OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Wants3 · 11/04/2012 19:33

Oh btw, dampness seems to have eased off a bit today although still need to wear a liner! Bh still frequent but no regularity so inclined to wait and see. I have a midwife appointment at 9.00am on Friday so I might mention it if it is still an issue.
I am starting to count down until DH's return now, 3 more sleeps! :)
scarlet I am glad it went well today.

Munx2 · 11/04/2012 19:36

Great news scarlet fingers crossed the baby stays.

Don't worry stacks it's good they are taking good care of you already, hope that all the blood tests go well and they are quick with the results.

Sending love to dream and biscuits hope easier days were had today.

Hope jaggy and scream not too uncomfortable, and perhaps a few chocolate eggs are helping?

far and popcorn looking good ladies, blooming I'd say!

I am sure I have forgotten things, apologies to any brookers I have.

MW today, they didn't try for the heartbeat but took blood to check my thyroid. The consultant has said it must be done every four weeks which is a pain, but good that they are taking it more seriously than with DD.

On the subject of DD she bit my stomach today.......

Munx2 · 11/04/2012 19:37

wants! I knew I had forgotten people! Yes, best mention it to her hope all eases off.

And lovely too congrats on little M's amazing gain, that is fab. And your solo pram and dog walk is worthy of congrats too!

Stacks · 11/04/2012 20:33

I should know my blood test result tomorrow afternoon. The implication was that the EPS will contact me to let me know the plan after they get the result. They think given I'm only 5 weeks, that the levels will be lower than they want, and so another blood test on Friday, and another Sunday if needed. Based on the 3 results they'll then make a guess as to what day the levels will be high enough, and book me in for then. All in all I'm choosing to see this as a positive thing.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/04/2012 21:02

well done babyscarlet for moving head down, excellent news. And glad it wasn't too uncomfortable for you as well.
stacks I'm glad you are looking at things positively, do you wait for all 3 blood tests for the results or do you get them as you go along?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 11/04/2012 22:15

I can't remember who mentioned the midnight munchies previously, was it Jaggy? I get soooooooooo hungry at night now, which is totally unlike me. I had dinner at 7.30 tonight, and by 9.30 I was so hungry again I had to go and get more food! To make matters even stranger, I've barely touched my Easter eggs!?! What is wrong with me!?!

Yay for Ninja being close to mat leave! Yay!

Fingers crossed for Stacks being so positive about the blood tests, we will all be No Brooking for a good outcome so there's nothing to worry about! :)

Munx - tummy biting? Confused What happened there exactly?

Woohoo for Wants' DH being back soon. It seems like his trip has flown by!

My brain has given up, I can't remember who I wanted to respond to! I just hope everyone has a good night.

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 08:25

Thanks for explaining scarlet. It doesn't sound pleasant but I'm glad it's worked! I take it you'd prefer a vaginal birth? :).
stacks the rush about having done that day sounds to cynical old me like the gp got a bollocking from the EPU about not having done any checks which made her panic iyswim ;) it's not necessarily cause for you to panic and it's great they're monitoring it properly.

munx dd bit your bump? Shock
Glad they're testing you regularly. I'm getting increasingly furious with both myself and my gp about the way my thyroid's been managed - or not as the case may be - they tested my TSH week 6 and T4 week 9 and then refused to do either again because, and I quote, they "don't know what to do" with me. I should have phoned the consultant and got my first appointment moved up from 16 weeks but didn't and I'm kicking myself while I mental about it. Ah well appointment's next week...

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 09:58

My doppler just came! Momentary panic when I couldn't find a heartbeat, but then there is popped :)

NinjaChipmunk · 12/04/2012 10:03

aw how lovely pop I'll bet you'll be glued to that for a while!
My get up and go has gone off somewhere on its own today. I'm hoping my new book might have arrived when I get home, I could do with a new read. Tis lovely and sunny here (whilst looking at the roadworks out of my office window) hope it stays that way al weekend!
Back at lunchtime x

Wants3 · 12/04/2012 10:12

How exciting to hear heartbeat pop
news from my sister,op went well, there is a noticeable improvement in shape although DN is swollen and in a bit of discomfort. He will need another, less major op in 6 weeks and then it should be sorted! They can hopefully come home tomorrow.
I actually feel like I had a good nights sleep as I didn't wake up until about 3.30am. The past few nights it has been nearer to 1.30am so 2 extra hours! :)

farfallarocks · 12/04/2012 10:30

Stacks they are just being cautious. I had HCG levels monitored and found it very reassuring to see them doubling every 48 hours.
I believe they can't see anything on a scan until HCG reaches 2000. I had an early scan at exactly 6 weeks to check for ectopic and we saw a heartbeat, it was lovely and so its great that they are doing this for you.

Well I ended up having a lovely evening in the end, had half a glass of red wine which pepped me up no end, had to tell my friend I was preggers as there was literally not one single starter I could eat (all shell fish and lovely runny blue cheese) so it was nice not to have to lie about it.

Has everyone else been strict about the no booze thing? I am craving a little bit of red wine about once a week with dinner, no more than half a glass. My (italian) mum thinks this is to be positively encouraged as it 'helps blood production'

scream that is a lovely way to think of it :)

farfallarocks · 12/04/2012 10:31

wants great news keeping all crossed!

pop how lovely, I in 2 minds about doppler as I fear it may fuel the mentalling in me....

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 10:55

I'm really torn on the alcohol front far to the point where I bought a single-glass bottle from Tesco and then it sat in the cupboard for 3 weeks before I used it to cook with instead Confused I'm 100% sure that a glass once every few weeks once you're past the first trimester will cause no harm whatsoever, but I'm not sure I'd cope if I lost the baby and hadn't been doing everything humanly possible to ensure it would be ok iyswim Confused but I'm quite a neurotic person tbvh

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/04/2012 11:02

Yay for Wants' DN op going well, that's wonderful news!

Popcorn enjoy the doppler, it's a lovely pick-me-up at stressful times. Don't worry about the thyroid testing as well, that's entirely your GP's fault! If they didn't know what to do with the results they should have found out or referred you to someone who does know. Even if they had kept testing you they clearly weren't doing their job properly if they didn't know what to do with the results! You'll be under proper care from next week, so try not to think about it.

Farfalla I think the advice is zero alcohol until 12 weeks, and then max 1-2 units once or twice a week. I stuck to the 12 week ban, and since then I've only had about one glass of wine a month, on various special occasions (Christmas, Mum's 50th, Valentines, etc). I know other people who've drunk more regularly though, staying within the 1-2 units up to twice a week. It's all personal choice!

By the way, you can eat shellfish! I'm hooked on fish and shellfish and looked into the rules thoroughly! I'm not sure why shellfish has this rep as being a harmful food in pregnancy - it's not true. The main restriction in pregnancy is ANY food that isn't fully cooked. So meat which is still pink, for example, is a no go along with sushi. Fully cooked shellfish, and even cooked blue/soft cheeses, are absolutely fine.

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 11:09

Oh yes - I eat shellfish and cooked (but not just "melted") unpasteurised cheese - the cooking will kill and nasties. Bloody miss my rare steaks though, sob

Thanks scream - I think I need to just not think about it and concentrate on next week's appointment. All's ok with the baby afaik so I need to stop mentalling but I'm neurotic, told you so! :o

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/04/2012 11:10

I'm missing the second meet up of my NCT group right now. I'm really gutted. They sent round emails to everyone including me, and I AGAIN raised the point that I could only join them if we were going to someone's house so I could sit on a sofa. Despite this for the second time they arranged to meet in one of the cafes just up the road from me, with evil wooden chairs and zero back support.

One of the ladies had her baby by elcs last week, and I emailed her this week to see how she's getting on, her response was that she'll tell us all about it at the brunch!! I feel so cut off :(

Sorry to whinge. I know it's not their problem and I shouldn't expect special treatment, it just feels like would it REALLY be that hard to have coffee at someone's house?! At this rate by the time I'm mobile again in mid-May no one will know who I am!

Munx2 · 12/04/2012 11:11

Morning all

Well the biting thing, I think it was an accident..... DD currently buries her head right into people saying 'ahhhhhhhh' and snuggling right in. I am thinking she just got a bit carried away, and as she had an open mouth anyway I think the front two teeth went in. It looks that way from the puncture mark!!!!!

We will see, obviously if she does it again will need to think of strategies, but just saying No to her reduces her to tears bless her.

She also lifted my top for a good look at my tummy yesterday.

Another knackered zombie here, but totally agree with Far I am just so grateful to be pg that I don't mind!

Hope you got a good nights sleep Ninja and that is good news Wants.

That is all good advice Scream , thank you.

I have decided not to get a Doppler, but still would like one iykwim...... Am very glad you heard the heartbeat pop how exciting!

It is my last day of holiday today as I have Fridays off anyway. Hope dd will be ok at nursery on Monday after two weeks off.

My friend has just had a baby so hoping for newborn cuddles soon, will be interesting to see how DD copes with that!

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 11:14

Oh scream :( Could you send a round robin suggesting another meetup either at yours (if it's in a suitable state again yet?) or at a pub that has sofas (our local weatherspoons does nice coffee and has sofas?)

Munx2 · 12/04/2012 11:15

Oh scream I am so sorry that has happened, people just don't thnk do they?

pop forgot to say, my MW said yesterday that standard practice is to test the thyroid function once per trimester so I am to entirely sure why the hospital are insisting on every four weeks? Did they put up your thyroxine immediately you found out you were pregnant? My MW put mine up by 25mcg at my booking in appointment. Brooking for your appointment, as you say little pop is doing well so that is all great!

On another note my arm is a right mess after yesterday's blood test and very sore. Grr.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/04/2012 11:20

Thanks for the advice Pop, my DH has offered to go on a scouting mission around the village to spy out any places with good sofa options! The only place I know nearby with sofas is Costa, and I suspect these ladies would be unimpressed with Costa as a suggestion... Confused To be fair to them there are FAR nicer places nearby, I'm just not sure any of them have sofas!

My house is still a bit of a nightmare, and it'll stay that way until the SPD goes and I can do stairs again. Until then, with my bed downstairs, all other furniture is piled into random corners and I couldn't fit 6 people into my living room!

McPopcornMouseNFries · 12/04/2012 11:27

munx I'd hazard a guess it's standard to test every trimester if you're not diagnosed as a hypo already iyswim - so along with your standard bloods? - but monthly or 6-weekly if you're a known risk. My GPs were utterly clueless, so no, they didn't put my thyroxine up automatically but I did it myself when I started getting symptomatic about a month ago - naughty!

Oh scream you're really going through the mill, aren't you? We're far more fun than a bunch of thoughtless NCT ladies, however Wink :)

Munx2 · 12/04/2012 11:33

The advice is very confusing isn't it Pops the MW seems to think that once per trimester is current practice for under active thyriods, I did ask her about it as I read up about it online. And to be honest with my DD that is all the testing they did...I was a bit clueless as to the risks involved with a poorly managed thyroid.

I think you have to be proactive about it, and putting up yor dose is sensible!

Apparently, although. I may be wrong, thyroid testing isn't standard during pg if you have no known problems. I think it's very common for your thyroid to flip from under to over active though but again Bartlet would know better!

I think the care depends on where you live as well, as does the notice for scan dates. I got three days notice, and the MW phoned my appointment through as the letter wasn't going to arrive in time which was damn incomvicenent as my DH had to juggle clients.

scream I agree with pop we can have our own online coffee group, we just need to work on teleporting cakes.......

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/04/2012 11:34

You ladies are INFINITELY more fun than any NCT group Grin Pop it sounds like you're taking good care of yourself and miniPop, well done! It's frustrating when you know more about your condition than your doc (such as my consultant and the SPD!!) but you're handling it all so well.

Munx fingers crossed your DD was just being playful! I have no experience with cute little kiddies, but I have a DH and that's pretty similar in a lot of ways, right?! Wink I've had to get my DH to stop his usual tricks (such as tickling me when I say something he thinks is silly!) because he doesn't really understand that all unnecessary movement is painful for me right now. They get there in the end though! Grin
