Kveta - so sorry to hear about your aunt.

AmethystMoon - re the calf cramp. God, I had that the other night and it was awful. Occasionally get cramp at night but this one seemed ridiculously bad. Sometimes, pinching the earlobe on the affected side can help. But sometimes it doesn't!

Warlin - re the heavy bump thing. Yeah, I stand up from my desk at the end of the day and just sort of go 'wow' at the weight in my pelvis / abdomen. Very weird.

bemybebe - sorry to hear about your husband having that bleed; must have been awful. Hope you're starting to feel a bit better too.

Re hypnosis stories - I remember when I was training and we were doing a day on anaesthesia. When we were practicing I forgot to tell the guy I was practicing with that I'm right handed so we should practice on my left - by the time we'd finished my right hand was so numb I couldn't take notes for the rest of the afternoon! It's childish, but one of my favourite passtimes in an idle moment is still using self-hypnosis to make one of my hands numb Grin. It's just so weird!

Well, after feeling so lousy on Tuesday due to exhaustion, I cheered up when I found a really good deal on a second hand pram (the Mima Kobi I was after) and felt much chirpier yesterday morning as a result, despite another really terrible night's sleep. Unfortunately, when we headed out to work we measured the car boot before I bought the pram and realised it was a couple of centimeters too short for it Sad. I was gutted. I cried all the way to work and felt totally miserable again. So I went on ebay to make myself feel better. And bought another bass guitar Hmm. It's on it's way from Germany and I'm ridiculously excited. Don't know why as I don't have time to play the one I've got (and I'm terrible when I do!) - I blame DH as we went to a guitar shop on Tuesday night and he bought a new acoustic to add to his guitar collection. I saw a bass in there I liked and had a play with it and it got me thinking I could get another. Clearly, my priorites are severely out of whack, given we have a baby on the way. But I don't care. I'm going back to the 'I'll use slings, you buy a pram if you want' line with DH and awaiting my new bass with great anticipation Grin. DH has also promised we can move our pool table from the dining room to one of the outbuildings so we can turn the dining room into a joing music room (for us) / play room (for baby). Yay! Ironic really, given my mum and dad took all the violins / viola back to their house last time they visited 'cause we don't really have space.

Was my last volunteering shift last night - I'll miss it but will go back when the time is right. Actually slept better last night (always sleep well after a shift there for some reason) so feel slightly more human today - good job as work is still manic!

Anyway, I've waffled enough now. Hope everyone's doing okay and having a good evening.

SpecialJK · 08/03/2012 19:41

ladies. got home tonight to find a rather upsetting letter from my consultant to my GP (a copy was sent to me). After the whole appointment last week where she told me that 'my uterus may split open during labour' (without any evidence to backup that statement) she's now sent what I consider quite a patronising letter to my GP stating "she is convinced she has had a fibroid removed".....

Yes, I did have one removed, I'm not imagining it. I remember it vividly as I had an overnight stay in hospital and 3 weeks off work! Angry

Can I ask to change consultant? I had asked to be put with the consultant who did the fibroid removal originally as he has my case history, but I wasn't. I feel like I really want to change, as I'm really uncomfortable with her manner.

Is that possible to change? I'm even at the point I would ask to change hospital just so I don't have her treating me

SeriouslyStrongCheddar · 08/03/2012 19:50

Special - that's awful. I'd not only ask to change hospital, I'd put in a complaint about that consultant. Actually, knowing me, I'd probably make another appointment with her and tell her what I thought of her letter. Diplomacy is not my strong point. Hope you manage to find a way forward that makes you feel comfortable.

Kayzr · 08/03/2012 19:53

Special yes you can ask to change consultant and refuse to see her. I have on my maternity notes in big letters that I am not to have a certain midwife unless in a dire emergency.

I'd also complain about her too.

rrrayray · 08/03/2012 20:33

Special - was midwife led with DD so have no idea about consultant and choices, but yes I'd imagine if she made you feel uncomfortable (patronising cow) then you'd be well within your right to request a change. Good luck! Shame that letter spoilt your day, we were so chirpy about the weather!!! Grin

Mummyluce - it does feel like a long time, but once past 30 weeks I'm sure it'll fly. I didn't have a 4d scan with DD as for me, although I found out the sex I didn't want to know exactly what her face looked like, shape of her nose etc until the big day. That said I've had lots of friends who have had them & have loved them. Especially as more often than not you get a DVD, imagine showing that to them when their a teenager! Mad!

Hope everyone else is feeling well. X

blondiedollface · 08/03/2012 21:51

Special I would definitely ask to change consultant - noone has the right to make you feel that way, and implying untruths is just about as unprofessional as it gets!

Had 25 week Midwife appt today at 25+5 and my bump is 2cm bigger than average, heartbeat was 142 and I've put on 10lb all of which midwife was super happy with! After all the grief from work and the SPD it was a really happy joyous day and DH and I came away with massive smiles for probably the first time!

Teamed with the lovely sunshine and spring-like weather it made for a good day!
Hoping you all had a wonderful day :)

bemybebe · 09/03/2012 00:36

Special you absolutely can change a consultant. I would do it immediately as there is nothing to gain from sticking with your current one - just speak to your GP about it, mine is very sympathetic to my concerns however minor they seem to me. I would also complain via PALS if you can be bothered. I would not change the hospital, but the risk is that come the delivery, she may be the one on duty! But if you cannot bear the thought of it, I would also switch the hospitals, after all the new place will just take over apart from the necessary tests that they have to take for all newcomers... what a pain, my sympathies!

ffnorm · 09/03/2012 08:51

Special sorry to her the consultant was so rude in the letter,Speak to your GP who will have all the correspondence letters regarding your surgery,so knows it was not "fantom" and ask him/her to get a consultant change done for you.Are you having any midwife interactions/app's? If so they could probably also assist you. Bemy makes a good point though,if you end up having and emergency C/S or assisted delivery and that consultant is on call, that's who you are stuck with...

Blondie glad you had a good checkup - it's nice when you feel like all is on the right track Smile

Mummy L I remember thinking that when I was pg with DS but with him I ended up having a scan at 28 weeks (because of underactive thyroid) and 35 weeks (because they ?? his position) so can't tell you if it feels long or not, maybe the other 2nd/3rd/4th timers can tell you. This pg again, I will be scanned at 35weeks this time due to my thyroid issue.

I am very pleased this morning,as the GP rang to say my chicken pox immunity is good,so no worries that I will get it from DS - so relieved Smile

thedogwalker · 09/03/2012 08:52

Mummyluce, I had a 4d scan the other week, My DH is working away for 6 months and so has missed all the scans, he felt like he was missing out, so when he came home for 2 weeks, I booked a surprise 4d scan for him. We both thoroughly loved it. I didn't have one for DS1 as I was living in Germany then and you get lots of scans out there, so didn't see the point. But I am glad my DH got to see the LO, he was just so delighted and the images are very good.
Special, that is so not on for her to write that stuff, I think it would be perfectly reasonable for you to complain and change consultant. I hope you are feeling better today and you get the answers you want. Give yourself a special treat today, you deserve it.

Hope everyone is feeling well, YIPPPEE it's Friday, and I've only got 5 more weeks at work, and then relax Grin, well until the LO arrives.

Kayzr · 09/03/2012 08:53

MummyLuce I am going to have a 4d scan. DP missed the 20 week one as he was away so we are having one for him to have a look. I'll probably have a growth scan at some point too the MW said.

Kveta · 09/03/2012 09:23

Special that's appalling, I would definitely change consultants, and also complain via PALS, as suggested further up thread. does anyone know if medics have training on bedside manner during their university education, because there seem to be a lot of them who need to re-learn how to deal with other humans!

MummyLuce I find the time between 20 and 40 weeks very tiresome too, but won't be getting a 3D scan, as I find the images a little creepy! Plus, as DH keeps saying, we'll see plenty of baby once its born... However, he didn't come to the 20 week scans for this one, so is about the least sentimental father you can imagine :o (after the 12 week one, he asked why the need for any more, as we've seen baby now - he is not very medically aware...) Plus I have a 36 week growth scan (as DS was a big baby) so will see baby again then. If DH hadn't been to any of the scans though, I think we'd go for a private one just so he could see the baby.

welcome back TDW! glad you had a good time with your DH - bet you can't wait until he's back again!

DS had his 1st dentist appointment yesterday and was surprisingly well behaved, letting the dentist count his teeth and going 'aaaaaaah' to keep his mouth open. He is apparently very delayed in tooth development though (he only has 17 teeth, and should have 20 by now), but as the little sod decided to do everything early except sleep and grow his teeth, I'm not massively worried (and luckily, nor is the dentist). Just wish he'd put more effort into sleeping and teething than he does into tantruming and whining. Hmm

AmethystMoon · 09/03/2012 09:38

Morning everyone

Thanks for the earlobe pinching trick seriously I will try that next time, fingers crossed!

Bemy I hope your Dh is feeling a little better, that bleed sounded horrid :(

Special I am so sorry to hear of your consultant's letter, that is out of order! It's even made me Angry! I agree with seriously, I would complain, that is disgusting and should not have been put in a letter.

Blondie Glad you had a good MW appointment, it's so nice to hear good news when so many of us are having a testing time, really pleased for you :)

Ffnorm great news about your chicken pox immunity, I bet that's a weight off your mind.

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks time is dragging, I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and it seems like forever away until my due date. I really am trying to make the most of my last peaceful months before my baby arrives but I don't think my body is cut out for growing babies...or I am just a bit too old Grin. The not being able to sit for more than 10 mins without blacking out is getting tiresome to say the least and my back is starting to play up (I expected this as I have mild spina bifida and a couple of other spinal deformities that I can't spell Blush). I think I'm going to have to mention this to my MW next week as my leg keeps giving way...god I sound a wreck don't I? Hey ho, there are far many more people in the world worse off than me and I am soooo happy to be having a baby at last, so life ain't so bad really :)....just roll on June!

SpecialJK · 09/03/2012 10:36

Hi all - thanks for the messages of support! Luckily my midwife is lovely, and at 25 week appnt on Wednesday I had asked to change (even before I saw this letter). Now I'm definitely going to put my foot down. they said hosp would call the next day to reschedule my appt with consultant, but typically I've heard nothing. If I don't hear by end of today I'm calling midwife again on Monday. I'm not sure if it should be her, or the GP I should speak to though?

It was quite obvious from the tone of her letter that she's pretty much determined to c-section me for whatever reason she can find. I know that they have a tendency with 'older mothers' (I'm 35) to do that, so I want at least a 2nd opinion. My sister had a much larger fibroid op than me and she was told she could do VBAC in the future. If I do have to have e c-s, then at least if I change hospital I can ensure it's not her doing it! i'm lucky that Frimley Hosp is only 25 mins down the road and gets even better results than the royal surrey which I'm currently attending.

on lighter notes!
ffnorm great news on CP immunity!
kveta love hearing your stories on DS, he's a bit of a character I guess Smile
amythyst sorry to hear about your back etc. I think you need to treat yourself to something over the weekend. Can you sit long enough to go get a pedicure or something?

I'm also v excited about the NCT sale tomorrow, I've got my elbows at the ready. I don't think I've ever got so excited about buying some 2nd hand clothes before!!! Grin

I hope everyone has a lovely weekend Flowers

Kveta · 09/03/2012 10:39

Special Frimley does have a good rep - I know of a few mums who used it! it's also very close to my grandmother's house, so I drive past it fairly often on the way to visit her. Lots of BirdWorld signs round there too :o

I meant to add earlier - ffnorm yay for the CP immunity!

OP posts:
TeaandHobnobs · 09/03/2012 12:14

Yay Frimley! That is where I was born Grin Mum and Dad still live there

DairyNips · 09/03/2012 12:24

Hey, it's Dalrymps here. Trying out a new name that's slightly less boringGrin

bemybebe · 09/03/2012 12:28

special i wonder if we share a consultant Hmm

TeaandHobnobs · 09/03/2012 12:39

Crap, I just bought and opened a chocolate mousse without thinking Angry

it won't do me any harm really, will it????? Confused

It's looking at me.....

Kveta · 09/03/2012 12:42

it'll be fine! it's only homemade ones I'd worry about, check the ingredients list though, if it says 'this product is made entirely from raw egg' I'd maybe avoid it, but otherwise, I wouldn't give it a second thought!

OP posts:
TeaandHobnobs · 09/03/2012 12:44

oooo ingredients say pasteurised egg white! I am tucking in!

(I'll be quiet now Blush)

MammaInTheMaking · 09/03/2012 12:56

i want a chololate mousse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Warlin · 09/03/2012 12:58

Happy Friday everyone Grin

Just a quick post as I'm really busy in work today :( but hey it's Friday!

special your consultant sounds like a right patronizing cow...I'd def change...surely at 35, you're not an "older mum??"

Sorry so many of you aren't feeling well...I'm not too bad just finding that time is dragging and carrying a heavy bump around is tiring me out...but touch wood other than that I can't really complain.

Chocolate mousse sounds good tea yum yum...I must admit I'm getting less fussy on the food front as time goes on!!

Have a great weekend everyone x

CathFin · 09/03/2012 13:23

Ahem, I actually made chocolate mousse a few weeks ago - decided the rather slim chances of me getting salmonella wouldn''t put me off. It was yum!

I'm going to St Peters for mine, was considering changing to Frimley but it is a bit further although its got a v good reputation which is why I was thinking about it.

SpecialJK · 09/03/2012 13:40

God, I really want chocolate mousse now. I may have to get some later. Up until now pork pies have been my thing. Just went into fridge to get one, and DH has taken it for his packed lunch. Hmmm, not good. he may get earache when he gets home Smile

I've decided to be pushy on this, so managed to get a GP appointment this afternoon. I'm not convinced that unless I make a stand people are going to be arsed to change my consultant.

I'm not a woman to be messed with when I'm on a mission Wink
