Hello all,

Well my boobs have hit an all time high today! 39 D !!!!! (I am normally a 34A saddo... )

Ok, so I am permanently in baggy jogging bottoms, and my bump is 35 inches too and therefore kind of eclipses the 'assets' but what the hell...am clutching at anything that will make me feel like super sensuous sexy diva woman...

Am having a paranoid moment though. Has anyone been getting a 'tightening' across their tummy? Thought I was a bit early for Braxton Hicks... (21+ 5) Tummy goes rock hard fairly low down for a few minutes and is a bit tender, and then goes back to normal again. (have fear I am in fact carrying alien from planet Zog who will emerge in June and take over world. Please reassure me you are all having this funny tummy too???)

ah thats the thing i was thinking of last night..'splints'

whats the funniest thing said to you whilst being pregnant?..yesterday whilst in the park, an elderly lady asked me when im due, so i told her and she replied 'bloody hell, are you carrying an elephant'

found that quite funny as usually i get the 'you sure your not having twins'

i seem to be huge i hope its not all baby, it has to come out at some point..ouch!

PomsMum · 12/02/2006 19:58

VBab - Sorry wasn't watching the thread - Onelife nappies - we have a local supplier (Petersfield) but you can get them from the internet, just search on Onelife Nappies!

Laura032004 · 12/02/2006 20:45

No experience of the carpal tunnel syndrome, but I'm getting the tightenings too Kathryn. Usually when I strain myself a bit picking up ds, I presume it's my bodies way of telling me off!

Waswondering - I'm planning on just using Tots and ME Airflow wraps with this baby, mainly because DH feels comfortable with them. I did have a few other sorts, but I've sold them off over the last few months, and bumped up my stock of Tots. I've now got 16 size 1's, and 40 or so size 2's so between ds and the new baby, I should have plenty. I wonder how many times ds will get squidged into a size 1 by DH though

I am one of those very sad people who love to see their nappies on the washing line. I get a real feeling of satisfaction from it, and they must all be hung in the same way . I'll even hang them out if it's not very sunny, as they still get bleached nice and white on a cloudy day, and even rain water is good for them.

I used to have quite a lot of pastel Tots, but I sold them as I didn't like the fact that they weren't as thick as the u/b Tots, and ds is quite a heavy weeer. I've still got some ME Multifit though, which are like MEOS but with velcro instead of poppers, and they have elasticated legs, which are nice and slim for when he's wearing jeans. I got rid of all my fleece wraps, as I didn't like the bobbles on my nice white nappies . They were good though, so I might try and get a few white ones. I never liked Tots white wraps - I always found they wicked a bit, but I haven't tried any of the new ones. I daren't try the bamboozles, as I'm scared I might like them , but I've heard they're good in that they don't dry crispy like Tots can if they're not tumbled.

Sorry to anybody not interested in cloth nappies by the way!

With regards to weight, I weighed myself at a friends on Friday, and I've put on 6lbs since I got pg. That's about the same as last pg though, and I still put on at least 4st by the end, so plenty of time yet! My bump has just exploded these past few weeks though - people are really noticing it now, and are surprised that I've got until June to go!

for the mums who are now a bit laxydazy about how many weeks they are, or just want to know what the baby is doing/growing, this site is brilliant.

if i havent been able to come online or a few weeks have whizzed by, i get muddled up about the weeks, so save me having to count down, i just go on this site and it tells me, if any of you got any good websites about baby growing, id love to see a link

pregnancy calender

vbab78 · 13/02/2006 07:57

waswondering & laura - thanks for all the help. It has made me feel really good that there are others that use or want to use reusable nappies as I didn't know anyone before that did. I felt a bit weird and some of the looks I get even off my mother in law!

I think I may have got to 90% of a decision regarding whether to do the reusable thing and which nappies. This is good news for laura who now may be able to get other things done than answer my questions all day .

Going to use disposables for the first couple of weeks while I get used to being a parent and also to see how big my baby is and potentially how many nappies I will need. I will then put in an order with the nappy lady whom I wish to add has also been fantastic.

Bubbly - I use this website often for pregnancy calendar www.babycentre.co.uk/calendar/getinfo?_requestid=10547. Also look at www.bounty.com/Pregnancy/Timeline/BabyScans/default.asp for baby scans some are 4D.

diddle · 13/02/2006 07:58

Kathrynwales - I've read somewhere that our uterus starts contracting from around 6 wks, althoughw e don't notice it. when i wake up in the morning sometimes mine is hard and definitly contracting then relaxes.

Although sometimes its just hard because baby is all squished at the top or bottom.

diddle · 13/02/2006 08:02

tried that pregnancy calc and Kathrynwales it says that this week i may be experiencing braxton hicks so maybe its not too early!

KathrynWales · 13/02/2006 09:55

Thanks Diddle and Laura. No longer feel like I am a weirdo! Well, on the tummy issue anyway....

have been reading all the 'nappy' posts and have come to the realisation that I am an eco disaster and a lazy woman to boot. Am definitely going to use disposables... (cue lots of people throwing cabbages at me...)

Dana · 13/02/2006 10:17

Kathryn, I am with you on the nappy issue. Finding it hard enough to keep on top of the washing as it is without adding more. But I am pretty eco-friendly in most other ways, so don't feel too bad about it.
Btw, I am getting tightenings in my tummy as well, which I think are Braxton Hicks - I am 23 weeks.

I have put on about 10lbs now and bump is absolutely huge. I think I will end up whale size by the end of this pregnancy. I also seem to have noticed a couple of new stretch marks .

Things are pretty ok here at the moment. Though my mum has obviously not made a miraculous recovery, they have managed to find a good balance with her medicines so that she is feeling quite well and is really positive at the moment. Think one of the worst thing just now is the hairloss. She has had one chemo treatment and already it is falling out in big chunks. Suppose it is just part of the game...

abbey1515 · 13/02/2006 12:49

Dana, glad your mum is feeling positive, it must be a tough time for you all.

I have huge bump too- sleeping is becoming difficult, I seem to wake every hour, and am having trouble breathing. Unfortunatley this has led to snoring, and DH has to keep waking me to get me to shut up-most unglamorous, am not doing this yummymummy thing v. well!

Laura, am getting very excited about nappy issue now. Why do you prefer nippa fastening to aplix?

Dana · 13/02/2006 14:25

Abbey, I know what you mean about sleeping difficulties. I used to always sleep on my front, but have been getting by with sleeping on my back the last few months. Now that is no longer an option, I am finding it difficult to get comfortable. I keep waking up because I am either rolling on to the bump - ouchh, or rolling on to my back and can't breathe. Not sure if I snore though. DH sleeps through most things, so probably wouldn't notice .

BABY2 · 13/02/2006 20:49

kathrynwales and dana- I am glad you say you are useing disposable's I was starting to think i was the only person who was.

And i too am having difficulties sleeping, my long pillow from blooming marvolus came on saturday and it does help untill i am asleep and roll on to my back, then i wake up in pain and carnt lay down again for half an hour.

abbey1515 · 14/02/2006 09:48

I use that pillow and tuck the bottom half between my knees with the middle bit supporting the bump, to try to keep myself lying on my side. But then I wake up in the middle of the night lying on my back, with the pillow still between my knees, so now coming over the top of my bump and face! It frightens me every time!

Laura032004 · 14/02/2006 12:54

I wouldn't worry too much about not using cloth nappies, I'm not at all eco-friendly in other ways . Although I do try and tell myself that my dishwasher is more eco-friendly than washing up by hand, I know my tumble drier isn't! Babies are hard work, and you need to do whatever makes life easiest for you. That said they don't seem an issue in the way that my washing pile is. The nappies have to get done, whereas I can easily ignore my washing pile if I'm having a bad day

Dana - glad to hear that they've found a good medicine regime for your mum, but sorry that they need to

abbey1515 - I prefer nippa nappies as they are more adjustable in terms of size so you can use them across a wider weight range. It's a lot easier to put a nippa size 2 Tots on a newborn than an applix version. Also, with the applix ones you have to ensure that the tabs are turned back on themselves, or they stick to other things in the wash and your applix (same as velcro really) doesn't stay 'sticky' for as long.

Having a lot of trouble sleeping now, not helped by ds who is currently waking lots of times during the night (last night he was awake from midnight to about 5am!), and a dog who isn't much better. That combined with really vivid dreams that wake me up as well mean I seem to spend more time awake than asleep DS is asleep now though, so I'm going to sneak an hours sleep on the sofa

KathrynWales · 14/02/2006 13:38

Dana sorry to hear about your mum. Hope her treatment helps x

Abbey your pillow trying to attack you made me laugh
Am having my own sleep traumas too..
Woke myself up in the night by SNORING!!!!!!!! This wasn't some little snuffle, ladies. Oh noooooooo. Was full on snort at high velocity. Am turning into unglamorous big bellied woman who snores like a bull elephant and will never be sexy again...

Am also getting red blotches on my chest that resemble a wino's nose and have now had to dab concealer on them incase someone thinks I have the mange.

Therefore, Tuesday morning routine now goes like this:

*Wake self up with gargantuan snort
*Drink decaff coffee and feel like zombie
*Send teenage daughter off to school whilst envying her size 8 figure and glossy hair
*Put on velour tracksuit which makes me look like fat version of Wayne Rooney's gf
*Put make up on chest blotches and use wrinkle cream (which incidentally, Claudia Bloody Schiffer, isn't working)
*Head off to garage to buy Heat magazine full of trendy pregnant women
*Get ignored at garage by group of hunky men
*Come home. Read Heat.
*Try to emulate glamorous celebrity lifestyle whilst washing pots and hoovering.
*Spend ten minutes admiring new pram
*Spend 1 hr 30 mins trying to understand new car seat base instructions
*Give up and log into Mumsnet.

Repeat this chant after me:

"I am a glamorous 30 something pregnant woman who revels in her maternal glow."

abbey1515 · 14/02/2006 14:49

Kathryn, am snoring badly too- is so humiliating. I woke myself up in the middle of the night last night with a huge snore/ choke/ grunt only to find DH sat upright staring at me in disbelief- apparently had been doing it for at least half an hour.
Plus, am finding myself having a conversation with friends then suddenly realising have already said this just half an hour ago and then having to apologise for dementia. I've begged them to tell me straight away instead of just nodding politely.
Have you seen Sienna and her mum in this week's Heat? am definitley resembling her mum nowadays (and will only hit 30 this year!)

diddle · 14/02/2006 16:00

you lot keep me smiling, Kathryn as always you are hilarious, abbey, have a fab image of your DH sitting there next to you, wondering hwo to stop the snoring.
I have no idea if i am snoring, Dh hasn't commented and if i ask him he;d say Yes anyway. Definitly not sleeping well though, can't stay asleep for long enough, and i'm never comfy.

KathrynWales · 14/02/2006 16:07

diddle You are definitely snoring. trust me on this. I am not alone in my revoltingness. (please God...)

bubbly1973 · 14/02/2006 20:27

dana, my aunt had to go through hairloss, lucky for her, her hairdresser took her to one of the high street stores and helped her find a really good wig, infact it didnt look like a wig when she put it on, its surprising how good they make them now!!

so perhaps you could suggest to your mother about trying on a few? she may find that she quite likes them once she knows they are a good fit?

well i seem to have completly blanked this part out from my last pregnancy but it all came back to me last night....when i lie down, and im nearly asleep, its almost like my reflexes for my stomach and throat open up cos what ever ive eaten up to 2hours before comes up

take last night for eg...had a cup of tea (half a tea at that!)...and just before getting into a good sleep i was pouring the tea out of my nose (felt like a right teapot!)

then tonight, lying on bed with ds, and i could feel it wanting to come up, but cos i was wide awake my reflexes stopped this from happening!

has any one else experienced this? its horrible!

on the nappy front, i like the thought of white nappies hanging out in a row on my line, but i like the thought of disposables even better!

diddle · 15/02/2006 08:10

Morning all - had a bad nights sleep aagin, kept waking up, then had a horrible dream that DH was going to leave me, anyone else subconsciously worried about being left all alone with a baby to care for? must be pregnancy paranoia. I hate it, and to make it worse, when i woke up in a state DH wasn't in bed with me, he couldn't sleep and had got up for a bit. I was beside myself. damn hormones!

vbab78 · 15/02/2006 09:03

diddle - that sounds horrible. I've been suffering from pregnancy paranoia. I know it's silly and my dh reassures me all the time but I just don't feel good enough for my DH. I wonder if this is at the bottom of my slight depression? I agree bloody hormones!

I should be happy. DH is amazing and supportive (the majority of the time), so far no problems at all in my pregnancy, no sickness or anything, DH is busy sorting out the nursery. I just hope this is hormones.

My sleep pattern has been on and off to be honest, getting more uncomfortable with time. Had a great night's sleep last night though. I slept propped up on my back (don't know if you are meant to).

On a good note I am in my 25th week today (24 +1)!

LilacBump · 15/02/2006 11:16

i had a checkup with the midwife yesterday and all is well. blood pressure is back to normal. i mentioned all the nosebleeds, faintness, braxton hicks and carpal tunnel i've been having with a big sigh as i knew she'd tell me they are all normal things in pregnancy i have to put up with. it was nice to have a moan anyway baby keeps kicking low down on my bladder and such... NOT pleasant! i find myself jumping every time he does it.
we're off on holiday on saturday. i am a bit anxious in case something goes wrong, not to mention the prospect of being in the car for 6 hours and 2 hours on the ferry. DP is preparing himself to stop every 15 minutes for a loo break.

take care and see you next week sometime
