Laura - Sorry to hear about your news . Fingers crossed everything will work out fine .

I've had 3 midwife appointments, the first one was just to meet the lady. I've only had 2 scans, no more for me , a dating scan early on and a scan to check for problems when I was 20 weeks. Luckily for me apart for baby having longer than average legs (after DH) everything seems ok.

Diddle - DH has been working on nursery for last two weeks . We have taken some fixed wardrobes out and had the walls skimmed. He started painting at the weekend. I can't wait for it to be finished so I can start to buy things like a woman possessed .

mrsbabookaloo - think I will breastfeed, if it goes ok, for the first six months then look at moving baby onto formula. Some of you probably think I am selfish but I would like to get a little independence back (I know it's only a little) but I also don't know when I will be going back to work. It could be anytime from 6 to 12 months depending on money.

Dana · 21/02/2006 09:25

Laura, fingers crossed that baby's kidney goes back to normal before the next scan. Sorry that you have this extra worry.
I have my 2nd appointment with the m/w on the 22nd March when I am 28 weeks. Last one was on the 21st December. After the next one, I think she will see me once a month though.

Vbab, the recommendation is to exclusively breast feed until 6 months, but any amount counts. With DS I b/f until 5 months when I went back to work. At that time I started on solids and he had formula when I was at work (never got the hang of expressing) and I continued to b/f morning and evening (and night ) until he was 14 months. We struggled for a week to get him to accept the bottle, but after that no problems at all.
This time I have 10 months maternity leave and plan to b/f for at least that time.
I did suffer constant cracked nipples, thrush and bouts of mastitis during the first couple of months, but I carried on and ended up really enjoying it.
I also joined a breast feeding group, arranged by the local health visitors. So once a week about 10 of us, all b/f our new babies, would meet up to share our struggles, worries and successes. I found this a great support in the early days.
Sorry, I could go on about this for ages .

Trinity, I have days where I hardly feel the baby, but he usually picks up again after a day or two. Think it also depends on the positioning eg. if he lies with his back against my tummy he is kicking against my back which I can't feel.

We have got most of the baby stuff from last time, just buying a pram, which we will order soon as it can take a long time.

slinkstah · 21/02/2006 12:54

hiya all,
wanted to let you all know my experiences of bf. i was desperate to bf my ds and i did for 6 weeks solidly although it didn't go so well and he kept pulling off and screaming with wind etc and this made me more and more stressed and i ended up giving up.
i had no intention of bf my dd although after she was born after she had sussed her surroundings she got grissly, there was no midwife around so i just plonked her on my boob to stop her crying. it worked straight away and she marathon fed for about 24 hours! which made me very sore. i ended up giving her a bottle to give me a break a few mights later but nipple soreness went and i then bf for well over a year and it was brill, i did however feel uncomfortable whilst i was out in public, but keeping bottles at right temperature and then warming them up etc and steralising when baby wants it NOW is much more of a nightmare.
am not an breast activist either just thought i had both sides of story kinda experience i think its all personal choice all the advice i can give is don't stress about it, if it doesn't work so well don't worry.

diddlydid- i would go for it, what colours have you chosen for your nursery? i have been looking online at stuff and have priced up the initial outlay which came to a grand which i don't thinks too bad as i have been quite frivulous on some stuff, i have no nursery either just a corner of my room which will have to do until we move to a bigger house

laura- fingers crossed kidney will be back to normal by next scan

diddle · 21/02/2006 13:32

slink - i'm looking forward to breastfeeding and hope it goes well, will be so much eaise ri hope that bottle feeding and getting loads of bottles made up all the time etc. Plus i'll be at home with baby so it will be easy for me to carry on till its well past 6 months.

We have chosen the millie and boris range on mamas and papas i couldn't do a link righ to it because their website keeps goign weird today.
Its a light creamy colour with cute bunnies and bears on it.

BABY2 · 21/02/2006 13:59

vbab78-- I wanted to brestfeed DS and leave hospital asap after birth. DS was born at 4am and the midwife (or what ever they are in the hospital) said that DS didnt want feeding or he would be crying, so told me not to try!!!!

it was nearley 24 hours before i told her that i was going to try feeding him and go home as i had had enough and wanted to go home, they were no help just told me to try if i wanted and left. I went home that evening not knowing if i was doing it right.
My midwife came the following day, she said i was doing it right. A day or two later i was very sore and stoped and went on to bottles, this time i am not sure if i am even going to try it

Diddel-- I have only bought a coulpe of baby grows and little suits at the moment, but at the weekend i did go to mothercare and open a nursery plan and put down the deposit for a cot bed matress and pushchair. Ds is now out in a "propper" bed. I have everything else left to buy.
(after ds was born i didn't want anymore so as soon as he out grew something it went to the charity shop)

Laura-- hope the next scan goes well.

I have seen the midwife 3 times so far (first time was the booking) and have only had one scan!! Next appointment is at the beginig of march

KathrynWales · 21/02/2006 15:28

Hello All,

Given the inflating size of my boobs at the mo, I think I could quite happily breastfeed my baby and all of yours too... I bf Teenage daughter for 2 weeks (when she was a baby...not recently! Sicko!) but developed mastitis and it felt like nipples were clamped in bulldog clips. Breast pump produced pink milk. It put me off strawberry milkshake for life. Went onto formula and daughter has turned out fine (although my boobs did deflate at a rapid rate and before this current pregnancy resembled two empty scrotums...) Now they are back to Jordan standards and I intend to try bf again with new Baby when he appears in sunny June.

As for Trinity... my baby is having busy and quiet days too. Some days he feels like he is break dancing and some days he lies around not doing much at all. (Think this must reflect the fact that baby's dad is athletic honed person who actually can be bothered to go to the gym whereas I have a degree in lying on the sofa. I think baby has therefore inherited both traits and likes to take turns... )

I guess a few months down the line you will be wishing your baby would keep still and stop using your ribs for kick boxing, so we can never win, can we?

Sorry to hear about your baby's kidney, Laura.
I watched a tv programme the other day about a similar problem and the little one turned out just fine. Plus, A friend of mine has only ever had one kidney and she is a mad, busy, happy and healthy dynamo! Am sure it will be fine x

Well girls, am off to write a bit more on my book so that I can live in a big house, hire a personal trainer and afford botox. Face and body are currently competing in the 'looking like a 50 year old' stakes. Teenage daughter had young mum who still possessed mini skirts. This baby will have old fogey mum who will embarass him on school runs and wear sensible shoes. Need best seller to combat this with total body overhaul to save his trauma. A woman's work is never done... x

bumpinsheffield · 21/02/2006 15:28

hello all, first post.

My stats are
me 28
dp 44
ds 6
dd 2
25 weeks just, DD 6/6/06!!

Feeling really big at the moment and wearing my first set of maternity clothes as I couldn't get my jeans on at all, open or not! My belly button has turned inside out which is weird cos now I look like I have a third nipple under my top. lol. I recently has a varacoise(sp) vein come out behind my left knee. It's really unsightly, very blue, bruised and there is a big lump there as well. Trying to feel at all attractive is hard enough at the moment without looking like I have a 70yr olds legs!

bubbly1973 · 21/02/2006 15:57

welcome to the june group bumpinsheffield!

KathrynWales · 21/02/2006 16:09

Welcome bump!

Another baby due 6/6/6 (cue scary organ music and flashing lightning...)

Am sure he / she will be beautiful bouncing baby and not at all the son of the devil, but just in case, avoid names like Damian...my nerves couldnt take it....

Incidentally, once saw a fortune teller who told me I would have a son who would become a world leader. My baby is due 21/6 but if he comes early, you have been warned, dear readers....

Glad you have joined the Junies Club. Don't worry about being unattractive. Do what I do, and hide indoors in a large dressing gown, only to emerge mid summer as a vision of loveliness, back in size 8 jeans five days after giving birth....

xx

ChaCha · 21/02/2006 19:29

Diddle

I've been meaning to post on here for ages to see how you've been doing. Finding that I don't have as much time to post on MN these days as I used to (and how I used to complain that maternity leave was boring )

How many weeks are you now? Are you still working?

Look after yourself, will be popping in again

ChaCha & Z (11 wks)

BABY2 · 21/02/2006 20:43

bumpinsheffield-- hello and welcome

kathryn-- Hope the book is coming on ok.

diddle · 22/02/2006 08:05

welcome bump in sheffield - i think we're all feeling pretty unnatrative at the moment I know i am, now that my double chin is emerging, i'm very conscious of it.

Had a good evening last ngith, went and ordered our furniture for the nursery, can't wait for it to come, it will take 4 weeks though, plenty of time to get the papering done. I was also tempted by a cute little outfit, so we've got a set too. How exciting

bumpinsheffield · 22/02/2006 11:31

Thanks all for the warm welcome.
It was nice to read that some of you are experiencing some of the things I have worried about. Even though its my third you forget what the others were like and they have all seemed different. I started having braxton hicks a couple of weeks ago and having had a scare with early labour last time I panicked, good to know I'm "normal"!
Going back to the breastfeeding topic, I bf both my ds and dd for a year and found it really convinient and not at all difficult but I had it set in my mind that that was what I was going to do and I persevered through the difficult first days when your still learning how, I think once you have the knack its simple and so much easier than having to heat botttles, especially in the middle of the night. Or maybe I'm just lazy and the thought of having to do downstairs to faf at that time just put me off!
The other great advantage of bf of course is you get to keep the amazing cleavage you develop but which soon becomes overshadowed by the enormous bump. Bf for a little while and you have DD cleavage and a flat stomach with no surgery required (unless of course you count the c-section) lol

Kathryn, what is the book about? fact or fiction, have you had anything published, try to write myself but finding it difficult at the minute.

juice · 22/02/2006 20:05

so how much weight have we all put on
me - 8kg
feel huge although its mostly all bump and boobies, which dh loves. i aint put on as much weight round bum as i did with dd.

vbab78 · 22/02/2006 21:07

At my 24 week appointment last week I had put on 4.5kg (9.9lb) since the start of the pregnancy. My bump is (apparently) average size of 24cm. Does make me worry about baby's legs being squashed because they are meant to be long.

I feel bigger though. My back has begun to ache this week and I've been having more of what I think are growing pains, so it may all change quickly.

diddle · 23/02/2006 08:10

well i have gained about 8 or 9 lbs since i got pregnant, which i don't think is too bad, it feels like more. It is mainly bump and boobs and a bit on my face. bump is quite forward facing, i'm not gaining all the way round, my bum is the same as always which is great.

I'm 25 weeks today thrilled to be this far, terrified that i only have 15 wks left Seeing the midwife next Thursday and then having a 4d scan a week on saturday, can't wait to see baby again.

KathrynWales · 23/02/2006 10:32

Hmm.....9lbs weight gain???!!!

I now feel like a right pudding....

I have put on 16 lbs (was slinky size 10 and now resemble Asia.)

And what's this about your bum not changing?
Mine sticks out so much I resemble a pantomime horse.

You are clearly not eating enough pies, ladies. Get scoffing at once and make me feel better

bubbly1973 · 23/02/2006 11:23

kathrynwales, if it makes you feel better, before getting pregnant i was 7andhalf stone, im now a few pounds shy of 10stone!!

yes im eatting a lot, but not sure if its cos im pg or if its cos i gave up smoking!

trinity1 · 23/02/2006 17:18

Lost a stone at beginning of pregnancy due to morning sickness, have gained that back plus 7lb. Is all boobs and a bit of bump (but mostly boobs!) Have to buy maternity bras from bravissimo and figleaves now as high street shops don't stock my size! Cravings don't help though - having gone through the potatoes and apple doughnuts phase, am now crazy about fruit cocktail trifle!

When I whinged to DP about how much weight I'd put on, instead of replying with a lovely compliment, he said 'well, you can go back to the gym after the baby's born, can't you?' - very helpful. Cue very dirty look!

Dana · 23/02/2006 17:19

Welcome bumpinsheffield!

Have gained about 1 stone so far. Mostly on tummy and boobs, but also a bit on bum and thighs - but that is probably more due to lack of exercise than being pg. Last time I put on 2½ stone but had lost it all and some more by the time I went back to work, so as long as I don't gain more than that I am happy.

Seen my sister today for the first time since last summer. She lives in Spain and even though we speak often on the phone it is not the same, so it was really nice. Had the day of work as well .

trinity1 · 23/02/2006 17:21

ps - am 25 weeks tomorrow - getting so excited but also very nervous. Think the reality of it is really starting to hit me now.

Dana · 23/02/2006 17:29

Trinity, that is what my DH is like. He keeps saying things like: "If that's the size you are at 5 months, I can't imagine how big you'll be at 9 months!!" or "Think you must be as big now as you were at full term with DS". Does wonderful things for your self esteem, doesn't it?

trinity1 · 23/02/2006 18:01

Dana - don't think DP means for it to sound like a blatant insult in the way it comes across. He thinks he's being helpful but he just has a very bad case of 'foot in mouth disease' sometimes!

trinity1 · 23/02/2006 18:05

......then again, it doesn't help when I feel like a big fat (albeit pregnant with what we're told is DD) piggy and he's displaying a six-pack either!

Dana · 23/02/2006 19:29

Don't think my DH means to cause any offence either. He just says what he thinks. Just not very helpful when feeling all fat and unattractive.

btw, I am getting very excited too. Really can't wait to see this baby and to have a little new born again. Think I have convieniently forgot about all the tough times with DS and just remember all the lovely things. Probably just as well.
