Congratulations to Spanner and Cute.

So much to consider and remember/organise Nordic, no wonder you're emotional.

Good luck for an event tonight beyond

Any news yet notso?

MOAN ALERT
Saw midwife today at 40+2. I was a bit on the edge of tears which caught me by surprise. I know I have none of the problems/concerns that lots of you ladies have but we were told to expect DD2 early like DD1 and that she'd be a super quick delivery so not to go far. As a result DH has ensured I've been constantly in company for the last 2 weeks or so and I actually feel about 3 weeks overdue, not 2 days... not a problem except for the stress on everyone else "minding me" and impending deadlines set by the local NHS. Had "the induction talk", the thought of which makes me sad as that would be the end of my MLU and waterbirth plans which were such a lovely experience with DD... I'm probably catastrophising but I'm starting to seriously worry that this time is fated to be disastrously worse - as indicated already by going overdue, having a v fed up DH (rowed tonight as I told him I'd rather labour alone rather than keep him on pins looking miserable), having v v low BP and now sugar in my wee too :(

Also, it's DD's first bday on Thursday and I'm trying to arrange a little family do, just to cheer and clap for her with a cake as she's just at the age of being thrilled with praise :) Am fed up with everyone telling me to ignore it tho due to DD2's 'imminent' arrival - I don't want DD2 to spoil DD's special day!

WhenDoISleep · 18/04/2012 10:49

Beyond good luck for today

Tinwe moan away, that is partly what the thread is here for. Don't think I could have been in constant company for 2 weeks without shouting at someone to leave me alone tbh. Remember, you are not 'overdue' till 42 weeks, so there is still plenty of time for spontaneous labour to start. Have you been offered a sweep yet?

Ignore your family about not celebrating DD's first birthday - it is a special day for her (and for you and DH) and is something that you will remember always. We just had a little family do with cake and presents and it was lovely.

Bananna1 · 18/04/2012 11:44

Good luck today Beyond - looking forward to hearing the update!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 18/04/2012 12:23

I'm home! Midwife said he is sure my dates are right rather than the scan as baba is very happy, and I am clearly not ready yet. So attempted another sweep, cervix still soft but closed.
Have an appt to go back tomorrow at midday for pessary if nothing in the next 24hours. A good compromise, if I do say so myself

WhenDoISleep · 18/04/2012 13:07

beyond what was your original date? Glad MW was sensible today.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 18/04/2012 16:11

Original date was the 14th, so I would still be over, but 4 days now rather than 13...
Very wary of jinxing things, but just had a little bit of a show. Just been to get loads of snacks ready for hours of hanging round, be bloody typical if I don't need them now! Grin

Flisspaps · 18/04/2012 18:18

Hooray for sensible MWs Smile

Day 4 here today. ILs came visiting. Milk and tears are in, episiotomy is very sore - my tear last time was nowhere near as uncomfortable. DS has been feeding almost non-stop since Sunday, he's down to 10lb 9 (down to, how ridiculous!) but that's still less than
10% of his birthweight. DH is in work tomorrow Sad (and next Thursday) as he has a GCSE class but has negotiated the Monday and Tuesday of the week after next off in lieu. Fucking terrified - dealing with a 2yo and a 5 day old on my own Confused I only thought he was going in to do the hours lesson until MIL asked how I thought I'd manage and I realised I was mistaken.

FIL was put out that we asked him to make his own drinks if he wanted any, although he soon found his way to the kitchen when DS needed a feed and I started rearranging my clothes Grin

Bunsouttheoven · 18/04/2012 19:45

fliss can you get dh to rustle up lunch & snacks etc for tomorrow then you can just dole them out as & when?

Re the episiotomy, when I had one I used ibuprofen, salt baths (yes I know there is no evidence that it helps but it did seem to) & sitting on a bag of frozen peas. Also maternity pads sprayed with water & put in the freezer!

I skipped some of my painkillers today & am regretting it now. Wondering how long other women who have had cs have needed painkillers? Anyone?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 18/04/2012 19:57

I second the recommendation for salt, my MW thought I was nuts but I didnt have any trouble at all with my stitches either. I've stocked up ready this time Grin
Still bleedy here, and quite crampy down one side? Feels kind of like stitch...?

Having a lovely glass of red and another curry, and mum kindly gave me half of a pineapple. Then bouncing on ball for rest of football, followed by sex then bed.

If this doesnt shift him, at least I can say I tried Grin

Bearcrumble · 18/04/2012 20:15

Buns - I haven't had any today, it's been 13 days. But I went for a walk with 2-y-o DS this afternoon and now feeling a bit shaky so I might have a couple of paracetamol.

Tinwe · 18/04/2012 20:33

Thanks when for the sympathy and understanding :) - have invited everyone now so I'm banking on DD2 arriving before or after Saturday!
I've been offered a sweep on Tues, leaving it as late as possible for maximum effect we hope. Was v sore last night and felt baby was even lower than earlier when midwife had said we were 3/5 engaged so was wondering... Was still sore this morning, head between legs feeling and generally feeling off. After a whole day of feeling lousy and thinking DD2 may be DD1s bday present for tom baby has moved again, pressure has gone and I feel back to normal - frustrating!
Good luck Beyond - v Envy of you persuading DH for sex, my DH has decided it's too great a feat right now!
Fliss - After my tear and stitches I was advised to put wrapped frozen saline satches in my knicks (midwife provided them) and pour water with lavendar essential oil drops in it over the affected bits while I wee'd. Seemed to heal ok although I hate the smell of lavender even more now than I did before DD!

Flisspaps · 18/04/2012 20:50

Ooh frozen pants and lavender sounds a bit much! MW here says to put nothing on it but I have some liquid savlon left from when I had DD so may put a drop in the bath tonight. On ibuprofen and paracetamol every 4 hours and diclofenac 3x a day. It's just sore when I leave it too long between polls!

Beyond that's sounding very promising...see you on the other side! Smile

DH is making meals and snacks as suggested though Smile

Pitmountainpony · 19/04/2012 04:12

Buns....I took painkillers post c section for 2 weeks....just not worth being in pain. They only gave me 3 days worth but I asked for another 3 days worth and made them last a good week and then used paracetamol. Nearly 3 weeks on, major pain over but as I get back to housework I feel twinges, like when I pick stuff up off floor. Just get some more painkillers from the doc.

Bunsouttheoven · 19/04/2012 04:24

They didn't give me any painkillers to take home bastards, just said use ibu/para. I'll just keep on with them, just wasn't sure if I was being a wuss but suppose I'm only on day 8. Frustrating this convalescence malarky.

oltob · 19/04/2012 08:45

Congratulations spanner - great to hear a good induction outcome too.

birds I remember my stitches def got worse before getting better. Think the swelling & bruising comes out & makes the stitches feel stretched ouch. Get the midwife to look at them on your nxt visit to make sure there's no infection. Also arnica helps with bruising & can be taken whilst bfing.

Thaleia · 19/04/2012 12:15

No more news??

I'm coming to terms with having a c-section now. I think reading about absolute horrific, scary and awful birth stories "helped". Also the consultant I've seen did the right thing for me and talked all the advantages and benefits - apart from saving my babies life - up and said that natural isn't necessary best and that nothings goes over a good c-s. Please don't comment on this as this is what I'm holding on to for now and till he turns.

I'm so tired, all I could do is sleep but the downside is that at night, although I sleep, I have really vivid, strange and angst dreams. Not even about the birth but everything.

Oh well, 11 days to go. Maybe.

HollyPockett · 19/04/2012 13:32

Nothing new here Angry

I'm now 40 + 8 and getting braxton hicks but nothing else. Midwife appt tmrw so will have sweep and then find out next steps...

WhenDoISleep · 19/04/2012 14:40

Thaleia I'm glad you are comming to terms with having the c-section - do you have a date yet?

HollyPockett sympathies on the overdueness - I delivered DS1 at 40+9 after a sweep at 40+8 and found that the constant anticipation of 'will it happen today' very tiring. Am I right in thinking it is your first - if so try and enjoy (I know it is diffcult at this stage though) the last few days that you have just to be you - could you book a nice treat for yourself?

Beyond I guess you are at the hospital now - hope everything is straightforward and speedy.

Fliss hope everything is going well for you today.

Tinwe Happy first birthday to your DD! Hope you are having a lovely day with her and good for you for arranging a little party and ignoring the naysayers.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 19/04/2012 15:53

Yep, writing on my phone from my hospital bed now...
Entire plug fell out in the shower this morning (splat! Lol) but no dilation and still irregular contractions, so had pessary in at just gone 1pm. Now we wait...

Bearcrumble · 19/04/2012 16:13

Good luck Beyond!

Bananna1 · 19/04/2012 17:04

Good luck Beyond - how exciting :)

Just had my discussion with the consultant about induction due to my age. It wasn't the with my original consultant who said he'd only let me go a week over, as he was on holiday, so don't know what the outcome with him would have been.

This consultant seemed very laid back - due to having a healthy pregnancy with no high blood pressure or problems, and three previous normal deliveries, he recommended induction at 41+4 days. He even said I could refuse this and go 2 or 3 weeks over, as long as I agreed to monitoring and extra scans.
So, all seems fairly relaxed, I don't want to be induced anyway, so will just chill and see when baby wants to make an appearance. No panicking for now! (Won't be saying that when it's really overdue!!)

So come on builders, let's get that loft finished in the next week, and baby, be one week late!!

Pitmountainpony · 19/04/2012 18:46

Buns
You are not being a wuss-you have had a huge incision through your stomach.they are very conservative with doling them out as the good stuff is addictive.Call back and geta repeat prescription.
Thalia
I honestly cannot rave enough about having a planned c section- it was really relaxed and recovery has been good- if you end up with that I think you will be surprised by how straightforward it is.Just get the repeat prescription for painkillers before they discharge you.
