Maizie Isabelle and Lily are really popular around here. My first name was ridiculously popular so there were like 3 of us in a class, so I am really conscious of not giving a popular name. However....I have a Polish surname and know as a child, how frustrating it was when no one could say or spell it. I fine balance between individual but pronounceable is key I think.

Those of you that are a bot further along...do you ever feel like it squirms towards your hips?

OH has just gone out on a secret mission.......I am nervous!

Wino is there any room for OH on that bench....!!

Ps, love Eryn x

Maiziemonkey · 26/04/2012 19:24

That is so weird you said that Frog as last night DH said he likes Eryn now and he never did seem to before.
I don't mind so much if a name is popular as had 4 other people with my name at school and it did not bother me so much. MY DH sys the reverse is far worse as he was the only one with his name and so everyone always knew it was him being talked about- no anonymity.
We really do like Isabelle but it is my sister's name and I can't decide if it would be strange- but she is cool with it, even quite keen to be a namesake.

Maiziemonkey · 26/04/2012 19:25

Twitch has been doing major squirming movements today - feels like she is turning right around and also like she is brushing feet or hands across my tummy from the inside!

Passmethecrisps · 26/04/2012 20:24

dudes, nice name chat.

Those names sound lovely - all of them. They have the added benefit that I know of no children with those names who were . . .challenging. Being a teacher makes name choosing tough.

Still no scan date for me despite being 12 weeks today. Think I'll just give up and presume something will come out in 6 months - even if it's just a great big poo.

Where would you guys recommend getting maternity wear? I don't know if it is hormones but I am seeing nothing I like. Don't need yet but my thighs are grim in trousers so I would like some dresses. Have some Boden ones which are quite floaty anyway so might do me until the summer hols. When I go back to work in August, I imagine I will no longer care. Am I wrong?

In other news, have been craving champagne. How wrong is that? I am a lager girl anyway

friedfrog · 27/04/2012 13:59

Happy Friday(passes out the jam donuts to celebrate contemplates bump bumping but realises that is just mental!)

crispsStill no scan .....that must be incredibly frustrating. I am sure however that in 6 months more is gonna come out than a poo!

In terms of Mat wear, I have found that for basics, H&M, New Look and Gap are pretty good and the occasional thing from Mothercare. JoJo Maman Bebe do some nice things. I am 31 weeks now and have grown out of some stuff!

Maizie loving Twitch's acrobatic stunts, I am hoping that my fricking placenta would bloody well grow so that Gary can get out of its hammock! Have to say I do love feeling it move though!

wino jars fish how are you mo fos doing?

Peace...Frog x

friedfrog · 27/04/2012 15:31

PS There is a Dorothy Perkins and New look sale :)

Passmethecrisps · 27/04/2012 18:09

Nice call on old Dotty P's fried

Lots of lovely tunics there. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?

Scan date finally came through for next Thursday. FC it's not just poo . . .

friedfrog · 27/04/2012 19:16

Erm.....I am getting really sharp pains but only on my right hand side.....could this be BH??? Or could it be Placenta moving......???

To console myself we are having homemade burgers and Becks Blue :)

crisps that is awesome news, looking forward to hearing all about it.

x

Maiziemonkey · 27/04/2012 20:07

Hi girls,
reassured that some of you like all the names on the table.
frog those pains sound like round ligament pains- how many weeks are you remind me sorry. I had crazy ones at about 15-20 weeks.

Crisps it's not just poo- but that is a nail whose head you had hit as we can be assured there will probably be some poo as well as a baby on labour day- aren't we lucky!
I got a dress in Dott P which is great for maternity- very elasticated waist and few sizes bigger than usual. They do have a (tiny) maternity section where I got a really comfy wrap top- it feels like a bump sling, I am in love with it.
New look cami tops are good and only £3- got too large though and the neck actually only just skimmed my nips! Had to tumble on hot to rectify.
I really like the mamas and papas stuff too and they always seem to have some stuff in sale- check out the website and can get things delivered( think mat stuff is free delivery)
And for the last few weeks can just buy extra large hessian potato sack from local green grocers haha.

Maiziemonkey · 27/04/2012 20:10

ps what do you all put in your burgers- I favour caramelised onion, worcester sauce and some fresh thyme and chives. I do not put in bread crumbs or egg but know a lot of people that do.

friedfrog · 27/04/2012 23:29

Nearly 32 weeks now....god knows but it's stopped now!?

We tried a Heston thing where you mince steak and then turn the lines ( all in same direction) into a cylinder and turn them into patties from there, apparently all to do with directional fibres! He just adds salt! They were good though!

Anyway better get some sleep, I have a surprise tomorrow, no idea what it is though!

Night all x

Maiziemonkey · 29/04/2012 18:14

So what was your surprise Frog? The suspense is killing us all!

friedfrog · 29/04/2012 20:22

Hi all (Rolls into room due to food consumption this weekend!)

So he had bought me tickets to see wonderful town (it's a musical) and took me out for a bloomin lovely slap up meal :) All in all a nice albeit sober birthday :) And he did much better than last years gift of a hose!

Saw the MW this am, Gary is still transverse but iron, bp, heartbeat etc were all awesome.....started to discuss cesareans if bloody placenta doesn't f-ing move :( Angry

How was everyone's weekend?

Frog

friedfrog · 30/04/2012 20:22

Hello.....anyone out there.......

Fishandjam · 01/05/2012 13:01

Buon giorno ragazze,

I am now at the beginning of the month I stop work in! 30 days to go, yay! Not that I'm counting or owt.

Proto-fish is still breech and facing backwards - can feel her head under my diaphragm - which means the heartburn continues unabated AND she kicks me in the lumbar spinal nerves which causes the occasional leg collapse (and lots of truly vile swearing). Little bugger. And we do not talk about the limited bladder capacity. Consultant appointment tomorrow where they may or may not do all sorts of lovely tests (bloods, ambulatory blood pressure, scans or indeed none of the above). At least this time I'll know that when they give me the pee sample pot back, chances are it won't be empty and therefore I need to take it out of my handbag PDQ when I get home!

On the names front, we're currently looking at Elizabeth, Tamsin, Eleanor, Marianne, Anya (DH's choice that one, not sure I'm that convinced), Isobel, Philippa or Julia.

Any news? jars, you dropped yet?

OP posts:
openerofjars · 01/05/2012 13:29

Ey up, dudes.

Christ, I'm massive. Forgot that babies get so huge before they come out, and still a month to go, but Fishy, old chum, I got you beat: this is the month I have a baby in! Unless I go over into June, of course.

Frog, well done that DP of yours. Good man. Envy

Sooooooo tiiiiiiiired. Ad still 6 days of work to go, spread over 2 weeks. Argh. Kill me.

Baby Jars is head down but back to back, the silly idiot.

Impatientwino · 01/05/2012 13:33

hi all!

Hope you're all well, sorry I've been absent for a bit - being feeling like shite this past week - been totally fine up until now but am now tired, super irritable and generally feeling unwell which is a bit of a piss off. Just don't seem to be able to catch up with sleep or work which is really frustrating me. People at my job are used to 'super organised wino' and for the last week they've had 'super sleepy grumpy wino' and it's annoying me that I can't function properly!

Ah, ignore me, I'm sure I'll get over myself soon :) I am grateful to be healthy and happy and all that blah blah :)

crisp glad you got your scan date through finally, hope all goes well.

frog what a nice present! Good Dh! I will keep my fingers crossed re the placenta moving for you love :(

Maizie - I love Robyn, Lily and Isabelle/a and Eryn (althought spelt Erin) was in my top two if we were having a girl. The other girls name I like is Rose.

fish - hope your appt goes well and aces re the 30 day countdown!

I think all of your names are nice with the exception of Elizabeth but that's only because DHs ex is called that and she is a manipulative thieving witch I like names you can shorten or create a nickname so love the idea of Philippa/pip/pippa etc

I think we are pretty much leaning towards Sebastian. I can't find any other names I like as much but also on the shortlist were Henry, Edward and James so who knows!

Hope everyone is well and I'll leave some shortbread by the door (chocolate dipped of course)

friedfrog · 01/05/2012 19:59

What is with these babies non compliance! Gary is still transverse and its doing my head in!! I am even doing crazy exercises to try and get it to move!

Fish I am loving those name s :) we still are nowhere near that stage! We cant even agree on whose surname (we live in sin! Shock)

Jars I have 8 days to go between now and the 25th....we are going to paint Gary's room this week :) Are you nervous? Are you all "ready"?

Wino I know how you feel, and god help the person that says "baby brain" it makes me want to smack them repeatedly in the head tell them shut up! I am obsessed with getting everything done properly.

Sending love and a cold corona with lime my amigos

Frog x

DonnaDoon · 01/05/2012 20:23

Hey Frog did you read my update on tother thread about those crazy excercises? or are they new ones ? Only just caught up on this thread ...hope yall ok. Im coming up 14wks and at that stage where I just look like Ive put on weight with no real bump yet...feel quite fat and tired and scrap really...hey ho what can you do...? Just keep eating and sleeping.

Maiziemonkey · 01/05/2012 22:51

Evening ladies,
Went to see consultant yesterday and bp ok, wee ok, measured 30cm (31 wks - he said that is ok) heartbeat fine and twitch is now head down - hurray, i am just consoled she CAN go head down even if she switches back and forth several more times before DD.
He gave me a prescription for codeine if spd gets really bad I have it as a standby.
Fish I am also in month that I stop work in- it felt great when I renewed my travel and realised it would be for the last time for a while! My faves are Isobel, Anya and Julia but all are nice- Isabelle is one on my list.
Good luck with the scan Crisps- bet you are relieved you don't have to chase it now.
Am currently 11stone, 6 and want to make it to term within 12 stone. Since there are 9 weeks left it is going to be tight insn't i!
Lots of things I need to still do like sort out clothes, buy some more, buy piece for pushchair so it works again, ahhrg!
When are you all packing hosp bag, at about 32/34 weeks or earlier?
Am not nervous about the baby, just the birth as I bummed out of the end last time with CS.
I have heard crawling on all fours is best for turning back to back babes but not sure if believe in all the optimal fetal postioning malarkey...

Maiziemonkey · 01/05/2012 22:56

PS Wino my little boy is a Sebastian and we had some really good comments on his name since he was born. Go with your heart.

openerofjars · 01/05/2012 23:51

I still haven't packed my hospital bag. But I now finally have a Moses basket. With 4 weeks to go. Blush

I'm living on the edge, here.

Fishandjam · 02/05/2012 10:11

jars, moses basket (and some bedding, a few nappies and a babygro or two) is all you need IMO. When DS was born his room was still a dumping ground for junk study with computers and whatnot in, and we had a buggy with a carrycot and a car seat. That was all. And I hadn't packed my hospital bag either - gave birth in one of those lace-up-the-back NHS nighties.

As DS was in our room for the first 6 months (we did eventually buy a proper cot, though he was in the carrycot for ages), we had plenty of time to sort his room out after he arrived :)

This time round we will be just as unprepared on the room front. Trouble is, I'm so superstitious that I don't like to have anything bought in and ready - twas bad enough last time with the buggy (I didn't even want it in the house - really wanted to leave it with our next-door neighbours!) But anyway, my take on it is that the baby doesn't give a flying bollock if they're in a lovely moses basket with white broderie anglaise frills, or in a fruit box with a bit of blanket (though the HV might cock an eyebrow at the latter scenario...). So long as they're warm, dry, fed and cuddled, everything else can go stuff itself.

I am, however, packing my hospital bag within the next week. Current inclusions as follows - what have I missed out? (I'm assuming the worst, that I'll have to stay overnight for one night at least.)

  • lots of large pants (black)
  • maternity pads (not slimline - will need the padding!)
  • some of DS's nappies (maternity pads no damn use at soaking up broken waters - at at least they weren't last time)
  • cheapo wrap-around dressing gown
  • cheapo nightie
  • slippers (last time I was padding around the ward in bare feet and they got really grubby and covered in dust, which then ended up in my bed!)
  • sponge bag
  • a few babygros, vests and newborn sized nappies
  • baby wipes (lots, for me and proto-fish - yes, yes, I know I'm supposed to use plain water and cotton wool on her arse, but been there done that with DS and got fed up with it) and nappy sacks
  • glucose tablets and individual cartons of fruit juice
  • cereal bars
  • Lansinoh and nipple shields (influenced by bitter experience here)
  • Zita West Comfort Down Under balm (ditto)
  • trashy paperback (in the unlikely event I get to do any reading!)

Impatientwino · 02/05/2012 13:19

hey hey all

mmm ta for the beer and wine, perked me right up!

jars feck, I can't believe how close you are now! back to back is pooey, good luck with turning baby round. I hear haribo and kung po chicken work exceedingly well for that....

fish lip balm and hairbands are probably the things on my list (only in my head currently) that aren't on yours Oh, Don't forget your whisky! :)

I've had a look on a few hospital bag for dummies threads and lots of good ideas but if i took it all I'd need a suitcase not a bag! When I get round to writing my list I'll put it up here so you can all tell me not to be so daft and take some stuff off.

stupid naive question - DH is 6ft2 and was 9lb11 when born (gulp) and this one measured big on his 20 week scan so got a growth scan next wednesday - so I am assuming I'm going to end up with a big baby rather than a wee one sooooo how much newborn vests and body suits things should I get before 0-3 months stuff???

Please bear in mind that I fecking hate washing and would rather have more than too little and would happily spend whatever to avoid having to do much in the first few weeks - yes i know I'm going to be doing loads anyway but I have no clue? I think I have a 5 pack of no arms no leg things and a 7 pack of sleepsuits things in newborn plus a newborn sleepsuit my mum bought with some weird teddy on it Hmm

My usually lovely and thoughtful MIL keeps commenting about how much people will buy blah blah so not to buy too much EVERY TIME I SEE HER but I don't think people will come visiting with a pack of newborn white sleepsuits that I would have to wash anyway in the first couple of days - seriously, she is really hacking me off, I'm not a frivoulous person, I have bought things whilst on special offer and put them in the loft, DH and I have the money set aside for stuff we need and I have been saving like a bugger since I got my BFP and it's not like I've got 50 designer baby outfits or something!

erm, think I needed to vent that!

maizie, any more wine going? :)
