Hi all,
Hoping to snare a few of you who has just found out the great news like me, to share the journey and have a big moan about all the lovely effects pregnancy has on us!
It's no.2 for me!

minipie · 02/05/2012 12:20

oh yay spotty that's such good news Smile

blackcurrants Shock at the idea of suggesting unnecessary abdominal surgery just so they can bill more. From watching One Born Every Minute USA I do get the impression things are more "medicalised" there - stirrups as standard, etc.

oh no narc, poor him! hopefully he will have recovered by the time you are due... guess you won't get so much looking after at the moment though...

ivanapoo · 02/05/2012 13:38

Spotty congrats on the pole! I'm jealous, I want a scan [stamps feet]

Did talk about having an early scan but am doing my best to hold out...

Anyone else had weird stabby pains at all?

I'm finding work really difficult at the moment. I'm currently negotiating a promotion and having to fight hard for what I deserve which means at the moment working hard and trying to be switched on when I feel awful. They are going to be really pissed off when I tell them too.

Anyone told work people yet? When are you planning to tell them? I was thinking 12 week scan but with another month of how I currently am I could be in trouble!!

PS forget the Chinese, all I want to eat are chips and prawn crackers!

livismum · 02/05/2012 13:48

ivan I've had quite bad cramps and pains but they lessening every day

Booked booking in with midwife, 22nd, seems ages away but I'm a bit behind the majority and see myself here on my own news year eve while ur all enjoying ur new babies!

Haven't told work yet but as I'm only part time I can keep myself to myself quite a bit

Anyone else broached the problem of names with DP's mine is hell to get a sensible answer out of, we used up favourite girls names on our DD's he dislikes anything else and boys, he says no to my top 2, and the others that were on list when pg b4 have now been used by close friends! Made the mistake of asking the girls (generally what they would call a baby) and got told KarateMan or HappyBirthdayBaby Ummmmmmmm Grin

ivanapoo · 02/05/2012 13:51

KarateMan is pretty good, I might use that one if you don't want it!

MyDaydream · 02/05/2012 14:14

Stacey I hope your blood tests all come back okay for you.
narcolepsy good luck with your scan on Friday, how awful for you and your DH.

spotty glad you had a good scan, how exciting for you!
ivan I had cramps recently, they seem better now, but get worse if I'm stood up too long or stand up too quickly.
I'm starting a new job when I'm 11 weeks, actually conceived the day of my interview so a bit worried about telling them when the time comes. Will be putting it off as long as possible.

DP isn't being very responsive with any baby talk so not talking names yet, I'm hoping he'll come round after the scan. Last time he was much more open to talking, so think he's waiting until we're a bit safer before starting to talk about it.

PurplePidjin · 02/05/2012 14:18

I was Shock because superstitious, caution dp started the name conversation last week.

He's already vetoed Marshall, Vox and Fender Sad

livismum · 02/05/2012 14:33

Ah purple my nephew is Marshall love it! At least u have time to work on him!!

blackcurrants · 02/05/2012 15:04

I am giggling at the idea of "KarateMan" - I think if I asked DS I would be informed that the baby should be called "Elmo" or "Wiggles", so he doesn't get a vote, I'm afraid!

It'll depend on the gender, which we're going to find out this time (didn't last time). We have a few favourite girls names up our sleeve from when DS was born, as obviously we didn't need them. If it's a second son, then I think things will get more interesting. DH wants to name a boy after his grandfather (Martin) and I'd quite like a push for my own grandfather (Patrick), but at the same time I love James, which DH isn't really going for. So we're not talking about it much, until after the scan. Cos we could have a right old barney about boy's names and then realise we wasted our time, and we're having a girl! Last time around we decided on DS's name really early, and fought for aaages over possible girl's names - which we ended up not needing. Heh. It got quite fraught sometimes, though. Tricky!

PurplePidjin · 02/05/2012 15:48

I don't think Marshall is too big a deal, but a middle name of Ayceethirty was pushing it.

What do we think of Pearl and Ziljian? Wink

SpottyTeacakes · 02/05/2012 15:54

Oh my goodness, names! It was hard enough with dd I think it will be impossible this time

mwahmwah · 02/05/2012 16:10

Dh likes slash or axl for a boy and she-rah for a girl. Oh. Dear. Lord.

PurplePidjin · 02/05/2012 16:15

She-rah... Sheila... Not soooo bad?

ellliebelle · 02/05/2012 16:31

livismum my dd likes tiniferty if we have a girl, god knows where she has plucked this name from but i actually think she is going to be very dissapointed when we dont use it

MostlyHarmless84 · 02/05/2012 16:43

Hi Ladies,

I've been lurking on this thread for ages Blush. I posted once on the last thread but I stopped because I was having bad, one-sided abdominal pains and was very worried. I had a scan this week and saw my little lentil in the right place with a heartbeat! My pain is coming from a 5cm cyst in my left ovary, which is apparently quite common. I'm so relieved - EDD 20/12/2012!

I'm really struggling with food - I have only moderate nausea, and I want to eat but I'm paranoid about everything that passes my lips (this pregnancy lark is terrible for my neuroses!). It seems all my favourite foods are now off-limits. Is anyone else getting stressed about this?

Regarding names, we've had lots of arguments discussions about this and are still no closer to deciding. I think we'll draft a shortlist but won't actually decide until lentil's born. We can't find out the sex in our area anyway so won't be able to make any final decisions until later. I'm not even going to mention KarateMan to dh as I'll never hear the end of it! Purple I think the name Pearl is lovely.

SpottyTeacakes · 02/05/2012 16:48

Congrats Mostly must have been such a relief! I have the background nausea too and am struggling to think of things to eat. You are exactly one week ahead of me Smile

ellliebelle · 02/05/2012 17:16

i have just been having the exact same issue feel very nauseous this afternoon but also feel starving and cant think of anything id like to eat :( although i have to say i could probably stomach some Chinese food :) but dh isnt home till gone 8 and im not sure i can wait that long just done a chicken risotto for the dd's and it smells lovely but i cant stomach the thought of eating it :(

MostlyHarmless84 · 02/05/2012 17:22

Thanks SpottyTeacakes!

It's hard isn't it? I've not had any cravings as such, but I've got loads of aversions! I've totally gone off chocolate and coffee, and my one remaining food group (smelly cheese) is not allowed! Mmmm...Chinese sounds good though :)

PurplePidjin · 02/05/2012 18:02

DP is frying up last night's roast chicken for Chinese as I type

Pearls a great name, but would you name your child after a make of drum kits? Maybe I could tempt him with Suzuki...

brooke89 · 02/05/2012 18:03

Congrats mostly Smile

Feeling really down today and not sure why Sad Does anyone have an under active thyroid and know how it might affect me in pregnancy? Don't want to google incase it brings up scary stuff and not seeing the midwife until 17th!

SpottyTeacakes · 02/05/2012 18:13

brooke I don't have an under active thyroid but whilst I was pregnant it was borderline but went back to normal afterwards so possible pregnancy does affect it? Sorry not much help Confused

MyDaydream · 02/05/2012 18:16

purple I like Marshall and Pearl. You wouldn't have to tell people that she's named after the drum kit. I think if you like it, and it's not going to cause problems in the future it doesn't matter how you came up with the name.
mostly Congratulations on seeing the heartbeat. Must have been so great to see.
brooke could you call your midwife for some advice over the phone before your appointment if your worried? If you don't have the number your GPs surgery should be able to give it to you.

Equimum · 02/05/2012 18:25

Hi. Only just braving it to posts on this thread. Got a BPF last week and estimate being due on 30th December, sso guess I might well get an early 2013 baby instead.

MostlyHarmless84 · 02/05/2012 18:32

Thanks for the congratulations everyone!

I'm sorry you're feeling down, Brooke. If you can't get in touch with your midwife could you see your GP for advice any earlier? Waiting is horrible when you're feeling anxious.

Purple, I didn't realise that Pearl was the manufacturer of a drum kit (although I was a little confused by Ziljian)! It's still a great name though!

MostlyHarmless84 · 02/05/2012 18:36

Hi Equimum, congratulations!

NarcolepsyQueen · 02/05/2012 18:43

Brooke - I have an underactive thyroid. How many weeks are you? Have you had a blood test yet or increased your thyroxine? If you haven't - you need to get a blood test done soon. TSH needs to be in the low-normal range (0.4 to 2.0 mU/L) and a FT4 in the upper reference range
1.2. It is usual to increase your thyroxine by 25 - 50mg during pregnancy, and it usually goes back down afterwards. The increase is usually needed in the first trimester. Good luck!
