Hello, my name is Becky and I have just got my BFP after TTC for 5 months with 1 MMC a month ago.

I noticed that no-one had started a August 2012 antenatal club so thought I might start one here. Welcome to all!

Here are my stats;

Harmonyb23 (23) Due date 19/08/12 DC#3

Please let me know if I am doing anything wrong, I've never started a thread before!

Hi missduff I have (had!) one flat and one inverted nipple but after 14 months of bf (& still going) they have changed a lot! I had a lot of problems to start with, DS couldn't/wouldn't latch and I ended up syringe feeding him formula top ups for the first 5 days. We did a lot of skin to skin and I put him to the breast as much as possible. I think the formula perked him up a bit (he was v sleepy) and when my milk finally came in on day 5 he had enough energy to latch properly, I'm sure encouraged by the out pouring of milk.

I've also read that you can use a pump initially to draw out the nipple before offering. Hope that helps.

missduff · 24/12/2011 21:30

Thanks chocchip. When I was on the birth centre and initially was trying to breast feed him (unsuccessfully) the midwives were all great and they did a lot to help me, syringe fed him breast milk, put me on an electric pump to try and draw the nipple out, physically grabbed DS's mouth and tried to force him to latch etc etc but eventually after 24 hours of him hardly having any milk he was getting very very sleepy and I just wanted my baby to have a proper feed so we gave him a bottle. But after that the midwives didn't really encourage me or support me in breast feeding, it was just like 'oh we'll he's on a bottle now'.
It's partly my own fault, I should have spoke up and asked for the help more, but hey ho you live and learn.
I've heard there's also some kind of teet you can place over your nipple? I'll speak to the midwife about it sometime, we're a long way off that just now anyway.

Merry christmas everyone! Hope you all have a lovely day! I am not feeling sick yet today which is good as I was dreading today. Will worry about the drop in symptoms tomorrow!

Missduff - the breastfeeding sounds tough. I have already not got my hopes up about bf as often the milk doesn't flow well for people with PCOS - I am hoping that my last scan showing clear ovaries and my LH hormone wasn't elevated means I am in with a chance but I will be armed with bottles and formula just in case and now worry too much about it.

Breakfast in bed done - now time to hope I can get up and still feel ok. Enjoy your day all!

Merry Christmas!! X

Ambi · 26/12/2011 05:38

Hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday xx I've been having early wake ups and lots of weeing already, I can't remember being so early with that. The funny thing is I only tested on Friday, I figured I had a 5% chance of pregnacy due us trying the rhythm method this month for the first time, we were only going to "try" next year and since I've known, I've never felt so pregnant. Really sore boobs, funny tummy aches and pains and nausea. I would have written those things off had I not known for sure.

I wrapped up a digital test in a babygro for DH. I couldn't wait til Xmas day so gave it Xmas Eve. He didn't faint like I'd imagined, he took it much better than me actually. Told our parents on Xmas day, they're really pleased, though they are sworn to secrecy.

I'm not sure if I want to make a doctors appt this time, I might call them to advise I'm pg and ask that they arrange the midwife appt. Will that work?

The timing of this baby couldn't be more perfect as DD starts school in Sept, I currently work ft so being on mat leave whilst she's starts school takes a lot of the stress out of after school clubs/ asking work for pt hours.

missduff · 26/12/2011 08:41

ambi my DS starts pre-school in sept too and I'm really pleased about the timing too, baby due 23rd aug so DP will have a week or 2 at home with me and then DS will start school. He will have only just turned 3 in July so it will be nice for him to be dropped off n picked up by mummy rather than have to use before&after school clubs or a childminder. Also means I'll be able to still go to baby massage which I loved doing with DS. And the ability to go to bed in the day when ever I please Smile

Ambi · 26/12/2011 13:56

I love the afternoon sleeps, had one today and yesterday. I'm planning on working right upto due date this time, last time I had 4 weeks off before DD loved afternoon naps then.

0FrillyKnickers0 · 26/12/2011 17:25

Hi everyone! I hope you've all had a lovely Christmas? Mine was wonderful but exhausting Smile I don't know about you, but the tiredness has hit! I am tired all the time an it's not just cause its Christmas!!

We told our families this weekend, lots of tears and jumping about Grin So happy!

We're you all able to eat without feeling sick? X

Ambi · 26/12/2011 17:31

Just got upset with Mum, she's told her parents today despite strict instructions not to. My Gdad is very sick and doesn't have long, her reasoning was to cheer them up. Normally I would understand but she knows we're travelling to see them tomorrow to tell them face to face. I'm fuming with her and I've got to spend an awkward family party with her tonight. Grr. Bloody parents. Not sure I can trust her with anything now Sad

NeedlesCuties · 26/12/2011 17:57

Sorry to hear that ambi

DH and I are really trying to hold off telling anyone till 12 weeks this time. Last time when pregnant with DS we told our parents at 8 weeks and my mum kept almost letting it slip. Then once she was 'allowed' to tell people she told EVERYONE, even the workers in her local shop who didn't even know me Hmm

Chocchip88 · 26/12/2011 20:38

Ah ambi how frustrating for you. I'm sure your grandad will be thrilled to hear it from you too though.
We're not planning on telling anyone until after the 12 week scan, last time for some reason I hated telling people. I don't know why, we were really happy about it and had lovely reactions, I think I just don't like the attention being on me! Christmas over and done with no suspicions, just new year to contend with now!

namechangerbat · 26/12/2011 21:33

Merry Christmas ladies Smile

I feel completely rotten. Now 7+1 and am exhausted. Feel totally bloated and sick.

MW appt on wednesday - have to find some one to have 5 year old as can't take her and DP at work, if I took her she would tell everyone im pregnant and we are planning on not telling any one other than my sister until as close to 20 weeks as we can Smile

PictureThis · 26/12/2011 22:59

Hello all, everyone have a good christmas? Well I had a busy day yesterday, delivered a baby just before six am then came home and cooked Christmas dinner for 8. Managed to get a cheeky snooze in after lunch but woke up in time for presents...perfect. We all had a lovely day with Mum at the forefront of our minds and I'm sure she was with us if only to make sure I didn't make a pigs ear out of the dinner!!! Boobs are still sore, still having some cramps which although I know are normal I keep expecting to see blood when I wipe. I seem to remember being like this last time too.

harmonyb23 · 26/12/2011 23:14

Hello everyone! My goodness a lot has been said since I last checked in. Hoping that you all had a fabulous christmas?!

I am suffering with a bit of 'evening' sickness tonight :(
Not sure if it's from overeating or baby:)

Am now 6+1 and hoping to hear from the midwife regarding early scan in next couple of days. I am hoping that everything is alright this time round, but am feeling much more pregnant than during MMC last month. Fingers crossed X

DP has tomorrow off so going out for a walk with the kids, hoping the weather stays nice. Speak soon.X

Arghhhhhh.... Told my family this afternoon. Just found out that niece has announced it on her bbm (not hugely sure what it is) but she now says she has just removed it. I am stressing now that it'll go public... Does anyone use bbm and can confirm I've not been publicly outed?

missduff · 27/12/2011 19:20

Not sure about bbm, isn't that the Blackberry messenger thing? Think it's only visible to ppl with blackberry's so It's not been announed to the whole world.
We told my dad and his mrs yesterday and my brother on Xmas day which just slipped out when he gave me 3 bottles of wine and a posh corkscrew! Lol
DP is gonna tell his family in the new year but gonna wait a while before we tell the kids.
Got dr appointment tomos, I've been getting sharp pains on one side of my abdomen the past few days and I had it before I got BFP n went to A&E with it as was worried it was ectopic pregnancy but the hospital pregnancy test was negative so I was just sent away, a couple of days later I got BFP. Anyway I'm still worried it could be ectopic altho I've not had any bleeding. Hoping Dr will send me for an early scan.

warzonemummy · 27/12/2011 20:41

Ladies,
I usually am on August thread in Pregnancy but I suppose I belong here too.
I am 28 and pregnant with the first one. the EDD for me is 03/08/2012.
I have not been able to eat for weeks now and last few days am regularly puking too :( also have sore boobs. I also get stupid rash type thing on my boobs and back at night every night. Had a bleeding scare so on a Saturday walked into the EPU and got a scan done. I am waiting for the 12 week to arrive and pass.
So good to have you all to talk with.

DeeLite · 28/12/2011 08:15

Congratulations ladies.how nobody minds me intruding. I am from the ttc threads and getting very down after five months' ttc with exquisitely timed swi and no BFP. Can I ask how long you were trying in earnest ie charting etc assuming you didn't just get lucky. Sorry again for the intrusion and wishing you happy pregnancies and healthy babies.

DeeLite · 28/12/2011 08:18

Sorry, that was hope not how. Tiny keyboard on my phone (and fat fingers on me :-))

missduff · 28/12/2011 08:48

deelite well this time we weren't exactly TTC, just not doing anything to stop making a baby for the past 3-4 months but with DS I was TTC for a year and charted and temped for some of that, altho I didn't really like it, it made me a bit too obsessed and took the fun out of TTC.
I saw my GP about the fact it was taking me so long TTC and her advice was to stop trying, and u know what? She was right. The month we stopped trying I got pregnant.

5 months is still pretty early days, I don't think u have anything to worry about, just try and relax and enjoy TTC and I'm sure it'll happen for u soon enough. Good luck x

PictureThis · 28/12/2011 08:50

We took nearly 4 years of TTC for #2. We were due to see the fertility specialist in the new year but don't need to now Grin.

AugustMoon · 28/12/2011 10:45

Hi ladies. Hope you all had a nice Christmas. Ours was very special, tinged with sadness as we should have had a 3/4 month old baby boy with us but DS1 and 2 made it lovely anyway.
Hi deelite, I've always been v lucky in that I've got pg quite quickly. Used ov tests but never had to get to the stage of charting. I hope you get yr bfp soon x
I'm very worried. I'm 7+2 and still no real symptoms. I feel a bit tired and I've been eating a lot but no nausea or sore boobs and I've had that every time before. I've seen the midwife already, last week, and I'm having consultant led care - the consultant I saw after we lost DS3 - but I haven't heard anything from her about an early scan and the mw said first scan would be 12 wks. I don't know if I can wait that long. Every day I feel like this baby might have died too and I'm scared. I don't know if I could cope with that.

harmonyb23 · 28/12/2011 11:06

deelite I had been trying for 4 months when I fell pregnant in November, had an early miscarriage at 6 weeks and am now nearly 7 weeks pregnant. It felt like such a long time this time round, got pregnant with other 2 DS's pretty much straight away. Everyone is different though and I'm sure it'll happen for you soon enough. I agree with missduff we ended up getting pregnant the month we stopped trying. I assumed I wouldn't ovulate after a MMC so thought that last cycle was a loss but here I am 6+3! :-) good-luck :-)

Augustmoon I really feel for you in your situation, it must be really difficult being pregnant and dealing with your recent loss. I too have been told I may require an early scan but have heard nothing yet since talking to my doctor last Friday. 12 weeks does seem a long time, could you not book a private scan? Just to set your mind at ease? I am sure that everything is fine, not all pregnancies are the same. This pregnancy has been very different to my last 2 - I had no sickness with 2 previous and this time round I am feeling constantly nauseous and absolutely starving!

Quick question - I had been dieting previous to BFP and have so far lost 24lbs. Is it safe for me to continue dieting as I still have 14lbs to go before I reach my target weight? It is not a silly diet but does require a restriction towards carbohydrates.

OP posts:
PictureThis · 28/12/2011 12:36

I think possibly a low gi diet would be better than a carb restricted diet in pregnancy.

missduff · 28/12/2011 13:11

augustmoon I agree with harmony, could you maybe book a private scan? I know they're not cheap (about £100) but the wait until 12 week wait will seem like a lifetime. I'm worried and for no particular reason so I can imagine it must be such a frightening time for u,

dieting I had been wondering about this myself, I've n
