I'm changing my fav ice-cream choice- Ben and Jerry's "Bohemian Raspberry" was heavenly, like frozen trifle with choc brownie pieces in yum!!
Frog yeah I know of pica but this was a pretty fleeting urge. Getting more stiff and achey but trying to keep it at bay with meds and birth ball exercises. Kept feeling worried about the codeine and so delayed taking it on saturday, then got really much too badly achey and gave in. I know it is better to take stuff before you past a certain point of pain but i can't help beating myself over the head about it. Sorry for the moan!
Bit too tired to post any more tonight but catch up tomorrow- hugs and smiles all round to everyone,< passes round raspberry custard pastries and belinis>

Hello all!

wino, I know exactly what you mean about the worry that something will go wrong. I?m far more skittish with this pregnancy than I ever was with DS (though I suppose that this time, I know that something may indeed go wrong ? though oddly I?m not mentalling about getting PE again, even though that?s the most likely scenario out of the tits up catalogue). Hormones play a big part I think. It also doesn?t help that DS is being a little monster challenging and spirited toddler and DH is under a lot of pressure at work and knackered, so tempers are extremely frayed chez Fish. Seriously, I sit and sob for at least 5 minutes each day. Then I pull myself together and have a biscuit.

jars, how are your stones and sticks? Mine are getting a bit full on ? gone up from maybe 5 per day to 10-20 per day, especially in the evening. And they totally kill my bladder. One of my mates said she?d had plenty of BH in the 3 weeks before she went into labour and that it could be a sign of things happening, but I?ve been having them since week 14 so am not setting too much store by that. I?ll swap you a baby?s head in your bum for a baby?s head under your ribs giving you heartburn if you like? Yes, the little sod is breech again and killing my digestive system. (Whingeing is allowed, by the way ? nay, necessary. It?s the result we?re all looking forward to after all, not the mechanism to achieve that result!) Look on the bright side - at least you're not at risk of a sunroof delivery...

maizie, what is this PE prevention by chocolate of which you speak? Sounds like my kind of research!

My hospital bag is now packed, though I?m sure I?ve forgotten stuff and/or will change what?s in there. DH has been threatened with being killed by fire (© jars 2012, all rights reserved) if he rummages in it to snaffle the cartons of fruit juice and the cereal bars.

I?ve also been reading the NICE guidelines on induction of labour. May even print them out and highlight bits (how anal am I) ? particularly where it says that amniotomy is not a recommended way of starting labour, and that offering an epidural at the start of induced labour doesn?t have any significant disadvantages over offering it late in labour. (Cos if I have to do the lying-flat-on-my-back-hooked-up-to-monitors-with-an-oxytocin-drip thing like last time, I am so having an epidural from the word go. No medals for bravery in this game.)

Toodle pip!

Evening girls,
Fish it was an article about a study in a newspaper.
Had last dental appt today and plaque score has only dropped another 4% which is crap as i have been scrubbing away much more recently- demoralising is the word. had to eat a krispy creme and drink a pint of yazoo to cheer myself up. Had banana in bag but "accidentally" ignored it.
On a bit of a sugar snap today as had jam tart, ice lolly and mini battenburg at home as well- I promise i will just eat healthy tomorrow!
What is spatone?
I don't envy you the induction posibility Fish - was quite pleased to hear it is hardly ever an option if going for a vbac.
< hands round plate of choc covered cherries soaked in ameretto>
hope you all enjoyed the sunshine- gonna be hotter tomorrow

Fishandjam · 23/05/2012 15:34

Spatone is a liquid iron supplement - comes from some naturally-occurring spring in Wales, see. Tastes filthy unless mixed with fruit juice but has done a lovely job of improving my tiredness (whether it's actually had a physiological effect, or if it's just a good placebo, I dunno, and don't care).

Just had bloods done which will potentially determine the proto-fish's exit date. I still feel OK so hopefully they'll be clear.

The sun has got his hat on hip hip hip hooray! I have just had ice cream for dinner.....very bad mummy but oh sooo good!

I have also just ordered a bouncer and mobile....when will the spending end!

Thanks for the advice Jars :)

openerofjars · 23/05/2012 23:35

Arse, just lost massive post! It was very detailed and had links and everything. Angry

It roughly went: Fish, hugs and good NICE research, ta, will look at in case of overdueness. Sorry things are poo and you are feeling crap. Sad

Frog, check out H&M, better than primark for cheap tops. Got 4 for about £18 on Monday.

everyone else have some freezing rosé and Parma ham.

We had our offer on the house we love accepted! Woo!

openerofjars · 24/05/2012 23:00

Aargh: I hate everyone!

Especially the man across the road who watched me unload stuff from my car and then drop half of it, for laughing like this: "Hur hur hur", and actually pointing, and I am annoyed with DH for not noticing (okay, he was getting a really grumpy DS out of the car, but still).

I despise T-mobile for making their phone bills, upgrades and price plans impossible to understand at 10:30pm. Okay, I brought it on my own head, but still.

And I am really pissed of at my ILs for not providing 3yo DS with an alternative to the birthday cake at DN's party today. SIL has a food allergy that we have to cater for, on pain of BIL getting the extreme face on, but I am forced to explain to an overtired 3yo that he cannot have the chocolate cake that everyone else is scoffing and the only option he can have because of his intolerance is an elderly, warm cereal bar from my handbag. And they are dicks for having a child's birthday party at 7pm on a boiling hot weekday anyway.

KILL THEM ALL WITH FIRE!!!

But I love you all because you will not judge me for climbing into a virtual vat of tequila with a bag of limes and the salt cellar.

It's too hot to be 9 moths pg.

friedfrog · 25/05/2012 14:22

Oh Jars you are so entitled to that Tequila! I am so impressed that you remained calm.....i would have unleashed the hormones!

Update on me.....last day at work, placenta has moved, home birth is back on!!!!

Passes out jugs of Pimms! xx

openerofjars · 25/05/2012 15:18

Friggin' brilliant! Get that pool booked, grab yer old towels, bikini top, garden hose and sieve, and we're away! Well done, that placenta! Have a lovely last day at work.

Ooh, the number of people last night who made home birth jokes, though: "If you go into labour tonight I've got an old towel in the car you can borrow," and "I bet the farmer up the road would help, they've just finished with lambing". And my BIL saying, "Oh, I wouldn't let SIL have one of those. I put my foot down about that, oh yus.". Jerkwad (SIL really, really wanted one, too Sad ). Imagine being proud of denying your OH something like that, on no medical grounds whatsoever, just feeling funny about it.

And breathe.

DH's family are lovely, really, just inevitably being the centre of attention and getting asked a load of personal questions/told what to do wasn't much fun. Anyway, the birthday girl had a great time, which is the main point.

Whatever. I can thoroughly recommend maternity leave: I have made huge batches of chilli today, saved £300 on my car insurance and researched surveyors for our house move.

Whatchoo all been up to?

friedfrog · 26/05/2012 13:06

Oh my gosh, how lovely is the sun! People are giving me sympathetic looks and look shocked when I say I am fine!

So what's everyone up to? Has anyone tried/started raspberry leaf tablets?

BIL sounds Neanderthal! But some people have a real aversion to HB for some reason!

Anyway enjoy the sun ladies, hands out calipos!

X

Maiziemonkey · 26/05/2012 15:05

only 5 working days left to go ( and unofficially might make it 4) .
Felt pretty shit yesterday as had stomach cramps in am, went away after taking my pain meds but returned once home from work. Went away again after a "difficult but successfull" motion both at work and then at home- (sorry tmi warning needed) but left feeling very sore and BH-ing all over the place. Even was BH ing in the night as every time got up to pee my tummy was pretty hard.
Felt back to normal today though so glad I did just stay at home and rest and not get checked out.
Had kinda scared myself thinking it could be partial abruption but twitch was moving around plenty so figured it wasn't. It is ssooo much worse to have digestive probs at work than at home- respect to all you ladies who had bad morning sickness, I cnnot imagine!
lovely sunny day!

openerofjars · 27/05/2012 09:04

How are you doing now, Maizie?

I also had really painful BH last night, properly eye watering, but they went away again. But I am definitely losing mucous plug in installments, and I don't think it'll be that long until I go into labour, days rather than hours, though. Hope so, because I have our buyer's surveyor coming round on Monday morning and am getting my roots done that afternoon. Then I can have the baby.

Has anyone else found that hair colours just don't work as well while pg?

Come on, DH, where's that coffee you promised me, eh?

Maiziemonkey · 27/05/2012 10:12

Feeling much better yesterday and today thanks Jars. Haven't had that many BH's either and a lovely nap yesterday from about 4-7pm . Maybe it was just stress from working week catching up with me.

That sounds exciting that you may be going into labour within the week! How many weeks are you? It is bound to happen at the most inoportune time- when the surveyor turns up perhaps?

I need to get hair sorted as well as my fringe is going in my eyes now. I have just been avoiding colour until after tbh.

Just noticed hands a teeny bit swollen today.
Have appt with consultant tomorrow- just checkup and follow up on last growth scan which was fine at 4 lbs 8 oz at 33 weeks.

< hands round raspberry custard tartlets to all> hey it's nearly eleven!

openerofjars · 27/05/2012 10:37

One set of PILs has just got back from a week-long cured-meat-Brie-wine-brandy-oysters binge in France. Envy. Me next!

I am 40 weeks tomorrow! Get on!

Re colour, I have foils, which is ok as nothing touches the scalp. But my god, does it cost the earth. I always wanted to to blonde and now I am, but I'm not sure we can afford the upkeep on my barnet until after I go back to work, after a final bleaching seth tomorrow!

Ask the consultant if the hands swelling is worrying, but tbh a little swelling is normal, especially in this weather. I think you need to get medical attention pdq if it's rapid sudden swelling combined with severe headache. But check. My feet went fat yesterday but have since gone down again, but my wedding ring is a little tighter. Last time I had to take my rings off at 37 weeks, so I'm pleased with getting to nearly 40 before the sausage fingers and toes set in.

Maiziemonkey · 27/05/2012 16:39

40 weeks cool! fully baked and set to go! eh? I will be 35 wks on tuesday.
yeah hands are no biggie- not markedly swollen, had worse last time and feet were much earlier- either better cos 2nd pg or coz at diff time of yr (seb born november as opposed to ?july with this one).
my DH desp would like me to go blonde as i promised i would after having seb and then chickened out as was in a chef job cooking for lawyers firm and thought they might mind so went black instead.
maybe i should go blonde this time around (after baby come and stop bf-ing)before i get too old for the sex benefits!
Great news on the house- when do you move in?
FishIs bubba still lying breech? done any all fours or inversions yet? there is a site called spinning babies - might have already been mentioned by someone else on here. Would you def have a sunroof job if they stay breech?
hey the sun's over the yard-arm!(whatever that is)

Maiziemonkey · 28/05/2012 21:50

Decided not to go in friday so now just 3 days to go! woo hoo

WeeJo08 · 29/05/2012 11:37

Hello ladies!

May I join you? I am very nearly 30, though what I lack in age I make up for in language that my Mum taught me would be ashamed of. I am nowhere near as far along as most of you (11+2) so still have a lot of first trimester jitters at the moment, despite having already had 2 scans. Obsessive, moi?! Blush

Currently I'm feeling good - much more energy than a few weeks ago and sickness almost entirely gone (though I didn't have too much to begin with and thankfully didn't actually throw up because I am fucking terrified of being sick.) Constipation is my main bugbear at the moment and although I know I should eat more fibre-y stuff to help I'd really rather prefer to keep eating pasta & pizza. Still knicker-checking like a mo'fo on crack as well. Looking forward to getting on to the 2nd trimester as I am excited at the moment but want to be more safely excited...if that makes sense?!

Hope you're all good. I'd like to offer an introductory gift of sticky toffee pudding and ice cream, wine and one of my favourite quotes which I think is very appropriate for you guys and all your killing by fire:

"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."
(George Carlin)

Jo x

Fishandjam · 29/05/2012 12:56

Welcome weejo! Thanks muchly for the ice cream - it's calmed my heartburn down a treat. Know what you mean about the knicker-checking, I'm still doing it at 35 weeks Confused

Thank fuckery it's not so hot any more. I managed to go over to Shropshire for a last visit (before D-Day) to my poor old ma at the weekend (while DH took DS camping with some other 2.5 year olds and their dads - sounds like it was Lord Of The Flies with sippy cups); got to Corley services on the M6 and it was 32 celsius. Plus the weekend drivers did my nut. What is so hard about maintaining a steady speed on a motorway? I must have overtaken one car at least 20 times - it would then get the royal hump and speed past me, only to pull back in and slow back down to 60 mph. Kill the driver with fire! (But once I'm safely past, I was hot enough as it was.)

Only today, tomorrow and Thursday at work to go, yay! I too have got me barnet done - full cut and colour as I am an evil woman who cares not a jot about the supposed risks of hair colour when up the duff - may have to resort to Nice & Easy once I'm not earning any more Sad

jars, any developments? Sympathies on the BH. Mine are definitely getting worse.

maizie, I had to take off my wedding ring a few weeks ago; it's now on a thong round my neck! Feet are a bit swollen too. I don't think the sprog is breech any more but TBH I'm not sure I'd know either way now - I can feel plenty of hard bits under my ribs but they may be feet/bum/knees! Consultant appointment on Thurs so I guess we'll know a bit more about what will happen next then.

Wino, frog, you OK? And where are you jewels?

The inlaws daily texting has started. Angry

There aren't the words.

Impatientwino · 30/05/2012 13:47

hello hello

sorry for abandoning ship for a week or so, not a great support network am I? Blush Someone slap me and steal all my wine.

Hope everyone is doing ok, have tried to catch up but at work so trying to be mildy covert so apologies if I have missed anything and say something stoopid later on

weejo - nice to 'meet' you - constipation wise, up your water intake by at least another litre a day, however much you already drink, that should get things on the move.

frog - glad you are back on the home birth - you must be so happy

maizie - sorry you weren't well, hope you're feeling better now, thanks for the cheesecake and vodders, just what I need.

fish - cripes, things have really sped up for you haven't they! Must have been a shock - 3 days left at work - awesome! I forgot that thong can mean necklace thing too and was thinking you had some kinckers round your neck, silly idiot!

jars - happy 40 weeks for the other day, sorry I missed it (I would have brought cake) sorry about the BHs - they smell of poo - nearly baby time love, switch your phone off and tuck into a dustbin of haribo.

Right, well I have been sulking a bit as I've been diagnosed wth gestational diabetes which has pissed me right off. my diet is healthy, I'm not obese and no history in my family.

Baby is absolutely fine and doesn't appear to be massive or anything according to tests so that is the main and only important thing.

got a blood machine that I have to test myself with 4 times a day but no insulin yet - got appt with diabetic midwife on friday to discuss further.

Am just miffed because I have been switched to high risk pregnancy, consultant led care etc so bye bye lovely midwife led birthing unit, bye bye lovely water birth plans :(

Now, I know FULL WELL that nothing is guaranteed with labour/birth plans etc etc anyway so it was only an idea in my head so I'm fine about it now - just needed to sulk for a bit.

I said to the midwife that I would probably be the one that arrived 3cm dialated screaming the house down for an epiudural anyway so wouldn't have been able to use the unit or the pool anyway!

got growth scan on 27th june at 36 weeks to access baby size and whether they will leave him there or deliver him earlier than 40 weeks by CS which I obviously I really don't want but hey, just got to wait and see I guess...

right, here are some serious chocolate brownies and some rather delicious dark spiced rum that I have been saving for a sepcial occasion... dig in girls....

Impatientwino · 30/05/2012 13:50

I really should proof read my posts for spellos and grammar before posting

sorry about the awful mistakes

openerofjars · 30/05/2012 22:23

Oh babes, what a pisser. So unfair. It's a good thing that they found out but sucks that you have it, poo. Can you redo your birth plan to avoid the bits of intervention you don't want? And they still need your permission to do consultanty things, you know.

I am 2 days past my EDD... I have a live birth thread going (obviously a bit quiet at the moment) called something like "I am an idiot" in the Childbirth topic and I will update on there if anything kicks off. The massed hordes of MN will therefore get more info and sooner that my SMIL, but then that's what she gets for texting me every day. Grr. They go on holiday in five days and are desperate for me to give birth in the next couple of days. Whatever. Two can play at that game.

Okay, what other silly bastard is sunburned? I got to the last day of the good weather, went to the park and forgot to put on suncream. I hope Bumpy likes the taste of aftersun. Oops.

Hi, Weejo, come on in, pull up a chair and have a large gin or whatever takes your fancy. I personally am on the Kir Royales this evening (only on here) but the waiter will be along any moment to take your order.

I brought meringues. Anyone?

Maiziemonkey · 30/05/2012 23:05

Hi all,
kudos to newbie Jo on the George Carlin quote (btw did u know range on a hand held flame thrower is 50-100m!)- was just watching some of his stuff at the weekend and i adore his turn as a rather-less-than-typical priest in "Dogma".

It sure is hot again so help yourself to some of this massive keg of PROPER apple scrumpy (with pieces of apple etc floating therein) It will get one (virtually only) "Proper *cked (sic Snatch circa 2000 )

Sorry to hear about your diabetes Wino that is a bummer about the birth plan changes- sounds like you are being well sensible about it though. At least you have some time to get used to the alteration- I had birth and mlu plans too right up until D-Day when had high BP and had to adjust there and then Smile

Maiziemonkey · 30/05/2012 23:30

jars only few more days and they'll be out of your hair, phew!

openerofjars · 31/05/2012 10:44

I have now read them the riot act. They phoned this morning, SMIL to ask if I was in labour yet and FIL to jocularly ask if he needs to boil water and start ripping up towels.

I told them both that although I love them both dearly that they would get a call when the baby was safely here and that, although they are understandably keen to find out, stressing a pregnant woman is not a good idea, medically speaking, in case she turns up on your doorstep and hurts you and you need stitches. They are utterly salt of the earth and lovely but need telling things like this, and that you don't take the only comfy seat in the room when your DIL has episiotomy stitches, etc. Hmm. Anyway. How are we all this morning?

It's a lovely thread, this , because we have everything on a scale of still-freaking-out-that-it's-a-positive-test to fatty-about-to-drop and the eight months in between. I'm going to post this and then find the stats for updating...
