Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Blame those hormones! I'm normally tough as nails :p And I have turned in to a soppy mess!!

I am currently sat here (hearing the noises from the NON SLEEPING CHILD!) thinking 'ooooh, this time 10 years ago I was in labour!'

Might go and have a little read of my notes - I have a full copy! Interesting to read, especially as I understand everything completely! The first year I got them I was a second year student midwife, and it was not til the 1st year after I qualified that I really understood the implications of everything that was contained in them!

TheDetective · 08/03/2012 21:42

I have a deep love for the old ! Grin

OMGBFP · 08/03/2012 21:45

I'm not anxious either. Am much more relaxed, wonder if age might have something to do with it? I just feel what will be will be and enjoy every day as much as you can :)

TheDetective · 08/03/2012 21:45

I have to say, it doesn't make pregnancy any easier EW! knowledge isn't always a good thing!

I have to warn, you can ask, but I can't answer everything, except with 'discuss with your midwife' as everyone has individual circumstances, and what is correct advice for one person, may be totally wrong for another. It would be unprofessional of me to claim other wise, or try to give advice.

If I feel its appropriate to answer - I will, if I can't, i'll say 'speak to your midwife'! :)

Evilwater · 08/03/2012 21:49

Pip, thanks for setting me straight.

Detective, can you pick who you want at your birth being a staff member?

blonderthanred · 08/03/2012 21:49

Yep we are definitely going to be picking your brains TD, especially us first-timers.

My local hospital has a birthing centre attached - specialising in water births etc. I'd quite like to do that but I must admit the fear of not having the option of intervention if it's needed is quite scary (the unit is a few miles from the main hospital). Mind you they probably wouldn't consider me for it due to my being more than a bit overweight now. Damn cake.

Evilwater · 08/03/2012 21:50

Detective, no problem!

Little9 · 08/03/2012 21:52

Hello all. Congratulations to everyone. Not many symptoms here still although boobs slightly sore when prodded (DH advises to stop prodding them then!! Hmm). Am very tired and slept from about 7pm last night right through to 7am this morning Blush. Felt really good this morning though! Finally getting over my cold, thankfully.

Am trying not to worry but having mmc last year has made me a bit sceptical that I'm actually pregnant again! May have to do another test at weekend to make sure. Have only told a couple of close friends so far as don't want to jinx it! Am thinking about having an early scan, but will see how things go. Daren't think about prams, nurseries, etc yet!

Oh well, better go to bed before I fall asleep on my laptop!

Night all.

TheDetective · 08/03/2012 21:57

EW, as I am having a home birth - I have booked with my local midwives, which is attached to my local unit - I work in another town, although ladies in this area do book there. There is no point booking where I work as I need to get to know the midwives who will be attending my home birth, and in the slim chance we have to be transferred during labour, it would be to the local unit.

I have actually specified being referred to a certain supervisor of midwives (as I am a higher risk pregnancy) as I knew of her through the ARM (association for radical midwives) and know her to be knowledgeable and supportive of women choosing against the 'norm'.

But generally, unless you ask someone to be on call 24/7 for you, you get whoever is on duty that day!

DesperateHousewife21 · 08/03/2012 22:04

great to see you here too!!

Dh is the opposite, I wanted sex but he did not :( his libido is low at the best of time though I had to practically force him to when we were ttc!

Evilwater · 08/03/2012 22:04

Thanks detective. I work in a huge hospital, that is local to the area but the next one is around 35 miles away. Being a first time mum I expect I have to go there and I'm a bit worried about weather people I know being evolved in my care.

TheDetective · 08/03/2012 22:06

Which department do you work in EW?

Evilwater · 08/03/2012 22:10

I work in cancer servies, which isn't very far from the maternity unit. Our juniour drs move around alot, and thier is only one doc i'd let look at me. Plus I've heard some things, from staff that work there, not very good ones.

TheDetective · 08/03/2012 22:16

I wouldn't imagine you would see anyone you know to be honest. The doctors in maternity tend to be either career, or GP trainee, and as far as I know, they generally do A&E, Paeds, Ob&gyn, Psych, General medicine, ENT, Palliative care, Elderly. Non of the ones I have spoken to have been in such a specialised area, but I could be wrong. It might vary area to area - in fact it probably does!

Evilwater · 08/03/2012 22:21

Oh well, I just hope I don't see anyone I know.
Anyway I'm off to bed. I can't wait to see the midwife tomorrow. Thanks detective.

EW

TheDetective · 08/03/2012 22:23

No problem Evil!

G'night! Off to see if someone is sleeping...!!

Iheartpasties · 08/03/2012 22:41

I am waiting to get some blood test results today, I saw the Gp on Wednesday and he said to do s blood test to see how far along I am. And at the time I was happy with that but since then I think I am keen to get an early scan just so I can relax a bit!! I swear I have already chnaged my mind on this 4 times. Oh dear! Poor DH he cannot keep up with me changing my mind. I am rediculously nervous for some reason, it's like I know I am pregnant but I just dont want anything to burst my bubble so now I am nervous about these blood test results! I just want them to show I am pregnant and by the correct amount!

I want to try to be calm and relaxed and enjoy every second of this pregnancy, so fingers crossed.

I have ended up telling quite a few friends, oops. But it has been good to bounce around ideas about the early scan with them. I am so keen to tell my mum but DH wants us to wait 3 weeks so I can tell her face to face.

I am so greatful for this little thread where we can all share!

My DD is almost 12 months, only a few days to go, and I am wondering how I am going to put her in her cot when I have a bump! The bump will be in the way!

Has anyone else bought any maternity clothing yet, I see thedetective has bought a new swim suit. I have bought a few bits on ebay, I just knew I would want comfy and roomy clothing for our flight to the UK!

pipsicles · 09/03/2012 05:10

IHP, I'm glad I'm not the only one with a small age gap - DS is nearly 13 months, but I hadn't actually thought about the cot thing Hmm I'd only been worrying about how to cuddle him with a bump in the way!

I am feeling horrible right now :( It's nearly 5am and I have been up for an hour an a half with D&V :( I've never had it like this before and assuming that this is a tummy bug as opposed to 'morning' sickness! On the one hand, I'm really glad I don't have work tomorrow, but on the other, am worried about looking after DS and passing it onto him :( I feel like there's another bout coming up too, so struggling to get back to sleep.

Little, my boobs are hardly sore at all (I think my right may have nearly caught up in size now too - I have been a bit wonky for the past few days!), but your tiredness is a definite symptom and even your cold could be, as our immune systems are weakened as our bodies put all their effort into these news little lives that we are creating! It's the same as those that are cold and probably explains my D&V too, so try to relax. Also, remember that telling people won't actually jinx it! Panicking and excessive worrying might though, so just enjoy the fact that you're not sick and the knowledge that regardless of what may or may not happen, you are doing something amazing without even needing to think about it! I will never fail to be amazed by the miracle that is pregnancy, or the fact that we can do it without eyes shut, even if we've never done it before!

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/03/2012 07:18

Did another eBay test this morning and it was very very faint still. Now I'm worried and doubting myself.
I'm going to wait til mon to do another one. I'm sure I read the result in the right time and its not an evap line.

Apart from cramps and twinges and 'pulling' I don't feel preg Confused

TitsalinaBumSquash · 09/03/2012 07:44

Gosh this thread moves quickly!

I am off down the drs at 8.40 for the necessaries.
I haven't done another test yet, I only have a batch of internet cheapies that appear to not be great, since I get bfp on cb and bfn on them, from the same sample!
I might buy a tesco one or something for peace of mind.
I feel strangely calm though. Which is weird, I have had 8 early mcs and usually I am a compulsive knicker checker!

Iheartpasties · 09/03/2012 08:14

I had my blood test results and they proved I'm pregnant, about 5 weeks so it's really real now!!

OMGBFP · 09/03/2012 08:20

Morning peoples :)

Good luck for all those with appts today x I'll be calling a bit later for my booking in, don't want to tie the lines up just now we have a stupid free for all phone system you can't book in advance for a GP just on the day and it's first come first served (and on an 0845 number which I am sure I read somewhere surgeries were barred from having due to expense for people with mobiles?!)

DH21 - really try to not worry i know know know it's easier said than done, but what will be will be and no amount of whipping yourself up into worrydom will change it, so enjoy each day :) Thanks I don't feel much pregnant either if it helps!

In bed in the early hours I felt a sensation like an elastic band twanging me 3 or 4 times deep inside, implantation maybe? not sure when that happens, am 5+1?

DesperateHousewife21 · 09/03/2012 08:29

Implantation happens around 10dpo, I think if I've read things right than a BFP won't show up on a test til implantation happens as that's when the hcg hormone starts being produced.

omgbfp thanks I know I shouldn't worry but I just want a definite sign, I'm going to wait til next week to do the digi test so hopefully it'll actually say the word pregnant and I might be able to rest a bit easier then!

Tiago · 09/03/2012 08:40

DH21 I do recommend using a digi as it is easier not to have to interpret lines - but remember, a line is a line is a line. No matter how faint, it cannot appear unless you are PG.

OMGBFP · 09/03/2012 08:45

Must have been something else then Confused

tiago I agree with you. Dh21, can you take a pic of your tests?
