Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tomatoplantproject · 02/03/2012 20:16

Hello pipsicles. You could always ring nhs direct and speak with someone that way? I guess they'll make a recommendation about what to do based on how bad the cramps are and the amt of bleeding? Congratulations on the bfp!!

TheDetective · 02/03/2012 21:46

You can usually ring EPAU for advice - depending on the Trust. Ring your local hospital and ask for early pregnancy assessment. They should be able to offer appropriate advice, and if they think you need to be seen, invite you in.

Alternatively you could book a GP appointment tomorrow, but to be honest - what can the GP do? EPAU would be a better option.

Only you can decide if the cramps are enough to concern you to get advice earlier, or take a wait and see approach.

Tiago · 03/03/2012 06:51

pipsicles AFAIK it could still be part of the implantation process, as the embryo starts to develop the placenta. Alternatively it may have implanted near a blood vessel, which is 'leaking' for want of a better word. Or it could be breakthrough. As I understand it it is quite normal, so try not to worry.

Iheartpasties · 03/03/2012 10:09

Fingers crossed for you Pipsicles.

How is everyone else doing? :)

I still don't know if it has sunk in yet! It feels funny trying to remember what I am supposed to be doing. My brain already feels fuzzy! Silly hormones. I'm trying to remember the foods to avoid and when to get a scan and to take the folic acid everyday.

I'm kinda trying to figure out if I want a new or second hand double buggy, and I'll have to get a new cot! And we are going to save up for a car but the sooner we can get one the better.

Stuntnun · 03/03/2012 10:10

I told my parents last night. My mum seems to be cautiously pleased but she's a health visitor so babies are her bread and butter! My dad said 'Are you sure?' so I said I thought it was a bit late to change my mind. I want to tell DH's parents tonight since they're coming round for dinner but he doesn't want to tell them yet the big coward!

pipsicles · 03/03/2012 11:48

Thanks for your advice ladies, all seems to be well now. Spotty has stopped and I am still most definitely getting symptoms - haven't stopped feeling sick since I woke up! We're seeing my parents tomorrow, so will tell them then, but not sure when to tell PILs, as they live on the Wirral and we don't get to see them that often. We'd love to tell them face to face, but would rather not be showing before we tell, as I think that's a little unfair, so it might have to be over the phone!

I remember my parents being cautiously pleased last time too, but I'm strongly of the opinion that I personally would need the support of our close friends, family and even some collegues if things were to go wrong, so the news is already starting to spread - more from DH than me!!!

Stuntnun · 03/03/2012 13:24

You're rightPipsicles, I didn't tell too many people that I was pregnant the last time but then I ended up telling everyone in my office when I had the miscarriage because I was worried I might burst into tears or something at work and everyone would be wondering what was going on.

It's very hard to keep a pregnancy secret when you're rushing to the loo every five minutes and you've suddenly stopped drinking tea and started eating ginger nuts all the time!

horseylady · 03/03/2012 15:07

Am ok just need to keep remembering to take folic acid! I forgot yesterday and am working split shift today without going home so now I've written it down I should remember!! First job nhs so hoping to keep it quiet 2nd job in a kitchen so hoping food won't be too much of an issue :/ may end up telling them if it is. Off to the farm now!!

LittleLolly · 03/03/2012 15:52

pipsicles I had what I thought were my usual AF pains when my period was due and was very surprised to get my BFP! The AF type cramps continued for the whole week and then on Weds I started getting sharp pains too. Went for a scan at EPAU and the sac is in the right place so I'm trying to relax now and just believe that they are simply 'settling in pains' like everyone has told me and google has told me! It's just hard to stop your mind running away with you and imagining the worst! I'm sure everything will be fine with you aswell.

horseylady I keep forgetting to take my folic acid too, and I was so good at remembering every day when we were TTC, I don't know what's happened!

TheDetective · 03/03/2012 19:14

OMG. The entire world must know I am pregnant. Mum has told everyone - keep getting congratulations texts! I'm not even 5 weeks for christ sake!!! Considering her reaction - I'm surprised at her telling everyone! And she showed me the knitting she started....

We haven't even told DPs mum yet, and DS's Dad - or my Dad. But Tom Dick and Harry bloody well know. I told her I was still very early on yet too!!

Tiago · 03/03/2012 19:17

Your mum doesn't do things by halves TheDetective Grin. I have considered taking up knitting, but the baby will likely be 18 before I get the hand of it, so not impressed with a small cardy or some bootees, however nice they are!

TheDetective · 03/03/2012 19:17

Forgot to add - silly me - any other contact lens wearers suffering dry eyes? I didn't last time, but this time they are really dry and irritating my eyes. Been mascaraless for two days and I am less than impressed!

I knew it could happen - just hope it settles down!!

pipsicles · 03/03/2012 21:50

Thanks for reassuring words. I am feeling SO much better today and decided to stick to my mantra of the past two weeks that if the time is right, then it will all be alright.

Tiago, I knitted a patchwork blanket for DS - loads of 4x4in squares and then sewed them together and backed it with some nice soft cotton. It's far from perfect, but it was made for him and I love it! The only thing is, that the pressure is now on for me to do another one for this DC (still can't get used to saying that!!! Grin) the pressure is all from me of course, because I am determined to try not to let my second baby be treated any differently to DS - impossible, I'm sure, but I'm going to give it a go! When on earth I'll be able to find time to knit whilst running around after my 12mo and working part time, I dont know, but I'll try! Good luck if you do decide to embark on something - I found it quite therapeutic.

TheDetective · 03/03/2012 23:44

Anyone want to talk nurseries? Grin

Last time around everything was done with little money, and with no real idea what I should buy!

This time, I know exactly what to get, and what is good value for money. I intend to get a cot bed, and a really good mattress, and lots of comfortable blankets. Makes sense - the comfier, the better the sleep! With my son I got a cot, but he quickly needed a bed after climbing out the cot. So, with in 18 months I had paid £100 for a cot and £50 for a mattress, then another £180 for a toddler bed and mattress. So, going for the better option this time!!

Our babys room is 2m x 2m exactly - so am planning lots of space saving/storage ideas. I have decided to get a tall corner wardrobe from ikea, which is similar to what we already have, and great for storage. Other than that, I was going to get a floor standing narrow shelving unit, similar to the Expidet ones in Ikea, to put baskets on. There isn't much room for anything else after that, so possibly going to have some wall shelves, and under cot storage. It should be fine for 2 years or so, we have a large living/dining room, and DP agrees to get rid of his computer for a laptop, so we can have toys downstairs!

After that DS will go in the box room in a high sleeper, as a teenager he won't need the space so much, he is quite happy with this plan!

So really, this is just a nursery for 2 years.

However, I want the furniture to last - DS's didn't, and it was impracticable once he grew that little bit bigger. I wouldn't mind, but it wasn't cheap. Just didn't last and out grew it quickly! At least I know the ikea furniture I have chosen should last a long time, and isn't expensive at all.

Guess our biggest expenditure will be a pushchair. I went through 11 of them with DS, so going to have to sort myself out this time and stop being so indecisive and chose one to last the way through!

Anyone else been making plans already?!! I have made a budget for all expenses prior to our arrival, and in order to spread the cost we will stary buying from 12 weeks. Starting off with furniture and other things which won't go to waste should the worst happen... total worked out expense is £1500, and that isn't including clothes past the first size. The bedroom furniture including cot and mattress comes to £320, which I am very happy with!

Share your plans with me! Or is is just me who is so anally organised?! Grin

Stuntnun · 04/03/2012 09:09

TheDetective make sure you buy units where the containers won't come all the way out easily, otherwise your toddler might pull them out on to him/herself.

ValiumQueen · 04/03/2012 09:14

11 pushchairs? (feints)

I have thankfully found a few bags that were destined for the charity shop, full of baby stuff. We sold our pram, that lasted 3 children (bought second hand) for 80% of what we paid for it, so cannot really complain. I will be getting a new one for this baby, but it will be a pushchair type.

Everything we got for the girls was second hand except for the toddler bed and furniture (pink and red stuff from Ikea) That will last for no.3, with a coat of paint if it is a boy.

I can highly recommend gro-bags - better than blankets IMO

The kids have always had new pants and socks, and pjs!

PetiteRaleuse · 04/03/2012 12:50

Can I join please? Due 2 Nov with DC2... but will probably be early as no doubt ELCS...

I haven't told anyone other than my DH and the lady who sells me my sandwiches most lunchtimes...

Stuntnun · 04/03/2012 13:31

We need a new list!

TheDetective · 04/03/2012 14:11

Oh. No. I have the nausea. At 4+5? Unimpressed. Was feeling so good until this morning when I woke up starving/nauseous/dying for a wee.

I've eaten, but the nausea is still present. I think I will hurl before dusk sets in lol! I've had to relegate DS to the small sofa as the constant fidgeting and movement is making it worse! He is currently giving me the evils.

Please let me get through DS's birthday next weekend if it really is going to kick in and be as bad as last time! We're going to the Blackpool Sandcastle after a sleepover the night before... and I have rides to go on!

Random people me and DP know keep guessing our news too. No such thing as a secret these days, is there?! May as well just tell the world at this rate. I'd really only wanted our mums and 2 friends to know initially. Apparently - we both look 'different'. Hmmmm.

Oh well.

Oh, and last night I did another CB digital, just to see, and it says 3+ now! In 7 days it has gone from 1-2, to 2-3, and now 3+. I can only assume my HCG is rising at a good rate. I was 3+4 with the first, 4+0 on the second, and 4+4 on the third.

Stuntnun · 04/03/2012 14:42

Poor you TheDetective it's amazing how fast the symptoms kick in. I knew I was pregnant about 5 or 6 days post ovulation because I was falling asleep every day after dinner and I couldn't get more than halfway through a cup of tea without feeling queasy. I now have decaf tea but it's not the same Brew

I have found out though that if you pour boiling water over a tea bag, wait 30 seconds then dump the water out and brew a new cup that about 3/4 of the caffeine is removed. So at least I'll be able to surreptiously make myself a cup of tea at work without raising suspicions by suddenly switching to decaf.

PetiteRaleuse · 04/03/2012 14:52

TheDetective I had birthday trteats at the Sandcastle 20+ years ago - glad it is still there :)

I am having no symptoms other than tiredness so far at 5+2.

TheDetective · 04/03/2012 15:00

Good plan!!

I don't drink hot drinks, but I do drink coca cola which is caffine laden! It just made me feel a little queezy and I hate the caffine free stuff! Ah well, i'll just have to do without.

I remember from DS, the worst things ever to throw up were - in no particular order - hot tea (this was when I stopped drinking them!!) cola, bread or toast, cucumber, cabbage, chips (esp with vinegar on). For a long time I lived on sugar filled sweets, because these were bearable in the vomiting department. Tasted sweet when brought back up, and didn't leave that nasty after taste! Avoided all carbs, and anything that would come back in hot clumps. Just awful!!

I'm hoping it won't get that bad this time! I was vomiting 10-20 times a day and I carried a 'kit' with me - a non see through bottle to spit in (excess saliva caused me to vomit), paper bags, tissues, water and mints. I was so weak with it all, lost 2 stone, was sick until 22 weeks. It started at just 5+6. I was so silly last time, because I assumed it was normal, and I should just put up with it. I did go to the GP at 9 weeks and she gave me Avomine tablets for the sickness. I guess I didn't stress just how bad it was - my mum had encouraged me not to because we were due to go on holiday 2 days later and she didn't want the holiday cancelled! So I went abroad for 2 weeks and felt just awful the whole time! I remember the seatbelt sign being on in the 'plane, and as we came in to land I couldn't hold the sick in and I just vomited everywhere! I didn't realise it could have been relieved if only for a short while by being admitted to hospital.

I won't be so silly this time. I was 16, and clueless on how I should feel! I now know that that levels of vomiting isn't normal, and should have tried alternative medication!

And I won't be forcing myself to go to work either. It wouldn't be fair on my colleagues or my women to have me disappearing every hour and feeling just so awful for the rest of the time that I'm struggling to function.

DonnaDoon · 04/03/2012 17:21

hello can I join please ? Got 3 dcs already had 2x mc years ago estimated due date 12th november but no sickness yet so waiting anxiously and trying not to get too excited but its hard as we been trying for a long time.

LittleLolly · 04/03/2012 18:12

Hi and welcome PetiteRaleuse and DonnaDoon!!

TheDetective sounds like you had a hard time last time, hopefully it will be different this time!

Anyone looking at prams yet? I find myself browsing prams and baby clothes instead of my usual topshop.com haha!! I really like the iCandy cherry but hoping its not too expensive as I can't find prices anywhere online!

Belgrano · 04/03/2012 18:36

Hi ladies! Welcome to all the newbies. Just checking in. I have had a really busy weekend - visitors since Friday,, millions of kids in the house and had to cook dinner for everyone twice and make a big picnic for Saturday. So I'm lucky the sickness hasn't really started yet. I just feel vaguely queasy occasionally. Anyone else started to feel revolting yet? I am shattered by the end of the day and have sore boobs. And look fatter.
Hope you are all doing ok.
