Maiziemonkey · 04/07/2012 12:51

hey guys, had baby Robyn at 3pm on tuesday after much protracted latent stage totalling roughly 40-50 hours most of that spent on ante natal ward contracting merrily(not) complete with own ball haha, think have record for tens which was on from 9pm saturday pm until 6am tuesday morning- my dh is luckily a WHIZZ with micropore tape.
was successfull vbac and once started active phase was 8.5 hr not too bad- had walking epidural and was quite impressed although didn't walk much due to other pains in my back and general exhaustion.
she weighed 6 pounds 11 and went home next evening woo hoo.
dh is totally smitten with her Smile tore like a bugger but only 2nd degree but lost litre of blood- mostly the tear but did not need transfusion as I am Iron-woman (all that spag bol was good use)
hope you ae all happy and feeling ok- I had addiction to hobnobs too couple weeks ago!! they are bloody lish

Impatientwino · 04/07/2012 18:40

Ah maizie congratulations!!!! Lovely name by the way! Enjoy every second with your newborn Smile

imp to be completely honest I have absolutely LOVED pregnancy!!! I have been very fortunate though - I had only mild sickness in the beginning which I could ward off with cake/carbs/marmite

I've felt really well throughout and have been a 'bloomer' - I think a lot of it is clean living to be honest! My friends have commented on how nice my hair, nails, skin etc are and now I wonder how bad I looked before!!

I've had the odd niggle with my back and got diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 31 weeks but aside from that I've loved it.

As I said though I've had an easy pregnancy and not everyone is that lucky before anyone pelts me with rubbish! I'm not trying to trumpet blow just giving a positive experience.

I'm sure folic would love to hear your news!!!

Hobnob count today: 5 Blush

Maiziemonkey · 04/07/2012 23:51

5 only- that is quite restrained i think, 5 packs, mmn, not so much.
congrats fish and any other ladies with bubs come while I was away Smile
< hands out waffles with honeycombe icecream and banana rum daiquiris>

ImprobableNotImpossible · 05/07/2012 09:01

Congratulations maizie sounds like a marathon.

Thanks wino that's good to hear. I feel like such a wimp, because I'm not actually having a terrible time, I'm nauseated most of the time, but not actually being sick and I can eat and drink, but it's just so exhausting.

I'm happy, of course, deeply happy in a way I can't quite express, but I'm also worried that after all this time and trying, I might just be no good at it. I worry that I'm too old and my body won't cope (I'll be 39 by the time the baby is born) or that I'm just too set in my ways. I fear being one of those dreadful women who you avoid when they're pregnant becaue they're always complaining about something and who's pregnancy seems to go on forever for everyone around them. So far I've only told a couple of people at work and no-one else has guessed, though, so I can't be being that obvious, I suppose.

I don't know, it's hard to put in to words. I think the first trimester is really weird, because you're feeling so much, both physically and emotionally, but it's still all really insecure and it's not really the done thing to talk about it in case it all goes wrong. I guess I'm just looking forward to having a bump and being properly pregnant and able to feel valid in wanting to sit down all the time!

Man, I was a lot calmer and saner when I couldn't get pregnant, wasn't I? Please don't lose all respect for me.

ImprobableNotImpossible · 05/07/2012 09:02

ps I think I'll pm folic when I get to 12 weeks.

WeeJo08 · 05/07/2012 12:28

Congratulations Maizie :) Well done to you and hubby and welcome to baby Robyn! She sounds adorable Grin

For those who are still in the throes of pregnancy rather than the graduates...I heard about this website (you've maybe already seen it on other threads) which is a collection of other positive birth stories - I think you can also find a "birth buddy" too (well, an online one I presume!) Anyhoo, here's the link: tellmeagoodbirthstory.com/

Improbable For me, moving into the second trimester helped a lot - I felt a lot surer of myself, not as tired and the sickness was gone (I didn't have very much to begin with, only nauseous really - never actually sick.) I feel pretty happy now - I am still nervous (I think that is my personality though) but feel more settled. The 12 week scan helped and then the MW appointment last week to hear the heartbeat was just brill. I agree about the first trimester - it is a tricky time. I was so happy about being pregnant but so, so nervous that I think I was biting everyone's head off for getting "ahead of themselves" when they started to refer to future events and talk about the baby. I was so anxious that something would go wrong (still am - but think I'm a good bit better!) I also thought that after the 12 week scan it would reassure me for a few days and then I would be back to nervousness...but actually I have continued to feel pretty good.

Sorry for the rambling post Blush - just trying to help and let you know I know how you feel but that (I think!) it eases a wee bit....not that I am an expert!

Here - have a banoffee ice-cream-y sundae thing (I just discovered these this week - NOM!) Grin

friedfrog · 06/07/2012 08:17

Hello......!!!

I am sorry I disappeared for 2 weeks, why do they not tell you that babies are actually time lords capable of bending or in fact stealing time!

Maizie massive congratulations! Sounds like you were a trooper!

I thought I better post birth story and to the graduates we need a post thread... I need to discuss merits of EASY vs Gina tyrant Ford.

So... I had a show on the Monday...then I started to pee myself...only dribbles mind but euwwww gross! I told OH about show and he went grey! Stating OMG this is really happening isn't it. That night he picked up the pregnancy book FOR THE FIRST TIME!

Tuesday was fine but I Tuesday eve I had a feeling that intact it was my waters leaking not me wetting myself! I called the MW and she came over for a butchers....dignity it now going as she sniffs a sanitary towel....anyway she thought it was waters but couldn't be 100% sure. This saga went on for a while! They called the hospital who said if it was my waters they wanted me in ASAP and induced. My MW were fricking amazing and basically helped me stand my ground saying I was healthy, happy etc and so was baby. They said I had til Friday....this caused for drastic measures! I was effacing but not dilating.

I decided wednesday I was having the birth I planned so I ate an entire pineapple, put on my tens machine (a doula told me it can induce) and went for a 2 hour walk in the heat! While I was out mw called to say they were coming to see me, cue star jumps! Spent the next hour bouncing on my ball. MW came to see me and told me to relax that night. I asked what a contraction would feel like and they laughed saying I would know. Ok I said as I had a few cramps but that was not it.....

I instructed OH we would watch a film and eat chilli nachos to relax, it's not half seven and I have just plopped the tomatoes in the pan when I mention to OH that cramps are quite regulat....he times them and they are 6 mins apart.... He calls MW whilst strapping tens to me. I am 2 cms dilated, she tells me to ignore it as this stage can take days etc......ok I think, she confirms cramp is contractions! I take 2 paracetamol .

I then paced, rolled around and swore whilst contractions got stronger, OH set up pool. At 10:45 I called MW again she came out and said I was 6 cm and I should come downstairs before I couldn't! I did and once in that pool it was like all pain went away, I felt chilled and lay about. Contractions got stronger so tried gas and air which did diddly but helped me focus and I liked to bite on something! Anyway I did moo noises said fuck a lot and them it was push time! Yes I poo'd myself but didn't know till it went past me and them after 8 mind her head was out, at the same time I got cramp in my thigh! 2 mins later she was out!

I can honestly say labour for me was great, yes it hurt but weirdly not in a bad way, I knew I could cope, I knew the pain would go and that I was loved and safe. My advice is listen to your body and relax.

I grazed and had one stitch but that healed within a week. The hard work has started now!

Sending love and hugs to all, please help yourselves to chocolate fondue and marshmallows

Frog xx

ImprobableNotImpossible · 06/07/2012 08:44

Thanks WeeJo that does help. I'm fine, really, I just think the first trimester is weird. As of today I have a foetus, not an embryo, which is exciting (in a medical geek way).

Frog congratulations!

Lora1982 · 06/07/2012 08:54

love reading birth stories. and im glad the poo made an appearance without being the star attraction... i hope it was sieved out swiftly like it never happened :-D ta for the tens machine bringing it all on tip ...I'll try not to use it constantly when i get to 37 wks.

14 wks today and still in denial

friedfrog · 06/07/2012 20:58

Lorna things I tried to bring it on (I was 5 days early)
Pineapple
Clary sage bath (I had one every day fr the Monday)
Walking
Tens
Ahem ....oral sex (this gave me an upset tummy but my show appeared within 12 hours of doing it!)
Bouncing on my ball (not connected to previous point!)
X

Maiziemonkey · 08/07/2012 10:59

cool birth story Frog- sure you are enjoying lots of snuggles now ahh!

What time was she born?

openerofjars · 14/07/2012 21:36

Aw, hello my beautifuls! Sorry to fuck off to the back of beyond for ages. It's that baby, she keeps needing to be fed, entertained, rehoused etc.

Congrats to Maizie, brilliant news about your vbac and your beautiful daughter (not in that order!). You fab woman, you.

Ace birth story, frog, I am v impressed!

Improbable, I bumped into Folic on another thread and she wouldnt find it weird to get a pm at all. I also heard from Tante on my live birth thread, so I think long memories are par for the course. Go for it.

Not much news here, apart from we got our mortgage agreed, finally, so we are out of here! Yay! And DD is doing beautifully: she is now over 11lb and off the growth charts for length. Clearly my awesome abs were cramping her style in utero and she is now expanding to her full terrifying potential. Ahem.

Big waves to everyone, sorry not to do a full shout out but I have to hit the sack before the Nork Monster wakes and demands her late evening feast.

Mollusk · 15/07/2012 05:27

Hello, 34, 10+3 and new to the group. Wide awake at 4am so have occupied myself by reading this ENTIRE THREAD. congrats to all who have turned their proto-babies into real ones. I'm just looking forward to my 12wk scan, which is on 23 July. And now, to resume my dreams of a brie and pear baguette...

friedfrog · 17/07/2012 22:36

Sorry for long absence been a bit crazy round these parts!

Glad is all is well with the babies and jars muchos congrats re the mortgage

Hope all is well with everyone else?

In wino news the blooming ECV didn't work Sad i managed 3 attempts before DH said enough - they couldn't shift his bum out of my pelvis and it was as fish described previously - fucking uncomfortable!

Still, was definitely worth a try! Anyhoooo this means that I am booked in for a c section on Monday - yikes!!! It's getting a bit close!

openerofjars · 18/07/2012 22:23

My word, that's come round fast! Good luck, my friend, and think of how nice it is that this means that your DH will now definitely not see you poo. Grin

My mate had an ELCS and she said it was bliss compared to labour, calm and serene as opposed to shouty and tiring!

Right, off to find the grads grads thread...

StrangelyCalm · 19/07/2012 14:00

34 and pregnant with first baby, due 15th of march :-) hello!

Lora1982 · 20/07/2012 10:36

right... i think ive got it. I currently dont feel pregnant... it just hasnt sunk in... but ive not really told anyone cept family and a few friends. i told a couple of ppl yesterday (im16 wks now so im over the worst of the scary period) and it started to feel a bit more real. i think if i tell everyone even if they dont give a shit, il consider myself pregnant... maybe.

Mollusk · 22/07/2012 07:22

Hi Shimmy and StrangelyCalm - yesterday I found myself gazing longingly at DP's bottle of red wine. Not had a problem up till now as the smell is offputtingly strong. There are also two mini bottles of pink fizz in the fridge from before I found out I was pg. Thinking of having mine if/when my scan on Tues goes well - or will the guilt eat me alive?

Anyway, off for brekkie - famished!

friedfrog · 22/07/2012 18:32

Wino thinking of you for tomorrow. Hope you enjoyed your weekend and you're all ready to meet your LO

Frog xx

ImprobableNotImpossible · 22/07/2012 18:35

wino Oh. Emm. Gee (said ironically, obviously)
You're going to have your baby tomorrow. That is so exciting.
I have a good friend who has had two sections and found them both very calm and positive. She says that she'll never forget the big, bearded anaesthetist roaring "It's a boy!" as her first son was delivered. I hope you have as good an experience.

jars congratulations on the mortgage, hasn't your house moving saga been going on since the old thread, or am I imagining that?

So, 10+3 here and all good. I had another early scan on Monday - the place I went to (which, incidentally, was lovely and I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a private scan in Kent) offer a free re-scan for women with "history" just for reassurance. There was much more to see this time, a kind of baby shape that was actually moving. My official scan is on 9th August, when I'll be 13 weeks, so not long to go before we can relax a bit and start enjoying it. The sonographer also had a good look at my urterus, which is arcuate (kind of heart-shaped) and reassured us that it shouldn't cause major problems, but I am at higher risk of breech.

Hello to all the new arrivals. I'm afraid I'm not very good at keeping up with everyone and joining in, but I hope everyone is doing well.
