Oh, thats the pump that I had before I melted it instead of sterilising it,I thought it was very good (although perhaps too powerful with its suction of the nipple). I think he just considered it my job as I should have been able to feed her, although he would wind her if I was too tired, but he does play with her as he did with DD1. Interestingly enough the BFing councillor said I had the opposite problem from you (a very fast let down) which resulted in the same problem (frustrated/gagging baby which would fall asleep very quickly in a feed) which had the same cure - to express first.

mopsytop · 31/12/2011 09:16

I think the pump quite good but then not tried any others. Wd like to try an electric one to see if it's more efficient though.I think all aspects of our baby's care are joint responsibility - just because I have breasts I don't see why I sd have all the responsibilty. Even if I get successful at bf and can manage to return to it 100% I'll still be asking my husband to do nappy changes/baths etc. We're in this together!!

mopsytop · 31/12/2011 09:29

Re: melting the pump, I was just thinking earlier that I am sure one of these days to put the steriliser in the microwave with no water in and melt everything. It wd be so easily done, especially when tired! Is that what happened to you?

OiMissus · 31/12/2011 11:11

My baby is 21 today! (21 days - bit still it's going too fast!).
Lochia - after a break, it's back. So am constantly wearing shorts/big knickers and a pad. Breasts leak all the time too.
So how can I do skin to skin, or give my cs stitches some air with all this huge underwear?!!
Ok, Alistair has finally fallen asleep, time to get in the shower and find some clothes! Smile

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 31/12/2011 11:23

I love my Avent electric pump it's brilliant. can get at least 5oz per boob when I pump which is good.

Sky is being good, but grizzly between 2 & 4 am however, been good since. Darcie on the other hand is Anti-daddy and it's making my life hell Sad Neil's upset because she doesn't want to do anything with him and it's my fault and Darcie just screams I DON'T WANT TO! Sad

OiMissus · 31/12/2011 12:15

I'm feeling sorry for daddy too. Ali just needs mum. Often, the only way to placate him when he's crying is to offer him the boob. So dad can't do much. Sad
It's a shame darcies that Darcie is rejecting daddy too. She's probably a bit jealous of mum and minidarcie.

festivefiggy · 31/12/2011 13:00

Just tried expressing by pump and hand and still only 2ml very frustrated am off to hit the Internet for tips.

DH is still scared of Danny everytime he cries he gives him to me and goes on about needing to feed him like there's no other reason why he might be crying. I have to confess I still don't know any of his cries yet so just fuss over him until he stops one way or another. We taking him to in laws later as they've offered to cook for us since obviously no other new year plans god I hope he doesn't make a show of himself Grin. Anyone have any nice plans for this evening?

OiMissus · 31/12/2011 13:42

I haven't been able to differentiate between the cries. But so far the solutions have been a feed, a change of nappy or, just today, help to wind ( gentle tummy massage, cycle legs, sat on knee hand at back of neck hand supporting chin doing circles - good for burping).
Tonight we've just bought in a tesco's finest ready meal ( Grin ) and champagne, our best friends are coming around beforehand for champagne and nibbles. (they'll then go on a pub crawl in the village whilst we get cosy with Jools Holland, I guess.) the question is, will we last till midnight?!

msbaublestwinkle · 31/12/2011 13:54

Our plans for this evening centre around the 1/2 price Bucks Fizz we picked up yesterday in Sainsburys! Tis their Taste the Difference Clementine one. Plan on watching a film, eating chocolate and jumping DP if the children go to sleep at a reasonable time!

Been out to the swings this morning for a splash in the puddles, DD1 now complaining of being tired! Miri was being fussed over by Grannies in the park....I love how having a baby makes people want to chat.

OiMissus · 31/12/2011 14:08

Jumping DP sounds like fun (mine, not yours msb - though I do not doubt that your DP is also entirely jump-worthy!). I have been careful due to cs wound, and also urgh-ness of lochia and squirty breasts, but tonight's a good night to get over it, and get it on.
And I've been rubbish at going out -again due to warnings of not pushing a pram till week 4 - or was it 6? - due to cs. And shite weather. But that cherry needs a proper popping too. (did a mini pop in week 2 to see a rented house 400 yards away with pram).
Mmmm will do a good walk tomorrow, weather permitting. Smile

OiMissus · 31/12/2011 14:13

That should've been "Hmmm.." ponder, rather than "Mmmm..." cheese.

OiMissus · 31/12/2011 14:16

...although have also got in some Brie and Roquefort. Grin

aethelfleda · 31/12/2011 14:28

We're off to brave "Alvin and the Chipmunks:Chipwrecked".
Not convinced it will be cinematic history, but the DDs are keen!

And I get to eat popcorn. Nom.

jinglebum · 31/12/2011 15:10

bee yes freya does seem to gag on mucus sometimes and has produced milk snot a few times when feeding! think i should try the breast milk up the nose thing too.

we are off round friends shortly to celebrate new year but early and will be home eight ish due to ds , so dont think we will reach midnight as knackered. they have a 3 yo and 6 month old so are in the same boat.

happy new year everyone

LittleMissFlustered · 31/12/2011 15:24

New year plan involves being in bed not long after the kids and sleeping off 2011:o

Hope you all have a good night:)

mopsytop · 31/12/2011 16:07

We got some party nibbles & cava in m&s. That and telly for our nye methinks, although pretty sure won't make it to midnight! Have a good one everyone!!!

mopsytop · 31/12/2011 16:24

p.s.Oi I don't think there'll be any husband jumping going on here for a looooong time. Big episiotomy- ouch! It's supposed to be ok after 6 wks though and it's been less than 2. Just can't imagine feeling normal down there again. Any words of wisdom from someone who's been there before?

AnAirOfHope · 31/12/2011 16:54

Hello everyboby Smile

I think 2011 has been great just cos my little girl was born Blush, here's hoping that 2012 will be even better.

Our plans are to have pizza for tea, give son more calpol for his temp and hope he is not sick on me again untill the new year. Watching TV, feeding Hope and mumsnetting. We have our hot choc already to go for 12 to see the new year in Grin

Happy new year everyone xx

LittleMissFlustered · 31/12/2011 17:39

We're currently rocking out to the Savage Songs episode of Horrible Histories. Bed after. We know how to party chez Flustered:)

For those who are currently nursing their first babies, you can look forward to this. But Mat Baynton is all miiiiiine!:o

Happy New Year to you all

YBR · 31/12/2011 18:03

mopsy My episiotomy (which seems big to me) unraveled but is significantly better and healing well at 5 weeks. They decided not to re-stitch 'cos it took them so long to realize, so I'm probably not typical, however, 6 weeks seems reasonable.

For those expressing: have a look at ebay for breast pumps. I managed to get a Medela electric one significantly cheaper than new. I had been using a manual one but my wrists couldn't take the strain.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 31/12/2011 19:14

Happy New Year Ladies Grin hope you all have a fantastic 2012 xx

aethelfleda · 31/12/2011 20:45

Happy New Year everyone! Survived the Chipmunks film. LMF, my DDs are nutty about the Horrible Histories lot too. You can have Mat though: he's got a fab voice but you could open beer bottles with that chin! I'll stick to Johnny Depp.

for those of us still to pop and for all you new mummies with LOs to cuddle into 2012!

festivefiggy · 31/12/2011 21:19

DH and I r off to bed in a minute for a few hours of skin to skin with LO, just had bath with tea tree oil to try and heal my graze and it's knocked me out. I'm also happy to report this is the 1st day since I had him that I'm ending the day with human sized ankles and feet ........feels like an achievement of sorts next just to get my boobs working!!

mopsytop · 31/12/2011 21:22

Enjoy the skin-to-skin* figgy. I plan to spend all day tomorrow on the futon doing skin-to-skin to try and improve the breastfeeding also. Looking forward to the snuggle time. Happy new year everyone!

AReindeerCalledHorse · 31/12/2011 21:33

Happy New Year everyone!

I've got a Tommee Tippee manual pump, it's ok but I much prefer hand expressing...are electric pumps that much better? Darcie, is yours loud or a cumbersome thing to clean/dry?

Managed to sit down properly in the bath today (instead of balancing on one cheek), so my piles & stitches are healing, yaaaaay!!

mopsy, haven't been here before but if it makes you feel any better I've never felt less like having sex in my entire life! It's been almost 2 weeks since we've done anything more than kiss/cuddle & I've not missed it.

LMF, having just googled Mat Bayton I take back my previous paragraph Grin
