scream i think the official advice is meant to be that anything is possible and take precautions unless you don't mind having 2 close in age! Someone i know via mumsnet had DC1 when i had DS1 16 months ago, and in Feb this year she had DC2...so there are some out there who def need contraception! Worst constructed sentence ever but here goes...When i went to the doctor to say i wanted a wart frozen off, but only if it was ok for him to do so, as i mentioned that the stuff i'd bought over the counter said not to use if pregnant or breastfeeding, he asked which one am i and i said both and he said i couldn't be!! Admittedly i'd had to drop down to one feed per day from the 3 that DS was having in order for my periods to return! But i wouldn't take any chances unless you actually wanted another one immediately, but we very much wanted a second now.

hope dream is still doing ok, hope babies are all behaving, and hope screams baby stays put and the fibroids move, and that weird wiffs disappear Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 23/03/2012 19:54

Scream I was categorically told the opposite - after both DSs!

The mw specifically said that even if I was bf that doesn't stop your periods returning so isn't reliable as a method of contraception. And indeed my periods only stayed away for a maximum of 6 mths last time even though I bf for longer.

scarletfingernail · 23/03/2012 19:57

jen could it be just an excess of discharge? I was told today that it is normal to expect more as the pregnancy progresses towards the end. My guess that would be just a hormonal thing? I don't think waters are supposed to smell unpleasant.

scream, me and looopy and jaggy were all over on the 'TTC while bf' thread. I think statisically there are only about about 6% of women who can get pg within the first 6 months if EBF. There are stats on the KellyMom website. I used no contraception oh, wait, no, a very effective contraception, called the Third Degree Tear, worked for a looong time I didn't get my periods back until I dropped a feed suddenly. I was then incredibly lucky and managed to concieve after one full cycle (so only took 4 or 5 months in total to get pg again), and was incredibly lucky in that suddenly dropping day feeding at 8 months, which coincided with DD mucking about at the boob, and I'd had mastitis twice due to tolerating a crap latch as if I took her off then that was it, she wouldn't go back on, I managed to get my periods back ready to TTC in earnest!! I have two friends who've had periods after 2-3 months despite EBF, so if I dodn't want another I'd use contraception. Will be Brooking for your fibroids to be suitably positioned Grin

I am a seriously grumpy cow bit past it now. So tired. Finally managed to fall asleep 10 minutes before DD woke up fro her nap- great- and she messed me around for an hour going down...

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 23/03/2012 20:11

Seems like pretty dangerous "advice" for a HV to be giving out! I'm glad to have confirmation that she was definitely giving out bogus advice. I accept that it's relatively rare, but it is still possible and she should be warning women of this!

Loopy it's entertaining to hear your GP thought it was impossible for you to be pregnant and bfing simultaneously. My GP has said some interesting things during this pg as well, for example recommending I eat lots of liver when there was a concern that I might be anemic Hmm

Dream sorry to hear you're having a tough/tiring day. My new mantra for you is Not-Long-Now! That's not ideal of course (I'm trying to apply the same mantra to myself and it hasn't worked yet!) but it's still soooooooo true. You've done AMAZINGLY well. Less than two weeks to go to meet your gorgeous and perfectly cooked little men. You've survived 36 weeks so far, this last leg will be a doddle!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/03/2012 20:28

The leaflet the HV gave me on Wed said that EBF was an effective contraception until 6 months IF your period hasn't returned, but that you ovulate 2 weeks before your period returns so you might not know you were fertile until it happened. I am probably going to ask for the mini pill at my 6 week appt (which I must remember to make soon!), or maybe the implant. My sister had the implant and she started off with no periods for 2 months, and then bled for about 4 weeks solid, so she got it taken out. I don't want that, but then with the mini pill you must take it within about an hour of the same time every day, which is not my strong point. Confused Rhythm method, maybe? You can't take the combined pill and breastfeed. It's a moot point right now because I'm still bleeding, anyway. But I don't want another so soon - I'm giving myself until my 30th birthday off pregnancy, so 18 months from now. Mmm, the joy of not being pregnant for 18 whole months! and then I can drink properly on my birthday

Scream, your description of Dream's twins as 'perfectly cooked little men' made me Grin. It sounds like the Gingerbread Man!

fishcakefoxtrot · 23/03/2012 20:28

Hooray for a good scan cakes and welcome to shinyblackgrape! how are you feeling?

I like the new thread. However I am think I am officially the next one in line, which I find a little bit terrifying. I think dream might sneak in before me, though. I am not ready mentally or in terms of work but that is at least nearly done and mil is visiting next week so it's not like i could have enjoyed 2 days of biscuit eating in the sofa while dd is at the childminder anyway

Sorry to hear the baby is still transverse scarlet. I reckon you should try biscuits' fanjo-music suggestion. If nothing else the laughter that would ensue might jiggle the baby round Grin

scream what happens if your fibroids don't move? Do they have to do the incision at a different spot?

NinjaChipmunk · 23/03/2012 20:32

back from the pub, dp is cooking a chinese selection of ping meals for us and me and ds are chilling on the sofa.
scream ebf is NOT an effective method of contraception, and I am a little Shock at the hv telling her it is. The mw's at the hospital we are both using were really hot on telling me last time to use contraception the second we felt like resuming a sex life. Hopefully your friend is sensible enough to sort herself out?
cakes well done on the scan, have you told anyone in rl yet?
dream you can do it, you are nearly there.
right, grubs up so back laters preggos x

fishcakefoxtrot · 23/03/2012 20:33

I got pregnant while still breastfeeding, too. Was only doing one feed a day at that point though.

Out of interest, have people had much info about breast-feeding? I'm sure the midwife asked me a couple of times when I was pregnant with dd but this time no one has asked, and they've not asked how i fed dd either, so it's not like any conclusions have been drawn from that. Seems strange given all the posters etc Confused

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 23/03/2012 21:02

Scarlet I think in the mass of posts today I might not have mentioned your appt yet? Very sorry to hear your LO hasn't changed position yet. I'll be No Brooking extra hard over the next two weeks that the ECV becomes completely unnecessary! I'm sure this LO will move in time, just like your DS1!

Fishcake we haven't actually been told what will happen if the fibroids don't move, I was too scared to ask! I imagine it depends on where they are, they could be potentially blocking both a bikini line incision AND a vertical incision. Even if the vertical line isn't blocked they might be unwilling to try that method on an elective basis because I think it's much riskier with poorer outcomes. Worst case scenario I guess they might refuse the elective altogether! I don't want to even think about it

DreamingOfPeace · 23/03/2012 21:07

me neither- no-one has asked how I'm planning on feeding twins fischcake! And you are next in line, oh yes!!! 11 days for you. 10 tomorrow Smile I am waiting my turn. My body doesn't do labour anyway, paternity leave fits in well with my 4th April date, and I just read an article synopsis of a BMJ (british medical journal) article about how health outcomes up to age 5 are far better if born after 38 weeks. 37+6 satisifies me just fine though! Absolutely no sneaking in before you for me. Fact. You are in pole position Grin

ninja sounds lovely! Exciting about the house too btw. Have you viewed the one near-ish you which you thought might be suitable if a little over budget?! I do love a bit of house porn... "My name is Dream and I am a reformed RightMove Addict" because I don't have time anymore

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 23/03/2012 21:16

"My name is Scream and yesterday I relapsed - several hours wasted on Rightmove until I finally drove myself crazy by finding my dream house two streets away and only a couple of million Hmm out of my price range!"

TheLittleFriend · 23/03/2012 21:18

Thanks so much for the CB digi's, it's very kind of you. If secret & I both get bfp's with them, then I think you need to start selling them, you'd make a fortune!

DreamingOfPeace · 23/03/2012 21:23

Hi little, lovely to see you- so we're awaiting more exciting news from the TTC thread?!

cakes82 · 23/03/2012 21:26

Too I like your idea about your 30th birthday, my 30th is 3wks approx before LO arrives (unless it is early!)
We had a scan at 7wks and saw heartbeat, so told pretty much everyone in RL then. Plus my work can have its moments so I needed to tell them early.

I was asked at my booking in appt with mw if I planned to bf.

I've put my scan pic into my MN profile, if anyone fancies looking,,,

TheLittleFriend · 23/03/2012 21:28

Hi dream. Well I'm not getting my hopes up about having any exciting news any time soon, but biscuits kindly passed on some CB digi tests that I'm hoping will be the ones to give me a bfp when the time comes. I'm pretty sure another ttc'er will be over here very soon though Wink x

GreenOlives · 23/03/2012 21:40

Just marking my place so I can stalk keep up to date with the PSEPP! Grin

Scream I just wanted to echo what the other ladies have said about the crap HV advice. I EBF DS and my first period arrived exactly 6 weeks after his birth Shock and I continued to have regular periods throughout the whole BF experience (and DS was a big 98th centile milk monster!) So quite frankly that HV is talking a load of b***ks! Grin If only I had known then what I know now I may have taken advantage of those cycles and started TTC#2 a bit earlier! Instead I moaned alot about how unfair it was to have periods whilst BF Wink I too indulged in Rightmove property porn today so you are not alone! Smile

DreamingOfPeace · 23/03/2012 21:41

ahhhh, cakes, gorgeous pic, little poser already!

NinjaChipmunk · 23/03/2012 22:04

I knew I'd forgotten stuff!
Hello and welcome, pull up a comfy chair shinyblackgrape
And scarlet I hope your baby moves soon.
Lovely to see olives imps and little over here, looking forward to it being a permanent move for lots of you soon. I wish i had time to keep up with both threads, but I feel I barely manage to keep up with this one recently!

DreamingOfPeace · 23/03/2012 22:09

I'm driving myself mad- where and when did purple post a link to a nursing vest that she said was the daddy-oh of nursing vests? Was it a bravado one?! I remember clicking the link and thinking oh yes... Now I'm trawling an I can't find it and I want one, just like that, not any other one . Can anyone help me?!

Biscuitsandtea · 23/03/2012 23:23

You're most welcome little, and lovely to see you (and Imps and olives here - nor long till you'll all be here permanently hopefully Smile

Dream there were indeed some bravado ones.... Let me see if I can find the links that I kept? She may have suggested others though that I disregarded for not being built to an industrial size.

Was it this one, or maybe this one or perhaps this one?

As I say I kept the links for these as they were good for bigger boobs so I don't know if it's the one you were after?

Biscuitsandtea · 23/03/2012 23:25

Welcome also Shiny and congrats! I'm losing track of all the new people coming across now!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 23/03/2012 23:29

Dream Bravado vest google for uk stockists :)

Any bf questions I know I have missed can you fire them at me again? :)
We are good here, enjoying last of DH paternity leave and have had visitors hence AWOL :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/03/2012 23:31

Cakes, that is such a sweet scan pic!

Bean, go to sleep! You have just fed for an hour and 15 minutes and can't possibly be hungry. I want to go in the bath and bathe my sore nipples.

Good luck to all the TTCers!

My name is Too and I spend far too much time on the ESPC website looking at property porn. DH spends his on the Strutt and Parker website looking at millionaire property porn.

Dream, you will develop into an expert tandem breastfeeder in no time at all! Particularly with your experience with DD under your belt already. Fishcake, nobody really asked how I was planning to feed either. The community MW answered some of my questions, and then in the hospital various MWs showed me bits and pieces (see earlier rant about consistency). If I'd gone to the antenatal classes this time I'd have had the feeding advice class - 3 hours discussing feeding, breast and bottle. I can't remember now what was covered, though.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 23/03/2012 23:34

Can anyone recommend cheap nursing tops? I have a very small selection of old vests that I'm using at the moment, but that's not going to do me for the next 6 months or more. Should I just go to Primark and stock up on cheapo tops that I don't mind stretching at the neck? Budget is very much a consideration.
