babybrain3 · 27/04/2012 17:16

Sad it has been a 9 year gap though so it probably doesn't count Grin

cakes82 · 27/04/2012 17:33

I'm 17w today i'm getting odd pains too only left side though, had them before guess its stretching. I'm not sure I could describe pain as intense. Also no obvious movement, did wonder if I felt something earlier but it could have been wind Confused

babybrain3 · 27/04/2012 18:53

Anyone know what sort of paint you can use to paint a cot?

MissPenteuth · 27/04/2012 21:25

newton I hope everything turns out ok with your DP's sister.

cakes I've had a few sharp pains on either side (seems to be one side at a time for a day or so, then on a different occasion it will be the other side) as well as dull cramps. I think it's just everything growing and stretching.

I've been feeling slight squirming and poking, it's so gentle that I'm questioning whether it really is the baby though. It's mostly when I'm sitting up (at the computer for example). I'm 17w tomorrow, and with DD I first felt movement at about 19w.

babybrain I'm not sure about the paint, but re: the doppler, I have an AngelSounds one that I bought from amazon and it's been fine. Not as good as the ones the midwives use obviously but I've been able to find the heartbeat since about 15w.

On the subject of maternity clothes, Gap have 30% of everything instore until this Sunday, and they have some quite nice maternity stuff. I got a denim skirt (knee-length) for £24 instead of £36.

Not that I post much anyway Blush but there might be a bit of radio silence from me in May, as we're off to NYC for a few days next week and then travelling to see the in-laws (in Montenegro, and stopping off in Croatia afterwards) a few days after that. My 20w scan is on the day after we get back though, so I'll definitely drop in to update after that, as we're hoping to find out the gender.

pinpan · 27/04/2012 21:54

Lots of stretching and twinge-ing going on here - I swear the baby just lies around for a week or two and then goes through a growth spurt and saps all my energy for a few days. 19 weeks today, and I've only just started to feel 'proper' movements (DH can even feel a little bit from the outside), though I've been aware of faint movement for a couple of weeks now. I poked the bump during my scan to try and get her (Grin) to move for the sonographer to be able to measure something, and it was hilarious watching her bounce away from my finger. (Am I a bad mother already?) I recorded the midwife listening to the heartbeat yesterday so now I can listen to it on my phone whenever I like. Smile

babybrain, something nontoxic and edible? I'm so useful...

Have a great trip, MissP!

pinpan · 28/04/2012 04:45

Ho ho - we bought a cot! GrinShockGrin It was in the sale, and it's rather lovely; drop side with a sweet mechanism with no visible rails, and rimu wood finish. Made by a company called Grotime, which DH keeps reading wrong and says he is going to refer to our baby as the Grotmite. Grin Now I am looking at photos of nurseries on google and understanding how easy it would be to go completely overboard...

Heartbeep · 28/04/2012 06:55

Hello. I was on the old thread briefly haven't checked into this one yet.

17 + 3 today DD 3rd Oct, I was just going to lurk but had to post after reading the comments about movement. I'm so relieved!

I have felt some movement but it is so very different from my last pregnancy which was textbook movement and very early that I've been worried. With DD I felt flutterings then little (frequent) popping bubble like feelings (kicks) which all started at 13 weeks. This time it's big swirly movements, no flutterings, which was akin to later stages of last pregnancy, and nowhere near as often. Also not many kicks yet, a few which have been singular and strong, but fleeting to the point where I question if they actually happened. movement feels like every other day.

I have to admit, I caved and bought a Doppler as MW refused to listen for hb at 16 week check said they won't look til after 20 week scan now. It has been good but there is massive breath hold for a good 5 mins until we locate the hb, so it can be scary. I'm actually terrified until after 20wk scan as we had a horrible experience at DDs 20 week scan although she's a perfectly fit & healthy almost 3yo.

That's all, no question or point to my post just relieved I'm not alone with concerns over movement.

Heartbeep · 28/04/2012 06:59

babybrain you could try Ecos organic paint we used this to paint new house as DD was newborn. It's bloody expensive but there's no odour, give them a call as they do wood products too & deliver, they were quite helpful on the phone.

Emmiedarling · 28/04/2012 19:08

hello guys! I havent been around lately - I think the last you all heard was that I was going into hospital for my cervical stitch.

Well, phew! Ive just come out of hospital - over two weeks after I went in!

Still bed bound and in agony as things all got a bit complicated. Had the stitch and woke up in soo much pain. Was put on a morphine drip (major guilts that this would affect the baba) and then was found to have a kidney infection.

Unfortunately that wasnt all...I just wasnt improving...i couldnt sit, stand, eat...

I had to have an MRI to find out the problem (cue more guilt and worry) and it turns out I have a big tumour in my uterus. THANK GOD its benign.

I was told that in normal circumstances ie. not pregnant, they would operate but now, that just isnt an option.

They gave me many scans - the ONLY good thing to come out of this ordeal - so i got to see my bean lots! All is well there, apparently he's pushing on the tumour making it even more painful. Hmm a little terror already.

And...I was right...it's a BOY! :)

Anyway, not going to rant on anymore, hope youre all well xxx

Bubblebell1 · 28/04/2012 19:32

Guccigirl79 · 29/04/2012 09:17

Wow!! lots of genders coming thriugh thick & fast now ladies :) so lovely to hear!!

Emmie,so pleased you're finally home that must've been mind bogglingly boring to be in that amount of time even with all that going on!! Have some Thanks & Brew & a Biscuit (or several) on me :) Dont want to put a downer on anything but have your family come round yet hun? I really hope so given what you've had to deal with xx

16wks today have MW app Wed morning so hoping she will comply & check heartbeat so we can finally hear it :)

We have a weather warning here today as the river severn is about to burst its banks across town so think I will nip to tesco for supplies so we can batten down the hatches!! Hope the shitty rain eases for the rest of you today & you all have a lovely restful sunday :)

MsInterpret · 29/04/2012 10:14

emmie, what a lot you've gone through in the past few weeks. Glad to hear you're out of hospital and hope you're feeling a lot better soon with few further complications!

We need to update our list with 'boys', 'girls' and 'surprises' Grin.

My scan is a week on Friday, really hoping we can find out.

Awful rain and wind here too. Just hoping I can get a bit more prep for net week's teaching done before we're off for a roast lunch at a friend's house. Yum!

Better get back to it then...

babybrain3 · 29/04/2012 19:06

Really glad you're doing well emmie you seem to be coping really well with it too-do you wear a superwoman outfit under you're normal clothes????? Grin

DP just asked me if I need to get ny hospital bag packed yet-bless him! I know I'm eager to get things organised-but didn't think I was that bad!!! Wink

Emmiedarling · 29/04/2012 20:05

Thanks so much for all the lovely messages. I'm up in Lincolnshire now - staying with my Mum until I can get myself to & from bathroom!!! ;)

Still struggling with pain but trying to keep myself busy by looking at various baby boy things online. Oh my goodness it's all so overwhelming! There seems to be so many things to get/look in to.

When ar people going to start making the nursery or buying some clothes?
Also, another thought - are any of you going to have a baby shower? If so, when?

Xxx

MakeTeaNotWar · 29/04/2012 20:35

Emmie you poor sausage, what a lot to go through. Glad you're ok and that your little boy is too, wow and ouch sounds so painful.

I don't intend having a baby shower unless someone takes it upon themselves to throw me one but I doubt that they will as this is my second and nobody did it first time round! As for clothes, I'm not going to buy anything as people are amazingly generous with gifts and passing me on hand-me-downs. DD got so much stuff that she didn't even get to wear it all! But I have now got a double buggy (a Phil and Ted's E3 passed on from a friend) and have bought a birthing pool from Ebay. I'll think about sorting through DD's old clothes later on, maybe when mat leave starts at the end of August. However I am stocking up on nappies and wipes whenever I see a great offer.

Guccigirl79 · 29/04/2012 21:42

Oooo baby shower like that idea!!!!!!

KPT083 · 30/04/2012 14:55

Helloo Ladies,

It's been such a long time since I logged in that i've dropped off the list, so i'm going to re add myself and stop being silly that it's all still a dream. Baby is well and truly in there Smile we've seen and heard it twice (very wriggly it is too). Still haven't managed to meet our actual midwife tho.....

HELLLLOOOOOOO?????? Is there anybody there?! Grin

Sorry I haven't been around this wekend, DS has got ANOTHER cold. (I'm even boring myself with this now...that's 3 in about 4 weeks!) Had a pretty boring weekend myself, spent most of it bickering with DP over who to invite to the wedding, battling to keep it small and failing miserably!

Emmie Good to see you back, what a time you have had! It's nice that your Mum can look after you...I think I'd just want my Mum if I'd been through what you have been through! How are you feeling today? Did the doctors say when they are going to operate on you? Will they do it soon after you've had your DS or are they going to let you recover for a bit first?

I doubt I'll be having a baby shower. I didn't have one for DS and was glad... it makes me slightly uncomforatble when people buy gifts before baby is born. I try not to buy to much although I'm usually not superstitious (sp?) in any way, it just doesn't lie right with me. But each to their own!! My friends have been planning a baby-friendly Hen do, probably afternoon tea somewhere, which will be similar enough (as in a gaggle of woman talking about babies and weddings!)

Update on DS's sister... she's not out of the woods yet as she has to go for another scan in a couple of weeks to check all is well but no more bleeding and hormone levels doubling so we're hopeful all will be OK. That was a huge relief to hear!

We have decided to move DS into the bigger room when we come back from our holiday in preparation for him and baby sharing. I know it'll be around another year until they are actually sharing but we have put off doing lots of things in the house and really need DS to be where he is going to be for the next few years before we can move on. DS's nursery will become the spare room, and then if we have a girl, eventually she will move out of DS's room and back into the spare room. That's the grand plan anyway! Now I can start planning the bookshelves I want for DS and stop tripping over the pile of books on his bedroom floor every time I go in! I like the idea of DS and baby sharing even if baby is a girl as I never shard a room and neither did DP (both had siblings of the opposite sex so kept in seperate rooms) but I think to a certain age it doesn't matter and will be beneficial to night time routine, playing together and general bonding. Not sure what the consensus is on this one but there's my two peneth Grin

So, in additional to the Isabella Oliver stuff I got outbid on I have now missed out on a crib (started at 99p but sold for £35!) and a birthing pool (seller took it off sale just after I bid the minimum of £25 which would have been an absolute bargain!!) I know ebay isn't a competition but I'm thinking I could do with winning anything right now as this isn't even funny any more!!!

(Man, that is a looooong post! Well, that'll teach you to go all quiet on me!)

newtonupontheheath · 30/04/2012 15:04

Sorry KPT took me so long to type my epic post, I cross posted with you!

Hi again Smile welcome back!

KPT083 · 30/04/2012 15:32

Thanks Newton Smile.

I've had a shufty through all the other posts trying to catch up.

I'm 17 weeks today and really not sure if i've 'felt' anything yet, sometimes I think I have then it turns out to be wind Blush.

It may be a bit early yet, but I wondered what peoples views are on NCT classes?? Apologies if this' already been discussed Thanks

Bubblebell1 · 30/04/2012 16:08

Hi girls.

Newton I've never been to any classes antenatal or nct so can't help. But I am a firm believer in doing what makes you feel at ease.
I've heard nct classes are expensive tho.

My advice for first timers is to get advice re breast feeding. My first time I didn't get a proper latch and ended up with blood blisters on my nipples. Then when baby has growth spurts and feeds more I panicked and thought I wasn't giving enough so quit.

This time I intend to stick at it.

Finally some sunshine. My mood has picked up and I'm keeping everything crossed that it stays for a couple of days.

I'm feeling occasional movements now. Wasn't expecting to as my placenta is anteria.

Only 18 sleeps til my next scan. Can't wait. May actually believe that there is a baby girl in there.

MakeTeaNotWar · 30/04/2012 21:51

KPT083 I did NCT first time round and really enjoyed it. We had a lovely teacher and it was really important for me that DH came along and got to ask questions and hear the kind of issues that people worried about. Best of all was the wonderful friends that I made, a fabulous bunch of women that I still see regularly. Also NCT sales are wonderful although you don't need to be a member to go to those. Round here NCT antenatal classes fill up very quickly so if you're thinking of doing them, I'd look into it now.

This time round I plan to do Daisy Birthing. Totally agree with bubble to get advice re breastfeeding. I felt really hard done by that no one told me how painful and time consuming with me and I struggled for the first 6 weeks, crying through feeds and feeling like a failure but wonderful breast feeding counsellors helped me crack it. This time I am mentally prepared for it to have a rocky start again but with the confidence to get through it.

Winnie81 · 30/04/2012 22:23

Evening everyone!

I'm glad to read everyone's updates everyday I just don't have a great deal to put on here as we are still WAITING for results!! They said to ring tmrw if we heard nothing and they will see if they can find out when they will be back! It's all about growing the cells and getting the genetic info from them so I'm not sure how they will hurry them up!!

I'm 19 weeks Thursday and have felt movements for the last 2-3 weeks on occasion! My boobs are growing and very sensitive too however dh was like 'wow' when I got into pjs earlier!
My 20 week scan is booked for 21st may so I'll be 21.5 weeks by then!

Anyway off to sleep now xx
