...and those of us left are doing a fair bit of bitching:o

I wonder if we could get a [pompoms] going on? Do we have the energy for a campaign?Wink

Right, come on! We're a third of the way through the month and Nickelbabe needs new recruits for her advent thread. Get squeezing:o

Oh no, poor Darcies. Not very fair of your husband to be pissed off with you either, how are you supposed to know if it's labour or not when you are in so much pain? And the midwife sounds like a cow. She could have been nicer. Glad your own midwife is nicer. Hope the painkillers help with the pain, you poor thing, you must be so fed up and frustrated :(

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 18/12/2011 16:45

Mopsy Thanks Smile I know I shouldn't of but had a clary sage bath and tried to see if I could feel my cervix - which I found straight away so this MW really couldn't be asked. DH said he didn't mean to say what he did, he was annoyed at the MW as everyone could see how much discomfort I'm in and he was venting.

Still got back ache and abdominal cramps after a bath & some co-dydrimol (sp?) I know the internal would make it more uncomfortable - not as if she done a sweep or even bothered to find my cervix tho! so will see what happens.

So fed up!

mopsytop · 18/12/2011 16:48

Maybe it IS labour and something will happen during the night? I'd try and get some sleep maybe? Just in case.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 18/12/2011 16:51

need to try and sleep as didn't get much at all last night due to back ache!

mopsytop · 18/12/2011 16:52

Poor you. Maybe go now and try and have a nap?

OiMistletoe · 18/12/2011 17:01

darcies sorry to hear about the crappy MW. She ought to know better.
Good luck, hope things start to happen soon.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 18/12/2011 17:05

I can feel baby's head pushing against my cervix with a sharp pain! Sad

Oi Thanks

Best not be in this pain for days, am fed up as it is! That snotty MW said I'd go over into the new year and to go home and enjoy Xmas in pain with DD! DP thinks I might be in early labour and is currently chopping up another fresh pineapple and brewing a cup of RLT!

mopsytop · 18/12/2011 17:09

That MW sounds like a cow, I think. How on earth could she possibly know if you'd go over? That's not something you can tell like that. If they knew that precisely, none of us would be sitting around wondering for goodness sake! I hope it turns into full on labour for you now!

AnAirOfHope · 18/12/2011 17:13

Evening all

Air has a cold and a high temp all weekend and has been sick a few times. Hope is not feeding as much as what i think she should be but she is sleeping after a feed and is contected when awake, so i gess she is getting enough.

I have started to leak when feeding from the breast i'm not feeding from - i guess its let down! And when i'm full and she starts crying. I sent DH out to Mothercare to get breast pads but i hate them as the are itchy and not soft and i just dont like them. I'm now thinking about going too buying organic bamboo pads - has anyone tried these? Are they soft/not itchy?

I'm panicing about xmas as i'm just not ready and its next Saturday Sad

Air had his first play date and they have just left and he is now crashed out on sofa. I think he has found a partner in crime Grin

AnAirOfHope · 18/12/2011 17:29

jinglebum - Hope is the same. She will fuss at breast and pull off and get back on alot and then cry and pull her legs up or hold them stiff out. I'm holding off on the infocol as she has a cold and a stuffy noise. if she is the same after cold has gone then i think she might have colic. She has a fussy time 4am -6am Sad

Darcie - i hope you feel better soon or that labour kicks off for you. MW sounds like she is in the wrong job. Glad your own mw on tonight. How meny weeks are you now?

kri5tycringle · 18/12/2011 18:18

darcies I had back labour, I didn't have any at the front... but for a few days before labour, I had a very bad backache. The major difference between the backache and contractions was that with the contractions I could feel the pain 'coming on' 'peaking' and 'easing off'.

The mw sounds like a witch!

aethelfleda · 18/12/2011 18:43

air try and see if your DP can get lanisoh disposable breast pads: they are way better than the mothercare own and they are £6 a pack in mothercare. They have gel in similar to newborn pampers and can literally hold 30ml of milk without leaking!

aethelfleda · 18/12/2011 18:47

And grr darcies for the unsympathetic midwife, not what you need at all!

Mmmmcheese · 18/12/2011 19:38

Looks like DS has chickenpox :( today was the last day of the incubation period so we were getting excited about being able to introduce DS to DD tomorrow and stopping the quarantine we've had going in the house since DD was born (DD and I stay upstairs and DS stays downstairs, sleeps in travel cot in living room and has bath in the kitchen). I hate not being able to be there to comfort him when he is ill, and it will be nearly 3 weeks of me not having spent much time with him. Also means that we may have to spend Christmas day apart, with DH and DS downstairs and DD and I upstairs :(

Sorry for the moan but it is so unfair! I was already apart from DS for 9 weeks while I was on bedrest due to complicated pregnancy. I worry that he thinks I don't love him any more or want to be with him. He's only just 2 (and missed his bday due to the quarantine as well) so doesn't understand why mummy doesn't play with him any more :( feeling really depressed :(

KateKringle · 18/12/2011 20:14

Mmmm that's awful. Big hugs.

Sending labour vibes to all who need them. Darcies hope it is labour for you, if only to prove the horrible MW wrong!

High: Got 5 hours sleep last night, and good quality sleep because Daniel slept in his Moses basket Xmas Smile I swaddled him in a blanket and cuddled him off to sleep, then put him in the basket and tucked a sheet tight over the top so that he felt like he was still being held. It may not work again, but I appreciated a good night last night anyway!

Low: V sore nipples which I'm dumping lots of lansinoh onto

MsB another BF question: My boobs feel quite engorged this evening, but I didn't think milk came in this early (DS was born on Fri morning). Could it be milk coming in, or something else?

I've posted some new photos on my profile. Let me know if you can see them

The birth story: Overnight Weds I had very mild cramps every 15 mins, which I could sleep through. Then everything stopped Thurs am. Had a show on my way to MW appointment and she then did a sweep. From 4pm onwards I had manageable contractions every 10 mins. Went to bed and managed a few hours sort of sleep until about 2am. Got up at 3 and started timing contractions, which were then every 5 mins. Woke DH at 4.45 and asked him to call hospital as contractions were getting stronger. They told me not to come in until I was getting 3 in 10 mins. At 5.30 I went to get out of PJ's and into clothes and suddenly contractions were coming thick and fast. It took me ages to get dressed as I had to keep stopping and dropping onto all fours to manage the pain. We set off for hospital just after 6, driving through a snow storm, and arrived at labour ward at 6.30 after a few stops for contractions between the car park and there. They did paperwork and took me round to wait outside triage room (and to do a urine sample, which really was taking the piss as I couldn't manage more than a drop between the frequent contractions!). Fortunately they then decided to skip triage and took me straight to a room. Arrived there at 6.50, waters went pretty much straight away and then by the time the MW got her gloves on I had uttered the classic "I need to push". She did a quick exam and told me that sure enough I could start pushing. They monitored baby's heartbeat which dropped as he got a bit stuck going round the corner. The registrar was called in and they were on the verge of doing episiotomy and ventouse when with the next contraction I had his head halfway out. Another contraction for the head to be delivered, one more for the body, and Daniel was with us at 7.15. I had a small tear and a bit of a graze but otherwise all OK. He latched on straight away once we went skin-to-skin and we were home 8 hours after birth. A complete contrast to DD's birth Xmas Grin

aethelfleda · 18/12/2011 21:07

Oh no mmm, are you sure? Though i hope you may be able to avoid proper isolation: firstly, if you are immune to chickenpox and breastfeeding baby, then your antibodies will be getting to DD in your breastmilk: Breastfed babies virtually never get chickenpox if mum is immune. Obviously its up to you whether you feel safer avoiding close contact beween DS and DD: he wi be most catching in the first 4-5 days of the rash, after that infection risk drops rapidly and 7 days is officially "safe". The virus is in Ds's spit and coughs as well as the blisters so stopping close breath contact/kisses is the safest bet.

I'm not sure why you have to keep away from DS though: I thought you said earlier in the thread that you are immune? There's nothing to stop
You having a darned good cuddle with DS, kisses and the lot, and then washing off any slobber before you resume duties with DD. couldn't you and your DP switch who's looking after who between feeds to let you get some DS time? Yoh can't transmit chickenpox to DD indirectly unless you let him lick you all over (niice) and then transfer the spit onto DD....

Good luck anyway no matter how you decide to play it. For the record: i'm immune, but my DD1 got chickenpox at the age of 2 3/4, just after I'd stopped Bfing DD2 who was 8 months old... And promptly caught it off DD1. I was kicking myself as if i'd breastfed for a month or two more DD2 would have been protected still....

Mmmmcheese · 18/12/2011 21:19

aethel thanks, reassuring that 7 days is officially safe. Is that 7 days from rash first appearing or from blisters developing? Still takes us only to Boxing Day though :( I had read some websites that said could be infectious for up to 14 days!

Yes I'm immune so only reason is difficult for me to see DS is that DD is feeding so often so if I go and play with DS and DD wakes for a feed then DH has to come and supervise DS while I quickly shower before feeding DD. So she is left screaming for a while on her own which isn't great.

We had a lot of advice from various paeds/microbiologists/obstetricians/midwives as we knew DS was exposed and the vast majority recommended that we keep them separate as although DD should be protected by my immunity its not certain and could be serious if she does get it.

Sorry for me, me, me posts. Just feel fed up with the amount of complications we have had to deal with and the amoumnt of time I've had to spend stuck in our bedroom and not allowed to do anything. Feeling very sorry for myself :( DS at childminder for next couple of days so at least I can spend some time with DH and we can get out and about with DD if I am feeling up to it.

kate congrats on a great birth story, and glad it was so different from your previous delivery!

mopsytop · 18/12/2011 21:44

Congratulations Kate!

Really sorry to hear about all the horrible hassle you are having Mmmm, what a nightmare :(

aethelfleda · 18/12/2011 21:48

Nhs official advice is def oK by day 7 of the rash:

Link here

I agree best to be careful with DD and exposure though BFing will reduce her risk further. It's such a pain but ag least you are being responsible and concientious to do the best for your children. In a years time Ds won't remember a thing so don't beat yourself up, OK?

Kate, that sounds like a great birth, hope I get one like that!

sevenswansaswimming · 18/12/2011 23:01

mmm that's really crap for you, DS and DD.

darcies my guess is early labour, if not hope the backache passes soon.

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 19/12/2011 07:53

Morning Ladies,

Had a massive post typed out last night and lost it, didn't have the patience or energy to type it again.

Mmm after 7days of rash appearing you should be fine. Hope you get to enjoy lots of cuddles with your DS Smile

Well I was having contractions every 4mins lasting 30secs for most of the night, so 2nd nite in a row without hardly any sleep! MW said to go in once contractions reach every 60secs and have reached that high gear feeling - they must of been doing something as my cervix is right where it should be and more open so heres hoping its early labour and we could have a baby by end of the week!

Spoke to my MW last night who said she was willing to admit me to the ward yesterday and go from there but when she came to find me, we were gone. explained the other MW practically ushered us into the lift etc my MW called her a miserable ole cow Grin

going to try and stay on my feet today to try and get my cervix to do its thing.

bennybenbear · 19/12/2011 08:29

Will post details later but just to say after a 2 day failed induction (!) I am so pleasedto announce the safe arrival of Oliver Stephen at 23.27 18th Dec weighing 8lb 9 oz!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 19/12/2011 08:32

Benny Congratulations Grin

fusam · 19/12/2011 09:44

Congratulations benny.

Darcies I have also been having pains every night but not as bad as yours, hope they will turn into something more constructive for you. I have been having baths at midnight just to ease them enough to get some rest. If you can try to get some rest during the days so that you aren't totally worn out. Good luck and cheering you on.

Kate what a lovely birth story!

sazzermol · 19/12/2011 09:55

Congrats Benny! Look forward to hearing about his arrival!
Darcies and Fusam I'm still here too, 40+1 today so also going to stay on my feet or maybe all fours to try and shift the little squatter before Christmas Xmas Wink
