Thanks for all the No Brooking! I think I was just having a mini panic this morning at the thought of going through the nightmare of early Jan again! Sorry to hear about those who've been having colds as well during their pg, but thank you for all the positive stories of "missed" colds from various DHs! Very encouraging! Also loving Biscuits' suggestion of sending DH out of the house for the day Grin fortunately he's at work today. He was supposed to be going swimming this eve as part of his triathlon training, but I suggested this morning that a public pool is a bad place to go when you're not feeling well. Hmmmm maybe I should rethink my advice? Suggest a nice long swim followed by a long run? Hee hee. Grin

Nice bump Dream! It's bigger than only one baby of course, but neat and perfectly formed!

Too I'm sorry you had such a stressful time at the weekend thinking your LO wasn't moving. :( These crazy hormones magnify every emotion, and a perfectly reasonable concern gets blown up into a huge panic. I'll be No Brooking that Bean takes her naps at more considerate and regular times from now on, and stops worrying her Mum!

Hurrah for Purple being on the RLT and practically 36 weeks!! Soooooooo exciting!! One of my friends had her baby on Sunday, only 5 days overdue, perfectly straightforward birth, gorgeous little girl weighing in at 7lbs something, Mum and baby both home the following day. Just wanted to put a positive story out there in the run up to Purple's big day (and all the other big days due shortly afterwards!)

Ninja you are so lucky not to have had any colds since the flu jab! I feel like I've had a thousand colds since my jab, culminating in the monster Boxing Day one. I know colds and flu aren't really related, but it still kinda sucks, boo! Next time round I shall be doing this Ninja-style, with an imprevious immune system! It's going to be tough, because I'll definitely be planning my next pg to be over the winter period as well, given the crazy light-triggered migraines I had in the first trimester - I'd have died if it'd been summer!

Last point, I asked about free nappies a while ago and I think everyone said they hadn't had any. I've just signed up to the Pampers club today for free, and they will apparently be sending me ten free nappies in the post shortly. It's not a huge amount of course, but it should be a neat little package to add to my hospital bag. I'll just unsubscribe from the newsletter once the nappies arrive. Unfortunately the offer is only available for preggos to sign up to until they reach 32 weeks, so bear that in mind. Although you can of course put in any due date you like on their form...

They're also sending baby wipes but I know (from this thread!) to ignore those for a newborn. Actually I've bought some wipes called "Water Wipes" which are 99.9% water and 0.1% fruit extract apparently, nothing else, no crazy chemicals. So they're effectively just cotton wool and water. Sounds like a good compromise to me because I've heard a few horror stories about trying to wipe off meconium with just cotton wool and water!

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 14:34

Why should you avoid wipes with newborns, scream ?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 08/02/2012 14:38

One of the experienced preggos will be along shortly with much better info than me, however as I understand it the chemicals in most wipes are too harsh for newborn skin. Using normal wipes isn't recommended by midwives for newborns, because I think it can lead to skin reactions, nappy rash, soreness, etc. So generally it's recommended you stick to just cotton wool and water for the first few weeks.

On saying that I think some people ignore the advice and their newborns have been fine with normal wipes straight away. Other babies have sensitive skin and react to normal wipes even when they're a few weeks old. So there's no hard and fast rule! (I think).

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 15:03

That's about my understanding too Scream Smile.

Or, it a conspiracy by mean MWs who like to watch you struggle to scrape Meconium off with cotton wool HmmConfused

I think I might have just had a BH thingamy Smile

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 15:38

Ahh, I see, thanks scream :)
DH is allergic to just about everything going, so that's a nugget of information to store away for future use, methinks Wink

Ooo biscuits exciting !

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 15:51

Yes Popcorn - make sure you test on an inconspicuous area before using wipes on your DH WinkGrin

fishcakefoxtrot · 08/02/2012 16:00

Scream that's my understanding too. DD has always had quite sensitive skin so we still just use water and cloths (cut up old t shirts!). I use some loo roll to wipe off the poo and than clean with water. We use wipes if we are out but she says they sting. Now where is the [looking forward to DD being potty trained] emoticon?!

And am brooking no arguement that you will avoid this cold, Scream. In fact, maybe the cholorine in the pool would help your DH- it might disinfect him for you!

Biscuits DD has a weetabix and a few cornflakes with full fat milk. She will also often have the raisins from my muesli too. At the weekends, and on mornings when she hasn't had breakfast with DH, she has porridge, again with full fat milk, and honey. That is her favourite.

Nice bump Dream! I am about one biscuit away from the stretch marks erupting. My skin feels so tight. Also, my bottom is huge. I have been investigating gym classes in the town we are moving too. I might be deluding myself but I am looking forward to getting my body back in full working order! I am normally pretty active and reasonable flexible. At the moment I am so stiff and my back is so sore if I sit for too long. Grumble grumble...

Hello Popcorn! I don't think I have offered my congratulations Smile I am afraid I don't keep up with the conception thread (can barely keep up with this one!)- is this your first DC? I am 30 weeks with number 2 (currently unidentified).

Sorry to hear you are having such a stressful time Too, how many weeks have you got left? Have you got a date? I am seeing the consultant/ having a scan on Wed next week and am going to try and get a date but I have heard it tends to get left until about 36 weeks. I need to organise for my sister to come up though!

I have been giving post delivery snacks a lot of thought! DH and I were given an enormous pile of toast last time and it was WONDERFUL. So I hope we get that again. I was starving and really, really thirsty. I got told off for swigging DH's tango last time as fizzy drinks are apparently a bad idea post section but they seem to be the only things in the vending machines, so I am going to pack some water and a flask of squash. I think I will take sandwiches and get DH to bring in a big M and S salad bowl. I actually have quite fond memories of the hospital food- I was ravenous all the time so all the stodge tasted good.

Hope everyone is having a good day. Happy 20-weeks-today Ninja Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 16:54

Right, now, here's an odd question for you all:

I've been struggling bra wise since being pg, and have found a comfy one from bravissimo. The only problem is that the bloody wires keep coming out of them! I've taken them back to bravissimo and had them replaced numerous times. They have tried fitting me with different styles, but nothing is nearly as comfortable as these (before the wires poke out at least!) I'm sure it's a design fault or something.

Anyway, I don't actually live the close to bravissimo so keep going back to the shop is inconvenient. Similarly if I post them back for a replacement then I don't have them while I send them away Confused!

I've only had these latest ones for, what, 4 weeks or so? Can't remember exactly when I bought them but it was after New Year.

I was really hoping that they'd see me through and then obv after the birth I'll be in horrible, shapeless, unsupportive nursing bras anyway.

So, my question is this. Can anyone think of a way to temporarily fix the wires so they don't keep poking out? Doesn't need to be stylish, or glamourous, just to stop the wore poking out (between my boobs).

Please help,
Yours sincerely
Desperate of Bra-ville

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 17:03

:o biscuits

Do they poke out of the end of the cup? Through a seam or through the fabric? I can only thing you'd have to tack a bit of fabric over the end to keep them in place; something thick enough that the wire won't punch through?

You have the coolest username, foxtrot :o
Yes, it's our first DC - I'm 27 and DH is 31, and we've been ttc for about a year. We're both ridiculously very excited - as you must be at 30 weeks! Not long to go now :)

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 17:08

They poke out right between my boobs popcorn - like where my cleavage is.

So I'm not exactly sure whether it's a seam or fabric because they're poking out of the top of the little bit stitched round the cup for the wire (iyswim)

Don't worry, I'll resist the urge to post a pic Grin.

Erm, I'm not really the sort of crafty person who has bits of fabric lying around Hmm. Where can I easily get something from?

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 17:12

I take it the end isn't sharp? Shock

Do you have a Hobbycraft or John Lewis nearby? You'd want something thin but tightly woven I think, like light calico or cotton, or maybe felt which would be easier to sew but might be a bit thick to wear next to your skin Hmm

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 17:19

It's not sharp but it is a bit pointy - it's a flat piece of metal about 5ml wide rather than a round wire.

No JL or similar unless I went to he town where bravissimo is. Sad I need something I can buy in a supermarket ideally to save me having to go into town! This is because I'm lazy and hate taking da into town!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 17:20

Or maybe some gaffer tape - I wonder if DH has any in the garage....

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 17:24

I can post you some stuff biscuits ?

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 17:33

Oh that's really kind popcorn but I'm sure I'll find something if I dig about enough. Thank you though Smile

DH won't miss a small bit out of his pyjama bottoms for example Grin

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 17:34

I could cut a hole out of something of his and use the gaffer tape to repair that

PopcornMouse · 08/02/2012 17:35

Tee hee hee :o

scarletfingernail · 08/02/2012 19:10

So much to catch up on! I've been absent for a day or so, DS has been so poorly I've barely had a minute to myself. He seems to be on the mend now, but he really has been in a state. (So have I for worrying, I'm so rubbish at dealing with anything illness).

Biscuits Ouch! That sounds excrutiating. No suggestions from me I'm afraid, I'm the least creative person around. I don't even own a needle and thread!
With regards breakfast for DS, most mornings he has 1 Weetabix with full fat milk and a sliced banana on top. A couple of times a week he has Ready Brek with a teaspoon of strawberry jam mixed in.

Congratulations musical on your house offer being accepted. I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible for you now.

Lovely neat bump dream Smile It's hard to imagine it getting any bigger than that.

I eventually had tea and strawberry jam on toast after DS was born. (About 3 hours and 3 times of asking later). I was ravenous and soooo thirsty, but honestly there was nothing I fancied more.

NinjaChipmunk · 08/02/2012 19:27

evening all. I did come back on earlier on when I was at work, wrote a big long post and then our IT department decided they needed to hijack my computer and logged me off so I lost it all. Never mind, I don't think it was very profound.

Grin at gaffer taping your dp's jimjams biscuits.
And popcorn I would love to see your wall of fabric, I bet you have some lovely stuff. I intend to order my sling rings this weekend so I can start to make my sling over the next week or two. I'm betting the kernal will have some brilliant baby bits and bobs made by you. Every now and then I look at The Purl Bee blog and seriously covet some of their stuff. They have some lovely baby blankets on there. I'm quite tempted to try to make one of these.
Is it starting to sink in yet? I think if you have been trying for quite a while you go into a bit of shock for a while? I think I did. We do have a stats thread somewhere, when you feel ready Smile

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 19:33

Oh no Scarlet sorry to hear DS is still so poorly Sad. I was hoping he was on the up on Monday. Is it still the virus thing from before?

Hope you haven't had to deal with any puking Sad. Also hope he's on the mend soon.

Bra-gate isn't that painful by is a PITA! I've now swapped to a non-wired bra but it's so flipping uncomfortable! I'm not built for this sort of bra! Blush

Wants3 · 08/02/2012 19:34

Bean decided to finally get active yesterday and tried to re-enact that scene from Alien when I got into bed!
Good wmip appointment today, I have actually lost a bit of weight since last month. :)
Sorry to hear about colds,I have been fairly lucky so far but working with young children tends to build up the immune system I think!

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 19:38

Cross post Ninja.

How rude of your IT dept! They need to sort their priorities out Confused

I'm a little envious of all of you with your sewing type skills.

And I agree re the shock when you've been ttc for a while - I still sometimes forget I'm pg and think we're still ttc. Just the other week I had a minor panic when I couldn't work out what cycle day I was on Hmm. But I still read lots of the conception threads because I can't quite get out of the mindset. Confused

Biscuitsandtea · 08/02/2012 19:42

Glad your bean is on the wriggle again wants and well done on the weight thing. Can I ask what wmip stands for? Am I being dim? (very likely!)

My bean has been quieter the last couple of days which is playing on my mind a little. I don't have my next appt for another fortnight Confused

NinjaChipmunk · 08/02/2012 19:42

wasn't it cycle day 200 and something in the end? Grin Its only now that I'm feeling regular movement and have a bump I think I'm getting over the shock!

fishcakefoxtrot · 08/02/2012 19:42

Hope the gaffer tape doesn't chafe biscuits!

That blanket is gorgeous ninja and would be easy to make. I am much more if a knitter than a sewer. Haven't knit anythingnfor the bump yet though. Will probably do a hat and some socks and then a blanket once it has arrived. Plus it will inherit dd's cardigans etc regardless of sex I think! Will you make anything popcorn?

Hope ds gets better quickly scarlet. am hoping that these children are kindly getting all their illnesses out of the way before their siblings arrive.
