Feeling a bit fed up, partly because I posted a (to my mind very reasonable) question about car seats which has turned into a dogpile. I could understand if I had posted in AIBU but really, we have been trying to work out how to organise car seats for DS and the new baby, keeping them both rear facing.
I have tended to go in the back with DS for various reasons, partly, thnking about it, because I lost 3 pregnancies in a row before him and was so worried that something might happen to him. Also, I was bfing constantly and on any significant journey it was much easier if I could be close to him. We also were in an awful accident when he was 1, when DH fell asleep at the wheel and wrote the car off, and I was very relieved that I could see all the way through that DS was alright. So we have tended to keep one adult in the back with DS after all this. And there are practical and safety advantages.
It has helped that we have a large estate; because we are keeping DS rear facing, there has actually been more space in the back passenger seat than in the front one, so it has not been too uncomfortable in the back.
It will seem a bit odd now not sitting with the baby.
I can sort of see why people have been so unpleasant on the thread I started. I honestly had not been that bothered about how other people organise their child arrangements, and would not judge others. However, I think many people are very defensive about how they bring up their children and if someone seems to be doing even a small thing a bit different it is in a way reassuring to put the boot in. It sort of bigs up their self esteem to make them feel that they are in the right.
However, I do think this sort of thing is not very good for me at 36 weeks pregnant and trying to sort out my baby car seat etc! so I have hidden the thread, but then still felt a bit frustrated about the whole thing and thought I would come somewhere a bit more supportive. It was not nice to come back from an urgent medical appointment to find a dogpile!
We probably will just stick the 2 kids rearfacing in the back and hope for the best...
