Hi all - just finished a fantastic curry made by DH, so now have food baby as well as baby baby. Sitting in front of the tv with my jeans held up by hair bobble but not filling my new maternity top that couldn't resist (in the sale!)

In terms of buying baby stuff, I feel a bit superstitious and have not even allowed myself to look. Maybe now I'm officially into the 2nd trimester I'll start to relax a bit

However, I do have two hand-made baby blankets. One knitted by my mum for me when I was a babe, and the other crochetted by DH's great-grandad when he was small. THis is the first grandchild on either side so I spy a little competition starting up!

bumpybel · 21/01/2006 21:43

Evening all! Had blood test results through today. Initially had been reluctant to have them all, for HIV etc, as i associate it with affecting insurance. However, seeing it all come back with a clean bill of health is nice and reassuring. Didnt really understand what the blood count bit meant though.

Maewest, i find my tummy grows loads after eating too! At the start of the day, it just looks like a relatively neat bump (ish!) but by the evening it is positively bulging all over the top and i look huge! My parents will be first time grandparents too and I know they are itching to start buying things and may have even secretly started!!

Kayzed, thanks for that! I didnt realise it involved full on massage of the area!!! But if it'll help.. and it obviously helped you, i'll give it a go. There's so much stuff you've gone through, I feel as if i havent a clue. Think i need to do some reading up on labour and what everything means!!

Wallace, that seems like a nice age gap. If you have a boy, you can get lots of trendy new boys gear!

Hope everyone who's still feeling pants is starting to feel a bit better. Kayzed, are you still feeling rough?

mgm · 21/01/2006 22:25

Hi all I'm new to mn and am pregnant with my 2nd child. I'm due july 24th and I have a 2yr old dd.

HumphreysCorner · 21/01/2006 22:29

Evening ladies

Ooh-all this talk on incompetent cervixes and kayzed, a back to back baby for part of the labour-ouch!!!! I had an epidural as DD was stuck and had to be turned. I was then put on a drip to counteract the epidural but it didn't work so couldn't feel a thing-DD took an hour to be pushed out. The midwives kept asking if I felt the need to push-doh! Of course not. Secretly hoping it will be easier the 2nd time.

bumpybel-I am convinced I am having a boy only because I have done the swinging ring/needle on cotton test and it swings in a dead straight line as opposed to a circle with DD. Will find out for deffo at the 20 week scan. You ought to have a go as I have had 100% accuracy with this method.

Have been to mum and dad's for tea and tried to drink some of my beloved Blossom Hill Californian white wine but it is so acidy -only another 5 months + to go

Feel tired and bloated so off to bed now. Goodnight all.

xxx

Hey welcome mgm!Congrats!

I'm still quite new to MN, and this will be my first!
Everyone's really friendly on here and i've learnt absolutely loads! I dont think we've got anyone else due on 24th!!
Have you got any scan dates lined up?

bumpybel · 21/01/2006 22:37

HC i'm going to find some thread and do that test!! I dont want to know at the scan, but i'm all in favour of a bit of home made fortune telling!! God knows where i'll find the thread though, let alone a needle!

usandbump · 22/01/2006 03:22

Welcome mgm How are you feeling?

I'm here at a stupid hour again coz I just can't sleep Feel fine apart from the insomnia which is beginning to get me down. Anyone else suffer from this? I was fine in the beginning it has just been in the last few weeks. Just been a bit silly and had a good cry coz I' so tired Any tips gratefully recieved!

Wallace · 22/01/2006 09:46

Welcome mgm

poor you usandbump - nothing worse than being desperatly tired, but unable to sleep...sorry no tips...

kayzed - ds and dd wereboth in the anterior postion and went the long way round during labour. They think they were in that position because my womb is heart shaped!

I bought a maternity top last night on Jojomamanbebe in the clearance sale for £9 - bargain! I won't be needing it for a while as I am still in my normal jeans (getting a wee bit tight mind you!) Luckily I have lots of jeans that are too big as I have lost weight over the last year.

kbaby · 22/01/2006 10:28

Monkeychops, I attended parentcraft classes and didnt meet anyone but went to aquanatal and met 10 other mums. Weve all kept in touch. Most of them work part time and meet up each week and go to the same toddler group. I just tend to meet up with them if im on hols or finish work early. Is there a aquanatal class by you?

Im officially in mostly maternity clothes. Some of them are a little big but my normal trousers were so tight it was painful.

I feel normal and beginning to wonder if I am pregnant. I hate this in between stage where youve had the scan but baby isnt moving often enough. I need daily reminders.

puddytat99 · 22/01/2006 10:53

Hi Everyone

I can't believe how busy it's been since I last looked in.

Heard 'Blob's' heartbeat for first time on Friday, which was cool. Though they wouldn't stay still and the midwife had to chase it all around my stomach to keep up with it. As for hard or soft stomachs, above my belly button (what's left of it!!!!) it's hard and below it's a bit soft. So don't know what that means. Probably should have done more sit ups before getting pregnant (grin)
Tomorrow is my birthday but have to be at work for 7am (shock) The joy of working in a school. Most of the kids now know and they are all excited about the baby and have started to 'look after me'. We went on an outing and I had to stand in the road to stop the traffic and some got a little upset that my baby might get run over, what about me!!!! Bless them, they're a great bunch
Hope you're all having a great weekend. Better go and do some coursework. Chat soon (smile)

IamBlossom · 22/01/2006 18:53

Evening Ladeez, it's taken me about an hour to catch up with all the posts, welcome all new arrivals.

I have done some clothes shopping this weekend for some stretchy black staples to see me through at work before maternity clothes really kick in. Bought some rather trendy culotte/skirt things in Asda and some black troos in New Look, no point spending loads of dosh. Having spent the last week turning up at meetings with clients looking like I was wearing something I found on the tube on the way there I realised I had to bite the bullet. HATE this in between stage before bump when you just look like uve eaten all the pies....

PLUS one of my hold ups REFUSED to stick to my leg on my way up to London on Friday and spent the whole day looking for loos to yank it up again, so embrassing I kept looking down and seeing it languishing by my knee, i wasn't going for the Nora Batty look.

talking of births - HC I am also hoping this one is easier. DS was out after 27 hours, an epidural, ventouse, constant sickness and generally a bit of a nightmare.....it's amazing how the mind forgets.....

Busy week at work approaching again, sigh, so will catch up when I can.

Blossom

Wallace · 22/01/2006 19:23

Let's not talk about the birth yet please!

When I was in labour with dd they made me get out of the birthing pool because they thought the baby was coming(hospital policy), and at one point I clearly remember them telling me that she would be born by 3am...she wasn't born until 6ish (can't beleive I've forgotten the time!). That's a lot of pushing!

AggiePanther · 22/01/2006 20:44

Evening ladies and welcome to all the new people

Re having a drink --- Am enjoying a small glass of red at the moment .. everything in moderation I reckon...but for those of you looking for an alternative have a look at this thread that I started

Kathryn - get back to where you belong!!
Seriously though it was no problem ...although now you have called me 'old' I shall not be speaking to you again

bumpybel · 22/01/2006 21:06

Evening all... Dh is glued to some Gwent Dragons replay so I'm taking the opportunity of logging in!

Iamblossom, you made me laugh out loud with your 'eaten all the pies' comment! Thats EXACTLY how i feel... and i AM eating all the pies also! I cant wait to start looking properly pregnant! I'm nudging into maternity clothes, but still trying to use whats left of the things that i can still breathe in from my 'normal wardrobe'! The problem is that the mat clothes are ridiculously huge and my normal clothes leave big red lines on my tummy!

Puddytat, happy birthday for tommorrow. Your job sounds lovely, all happy and caring. I'm being looked after in work, but in the sense that i cant leave the office or do anything remotely interesting!

usandbump... you poor thing. I get very distressed if i cant sleep for one night, let alone a run of nights. Are you eating anything before you go to bed? Or drinking plenty? I find it hard to sleep if i'm hungry or thirsty.

HC, I did the test and the first time it didnt move, then the next three times it went side to side. Was that a boy or a girl again? I dont know if i affected it though, by trying to make it move!

mgm · 22/01/2006 21:37

Evening all. Thanks for the welcome's. I had a scan on the 13th jan and have my 20wk scan booked on the 9th march. I can't wait. I'm still feeling sicky unfortunatly , I'm hoping it will ease off soon!. My dd was a winter baby so I'm looking forward to a summer one this time

maewest · 22/01/2006 22:03

second that bumpybel - when do I get past the just looking 'a bit fat' stage?

16 + 2 today. We must now all be over the dreaded 12 weeks Her is to happy healthy babies for all of us

jersey · 24/01/2006 09:06

Morning eveyone, welcome to the new comers.

Just had friday and monday off work to rest, which I managed on friday, but as now might be moving house spent yesterday cleaning the house and carpets for a valuation!

Have been told I look pregnant now and not just fat as my DH so kindly put it . Have bought a pram as need a double with DS will only just be 2 if this one arrives on time. Got this earlier than planned but it was a bargin on ebay so couldn't turn it down.

Waiting until after next scan in march to see if its a boy or girl before going shopping as still have all of DS stuff in the loft.

Speak to you all later, suppose I should do some work .

AggiePanther · 24/01/2006 16:10

Afternoon all.
Ugh ..Am poorly sick today ...spent the night throwing up..think I've caught bug that dd and all the neighbours have had +o(
I'm sure I was reassuring someone last week about this ...but could you all just reassure me that a stomach bug won't harm the baby ...am in 'worst case scenario land' at the moment.
