1,000 posts into the very popular September 2012 thread, here's a new one, for knicker checking, boob prodding, toilet rushing, oh and eating the entire contents of the fridge or McDonalds

Here's to our tiny beans and all the lovely ladies lost along the way.

Full steam ahead to booking in and positive scans aplenty.

i think i have the slight memory advantage that DS is only just turned 15 months, so it's all fairly recent in our minds!

madmonkeys the sleeping bags we use can even be used on premature babies, and this time round we will put DC2 into them straight away, i just wish we'd bought them for when DS was born, as swaddling didn't work with him either, and he was very lively from day 1 and never managed to keep him under the covers for long, and at 6 weeks we discovered these bags. I know they are pricy, but we are still using them with DS now, and don't need sheets, duvets, blankets, since 6 weeks he has used exactly the same bags and i think we will manage to use them till he turns 2, even though he is 75th centile for height. I considered cheaper ones, but when you work out how many you would need for each age and for the different togs for the different seasons, to have wash, and wear, and spares, for us it made more sense to buy just 4 of the merino ones. Especially as DS has reflux and quite often we would end up with 3 covered in sick, and one for him to wear!

our scan is a week tomorrow, and really can't wait, just hope everything is ok in there, even though we've done it before, doesn't stop the worrying!

lurkingmurking · 13/02/2012 15:13

My DS was addicted to swaddling! Sleeping bags are fab too and the merino ones are beautiful

sasslejaney84 · 13/02/2012 15:51

My DD had a sleeping bag from a year old and she loved it! I've already put them on my clothes list and the gift lists for my family (a few of them have already asked what to get and ive told them to hold off for a while!)

Had my 1st home visit from the MW today and only 15 days to my scan, does anyone know how to apply for milk tokens?? I know I'm entitled to them I just don't know how to!! Any help would be appriciated!

MissCoffeeNWine · 13/02/2012 16:27

All we had for DD when she was born was a moses basket, blankets and some second hand clothes and nappies. That'd bring most people out in a cold sweat I imagine. Grin She was/is fine.

All I'd get ready for a new baby would be some newborn sleepsuits (already have a stack of whites and brights) some muslin squares, prefolds and wraps (spills from both ends) a moses basket or crib with some bedding, a car seat (I want birth-4 this time so it stays in the car) and a wrap sling. So all that's required really is a load of laundry, LOL.

Big things, DD got a bouncy chair given at a few days by proud grandparents, a car seat at about 2 weeks (£60) soft baby gym thing from the supermarket at about 3 months old (£15), IKEA cot at 5 months (£40) ebay highchair at 6 months (£34) and we never did get a pushchair. All the toys that hung on the baby gym came off and she played with them a fair bit, she had a couple of cot toys later on but mainly played with household things in a treasure basket until she got an influx of toys on her first birthday.

She costs a LOT more now Hmm

Well the scan wasn't good news - no heartbeat and measuring around 6 weeks. Sad

I have requested a repeat scan next Friday and my hcg levels to be checked again for comparison. But I'm not pinning my hopes on this. I am sad, but not utterly devastated like I was last time. I think I accepted it was lost on Friday, but I'm sure I'll grieve some more yet.

I would like to think there could be a change by next week, but I won't get my hopes up.

MadMonkeys · 13/02/2012 17:33

Oh Floydie, I'm so sorry.

sasslejaney84 · 13/02/2012 17:44

Oh floydie I'm so sorry for you hun!

Macaroons · 13/02/2012 17:58

Oh no floydie fingers crossed for your little bean!

I'm feeling some subtle stomach pain all afternoon and feel kinda wet down there (sorry if tmi) but fortunately no bleeding. I hope there's nothing to worry about.Confused

The title of this thread really represents me!

MissCoffeeNWine · 13/02/2012 18:00

Loopyhasanotherbean · 13/02/2012 20:17

so sorry floydie i hope your other half can get home soon to give you a hug. Did they explain why your hcg levels were so high? Is there any chance whatsoever that your dates are wrong?

Bakeroo · 13/02/2012 23:34

Floydie I am so sorry to hear that. Thinking of you....x

Loup23 · 14/02/2012 10:38

Checking in after a mini-break skiing Hmm

Floydie so sorry to hear your news, I hope you are getting lots of tlc, did they explain why your dr thought you were 12+ weeks?

Also sorry to read posts from Doritha and elthered, FX that your next pgs go well and you are back on a stats list soon.

Thanks to all the ladies who posted re the essentials, I have no idea what we need and really don't want to go overboard.....

Having booked a private scan for 12 weeks on 20th I got back from our break to find that my NT and dating scan is today! Pretty quick work as I only had my booking in last Monday and was scared I wouldnt get the NT scan in before 13+6 weeks. I'm 11+3 today so will head off to the hopsital at lunchtime and pray for good news. Bakeroo and ? sorry can't remember the other.... I will still have the private scan on the 20th ad I would lose the money now anyway so will be virtual handholding for that!

Lastly, Rusulka your post was making me lol, with the dog sitting stance and the nipples poking out a foot!

Hope everyone is well and good luck for all forthcoming scans x

Oh Floydie that is just rubbish - what a rollercoaster for you Sad Look after yourself.

Loup it was me also having scan on 20th Smile best of luck with yours today!

Loup23 · 14/02/2012 11:48

Ah poppyjen sorry for the memory loss! Good luck for 20th then, I will be with you and Bakeroo in virtual hand holding!

Firsttime maybe see your GP, the MW told me that lots of ladies get headaches in the first trimester and taking paracetomol was fine (but not ibuprofen). Maybe it's best to check though?

I'd been feeling so much better during our break away and now feel horribly sick again today Shock

Hotcupofteaplease · 14/02/2012 13:23

Floydie I am so sorry to hear your news... how confusing that your HCG levels are so high Sad

Well, I also went for my 12 week scan yesterday; saw the little person and its' heartbeat which was a huge relief. However, the midwife at the booking in appt had dated me 13 weeks, I said I was more like 11 weeks (long cycles). Midwife yesterday dated me as 10+1 with an EDD of 10.09.12.
However, this meant that I was too early for the NT scan... can I book in for this at a later date then? Oh no, this trust has a 'one chance' policy whereby if we can't read it first time around, you won't get another go.
So ladies, if you think your midwife is dating you too early and there is a possibility that your scan may be a tiny bit too early, beware that your trust may operate the same policy and you may not get your NT scan at all Angry

Good luck today Loup23

MissCoffeeNWine · 14/02/2012 13:41

Hotcupofteaplease congratulations on seeing your little person but I have to say that's spectacularly rubbish and I would kick up a stink. Although I do have a sneaky feeling that my trust likes to book NT scans late for that reason - got a feeling that if I'd declined it I'd have a date round 11-12 weeks for a general non time restricted dating scan, but they book those that want it a little later to be sure, last time I had it at 13+1 and this time it's 13+5 Hmm Which is a very, very long time to wait and I'm going pretty crazy.

Good luck for all other scans today, I'm nearly 10 weeks with a month to go until mine :(

york67 · 14/02/2012 14:10

So sorry floydie
So many people with scan dates. Good luck to all. I will probably have over a month to wait.
Feeling pretty crap here too. Tired and sicky/hearburny feeling.
Really hope all this discomfort is not for nothing.

quitcomplaining · 14/02/2012 15:46

I'm very sorry floydie Sad

I dont have my 12 week scan date yet. I am with a different trust this time. With my dd I was given a number and told to ring the ultra sound unit and book my own scan. Which was great. However this trust seems to do an early booking appointment at 6-8 weeks then the midwife arranges your scan and rings you with that date. Bizarre and not very helpful as I work 3 days per week. Anyway...

I was in mothercare this morning getting dd feet measured at clarkes (again!) and I had a nosy at the prams. Then it dawned on me. I don't have a clue if I need a double or not! Dd will be 2 years and 2 months when baby due. Does anyone else have similar age gaps? What are you planning to do?

rightontime · 14/02/2012 16:00

Sorry to hear your news Floydie Sad

My sister went for her 12 week scan at what should have been bang on 12weeks but was dated at less than that due to long cycles (putting her due date 1 day before mine on 31st Aug) but she has been offered another appointment for the NT scan to be done. I guess it does just depend on the location. I must admit if I was particularly worried (which I am about the blood test but not due to DS) I would kick up a big fuss and insist that they gave me another date.

Ellefabulosa · 14/02/2012 16:45

Oh god - for the first time in this and my previous pregnancy I have felt so awful and sick all day. Everytime I stood up at work I thought I was going to throw up (and did throw up in the train car park). Any chance it's not morning sickness? When does this stop?!! I am also feeling very weepy at literally anything, even stuff that's not sad... As my husband says I'm not really a crying type. I think this must be a boy as it is so different to my pregnancy with my daughter.

I'm so tired - It's not going to be much of a valentines day!

I don't think I will buy a double buggy - my daughter will be 21 months when all being well this one arrives. She hates going in her buggy and always did - she mostly walks or boards and the next one will probably be in a sling like her so probably no point in wasting money.

MadMonkeys · 14/02/2012 17:47

We're not bothering with a double buggy. DD will be 2yo 8mo, so she's a bit older. She can walk or go on a buggy board, and the new LO can go in a sling, so plenty of options. Just think of the car you'd need to fit in a double buggy...

Feel like i'm being a bit of a rubbish mom to DD at the mo - it's peppa pig for an hour or so in the afternoon so I can have a bit of a rest. And I don't think I'm being particularly imaginative when playing with her. I'm pooped. How are you others with children already doing?
