wino, dinnae fash yersel on baby size. My DH was a whopper. My mum was 10 lbs, her sister 11lbs. My dad was 11lbs, his brother 13 lbs. DS was.... 6 lb 13 oz (yes, a fortnight early, but still wouldn't have been a whale even if he'd gone full term). We had loads of 0-3 month stuff and had to go out and buy Tiny Baby stuff instead! Get a pack of cheapo Tesco newborn stuff and leave it at that, I would - they grow like weeds.

I won't need hairbands - got short hair - but lip balm is a must! And ta for the reminder about the whisky :)

Maiziemonkey · 02/05/2012 19:20

Hi all,

lip balm - hadn't though of that, could be useful
Primark is also good for the early stuff that just gets ruined anyway
excited for you Jars - nearly there at the finish line
lists making must be in the air as I am also following another thread and someone just posted one there as well! how weird

Fishandjam · 03/05/2012 13:23

'Lo mofos,

Hmpf. Everything has checked out fine at the consultant appointment - BP, wee, foetal size etc. BUT, the consultant cheerily said "oh yes, when you had your 13 week appointment with me we discussed you not being allowed to go beyond 38 weeks, didn't we?" Er, no. We didn't. I didn't get a chance to quiz her further (TBH I forgot about it while various BP tests and foetal heart rate thingies were being done, and only remembered when I was walking out of the treatment centre). So I suppose it means that I may be induced or CS'd at 38 weeks. Which makes my due date 17 June!

So thanks for the plonk and tequila, maizie. I feel like I need it!

Have at least managed to go to 'Sco's and buy some maternity pads, slipper socks, lip balm, facial wipes, newborn nappies, travel-size toiletries, dextrose tablets etc. The checkout assistant looked at the stuff on the conveyor belt, looked at me, grinned and said "hospital bag?"

Oh, and in other good news. proto-fish has apparently turned head down. The lump under my ribs now is apparently her arse.

Hello ladies,

I would like to pass round glasses of a lovely chilled sauvignon blanc. Had scan today - all present, correct and giggling. Now time to shit myself.

friedfrog · 05/05/2012 15:32

Crisps woo hoo, congratulations! May the shit yourself feeling begin!

Jam I can't believe how blasé they were about your bubba coming early! Omg that is like 2 weeks away! So is it def cs?

Tmi but today I feel like someone has kicked me in the fanjo!

Having a dinner party tonight, so I will leave the spare bottles of plonk over here, help yourselves x

Fishandjam · 05/05/2012 19:39

Nice one crisps! You can relax a bit now (helps with the shitting, doncherknow).

frog, my sympathies on the fanjo. I know exactly how that feels! I'm in so much discomfort, I'm thinking "two weeks less of being pregnant? BRING. IT. ON." Dunno if it will defo be CS, I suppose they'll assess engagement and cervical favourability (Bishops score, I think it is) and if it's all a bit sub-optimal they'll go for the sunroof option.

Totally TMI - has anyone else got really swollen bits? I think I must be rocking a kind of female mandrill monkey look down there.

Maiziemonkey · 05/05/2012 21:07

Hi all,
been following but not posting couple days as kept falling asleep in front of laptop.
Jars how's it going with turning bubba- strap on those knee pads and get crawling! Glad yours and Crisp's sans were ok
Had horrible, horrible bout of food poisoning with killer stomach pains and diarrhea last night(sorry if TMI) so feeling a bit like a wrung out dishcloth today. May never eat anything not cooked at home again! Again horrible.

Luckily for you wino have just opened a cheeky bottle of new world pinot noir it's a classic pairing of chocolate and red wine, don't you know!
Here's my list for hospital as we all weighing in:

change of clothes
pj's to sleep in
slippers (have tendonitus in feet)
at least 5 x walrus size cotton knickers
2 pairs socks
pack of baby wipes (for me you fools)
E45- can't go anywhere without it or I shrivel like a prune
washbag of toothbrush, flannel and hairbrush lansinoh cream and lip balm
mini toiletries(like it Fish)
£5 in change
big towel
birth ball deflated with accompanying pump
pillow
camera ( no camera function on phone!)
dressing gown
TENS machine
breast pads and walrus size sani pads
spare nursing bra
paracetamol and rennies
book and mobile phone with charger and ipod
laptop possibly
plenty snack food- cereal bars, juice cartons, fruit and biscuits
(was exteremely glad of this last time and didn't even do full labour)

for baby:
clothes, cotton wool and scratch mits.
nappy sacks
warm jacket to come come in

and that's why I need TWO unpaid slaves devoted birth partners
Above list is same as last time but added lip balm birth ball and minus massage oil ( will prob relent and stick that in when I go afterall) I needed everything last time but I was in for 6 days!

Seems like everyone getting ready now- shit I need to get my whatsit together and sort out babygros, buy more etc.

sorry for massive post x

Maiziemonkey · 06/05/2012 09:07

oh and nappies of course- i am such an idiot hahaGrin

openerofjars · 07/05/2012 13:37

Hi all,

Sorry, I did a post and then MN died on its arse again.

Have you seen the catsbumface "ooh, swearing is naughty" thread. FFS.

Anyway...

Mazie, hope you're feeling better soon. It's bad enough without having the squits and throwing up all over the place (even more) as well.

crisps, hooray re scan! Now get to that loo before you soil yourself...

fish, down to my knees, I tell thee. I won't let DH anywhere near me, poor thing, in case he thinks I'm growing a pair of bollocks. That with the varicose vein, if I wasn't pg I would be suspecting a spontaneous sex change.

frog, have you got SPD/PGP? I do, and it is exactly like that time I tried to vault a beam in gym class and missed. Also, if you take a step sideways (as if doing the Time Warp), does it hurt like fuck and make you want to punch someone?

wino, we hav shitloads of 0-3 months and DS spent about 2-3 months in it, and he was 8lb4oz, the wee fatty. He looked ridiculous in it as a newborn but it lasted. DH was under strict instructions to rush out to Mothercare and get newborn stuff if he was tiny, though. We only had about 2 newborn things and he got to wear them about twice, if that.

Okay, here is my hospital-if-needed-but-I-bloody-better-not-bag list:

One of DH's t-shirts to give birth in...
Black dressing gown
Black pj bottoms/sweatpants
Black feeding top
Black nursing bra
Black pants (old)
(it all matches and doesn't show stains - and you look interestingly different on the ward. Hellooo, Goth Mum)
Toiletries - I treated myself to a duplicate set of eyeliner etc so as not to bring my entire slap bag in.
Carrier bag for dirty washing
Breast pads
Nipple cream
Gin
Fanjo pads - massive comfy ones.
Slippers
Big socks
Water bottle with sports lid
Change for car park
Change of tshirt, pants and socks for DH
2x sleepsuits
2x vests
Pack of nappies
Wipes (screw cotton wool, not doing that again)
Sudocrem
Tiny weeny cotton hat x 2 - you might as well bin the first one as it will not survive being plopped straight onto your baby's sticky little head - get a basic one for the birth and a cute one for photos...
Food
Takeaway menu and cash.
Cartons of juice
Gin
Rennies, oh yes.
Paracetamol - do NOT rely on them remembering to give you these in hosp. I was left waiting for ages for pain relief as they were really busy. In fact, stock up on a range of pain relief options for afterwards.
Gin
Cheap fleece blanket. They tell you it's boiling on maternity wards. They lie. We froze on mine, in November, and hospital bedding is really flimsy. DS was okay, I had icicles hanging from my nipples.
Thankyou cards for MW and doc etc, with pen.
Notepad.

Shopping trolley to carry it all...

Disclaimer: I have actually acquired and packed about three items from this list, basically the stuff is still have from last time.

Lora1982 · 08/05/2012 04:33

morning girls. I miss my vodka n fags and Its only been a week ince i found out :-( tell you what though it was weird going from about 20 a day to my body being like 'nah even if its free I dont want it'

also id of been greatful if i was prewarned about this stupid waking up 5hours after u go bed and being wide awake at like 5am. rude.

Fishandjam · 08/05/2012 11:21

jars, make your DH pack his own naffing change of socks! And thank you cards? L8rs.

Re pain relief, they couldn't shovel the stuff down me fast enough. Used to get a trolley round every few hours, with a v jolly midwife who always asked if you wanted some codeine as well as the paracetamol "just to be on the safe side". Mind you, I'll be dropping at Hinchingbrooke, which is the one now privately owned and run by that Circle Health mob you know, the one owned by hedge funds with a CEO from the Great Vampire Squid Goldman Sachs itself which is going to cream off at least £2 mill from any surplus it makes from the taxpayer rather than reinvesting into patient care so who knows what the hell it's like now for that kind of thing.

I'm going to add a small jar of Marmite to my list - post-natal ward toast tends to only come with jam.

OP posts:
Maiziemonkey · 08/05/2012 21:33

Love the marmite idea Fish- wish they did travel size of peanut butter and all our fav breakfast condiments like hey do with shampoo.
jars I have spd, had it first time around too but much worse this time. Opening my legs is not so much of a prob but after a scan when laying flat on back it feels like someone poured bloody cement into my spine it's so seized up. The pains in fanjo and pubic bone aren't much fun either eh? ( and I get 4am hips and have to turn over every morning). Are you being told not to have an epidural cos of the spd or is it a ok ? sorry end of moan now.
Had to go to hosp yesterday and now have a new one to add to list- have "irritable uterus" get that eh, who makes up this jargon?

openerofjars · 09/05/2012 00:37

I'm not having an epidural, Mazie [well ard emoticon]. Not allowed with home birth, for starters, but I am also terrified of them. I know, the thought of something the size of a baby coming out of my fanjo is also mega scary, but not as bad as actual needles going into my spine!

The thought of not being able to use my legs also scares the shit out of me (ishoos relating to childhood injuries and subsequent hospitalisation for weeks). Love the idea of no pain though, and will report back if I end up transferring to hospital for an epi, but otherwise ooh, no ta. I will suffer with my lovely gas and air and if necessary diamorphine, which I collected today! And birthing pool, and, if memory serves, swearing a lot and biting DH's arm. Blush

Plus, second baby so the MW assures me it will practically fall out of my saggy body. I may just be able to cough it out. Nice...

Anywayyyy. I hear that with an epi and SPD you have to be very, very strict with the positions that hcps put you into so that you will be okay when it wears off again. E.g. no stirrups, legs not too far apart etc (although how we manage that when crowning I do not know). Clearly, bodies are not designed well at all for all this malarkey.

What is an irritable uterus? Is it when it is like a Braxton Hicks all the time? Poor you.

. Don't worry, it's great here really (whinge, moan, swear etc)!

Okay, off to bed - three days left at work, hooray! And my marking is allllllllll dooooooonnnnneeeeeeee! Until, like, February or something! Yay!

Fishandjam · 09/05/2012 08:33

Morning all (hack, cough, splutter),

I have yet another bug and am coughing up yellow phlegm, so my lovely GP (peace be upon him) has told me to have a day in bed to see if it clears on its own. Just as well as the repeated hacking is stressing my bladder horribly - Tena Lady here I come...

So tired of being tired. I'm supposed to be fitting a mediation into the 11 working days I have left!

Still, my little female cat is being very solicitous of my health and wellbeing. Last night she brought me a vole, and she'd hardly nibbled it at all. Sweet...

OP posts:
Lora1982 · 09/05/2012 10:50

Aaw Fishandjam... wish my cat would be so considerate. All she does is expect food when i wake up at dafty hours for no reason and then sleep next to my gead snoring in my ear, Id appreciate a nice lil dead animal to cringe over.

Lora1982 · 09/05/2012 10:57

So.. according to pregnancy tests you go see your dr. This led me to believe i should go see the dr, so i did, waited 45 god dam mins for him to say oh you didnt need to see a dr just fill in a form at reception. pfft seems there must be so many pregnancys round my way they dont like to clog up their time. Im not one to chat to a nosy receptionist about my sex life in busy waiting room.... spose this is the start of losing all modesty and privacy for me then.

Maiziemonkey · 09/05/2012 23:25

Yes Lora you got it about right- had same thing with " oh no we don't BOTHER to do another preggie test, why would we waste the funds!
jars yes lots of BH or something similar but sometimes a bit constant, but not painful at all. Just worrying in case it ws sign of labour kicking off but it wasn't.
I have heard same stuff about epi and spd which is why planning not to have if possible- but sometimes getting contradicting info from other sources. I plan to try managing with tens and gas and air but always keep 5% flexibility as don't know how it will go.
Fish sorry you feeling shitty- keep resting.
3 weeks and 2 days to go woohoo! then I am home-blessed baby

Impatientwino · 10/05/2012 14:54

hey all - work is really shitty and soo busy I want to cry and interweb is down at home while british gas tear up my street

will catch up soon I promise.

Must dash before boss catches me

openerofjars · 10/05/2012 21:07

I have awful back ache. I have to go to work tomorrow -lst day! - but I am having trouble walking because when I do, tinyjars feels like it is sitting on my coccyx - it is hurting my bum when I walk. AIBU to go and change into sweatpants for the rest of this pregnancy?

I need Chinese food and red wine. But DH is on the loo and I am in too much pain to drive across town to the only decent takeaway.

Sad

How is everyone else?

openerofjars · 10/05/2012 21:08

wino, crap work and Internet ishoos sucks. Sad for you too.

friedfrog · 10/05/2012 21:33

Good evening all :)

Fish I'm am so adding a portion of marmite to my hospital bag! How are you feeling? Are you being looked after?

Maiziemonkey your SPD sounds horrid, I think I get a bit occasionally but you sound like you are having a crap time of it. How is your "irritable uterus"?

Lora Yep you can always rely on the doctors for having no interest in your pregnancy! Luckily MWs are much better! How are you feeling? Stll missing the fags?

Jars Last day at work I think we should drink to that Wine (hands out boxes glasses of Pinot Noir!) Have you tried swimming to get little jars to move? I demand you get you DH to complete his business, get in the car and get you Chinese!!

I am still worried about my bloody placenta and Gary is still transverse ....grr! Scan is on the 25th. I will be so disappointed if I have to have a c-section rather than a home birth. I feel like I am being cheated :( I am doing every thing I can think of to move it. Sorry for the grumble! I seem to spend every free minute doing "cat pose" on my ball!

How is everyone else?

Frog xx

Maiziemonkey · 10/05/2012 23:38

Hiya Frog
Hope the maple doesn't clash with the pinot- if so will have to switch to chocolate fudge cake instead.
The SPD does get me down sometimes but I have seen loads of much worse stories on the net where people have crutches and stuff- at least I can stay relatively mobile. I am kind of into a routine with it at the mo but as we get to end few weeks and bubs gets heavier it all starts to get a bit more difficult.
I had it with DS but it came on later and was not as bad pains.
I have a stool at work and the day is literally always broken up into small journeys in between sitting down - even the journey to work.
Bakerloo was banjaxed one day and that buggered me up as i had to walk to a different station (about 5 min walk).
I went to a street food event last week with my work and didn't realise there wouldn't be much sitting down areas, spent a couple hours standing up and paid for it all saturday. I feel like I am like an old woman at the moment but I feel the same inside and want to do the same stuff I used to.
Re uterus I am getting a lot of Braxton-like tightenings but I don't notice them so much at work as i am occupied with what I am doing.
I really sympathise with Gary's position as Seb my little boy was back to back and I am determined not to have a repeat. Have you tried actuall going around house on all fours- supposed to be good for it. Or swimming on front to get them to swing around. Do you have a ball to sit on whenever possible.
I am going to ban myself from the sofa from about 34/ 36 weeks.
sorry for long post

Lora1982 · 11/05/2012 07:16

My lovely guy bought me an Adult size space hopper for my birthday.... before or this quitting smoking and vodka lark (sobs) from reading ur stuffs it sound like his thoughtful prezzie will have a brand new use in a few months time.

Lora1982 · 11/05/2012 08:09

Ive decided in the space of 30mins he aint all that lovely.... he just woke up and had a fag in the garden i can SMELL it... and this is going to be officially my first ever Vodka friday without vodka sobs :'(

friedfrog · 11/05/2012 08:44

Morning all (maple syrup dribbles off chins)

We actually have sunshine! Shock

Maizie I know what you mean ref SPD, my cousins girlfriend has been hospitalised with it, she is 38 weeks now but has been in there for 10 weeks bless her. She was on morphine and could no longer stand. Really not nice.

I too have banned myself from the sofa and watch tv on all fours. I am swimming every day and doing inversions....also bouncing on my ball hoping that might help. I spoke to my yoga teacher last night and she said there is not much else I can do! I googled it last night and i may try torches, music, and frozen peas next!

What had everyone got planned for the weekend?

lorna my dad and I have bun Friday instead of wine Friday! It does get easier said through gritted teeth

Peace x
