Hopefully no one else has done it while my phone is messing about!

I think we're all watching all the same threads Grin. I've done no bloody work all day.

Now have to go and pick up 4 hyper little girls from school (both DDs having friends round - how did I let myself in for that??). But later on am going baby shopping for a few bits and bobs so that will drop DH in it give me a nice bit of de-stress time (evil Grin)

Hope your day was great Moobee and any others leaving work (Mum2be?)... I am still up to my ears in work.

shonnomanom · 02/12/2011 15:01

Just been to the physio who told me that pgp sufferers who have a cs are less likely to have a pelvis issues post natal than those who have a vb. Apparently to do with the fact that cs mothers are a lot more careful afterwards...

addictediam · 02/12/2011 16:15

Ooo shon I had a physio appointment today too! I have a bump band, crutches, a list of exercises and instructions not to lift dd Xmas Hmm I just laughed and asked if he wanted to tell her that! He agreed it would be impossible not to lift a 12 month old so just to take it easy with her.

I hope you're all having a nice day lovely ladies Grin

Oeisha · 02/12/2011 16:42

cakes and red try adding lactulose 3 times a day to your diet... Hmm

Congrats to all the last-dayers!

Ergh, supposed to be tidying...just don't have any energy today. Feel sicky too. Ah well.

I had some sock-ons arrive in the post yesterday. Lef them on sofa. Dh sees them... "why are you buying Abi fetishwear???" Confused
...the name of the product obv. wasn't enough! Wink

knittiekitty · 02/12/2011 17:19

I've been on mat leave for a whole week yay, but appear to have spent most of it dozing on the sofa! Not quite the whirlwind of jobs completed and mnetting that I'd lined up but my GD readings are so much lower, the rest must be doing us good. I even managed some sneaky bits of wholemeal (cardboard) low-sugar shortbread that I made, without it raising my count.

I've been trying to catch up and am sorry to hear of the niggles, esp poor Zoe, I hope you're mending quickly.

Greenlady I love my heated airer, hope yours is going well. I put an old kingsize duvet cover that I was given years ago over it to speed up drying. It is a revolting 80s pattern of dark and lime green so looks like a strange tardis, but it really helps.

I have appt with consultant and diabetes MW next week (after another scan) to decide delivery strategy. I had shoulder dystocia complications with my 'normal' sized DD, so I'm thinking a CS might be safest this time. My 97th centile baby measured approx 7lb nearly 2 weeks ago and my stretch marks are really sore, I'm huge. Does anyone else get strangers commenting on size of bump? I didn't get it last time and can't decide if it's because I really am weirdly huge, or just look more approachable. I didn't get stretch marks last time either Xmas Sad.
The appt is the same time as DD's first nativity play at school so I'll miss it as appt couldn't be changed. Another mum is recording it for me and DH will go instead but I'm gutted to miss out. I don't think DD is unduly worried, but the songs she's singing are mostly about breakfast at the inn so I'm really curious to discover the Christmas link!

fishandlilacs · 02/12/2011 17:20

woohoo, finished work. Twas lovely. Did some nice art and had to pose for some life studies. :)

DH and I were at hospital for 3 hours today, bubs is now out of breech, BUT he weighs somewhere in the region of 6.5 lb now SHIT ME!

My consultant and I have written a very stringent birth plan and c section is booked for 18 th Jan which is my DH's 40th birthday. EDD still 11th but this gives me time to start naturally.

Right off to pay my gorgeous DD some attention because shes being all cute and lovely.

GiraffeAHolic · 02/12/2011 17:29

well...................that was an interesting day Hmm

My quick 9:30am appointment with the hospital consultant about the possible genetic issues resulted in me finally leaving the place at 2:30pm.

I saw, a nurse, a registrar, a consultant.

I walked from one end of a large university hospital to the other for an unplanned ECG and all the way back again.

ECG looked ok but was marked 'borderline'.

Will hear from maternal cardiologist on Monday whether I need a heart scan.

Oh and the "best" bit: Consultant is strongly advising against a homebirth, but...... wait for it..... for reasons not at all connected with the genetics thing that I went about. He read my notes and saw about my PPH last time and started doing that shaking head and tutting thing.

May have to compromise on Midwife-led-Birthing-Unit. Which I think I'm ok with.

The cash machine in the part of the hospital where I was didn't work, had to walk back across the hospital grounds to find the equivalent ATM on the other side. That worked but then, of course, the car park machine didn't take notes so had to find the shop (which was WHSmiths?!) and buy something to get change.

Was meant to pick dd up from nursery at 12:30 so had to keep sending dh off to make phone calls to arrange someone to collect her and look after her.

Oh. My. God.

knittiekitty · 02/12/2011 17:39

Fish Do you think its worse having some idea how huge bubba is likely to be? I can't decide as presumably it's still going to be uncomfortable whatever size comes out (assuming no c-section that is). I was quite calm until they started telling me size estimates and can't stop thinking about it now. Great that he's not breech any longer!
Giraffe the two birth units I've seen looked lovely, very calm atmosphere with big baths and ceiling sling thingys. Sounds like you need a soothing foot massage tonight to recover from all that traipsing.

Mum2be79 · 02/12/2011 17:55

FINISHED WORK TODAY!!!!!

9 months of no teaching. The bag, planning folder and memory sticks have been put away. Got lots of presents from staff, parents and kids. Haven't opened them yet as waiting for after tea.

Nanny01 · 02/12/2011 18:10

Welcome home to all you new on maternity leave put your feet up and join me for a metaphorical cup of Costa coffee. O now thats an idea!

DeeOfTheNorth · 02/12/2011 18:37

I finished work today too!!! [hgrin]

Unfortunately have to go back in on monday for interview for a promotion Xmas Sad. Am a bit pissed off they didn't get their act together and sort this earlier but still...once that's over I'm freeeeee........

redheadbedhead · 02/12/2011 19:51

what a day Giraffe!!! I am strongly thinking of MLUs now as well, definitely worth checking a few different hospitals though - I went to one slightly further away the other day and it was a paradise compared to my local hospital! and they had loads more pools and comfy rooms...

SlightlyScrambled · 02/12/2011 20:19

Marking my place here on this shiny new thread. Took me two days to get through all the messages and I can't remember what I wanted to add now.

Yay for all of you who have started your mat leave.

And wow to Supa for doing a spreadsheet on the clothes. Don't imagine I'd ever enjoy spreadsheets that much. I'm doing well to just get a chance on t'interweb without a squeal beside me demanding to watch videos.

But the sizes do vary ridiculously between brands. I don't trust them at all.

Off to bed now with a good dollop of gaviscon.

redheadbedhead · 02/12/2011 21:22

ok ladies who have had babies before.... anyone had a REALLY WRIGGLY one? I mean, full on pretty much non stop all day wriggly? I am worried for it's sanity and safety, keep thinking it's going to get wrapped up in it's cord it's so wriggly Confused

and what the hell is it going to be like when it comes out?? Is it ever going to go to sleep? ever? am i going to have to train it how to lie down and be quiet?

It stops wriggling for maybe 10 mins at a time. Maybe 3 times a day. That's IT.

fishandlilacs · 02/12/2011 21:24

knittie To answer your question-not in my case no, knowledge of babies size has been a huge factor in deciding my birth plan but thats because of the previous complications I had.
BUT If it was my first time then I think it's fairly arbitrary information. The baby will born one of 2 ways and that depends on so many factors it's unbelieveable. Even the most fantastic text book birthing can end in c section if the babies cord prolapses or is wrapped around neck for example. Weight has little or no bearing on it really-my baby was big but then i am big-yet i have narrow birth canal passage-I may look like I have "childbearing hips" from the outside but honestly most of that is ice cream and cornish pasties :) Inside the bones are big and the path is narrow.
scans have a 10% variation in accuracy anyway.

fishandlilacs · 02/12/2011 21:28

redhead yup my dd was a wiggler, she is still called wiggles as a nickname today. This one is the same. He's always on the move too.

fishandlilacs · 02/12/2011 21:31

the wiggles don't just happen when they are awake in there-they are asleep for more time than awake in the womb just like newborns. They move through sleep too.

rednosedreindeerhead · 02/12/2011 21:31

as long as it's normal and it won't be some kind of crazed beast when it comes out then Grin

rednosedreindeerhead · 02/12/2011 21:32

fish you thought of your xmas name yet? as you can see I have decided to start sporting mine Grin

fishandlilacs · 02/12/2011 21:32

From Wiki: Active and quiet periods for the fetus do not correspond to those of the mother; fetuses are most active from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. During the last four to six weeks before birth, most of the fetuses' kicking and jabbing movements occur while it is sleeping lightly.

Moobee · 02/12/2011 21:36

Wow giraffe I hope that was useful overall for you at least. MLU sounds like a good compromise.

I also finished work today - I don't go back for 10 months! I don't think it's quite sunk in yet...

My baby really isn't that wriggly. They have a mild bop about in the morning, mid afternoon and then after dinner, but nothing that excessive. They sometimes miss out one of those entirely (usually the morning or afternoon). If anything I'd like them to move more, but they move enough to be reassuring.

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 02/12/2011 21:36

ta da......

:)

mulledfishandfrostedlilacs · 02/12/2011 21:38

were a quarter opf the way thru this thread already :) It's only a few days old!

rednosedreindeerhead · 02/12/2011 21:39

yeah i guess it's reassuring....in a way.... but also kind of freaky and sometimes I just hope it's alright and not stressed! Seems very panicky movements sometimes, but I know I'm just reading that into it and it's probably just having a funny stretch or a little spasm or something....

high 5 to Moobee and all the others finishing today, yay for us! (I'm not counting the recording session next week, it's only stopping my teaching that really counts Grin)
