I was advised that if I went into labour before my booked CS, then to call the hospital immediately and explain that my waters had gone/cx started and that I had a section booked in for 9 March. They would then ask if I wanted to have a trial of labour, and I would say no very firmly. I would then go straight into hospital and they would proceed straight to CS. The only reason not to do this would be if I arrived at the hospital at 8+cm and there wouldn't actually be time to get the spinal in and so on before I was at the pushing stage. To be fair, if I got that far then I might just go for it, but I hope the situation doesn't arise!

OBEM last night was petrifying. I was scared of forceps anyway and watching that didn't help. Still, after one CS I'm not likely to ever have another VB - with my history it was a choice of induction at 38 weeks or CS, so having chosen CS this time, next time my choice will be limited to CS or VB only if I go into labour spontaneously before 38 weeks, because they won't allow you to do VBAC if you're induced. But honestly, if that poor woman had refused the forceps and proceeded straight to CS it would have been so much less traumatic! I couldn't help wondering what sort of condition she was left in afterwards. Sad

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/02/2012 15:54

I would wiggle for a Mars bar too! Biscuits, don't feel shy at all - reassurance is golden. You know what the risks are and so do they, so they will never make you feel bad about it. Also wishing you lots of movements.

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 09/02/2012 15:58

Too your booked in for my due date! Obviously none of you need to be concerned about labouring before CS as it just isn't going to happen! Wink

Biscuits you are definitely not making a fuss!

OBEM was scary, the look on the HCPs faces and clock watching! But how amazing that they got the baby out and she was a real beauty. Hopefully the Mum will have counselling offered to her and they said they wanted another baby so hopefully they are ok.

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 15:59

Thank you for the wiggly thoughts Smile

Have felt a couple of wiggles but nothing too much so far. Just had to go and get DS though and had some serious lower back pain while walking. We're now having a snuggle on the soda watching CBeebies so we'll see what happens between now and 5.

Am hoping if I do have to go in, my parents can come and look after DS as I'm not sure how good he'd be at the hospital Confused and DH is out tonight but it's a work thing with a client so would rather not make him cancel unless I have to.

pomme the pains were at the top of my bump rather than my cervix - but it's exciting that your body is raring up to go!!! Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 16:03

Oh and those clips look great. I had some similar things but just Velcro on and they weren't that good. I used to use them for putting extra shopping bags on, but they weren't overly reliable.

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 16:05

Cross post with Too - glad they have it all planned out for your CS.and as you say I'd you go in at the first sign of labour you'd be unlikely to get to 8cm before you get to the hospital. How far is it to the hospital for you?

When do you start your ML?

PopcornMouse · 09/02/2012 16:30

You aren't making a fuss over nothing biscuits it's better to be safe than sorry as they say. I'm brooking for lots of wriggles over the next half hour :)

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 16:39

Link to the bf friendly dress website

4 wriggles in 90 mins.

Gonna get some tea down DS in case we're having a hospital trip.....

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 17:21

No hospital trip required - I'd got to 6 kicks before I called (although that included my weird things at the supermarket, but that with the 4 in the last 2 hours ticks the 10 in 12 hours box.

I'm just going to keep a close eye on it. They feel a bit 'lighter' but maybe the baby has just moved. I'm not sure where the feet are now but they're not at the top like they were because that's where I'm getting this big hard lump like a head or bottom. But on that basis it must have moved so the kicks could I suppose reasonably be less pokey?

Now to decide if I bother bathing DS tonight or leave it for DH tomorrow? Hmm......

scarletfingernail · 09/02/2012 17:24

4 wriggles in 90 minutes isn't bad going is it Biscuits? Probably best to get checked out anyway though, it's worth it just to stop the worry.

Purple I think I'm going to take DS to see our GP tomorrow. We saw our GP on Tuesday who told us to take him to A&E because of his breathing. When we went to A&E they said it was definitely viral, but they'd write to the GP to get him to do an X-ray referral. Politics and paperwork eh? We'll just trudge backwards and forwards from one to the other no problem!

The Dr in A&E said he might be too little still for asthma testing, but an X ray might be a good place to start. He's not showing any sign of getting better so I'm going to have to take him back anyway. Oh and I nipped out with him earlier (first time in 3 days) and typically it was when the horrible Nurofen diarrhoea decided to put in an appearance. Luckily I was on a retail park with a Mothercare, cue mad dash round the shop buying new trousers, pull ups and a pack of wipes [gross] Think it's the first time since his birth I've actually left the house without a pack of wipes. That'll teach me!

Oooh 3 babies in the next few weeks, this thread's going to be so exciting.

Lovely bump pic pomme Smile

Crossed post Biscuits well done your little crumb. It knew you needed some reassurance so gave you some. Smile

OP posts:
Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 17:42

Oh how unfortunate to have the poos put an appearance in when you're out Sad. But at least it was fixable at Mothercare! still a bit bleurgh though after the past few days that you've already been through Sad

I recall DS once being kind enough to do a total leaky nappy incident while I was in Sainsburys. I don't know ^why* I was out without a change of clothes (he was only small) but we'd also managed to run out of nappies and wipes at the same time - could have happened in a much worse place!

Hope they can they can get this x-ray sorted out soon. How silly that they have to write to the GP to refer you back to the hospital. Do they need to do it while he still has the cold or can you 'spot' asthma without a old or whatever (totally clueless here!) I do hope it's nothing. Does asthma run in the family?

Good luck at the GP tomorrow too - hope they can offer some help of some sort xx

scarletfingernail · 09/02/2012 17:50

Not sure Biscuits I suppose that would be the most logical reason to have not done the x-ray on Tuesday. Maybe the virus would "mask" any asthma Confused I trust everyone who's looked at him, it's just I suppose we've been lucky in that he's never been as ill as this before so I'm completely clueless.

Thanks for the train anger on my behalf! C2C (the network I travel with) have no first class sadly, so myself and bump can't hide there! I have been very good at asking for seats recently - I've only ever been offered one once! This morning though, the carriage was already packed when I got on, and path to the priority seats was blocked by about 5/6 people- whom ignored me when I said "Excuse me" and tried to get past (probably as they had nowhere to go). Decided it wasn't worth the hassle and just sat down where I was. Popcorn, the route to any non-priority seats was equally as hassle-tastic. scarlet, I think my coat hides my bump quite well - so people may not notice I'm pregnant.. then again, I wear my "Baby on board" badge whenever I'm commuting, so there's no excuse really!

I'll just have to be even more pushy I think! My day did improve though - some brilliant lessons, a spot of shopping, and now waiting for my rehearsal at the South Bank. Thankfully DH is giving me a lift home! Although I'm still enjoying working, I'm really fed up with commuting- roll on maternity leave (seven and a bit weeks to go!).

Ninja, I've been looking at that baby blanket! I've found a couple of other patterns on Ravelry too. However, went to my local Hobbycraft and was unimpressed by the wool selection, so instead found some types we liked, and will do some online shopping over the next week (half term, when I'm supposed to work from home but will in fact use up all my time shopping for baby things and kitchens!) and hopefully pick some colours!

Biscuits, glad you got to the right number of wiggles/movements. It sounds as you say like LO has moved somewhere - maybe it's whacking either your back or your placenta? Doing something awkward to your back might explain the back pains? Definitely worth getting checked out anyway if you're still worried - regardless of hitting any particular number of kicks. I know I go into a complete panic when I haven't felt anything for a while...

Scarlet, sorry DS is showing no signs of getting better. The X ray sounds like a good start - but what a faff having to take him back to the GP in order to get it. At least the diarrhoea incident happened somewhere where you could easily get supplies I suppose.

Pomme, lovely bump!

Very excited about the prospect of lots of imminent babies on this thread! :)

Wants3 · 09/02/2012 18:09

Hi all, biscuits DS doesn't seem to worried about braces ATM as he has been told that he won't need extractions or any injections when he has them fitted.
musical possibly your constant cold is pregnancy rhinitis where your nasal passages swell up making you feel stuffy like a cold?
Baby quieter again today, had movements but not as strong so maybe he has moved around and I am not feeling them so much. I will have a quiet evening and monitor. I need chocolate!:)

DreamingOfPeace · 09/02/2012 18:18

Too I was practically shouting 'no go straight to section!!' at the tv last night- terrible... I would have begged for CS not forceps.

Had a great scan and appointment today. Boys really good weights- 3lb 4oz each so I'm delighted with that (and officially carrying as much weight as at term with dd)!! Plus sonographer actually took the time to show us the babies and go through exactly where each is, show me their faces etc- only ever had measurements and raced out before. The consultant i want to see spotted us in the waiting room n even tho she was on gynae clinic not ante natal she saw us anyway. Agreed no induction so ELCS 4th April. I'll be 37+6. If i go into labour before that, and she says there's a good chance of that, she thinks before 35 weeks or 35-36 weeks I should try and go for it if i can get my head round it as it is much better for earlier babies to have a vb, she says after that can see how i feel about it but there will definitely be a consultant in the building if not the room- New policy in writing from 1 month ago as part of the necessary maternity improvements the trust must make. There's one consultant with a shit reputation I really don't want under to have them though, but all luck of the draw if i do go into labour earlier. Which I'm not. End of. 37+6 it is. Right?! So 7 weeks 5 days to go, eeeek!!!

Phone bout to run out of battery so have to try the dress links later but excited to see them!!

DreamingOfPeace · 09/02/2012 18:23

Oh and policy for twin vb at my hospital is epidural, so therefore increased chance of instrumental delivery and episiotomy/ tearing so hence another reason I'm NOT going into labour before 4th April :-)

Great bump pomme!!!

Glad ds not too stressed about braces wants . Maybe teenage boys take it better than girls?! I remember the worries of a friend st high school...

musicalmrs · 09/02/2012 18:25

It could be that Wants! I also have what varies between a constantly running and blocked nose several times a day... not sure if pregnancy rhinitis could cause that too, or if that is just a cold!

Hurrah for a great scan Dream - and what a lovely sonographer! 4th April - eek, that's quite close! Wonderful news that there will be a consultant in the building if not room no matter what happens - sounds like your PCT are really trying to get their act together (as they have to do, I suppose). What great weights your two boys are now too :)

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/02/2012 18:26

Biscuits, could your bean have gone breech? If you have a solid lump at the top and the wriggles are lower down, then perhaps that's why. I thought it was 10 movements in an hour Blush, not in 12!

Musical, men people can be surprisingly unobservant, especially with a winter coat obscuring the bump a bit. Today a colleague said 'I didn't know you were pg!'. I spent 2 hours in a meeting with him 2 weeks ago, at 31 weeks, no coat on, and yet he still managed to miss the bump. Confused

Scarlet, hope DS starts feeling better soon and that you get the referral to X ray quickly.

Purple, maybe you'll be first! Well, after Pomme, probably.

Pomme, I get random shooting pains in my cervix too. I find it odd that my body is gearing up for labour when I have no intention of actually labouring!

My hospital is about 35-40 minutes drive, more if it's rush hour. Quite honestly, though, it is the potential of being in labour for hours and having plenty of time to panic about Bean that worries me. So if I was to be told right, you're 8 cm and you're going to have to do this naturally then I wouldn't be too upset (unless it then went pear-shaped like on OBEM!). Maternity leave starts on 2 March - only 3 weeks and 1 day of work left!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 09/02/2012 18:38

Dream, yay for excellent weights! And a nice sonographer who took the time to show you them properly. So, all systems go for 4 April, hurray! That's my mum's birthday (and my first boyfriend's, for that matter). I'm sure they can't make you have an epidural if you refuse to consent. Besides, it won't be necessary because they will stay put until 4 April.

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 18:41

Ah ok that makes a lot of sense Too I guess if you were already in the thick of it, you'd be so close to the end. I can totally understand that.

Dream glad you had a good appt and those boys are getting to be a really good weight. So they're still pretty equal. Where does that put them on the centiles - have I imagined it or did you say before that they were each on the 50th centile for a singleton?

I guess that makes sense about the early birth and VB thing? But the closer you get to your section date the more likely they might be to go CS?

If you did go into labour at 35-36 weeks, that would be before my due date so you could have your boys first! Although I'll be freaking out about how big mine will be if I get to the due date! I'm going to ask at the next scan if they can guess how big it is then as that'll be 35 weeks. How do they guess the weights?

Wish the next scan was sooner though, I'd love to know if it has gone breech (that had crossed my mind too Too). I wonder if that will make the consultant think about a VB for me? I have no idea whether they'd even consider a CS for me?

scarletfingernail · 09/02/2012 18:43

That sounds like an excellent scan dream. I bet it all seems so much more real you have a definite date of when they will be here at the latest. I'm brooking you can hold out until then. Their weight sounds fantastic for twins at 30 weeks.

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 09/02/2012 18:50

Thanks all, they're both still a bit above 50th centile for singletons... I wouldn't refuse an epidural I don't think in case in went tits up for twin two as that'd slow down helping him. Hmm. That's why they want you to have one. Ah crap, think phone actually turning off now..

DreamingOfPeace · 09/02/2012 19:03

Right , phone plugged in but must move onto bathtime. biscuits after a third degree tear I've had a friend too who pleaded trauma and fear of second difficult birth even if unlikely according to them. She had ELCS too. Hope that baby of yours gets wriggling. I totally don't get not wriggling for a mars bar?! Though 4 in 90 min sounds good to me? The closer I get to term the more twitchy I'd be about vb do more likely to try and demand CS!

Biscuitsandtea · 09/02/2012 19:25

I'm going to bear that in mind Dream and definitely bring it up at the consultant appt in a fortnight.

Too - I've heard others say it should be 10 in an hour, but I don't get anything near that. In my notes the chart, which you don't have to complete unless there is a reason to, says 10 between 9am and 6pm. But the lady on the phone mentioned 12 hours.

I guess 10 in 9 or 12 hours is the absolute minimum? They always say though don't they that it's important to notice a difference for you. I always remember Dream saying that her dd wriggled all the time, so if she'd only got 10 in 9 hours that would have been a huge change. Whereas i don't worry too much normally if it takes me until 7 or 8 o clock to get to 10, especially if I've been dashing about a lot during the day.
