Contractions every 5 mins now, and needing more of my attention! My Mum just left and DP will be home soon...going to get the DDs to sleep asap so I can get on with it!

KateKringle · 09/12/2011 17:56

Congratulations Pippy. Lovely news and a lovely name.

Falala I was induced with DD after waters broke and labour didn't start naturally for 60 hours. Because of that I was straight on the drip, which also meant continuous monitoring and going nowhere near the pool. I was able to roam around a bit in the room, but then the monitors kept falling off so they attached a clip to DD's head. I managed for 10 hours with no pain relief because it took a while for the contractions to build up, but then they came so thick and fast I went straight for an epidural. It was amazing! I was able to tell when I was having contractions, but with none of the pain meaning I could get some rest over the next 5 hours before it was time to push. The MW told me that because I was induced I didn't have my natural hormones to combat the pain. Please don't feel like a failure if you do have to have an epi. The birth wasn't at all what I'd planned but I ended up with a beautiful baby girl and that was the main thing. DH was able to stay with me the whole time too, and was a huge support - keeping me laughing, giving back massages etc.

bennybenbear · 09/12/2011 17:56

Hi sparkly! nice to hear from you again! Hope everything is good with you. I'm ok just v impatient and high bp-more than likely related!! Would be good to meet up again after Christmas with kiddies!!
x

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 18:06

Hi sparkly - good to hear from you. Good luck when you pop!
Good luck msb, sounds like things are really getting going!
Thanks for the info Kate - very useful (good to hear positive and negative stories). I feel better armed so I can ask more questions. Also, they are keen to induce after approx 24hrs, but maybe I can try to hold them off a bit longer.
In the end, I'll take their advice, but forewarned is forearmed!

YBR · 09/12/2011 18:08

Mines getting more painful, I can't sit or walk, maybe my stitches are pinching, I hope its that rather than the anti bio not working! Mw later. Hopefully its the stitches! Did they tell you how long it normally takes episiotemys to close properly?
Re: Episiotomy query on first-timer thread
Kri5ty, personal questions are fine here (IMHO), but this is just my experience which may not be typical.
My stitches had dissolved enough for the wound to re-open, in (errr...) under a week. I can now, after 2 weeks, generally sit if I put myself down carefully (IYSWIM) and walking round the house is fine, I'm not pushing it too far though.
Yes, I think the A/Bs did help, but not immediately; perhaps it was time, keeping things clean, adapting to not aggravate it etc.

I saw the Obs/Gyne Doc yesterday and apparently the wound is beginning to knit. She's got me packing the wound with sugar paste 4x daily (of course, my DH has to do it since I can't see) and says 2-3 weeks should do it. Without the sugar paste twice that is forecast.

kri5tycringle · 09/12/2011 18:22

sparkly hello :o how are you?? I sure am a proud mummy now! Were you my due date buddy??! And i would lurve for a meet up again! With even more cake mmm cake im on the mince pies now!!

YBR good to see you here hehe :o hmm i think mine arent dissolving, they are very painful now (i couldn't feel them at first), now i can't walk or sit as they feel like they are pulling and i get bad shooting pains.. the MW said its not infected etc so the a/b's obviously did the trick!

oi try and push for longer than the 24 hours.. they will monitor you anyway so you will know if action needs to be taken sooner??

LittleMissHumbuggery · 09/12/2011 18:31

Thread title at this rate should be "December babies declare "we shall not, we shall not be moved..."

I'm spending the next ninety posts rattling pompoms daring them to contradict me. We know how kids love a challengeWink

msb pompoms twisted for the best of evenings. Take care:)

Tinselperion · 09/12/2011 18:47

Good luck mrsb!! Can't wait to hear how it all happens, hope DP and doula arrive soon and all goes smoothly!

LittleMissHumbuggery · 09/12/2011 18:51

How wrong is it to be needing a skanky takeaway burger? The local kebabery sells one with cheese and pepperoni. So bad, yet it calls to me...

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 09/12/2011 18:59

Kri5ty, will look forward to the new pics, can't wait to see how he's developed. To be fair, I think in a way most new mothers/parents 'miss' the first few weeks as it's all a blur of tiredness, shock and delight- and you have decades of being in photos with him to look forward to. Hope the wind settles down too!

Sending more good luck and come on babies vibes to Oi and Falalalala, can't wait to hear the news, and to you MsB- how's the crocheting going?!

Wotcha YBR- sounds like you're coping very well with a painful situation, very brave and doing the right thing- never heard of the sugar paste stuff.

Off for dinner, fajitas, nyom!

aethelfleda · 09/12/2011 19:04

lmh if it's burger you need then go for it! I've been seduced into the Global Evilness of Mc D's by big-mac-sauce cravings more than once recently....

Go mrsB, though preferably at a genteel rate to enable doula to get there and DP to eat humble pie when he gets back just in time!

I know its unrealistic to expect any action over the weekend as I'm still not 38 weeks but will be gazing at the moon just in case.

And finally have a clean hob and oven (plus washed the walls in the hall free of DD-related handprints!) seriously tenpted to wrap up some Mr Muscle and a pair of Marigolds for Dad's GF...is that wrong ??? :)

KateKringle · 09/12/2011 19:32

Good luck to MsB and hope things progress soon for Oi and Falala. Glad you found it useful Oi. They gave me 36 hours before wanting to induce and I was monitored at 12 and 36 hours. Since everything was OK on the monitoring we were able to persuade them to give us another 24 hours before induction.

festivefiggy · 09/12/2011 19:51

I'm sat sulking now as not only missing my all expenses paid Christmas party there's only a few hours left of my due date and I'm still bloody babyless and even worse still symptomless of any progression. Pah

KateKringle · 09/12/2011 19:53

Can I join you in the sulking please figgy? DH was going to bring fish and chips home, but was delayed so won't be back until about 9. I've had soup instead Xmas Sad. It's my due date tomorrow, and no sign of anything doing here either.

fusam · 09/12/2011 20:13

Oi Hope if the baby is so low down fingers crossed things will kick off over night.

Msb I am in awe on how cool and calm you are.

LMH Am now salivating at the idea of a skanky burger even though I have already eaten dinner, thanks very much. Off to rummage in cupboards for some pringles to pop. I think I will need it for energy to press the f5 key keep tabs on everyone.

OiMistletoe · 09/12/2011 20:24

Oh Kate you were so kind earlier, but now I have to be cruel and evil when I tell you that we had fish, chips and mushy peas for dinner - washed down with Dandelion and Burdock. Sorry.

Tinselperion · 09/12/2011 21:51

DH made a lovely prawn, squash and eggplant thai red curry that just about blew my head off chilli-wise tonight so if there's any truth to the spicy food thing I should go into labour in about 5 minutes! Classic conversation with my mum afterwards: "noooo don't eat thai food! I know someone who knows someone who ate thai food and then had a miscarriage!!" Xmas Hmm

DH is now working through the greatest hits of the Monkees on his uke for my amusement, and I'm going to try the evening primrose oil up the chuff before bed, for your amusement! (Rest assured I will only tell you if it works...)

Hohohomouse · 09/12/2011 21:52

Sulk, sulk, sulk
Had reflexology earlier to try and get things moving. She reckons 60% likely something will kick off in next 48 hours. If not, I'll see her again Monday.
Well done to everyone kicking off with labour, nursing new babies. Lots of great news

LittleMissHumbuggery · 09/12/2011 21:54

fusam I'm sorry! It's just arrived and it smells divine. If it makes you feel any better, my fodder for the rest of the day stands at two bags of crisps and a couple of biscuits as it was a busyone >_<

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 09/12/2011 21:58

Tinsel, I can only begin to imagine what your response was (and what your 'real' response was in your head!)

Others, indulge your desire for baaaad food. At this late in the day it won't make a jot of difference.

Mind you, I have to say that the only time I've had any digestive issues this whole pregnancy was when I ate a Burger King at a motorway service station out of necessity- indegestiony-heartburnery that made me feel like I was having a heart attack- nice.

LittleMissHumbuggery · 09/12/2011 22:22

Tinsel Your mum is priceless. If you're on twitter, your mum is the female equal to 'shit my dad says' (even if that was proven to be fake:( ) and as such you should sign up for an account and just post it all on there:o

Skanky burger was nom. I feel delightfully full and every so slightly queasy. Result:o

Right, I'm off to poke the washing machine.

ChristmasPullyWoolOver · 09/12/2011 22:33

Hellooooo all !

Have been MIA due to sad lack of Internet connection - grrr.

Anyhow, all back on now thank goodness. Wow, lots going on. Good luck to all experiencing exciting developments Oi, mrsb, falala and anyone else (sorry if I'm missing anyone, need to catch up properly!). And huge congrats to all the new babies, lovely, lovely

39 weeks today and not even a twinge to report, I shall continue to enjoy the baby updates in the hope it encourages bump to get moving. lmh can you lend me some if those pompoms so I can join in the cheering?

A plus les filles x

LittleMissHumbuggery · 09/12/2011 22:42

kri5tycringle · 10/12/2011 01:30

The mw suggested its colic, Colic is evil.. my poor baby! 2 hours of arching, screaming and grunting he has finally gone to sleep.
