notso you could be onto something there...

Bunsouttheoven · 27/03/2012 19:21

Haha to wearing pant to give birth, some people are truly bonkers.

I myself gave birth in the nud, both in & out of the pool. Couldn't stand having anything on at all & didn't feel in anyway inhibited by my nakedness. In fact I would go as far as to say I would have given birth on stage at the O2 & not given a monkeys. It's all very primal ime.

spannermary · 27/03/2012 19:22

Excellent plan!

JambalayaCodfishPie · 27/03/2012 19:36

At least having a water birth would solve my current labour/birth fear.....

.....Hot weather, and only being able to fit into sandals = smelly feet. Had this horrible premonition of a MW trying desperately to get at my crowning baby but being held back by the stench of my feet. Blush

I dont even get particularly sweaty feet, its just another silly pregnancy niggle that i've blown out of all proportion! Grin

Just back from 39-week appointment with my lovely British midwife. All is good. My initial BP was high but I'd just climbed upstairs to the office so she did it again at the end of the appointment and all was fine. Think I'll take the lift next time!

Feeling pretty tired but guess that's life. Bump feels permanently rock hard now - does that mean anything?? It's even harder when I have BHs.

I was thinking today about what to give birth in - definitely not knickers, crotchless or otherwise!! But that should be a product - I can see it now on Dragons Den!
Think I'll just wear the hospital gown. No water birth option at the hospital but there is a jacuzzi I can wallow in.

VintageNancy · 27/03/2012 19:45

Lol Jambalaya Grin. You could pack pegs in your hospital bag just in case? :)

spannermary · 27/03/2012 19:49

Me too, Jambalaya - I normally have freezing feet but the last couple of months - wow!

HollyPockett · 27/03/2012 21:49

Hi bearcrumble blood pressure last done at 36 week appt (am 38 tmrw) and was spot on. I'm a migraine sufferer and it was exactly like they can be. I'm back at the MW Friday for 38 week appt so will mention it again and will have BP done again then too.

Last day at work tmrw before mat leave.... Hoooooorah!!!!!

HollyPockett · 27/03/2012 21:52

Adding to the smelly feet convo, my feet smell at the best of times so you can imagine what they're like now!!! It's not pleasant!! The poor Diva will arrive and wonder why her mum's feet smell so bad Blush

riamay2011 · 28/03/2012 08:46

Hi ladies,
Just thought i would pop in even tho i was a march baby....Blush and let you know i have upoaded some photos of my girlies.
xx

Emsgale · 28/03/2012 10:42

hello ladies well im 38+4 and really wanting it all to come to a quick end now lol!!

I too have ridiculously smelly feet my dh and mum insited I wetwiped them and sprayed with deodrant as they were stinking them out this is not somthing I suffer with normally v odd!!

im getting lots of shooting pains in my bum almost right into my bum hole sorry (tmi)!!!

digitalgirl · 28/03/2012 11:12

Riamay gorgeous girls! Do stick around - ds was born early in Aug 08 but I still hung out on the Sep 08 thread, as I didn't know anyone on the Aug thread.

On the foot thing: I've been pumicing weekly and rubbing foot cream into my feet which has mint and an anti-sceptic - feet are so swollen that dh has been rubbing them every night. Least I could do was make sure he didn't gag while he was doing it.

Just had my mw appt - bp fine, baby's hb fine. Measuring 39cm. So still only 2cm bigger. Supposed to book a sweep in for 39 weeks and no mw will touch me before 40 - so have been booked in to see a obs instead. That'll be fun. Not. Come on baby! Let's not get to 39 weeks!

Another beautiful day, another day of sitting with my feet up in the garden. MIL coming over later, hopefully to make me a cup of tea. Right, must go hang more laundry.

spannermary · 28/03/2012 11:44

Absolutely, riamay - we're all April girls - even if some cooked a little quicker (or will take a little more time...)

BTW, digital - you sound like a bit of an expert about sweeps. I will be booked in to have a sweep - at home I think? - at 40+7 (or do you say 41?) "If I want one".

What are they like? Are they safe/unpleasant/useful? I'm 38+3 so have a while to think about it but feel like such a novice...

Flisspaps · 28/03/2012 12:35

spannermaryI'll jump in with my penny's worth here...IMO sweeps are useless. They only work if you're ready to go into labour anyway, having had two with DD (one without consent Hmm when the MW was meant to just do a quick assessment of my cervix prior to induction)

I shan't be bothering having one this time. They're generally thought to be safe, there is a slight risk of breaking your waters if done too roughly and you're dilated enough. Infection risk is low. Most women seem to find them uncomfortable (understandably) but some can find them bloody agonising - it depends entirely on the woman and whoever is doing the sweep.

JambalayaCodfishPie · 28/03/2012 12:38

Glad I'm not alone with my poor feet!

Just had my 36 wks MW appointment, and been referred to the consultant/ for a growth scan as baby hasn't grown in two weeks, and it was smaller than it should have been before then.

Not overly worried as still feeling lots of movements, think I just have smaller babies - DD was only 6lb4 at 2 weeks overdue!

OP posts:
balkanscot · 28/03/2012 13:05

Ladies, feet wise (37+1), not so much of a smelly problem here but they definitely got wider, argh! Every single one of my pairs of shoes are now pretty much excruciatingly tight. Apart from the stretchy/flexible Nike Air Rift. Please let them get back to normal after the birth, I don't fancy shopping in the "wider fit for better comfort" aisles...

Baby keeps on dropping - the bones down there are really uncomfortable, not so much painful, feels like I have been disassembled and not quite properly assembled again.

Jambalaya, good luck with the consultant, I am sure most of us are predisposed to having smaller/bigger babies. They keep telling me I am on the bigger side but we'll see.

balkanscot · 28/03/2012 13:17

riamay2011, beautiful girls! :)

spannermary · 28/03/2012 16:12

Thanks for that, Flisspaps. it sounds like the only real benefit of a sweep would be to test out how well my relaxation techniques work!

I know that I'm not a fan of unnecessary induction, and would've refused an ECV had it come to it. Based on that, my instinct tells me that I'd rather not have a sweep - but then who would want one really? So even though I would prefer spontaneous labour, I am trying not to close my mind to potentially helpful procedures.

More thought needs to go into this, I think, although I'm not keen!

Also..no idea why that posted twice!

digitalgirl · 28/03/2012 17:01

spanner am glad fliss replied because I am not an expert in such matters. DS came early last time so didn't need a sweep. Have just been told to book one in at 39 weeks in the hope that it gets things moving before my due date. It may or may not work. Will probably be very uncomfortable (especially if a doctor is doing it rather than a midwife - just can't imagine they'd have done more sweeps than a MW). Not particularly looking foward to it but it is on the same day that I'm having acupuncture - so who knows, maybe the needles and the rummaging might shift something. I feel pleased that I've got a plan in place though so I'm not left to wallow around till past 40 weeks. I know that sounds different to how others feel, but I'm just so keen to meet this little one after all the trouble its taken us to get this far!

You've got plenty of time to consider your options though. Who knows, if you do get to 40+7 you might be up for anything no matter how ineffective it seems!

newmummyvicky · 28/03/2012 17:54

A big congrats to Bommerwang
a real cute name. Thanks

Ive not been on for a few days, but nothing intressing has happen :(
The BIG DUE DAY is today......
Ive been getting low down pain on and of still, quite low in pelvis. Bump is rock hard now, and feet have enlarged to a size six, was prev a size 5 lol. Only 2 pair of shoes fit me now, but have taken to wearing sandles in this weather lucky!

Ive been trying long walks on the sea front, ball bouncing, Colostum milking and even manage sex the other night! Nothing is working, baby is def not reading to come out yet.
I think its happy to hold on till april. Having my sweep on 40+7 next wednesday. But my friend did say they are a waste of time too, she had 6 with her late baby.
I will not be able to get a induction till 40+12 here in somerset.
so fingers cross he/she will not be naughty and come soon. Confused
xx

Boomerwang · 28/03/2012 20:58

Hi guys

Riamay your girls look beautiful :D

NewMummyVicky I'm keeping my eyes peeled for your news, hope it starts soon for you!

On the TMI front, I can't do a number 2 Blush I'm very constipated now and when I try to go I can feel it pushing against my perineum, which tore during the birth and got stitched up. I'm guzzling lactulose in the hope that it'll help while my body gets itself back to normal. It's quite painful ><

My nips are caning. I tried nipple shields but they are useless. You need to have nipples like traffic cones to get them to stay on and mine are just nubs! I could do with some anaesthetic cream -.-

Baby girl's jaundice is finally going away, although I think she still looks bright yellow. After dropping down from 2.175kg to 2.045kg she's back up to 2.125kg (metric measurements here) and I've just realised this information is boring to read...

I'm so wrapped up in 'baby' world that whenever I'm invited into a conversation I often can't work out what people are saying because I immediately try to relate it to a baby situation. I hope this passes :)

WhenDoISleep · 28/03/2012 21:34

Congratulations to Boomer and UglyMush. You have chosen a lovely name Boomer. It was very good of your DS to decide to pop out just before your induction UglyMush.

riamay I agree you should stick with the April thread

spannermary I agree with Fliss that a sweep will only work if your body is about to labour anyway. If you are not ready, then all it is is a not very pleasant procedure. That said at 41 weeks you might be in a state of mind where you want to get labour started, and a sweep might help. Trouble is there is no way of telling which way your body will go.

I had a sweep at 40+8. It was done by a consultant obs, as I was seeing her to discuss expectant management as opposed to being induced at 40+10. She offered to give me a quick exam to check what my body was doing and offered to sweep me at the same time if things were looking favourable. As it was she discovered I was 2cm and she could stretch me to 3cm, so she gave me a through sweep and said that in her view I would labour before the weekend (I saw her on the Tuesday morning). In the end, I knew the sweep had been productive, as I began to have v minor period type cramps as I was walking out of the outpatients dept. The cramps continued regularly through out the day and tailed off in the evening. Went to bed and was woken up by an almightly contraction at 6am next morning - DS delivered that evening.

I saw my midwife for my 36 week check today - all fine. Discussed my birth plan, got told it was probably the best the midwife had ever seen Blush. I'm meant to see my GP for my 38 week check but see the midwife again at 40 weeks - have a sweep booked at that appt. I'm not sure if I will want one at that point, but I would rather have it booked and decline on the day than not be able have one if I want because there is not enough time.

We had a scan on Monday - DS2 is looking good, head down and on my right hand side, but currently OP, which I expected to a certain extent as my placenta is anterior. Current weight is estimated at 6lb 12oz - which means predicted 9lbs at birth. I know weight estimates are notoriously unreliable at this stage - however I had a scan at the same clinic with DS1 at around the same gestation and, having looked back at the report from DS1, the projected weight at birth based on the scan is very accurate (within a few ozs). It will be interesting to see how accurate the prediction is this time.

Flisspaps · 28/03/2012 22:03

Boomerwang have you tried applying gentle pressure to your perineum
