With a Doppler at any rate - obv different if sonographer uses proper ultrasound thingy.

DonnaDoon · 07/04/2012 15:07

Hi all Ive just got an angel sounds heart monitor brand new off ebay 19.99. Im 10 wks maybe a bit more and Ive read on the october thread that theyve heard heartbeats from now onwards with plenty of gel so me and dh have had a go and think but not sure if it was mine we heard lol Ill keep you posted.

DonnaDoon · 07/04/2012 15:09

PS if anyone knows how to change my stats to EDD 1/11/12 Id be ever so grateful .

DonnaDoon · 07/04/2012 15:34

Update too soon for babys heartbeat me thinks...Ill keep you posted though.

superpenguin · 07/04/2012 15:58

Kiddicare is good for stair gates and on fact for all things baby, I think they do free delivery without spending too much, have a look at the website.

Agree they can see a heartbeat much earlier with a scan than they can hear it with listening devices but I'm not sure exactly when...

I'm 8+3 today I think. 12 week seems a long time away but I'll have to wait!

ValiumQueen · 07/04/2012 16:13

Heartbeat on scan from 6 weeks, with doppler from 17 usually as womb is so low in pelvis. It can sometimes be detected earlier via doppler so DO NOT PANIC! Baby heart rate will be aprox twice what yours is. From a reassurance point of view, movement is a better indicator of baby being ok. A baby will still have a heartbeat when unwell, and the mum should always seek professional opinion if movements slow down. There was a case a while back when a mum was worried about movement, listened for baby heartbeat, was reassured sufficiently, and the baby died two days later Sad

pipsicles · 07/04/2012 16:29

I have been looking at buying a Doppler if everything is okay after this. I always thought it was a ridiculous thing to spend your money on, and still thought so after my 'perfect, worry-free' first pregnancy, but now I am starting to eat my words and take back my judgements! (you realise a lot as a mother that there is no point judging anyone for anything they do because you never know when you might find yourself doing the same!) I have been to the walk-in clinic this afternoon and th dr said straight away that I need a scan and rang and booked me in for Tuesday at 1:20pm. In many ways it feels like a lifetime away at the moment, but I do feel better for knowing that I am going to know one way or the other pretty soon. I think I'll buy a dopler on tuesday if all is well - I've seen some people say on reviews that they've heard from 9wks+. DH asked the dr if they might be able to hearthe heartbeat, but dr said they never use a Doppler before 16wks, because if they can't find it, then it obviously causes even more worry.

Thanks for being there to listen ladies - it is much appreciated. I'll let you know how Tuesday goes. Might just gorge on chocolate until then! [bublush]

FoeufFighter · 07/04/2012 17:08

Just popping in to say it's all over now, our little Widget went this afternoon.
thanks to those who posted on here, private messaged me and posted on my m/c thread (please don't read it though guys it's a bit graphic at the end and i don't want you upset)
Funthatisfunny and I are supporting each other through this horrid time

Wishing you all healthy and happy pregnancies my lovely lovely duebies xxx Thanks

(shan't be back in here so no need to reply)

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/04/2012 18:39

So sorry foof I wish you all the best, please take care of yourself.

Chunkychicken · 07/04/2012 18:43

So sorry Foof x

Thechick just a quick one - mothercare do sleep bras. 2 in a pack I think for about £16 or so, which isn't cheap, BUT I word them all through pg & then through breastfeeding, when you need support/to hold a breastpad in place.

NervousAt20 · 07/04/2012 19:40

Excited to have my Easter egg tomorrow [bugrin] I no where it's hidden and I'm pleased that I haven't ate it yet :)

Evilwater · 07/04/2012 19:59

I am so sorry to hear of your loss foo.

As for the tea drinking, I used to drink around 20-30 cups a day.
The midwife said just two! I can manage around 4-6

EW

NervousAt20 · 07/04/2012 20:28

Wow 20-30? That's alot of tea [busmile]

Evilwater · 07/04/2012 20:34

I used to always have a cuppa, now just few

applepieinthesky · 07/04/2012 21:18

My maternity bra I bought off ebay arrived today and it is amazing! So so soft. Don't think I can go back to an underwired one now, will have to place an order for a few more.

Got a Thornton's easter egg from my mum - I'm 25 years old and she still buys me one every year Grin It has little fudge pieces in the middle. Yummy. Will look forward to scoffing it tomorrow in one go.

I keep thinking about foof. I was really convinced everything would be ok for her and it's upset me quite a bit. Just when I was starting to relax a bit more I feel like I can't now because it could all be over at any time.

TheDetective · 07/04/2012 21:48

I am really going to miss you Foof. Will be looking out stalking for you and wish you nothing but the best for the future.

Sorry I have been absent the last 2 days, I was feeling a bit low and didn't want to bring the thread down further! Feeling less shite tonight, so am here!

In order to cheer me up, I decided to buy some baby 'essentials' today, just things that we will definitely need. If the worst happens, they can be returned. So I didn't feel too sill buying them. I bought a steriliser that was half price, 2 pack of nappys, some bibs, cotton wool, metanium, baby thermometer, breast pads, and a few other small bits.

Amazing how quickly it all adds up Hmm.

As for the dopplers, I really would avoid getting one. The biggest reason being false reassurance. I think someone else has posted a story why they can be a dangerous thing in the hands of the untrained. I have heard too many awful stories of ladies being concerned and using them to listen in, but not seeking advice and a proper assessment.

As for when you can hear a heartbeat via sonicaid, I have managed some at 10 weeks, most can be heard around 12 weeks. For some it will not be til nearer 16 weeks. Lots of things like BMI, placenta position etc can affect when you can hear it. I admit to having a try at 8+6 when I was in hospital, was too early :) I don't usually listen in til 16 weeks unless requested as it can cause so much worry!

pinkapples · 07/04/2012 21:56

I know what you mean about foof somehow convinced myself that if it was ok for her then I'll be fine now I'm worried even more... Scant spotting for me still but barely anything really so scared but trying to be positive...

Wow you bought loads already what brand nappies did you decide?

TheDetective · 07/04/2012 22:01

I bought Pampers pink, but that is because that is what suited DS. If they don't suit this one, then will change! I never thought much of the huggies - they seemed to help the nappy rash more than anything else!

nebbo · 07/04/2012 22:52

Evening girls and welcome newbies.
I would second the thoughts of those to hold off on the dopplers. I'm a midwife and the dopplers we use cost a couple of hundred pound each. I can't imagine that the quality of the ones you get in the shops for around £50 would be able to pick up as well in these early weeks and I always warn women under 15 weeks that we may not get it just yet. As someone said, it is very dependent on position, bmi etc. You really need to ask yourself if you would be more worried if you don't hear anything before buying it.
I know that I am now regretting my early scan a bit, ive got too attached. Bleeding again :( Crying a lot :(

applepieinthesky · 07/04/2012 22:55

Wow you've bought loads already detective. The only thing I've bought so far are some unisex babygrows. If everything goes well at the 12 week scan I am going to start buying bits and pieces everytime I go shopping so we don't have loads to pay out all at once.

applepieinthesky · 07/04/2012 22:56

aww nebbo. Have you got someone with you? x

Bluetinkerbell · 07/04/2012 22:57

Hi ladies can I join in?
I've been on a MN break during Lent and catching up now. I had my BFP on 10th March and according to my calculations EDD will be 19th November.
This is my 3rd pregnancy. Last year I was due in November too, but we lost our precious DD2 at 20 weeks pregnancy in June. I'm very excited, but at the same time very anxious too...
I'm so sorry to see that some ladies had to leave this thread already due to miscarriage. Take care x

ValiumQueen · 07/04/2012 23:10

Oh nebbo ((((big hug))) Fingers and toes crossed for you x

I am gutted for foof It is amazing how you can get so fond of folk on a forum like this. Lovely lady x

I bled with both DDs and had early scans, and all was well. Had a bleed with this one, thought "I'll be fine", now bricking it thinking that I will get to 12 week scan and find baby died.

Daft thoughts I know - bloody hormones eh!

ValiumQueen · 07/04/2012 23:13

Welcome blue Sorry to hear about DD2 - hoping you have a very peaceful uneventful pregnancy this time x
