Happy chocolate scoffing weekend all! :)
All quiet here, having my 48 hourly obs done (all fine, BP reduced even further thanks to the meds, urine back to trace protein, bloods all normal and CTG on fuzzy looking fine - they all comment on what a happy wiggly baby he is!) and a sweep each time for good measure. Still only 1cm dilated with the cervix quite high (starting to wonder if I just have some kind of freakishly high uterus/cervix and it's never going to come down!!) but the sweeps are getting easier/hurting less, so there is some progress I assume!
On the advice of pretty much every medical professional we've come into contact with in the last week, we are using the only tools in our arsenal to get things moving; sex and nipple tweaking!! Amazingly sex seems to have a pretty direct and clear effect on things; I start getting cramps, an uptick in BHs and possibly even some proper contractions, plus the mucus plug is continuing to come away (just how much can there be???)
(Warning - possibly TMI) I was initially not at all keen on the idea of sex whilst the size of a whale and so uncomfortable/sore from the sweeps, but it turns out it's bloody amazing!! Admittedly positions etc are rather limited, but oh my god!! So whilst i'm very much ready for fuzzy to come out, it's certainly a lot more fun waiting now we're home!!
Regarding scans/sizing - what I was told by numerous obstetricians/sonographers was that one off scans simply are not reliable, particularly in the latter months and you need a series of regular ones to get anything like a reliable figure. With our fortnightly scanning we had one or two anomalous scans with odd sizing, but as we had so many overall we could see the trend and hopefully get a rough idea of how big fuzzy is. That being said, even with fortnightly scans I gather they can be up to a pound out! Hopefully we shall find out how accurate all our scans were soon!!
Also the NICE guidance is not to induce just because the scan/measurements suggest a big baby - there would have to be other compelling medical reasons (such as diabetes, as Ellie has) so hopefully you will still get your homebirth Kayzr :)
We bought one of these to try to get fuzzy to sleep. I had planned on just swaddling with regular blankets, but figured with my bad arthritic hands I might struggle to do them up/get them right, whereas a nice simple zip should be easy enough to manage (I hope!) :) We have only bought one to start with, in case he hates it and have a stack of blankets etc to use as well. If he likes it, we'll buy a load more (hopefully on ebay so they are cheaper!!). The plan is that once he's big enough / grown out of the startle reflex a bit, we'll move him into sleeping bags. The only thing i'm not sure about is whether it'll be warm enough on his own - I would imagine he'll need a blanket over him as well, at least until the weather warms up a bit?
fools yep Rob is DP - knew i'd slip up eventually!! All these acronyms make my head hurt!!
Bun I'm a strawberry and banana Marrocco's person myself - but they're all nice! Glad you had a nice time with your sister & co! :) Lunch at the connaught was amazing - they do the most incredible roasts (they'd have to be - they're so expensive!!) The roast beef is so good though - I could eat it every day atm!! Skipped dessert for once though - came home and had easter egg instead!!
We have an appt/check up with my regular obst's cover tomorrow (the nice one that let me go home!) so we'll find out then if all the shagging has had any effect!! I'm not sure what to expect in terms of plans for the coming week. I'm happy to keep checking/sweeping and waiting but suspect there will be pressure to have a c-section booked in. I see my regular obst next Monday (when i'll be 40+5) and I think at that point I will give up and agree to a c-section as I don't want to risk going too late given my health problems. DP and I had agreed (prior to this whole pre-eclampsia nonsense) that we'd go to 41 weeks and I still feel like that's the right choice. The only thing i'm toying with, is whether it's possible to break my waters, but have a c-section booked for later that day in case it doesn't work - so there's no danger of them trying to force me onto syntocinon if things don't happen and the theatre is busy. But I'd want my obst around - I'm not sure I trust anyone else not to try and force syntocinon / epidural etc on me - and without the c-section booked I'd be worried about them saying that the theatre was busy and I had no choice but syntocinon... will ask about that tomorrow, but suspect it'll be a discussion to have next week with my regular obst. In the meantime, I live in hope that things will get going naturally!
I'm feeling pretty nervous about going back to RSCH for the labour; last week was so horrible that it's really undermined my trust in the place. (Which is sad, as there were some really lovely people amongst the horrid ones). I want to get a birth plan / plan for the coming week summarised in really big bold type and stuck on the front of my notes - with my consultant's signature highlighted in bold at the bottom! Preferably saying that I'm allowed on the delivery ward earlier than the senior midwife said and that I'm to be given access to the birth pool for pain relief. If this isn't possible, we're toying with getting in the car and driving up to my dads (that'll be a fun hour and a half drive!) as he lives near the highest rated maternity unit in the south east and at the very least they can't be any worse than RSCH... Of course that only really works if I go into labour naturally, if I need a c-section I'd have to talk to them/contact them about transferring my care... going to wait and see what tomorrow brings anyway!
Hope you are all having a lovely bank holiday - we are doing roast lamb for dinner (slow cooked in stock in the oven for 4 hours, mmm) and going to the supermarket to pick up a few bits and pieces so I can get my hospital bag repacked/stocked! Then it's sofa, DVD, chocolate and slobbing out (and probably more sex!!
)
