jr with all the curtains wide open and DH is doing his best to keep her off me, but how do you keep a 2 year old off mummy Confused? Suppose you either remove the 2 year old or mummy!

spannermary · 14/04/2012 09:56

Thanks, cute - it's true: it's not the most reassuring place to be! The doc has been to see me and has taken yet more blood to test for pre-ec AGAIN! She is worried this will develop into that, and is really suggesting I get my head into thinking about induction. She says that it could be more complicated if I don't.

Still, I'm on meds for bp now so hopefully that'll sort my bp and the bloods will be clear.

I don't know why they can't just give me a c section: I'd more readily consent to that than inducing a back to back baby!

The 16 y-o opposite me has taken all night to go from 1cm to 2cm following her pessary. She's not happy Sad but is heading to the labour ward soon.

Fliss I'm rooting for you!!

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 10:01

Have you suggested to the doctor that you won't consent to induction with baby being back to back but would accept CS? Labour raises your BP anyway, so if they'd want you have an epidural to keep your BP down (and as induction increases your chance of EMCS anyway...) it may be worth discussing.

spannermary · 14/04/2012 10:18

Last time I mentioned CS I was dismissed with a 'oh no, we don't need to go there'.

Put me right in my place...

Bunsouttheoven · 14/04/2012 10:20

Yet spanner if a cs is what you'd prefer then insist insist insist. Get dh to aswell. Tell them you know the risks for cs but induction carries risks too. NICE guidelines state women should be given the right to maternal choice. If they are not willing to carry out cs then they are guided to find someone who will. Bearing in mind the current stage of this for you that is not practical.

If they get to the point where they think it is safest for baby to be born & a cs is what you really want then MATERNAL CHOICE is the phrase you are looking for. It is written over all my paperwork & cs consent form.

Good luck spanner I'm rooting for youSmile

spannermary · 14/04/2012 10:38

Thank you, buns - you've actually made me well up! (not that it takes much at the moment)

I think part of the issue is also that I have a history (from about 5-6 years ago) of panic attacks and anxiety and I can feel the same emotions brewing in me when I think about induction. It may be unreasonable but I really don't think it's best for me.

DH is being great - but I feel guilty for handling it so weakly. He says I'm not but that's how I feel. Sad

Bunsouttheoven · 14/04/2012 11:12

You are not handling it weakly. You are vulnerable & it is really hard to stand against what procedures hospitals etc want you to follow. Also hard to know what to do for the best & that is all we want for our babies & ourselves. They can look at statistics etc but we are people with families & lives. Some of us have had previous experience which may have been traumatic & left more than just physical scars & formed our our opinions which are valid.

Hugs hugs & more hugs (though my arms may not reach roundWink )

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 11:20

You're not weak! Far from it Smile

Jellybellyrbest · 14/04/2012 11:33

Hi, thought I'd posted this yesterday but maybe it's the sleep deprivation kicking in!! Congrats to all the new arrivals; our own arrived 04.08 Fri 13th April, Emily Grace 7lbs 15oz via a v calm waterbirth lasting 4 hours. Great taste in names Vintage!! Couldn't believe it when I read your post!!

WhenDoISleep · 14/04/2012 12:00

Congrats on all the new arrivals.

spannermary are you able to leave the ward and go for a bit of a walk round outside with DH at all? A change of scene might help a little.

Flisspaps · 14/04/2012 12:07

Congratulations Jelly

Nothing here. Ctx are few and far between - back to 45m/hourly- but they're definitely ctx - can't talk through them, can barely stand through them when they do come! Suspect baby's position may be the issue, and is causing the stop-start. Hopefully once he/she is in a better position then things will speed up!

It's going to be a long day...

notso · 14/04/2012 12:09

Congratulations vintage and Jellybellyrest what a coincidence with your lovely names!!

hayley hope all well and you are having snuggles or close to it.

Fliss DC1 was due on cup final day. DH invited loads of people round for a football/housewarming party (we'd only actually lived together for two weeks) I told him jokingly I would go into labour because I didn't want a houseful of drunken football supporters, and literally just as the first knock at the door came I had a contraction!
spanner hope bloods come back ok for you.

I am bored my back is really hurting and I feel constipated but I'm not.
DH is being fab and taking DC out for me to rest again but it's so dull at home.
I really fancy a bath but not sure about bathing alone in the house incase I can't get out of it!
Apologies for dull post but it's not very exciting back here at 38+4!

Jellybellyrbest · 14/04/2012 12:31

Good luck Spanner Fliss & Hayley (in bed having a sneaky snooze so able to read back through The other posts). Fliss would a few up & down the stairs trips/walking round the house sort the baby's head out? I had a sweep the day I went into labour 40+5), but head wasn't fully engaged. Went for a 3 mile walk that evening & ctx started 3 hrs later. Spanner fingers crossed things go your way re delivery.

Bearcrumble · 14/04/2012 12:38

Congratulations Vintagenancy and Jellybedrest - lovely name(s)!

Good luck, fliss - hope contractions start being regular soon.

Spanner All the best. A caesarian also has the benefit that the spinal will lower your BP. Just saying...

Good luck Hayley.

DD is doing well. Today is her due date according to when DH and I actually had THE SEX. She sleeps so well. Just wakes around 3am to feed and drops off again. Praying that this will continue but doubt it!

Cutelittlecatlover · 14/04/2012 12:42

Congratulations Jelly!

I just caught myself begging dh to give me a sweep Hmm . I didn't think the desperation would ever get this bad. Ffs baby get out!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 14/04/2012 12:43

Yay, hope you don't get to the induction chat then fliss!!

Mine has been rearranged for wednesday (+13) as my midwife had messed up the dates. She has made sure that they know I am not very keen on the idea though, and that they have written it on my appointment!
Just had my second sweep, still not dilated but midwife was quite rough this time (and the student had a go too, DH was over the moon at all these women putting their fingers up my fanjo Grin) so hopefully something will get going.

Mum has stolen DS again (I think he might start to forget who me and DH are!) and me and DH are watching the football

Bananna1 · 14/04/2012 13:02

Newmummyvicky, Lyra looks gorgeous and peaceful asleep in her pretty pink dress.

Congratulations Jelly - again, beautiful names. Can't believe you even chose the same middle names!

Hayley and Fliss- really hope things are truly on the way for both of you. Wouldn't it be great Fliss if baby did come on YOUR EDD, not the scans! Like you, I actually think my date is 25 April, 4 days later than the scan, so would really love it if it came on that date to prove me right!

Had a bit of a scare re. movements last night (or lack of them still) so ended up in hospital for monitoring for 2 hours in the middle of the night. All was fine, they traced the heartbeat for an hour and it was perfect. Apart from I was SOOOO tired, I kept wondering how I would have coped had it been labour. I really must make sure I sleep lots now to try and store up some energy!

Anyway, we're off to choose wallpaper and carpets for the new bedroom, which is beginning to look like it might be finished in the next week or so!!! Can't wait to log in later and catch up on any developments :)

Good luck!!!

Bearcrumble · 14/04/2012 13:07

Newmummyvicky - Lyra is really beautiful. Love the pictures, especially the one in the pink dress.
