the merino ones are big so that you get 2 years use out of them, which IMO justifies the price. No faffing with 0-3 3-6 6-12 etc. When they are little, you just fold the end of the bag underneath them, and there are poppers under the arm to keep it snug on them, as they get bigger/chunkier you don't use the poppers...

I was also.under midwife then too biscuits!!@ think as I was so wiped out with the tear/ anaemia combo. Maybe you will give birth to two!!!! And maybe, maybe, one day, I'll have an evening of peace....

Loopyhasanotherbean · 15/02/2012 10:17

(the ones we have are the go go bags, baby ones, newborn-2)

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 10:20

Well that was what I wondered Musical. When I first heard about sleeping bags I thought they sounded like an expensive gimmick, but when I actually looked at them I saw that they help reduce risks etc and they are so much more practical I found so I was thoroughly converted.

We never had the ones with sleeves - id never even heard of them, but Scarlet am I right in thinking you have an oldish cold house? Or have I got you confused with someone else who said that? Our house is pretty warm so I think we'd be ok without sleeves etc? Never looked at the merino ones (and am a bit scared to in case I want to buy them - can't really afford anything new ever again after the tyre debacle of the weekend which will now cost us £200 to get a spare wheel on top of the £140 new tyre and £80 of taxi costs SadSad).

And I've found out that we have to cough up the £250 excess on dh's co car which someone ran into the back of and then they will reimburse him £150 when they get round to it, and then he gets the £100 back if they're able to recover it from the other insurance co (which they better blardy had!)

pommedechocolat · 15/02/2012 10:39

Argh biscuits what a pain! Everything happens at once. Here we have childhood plagues in abundance as have just realised dd has nits!! Guess that's my scalp is itchy too - what a rubbish GP I saw on Monday!

ARGH for everyone and brooking for calm and serenity being restored before and after birth!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 11:27

he he - I am currently trying to entertain myself on the computer for as long as possible - I've just been sorting out some bills etc and DS is just playing so nicely on the floor behind me. He's playing some kind of game that has a continuous narrative, told like an actual story, and seems to involve Penny and Elvis from Fireman Sam (played by a T-rex and a Diplodocus) using Scoop and various other vehicles to do I'm not quite sure what. Very entertaining nonetheless and I daren't move away from the computer in case I break the spell as I could almost guarantee that although I have no involvement in the game at all (in fact when I asked a question about it I got 'I wasn't talking to you Mummy' Hmm) as soon as I leave the room he'll be trailing me again!

musicalmrs · 15/02/2012 11:36

I'm afraid the Merino ones are out Loopy, as - don't know why I didn't think of it before - Merino contains lanolin, which I'm allergic to :( Don't want to be putting the LO in it when they're tiny in case they have my allergies!

Biscuits, that sounds so sweet! :) Love his cast. And what a shame that you have to entertain yourself and can't possibly leave the room to do anything like housework or tidying.. Grin

Sorry to hear about the huge amount of money you have to shell out :( If it's any consolation, we're in a similar situation - not with excesses, but with having to pay conveyancing fees, survey fees etc! £800 so far I think... poor bank account is taking a beating. Not to mention the shocking amount of fees involved in buying a house anyway. Shock Very glad we bought the pricey bits for this LO (car seat, cot, buggy) early and that it's just bits and pieces to go, or I'd be stressing..!

Pomme, what a rubbish GP! You'd have thought that if a mum comes in with an itchy scalp, nits would definitely be on the list of things to check!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 11:50

Oh gosh Musical I hated the way I was constantly shelling out money every time we've bought a house - It's so frustrating. You kind of forget about that when you're buying the actual house because of the mortgage - but the 'odds and ends' and fees left right and centre are hideous! £500 here and there - you stop even blinking at just a mere few hundred pounds!

And then after the move I've always wondered whether we should just have our salaries paid directly to B&Q (not that I have a salary anymore!). No matter how little you think you want to do to a place you always need bits here and stuff there....

I've just clocked as well that the house insurance is going out this month too all in one lump - bleh!

I think I'll be out busking in the village this afternoon Hmm

jaggythistle · 15/02/2012 12:04

Hi all.

Also sleeping bag fans here. I tried Mothercare, Ikea and Grobag ones and the grobag have lasted the best and were nicest to use, even though a bit more expensive. The zip went on one Ikea one eventually I think. If you hunt about you can get 'last season's' Grobag designs cheaper - around £20 each or less maybe (these were 18m-3year ones I bought last year so wee ones might be less).

DS was in them till he went into his new bed at Christmas. Towards winter we used a lightweight one for nap time too which he seemed to like.

Must do work, mabe back later........

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 15/02/2012 12:06

Blimey, how much are those merino sleeping bags! I have gro bags, I bought some randomly as they were on offer and never looked back! They wash and dry quickly and Dd still loves hers now. They still look great too even though she was in them for a long time being such a slow grower. I always found them reduced so was inexpensive and I have found the 2.5 tog to be fine all year round, just vary the layers the baby wears and in the summer might be just a nappy they wear anyway.

The bills and expenditure do suddenly hit you all at once, I hope everyone manages ok, it is such a pain!

I went to largest Mothercare in our area yesterday and bought myself some maternity/nursing pjs and wow they are so comfy! Why did I not discover this sooner than at the end of my 2nd pregnancy?! Oh and they were half price too so got two sets bonus! Dh is picking up some miniature toiletries today and some socks with the rubber grippy things on and I should be all ready in my hosp bag, just need to pick some snacks at some point.

Nice to hear about all the valentines treats, we don't usually do it maybe just a nice dinner but DH surprised me with chocolate croissants, a rose and a cup of tea for breakfast and some chocolates which was so lovely! 20th feb is also our 6 month anniversary so convenient to get a bit romantic this week.

I have gone off most food recently, but I have been having cravings for beef! Ooh I could eat it all day everyday!

Hope everyone is well? :)

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 12:10

We never had the 18m-3 yr ones - after DS was about 15-18 mths we went for a cot duvet and a little cot pillow to start getting him used to the idea before he went into a bed (at about 2)

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 15/02/2012 12:11

House buying sounds like my wedding, just tack an extra 0 onto the figure you think it would cost!

Oh and congrats on another pink bean!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 12:13

I also love my maternity PJs Purple. I did struggle to find any though that didn't seem to come with a vest top. My upper body is not, ahem, cut out for sleeping in vest tops, and I ended up with some from JMB. They are super comfy though (even though i had to pay full price for them). I did have some last time round but they were all summer ish ones and I do like my nice warm PJs in the winter!

However, I'm finding that they already barely meet in the middle - as in the trousers come up to my belly button and the top just about still reaches that far down!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 15/02/2012 12:34

The pjs I have include a crop bra with drop cups, which actually gently support my big boobs! Then there is a v neck type top that goes on top of this, nice and long. I also tried this which was comfy and long, but bought 2 sets of pjs instead it would roll up small for hosp bag too :)

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 12:45

Oh that sounds like a good idea Purple.

Mine are just normal long sleeved checky button up numbers with a maternity waistband and more spacious top. But last time I never really got on with specific nursing tops, because may openings were too small for my mega boobs Blush so at night is just unbutton my PJs, which was fine because obv it was at night! And in the day / out I just had to hoike clothes up above boob and hope DS would cover everything! Not surprisingly I often preferred to feed somewhere private if I could find it!

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 12:46

the openings, not may - what were you thinking autocorrect? Hmm

PopcornMouse · 15/02/2012 13:07

I like Finnian dream (and DH and I went to college with a guy called Baz, he was lovely) :)
I have older twin brothers and they never left me out, though the age difference is bigger admittedly :)

Sorry to hear about the house musical I hope they find something new soon.

Sounds like you had an amazing Valentines evening scream ! Was the pasta as good as you remembered?

?as sexy as a space hopper? :o :o Too DH didn't get me anything either ? but I'm sure you'll be back in your sexy undies next year :)

Congratulations Ninja ! I'm so pleased for you!

:o Elvis the diplodocus Biscuits !

I confess I haven't read all 10 pages of chat Shock Blush but I picked up where I posted from :)
I'm 6+2 today, feeling very nauseous but haven't been sick, does that mean I'll escape proper morning sickness?! Had my blood test this morning too, results in a week.
I'm having mega stressed-out dreams which involve my mother, who I love to bits but I'm dreading telling I'm pg as they live abroad and we have no practical family support nearby (we have family nearby, but none that will be useful in the babysitting sense iykwim, gosh that sounds very entitled and bitchy Blush ) so mum will worry and probably feel very guilty because she was around for my sister and her kids but won't be for me Confused I think I am mainly stressing that she will rain on my happy preggo parade, when I am perfectly capable of worrying enough for both of us thankyouverymuch :o

Wants3 · 15/02/2012 13:09

I am still in my normal pjs but they don't meet in the middle any more! I am planning to get a button down front nightie to labour in so it will be easy to have him skin to skin straightaway. I was going to pack my yoga pants and a loose tshirt to come home in so I don't think I will bother investing in maternity pjs. The weather here is very spring like today. I was out walking in just a fairly thin shirt this morning so I am hoping I will start to need less clothes soon and just make do with the tops I already have.

NinjaChipmunk · 15/02/2012 14:12

popcorn I only had the odd morning of feeling a bit nauseous but was never actually sick so you might escape it too? I wasn't at all sick withds either. I don't have any nearby family any more either since my folks moved last year. If we need evening babysitters then some of the girls at ds's nursery do it and you can always join a babysitting circle/ bribe a friend. When do you plan on telling your mum?
I have just worked out I have 39 working days left! (that seems very little but I only work 3 days a week so its actually about 13 weeks). Better start writing up some notes for people then I suppose....Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 14:18

I was the same as Ninja on the MS front.

With both DS and this one I had nausea. Ginger biscuits seemed to work last time but did nothing this time. This time it was all about eating walkers crisps - even in the middle of the night sometimes Blush.

But I was lucky to not actually be sick.

Brooking that you avoid it Popcorn but feel free to select a glittery vom bucket just in case. There are lots available at the moment Smile

PopcornMouse · 15/02/2012 14:20

That's a great idea ninja I hadn't thought of nursery workers (or heard of babysitting circles!)

I'll tell her once I have my scan - it took us almost a year to get pg so tbh if I miscarried, I don't think I could face another year surrounded by the expectation of imminent announcements iykwim? We get harassed about kids enough as it is, with people not even knowing we're ttc! :o

39 working days, that's fab! Midwife appointment booked for March 14, squee! :)

PopcornMouse · 15/02/2012 14:20

xpost! Thanks biscuits I'm hoping so too, it's looking positive :o

Biscuitsandtea · 15/02/2012 14:27

Oh yes Popcorn, agree with what Ninja said about babysitters. I know that some of our nursery staff do babysitting for some of the mums. And a few of my NCT friends have done babysitting for each other. We're remarkably fortunate to have both sets of parents within babysitting distance so haven't had to outsource it yet!

NinjaChipmunk · 15/02/2012 15:19

popcorn we are on the edge of london and the room supervisor at ds's nursery (who has know him the entire time he's been there) charges £8 p/h and is fully trained and crb checked too. Plus my nct group all still get on well and we're happy to offer our services to each other. I think if you actually join the nct (which I never did even though we did their antenatal course) they have local babysitting groups?
I get what you mean about it taking so long you don't want to jinx it with telling people but you are a no brooker so you will be fine Smile Yay for your midwfe appointment! Just before mothers day too!

scarletfingernail · 15/02/2012 15:41

Are any of you with toddlers thinking of getting a buggy board? It's not the worth the expense of a double pushchair for us, but DS does still need a ride on longer walks. I was looking at the Lascal ones and wondered if any of you knew anything about them?

No actual MS here either Popcorn. I had quite severe nausea at times which lasted on and off until about 20 weeks, but no actual puking. I was exactly the same when pg with DS. Fingers crossed that you won't have it either, or at least if you do it's not too bad.

wants/Biscuits We have people working on the house on and off for the nex t3 weeks or so. DH is also doing as much as he can on it, he's already used a lot of his holiday and has a bit more left to take (his runs April-April). It probably won't all be completely finished in time for the baby, but the plan is that the major and messy stuff will be and we'll hopefully just be left with a bit of painting. I go from thinking that once it's done, the house will be more or less exactly as we'd planned it 5 years ago and at last everything will be done and we can enjoy living in it. To feeling complete despair and frustration that it's all happening when I could do with having a break and wishing we'd just got on with it years ago. The benefit of hindsight eh?

Biscuits you're right our house is old and cold, hence us getting on so well the the sleeping bags with sleeves.
